De nos jours, le nom de l’abbé Félix-Antoine Savard (1895-1982) évoque surtout son oeuvre littéraire comme Menaud maître-draveur, L’Abatis ou Le Barachois. À son sujet, Le Petit Robert est laconique : « Prélat et écrivain canadien, d’expression française » (Le Petit Robert 2). Pourtant, avec son collègue et ami, Luc Lacourcière, n’a-t-il pas participé à la fondation des Archives de folklore de l’Université Laval ? Par ailleurs, n’a-t-il pas collaboré aux enquêtes folkloriques au Québec et en Acadie comme en témoigne la référence « Collection Lacourcière-Savard » accompagnant de nombreux documents sonores. Félix-Antoine Savard était-il un folkloriste ? Quel rôle fut le sien dans la collecte où figure son nom ? Quel but comptait-il atteindre en se rendant dans le pays des conteurs et conteuses, des chanteurs et chanteuses ?

Résumé De Menaud maître-draveur, roman phare de Félix-Antoine Savard, on possède trois rédactions manuscrites et quatre versions imprimées, s’échelonnant de 1934 à 1967. L’examen des manuscrits permet de suivre la gestation du roman et de saisir sur le vif la méthode de travail de l’écrivain, continuellement tendu vers un idéal de perfection formelle. La première édition (1937) ne donnera pas satisfaction à l’esthète que fut F.-A. Savard. Pendant trois décennies, il reviendra inlassablement sur son oeuvre, ne parvenant à lui donner sa forme définitive, classique, qu’après bien des hésitations et des repentirs. Le célèbre « Songe du Lucon » (fin du chapitre III) est à cet égard tout à fait révélateur.

La réalité des musées québécois éloignés des grandes agglomérations urbaines diffère substantiellement de celle des institutions évoluant en milieu métropolitain. Meggie Savard définit l'environnement dans lequel évoluent ces institutions en évoquant une certaine forme d’autonomie culturelle, la présence d’une forte identité régionale et leur composition démographique (à prévalence caucasienne, homogène et francophone), le phénomène de l’exode rural, un faible niveau de scolarisation des habitants ainsi qu’un taux de chômage supérieur à la moyenne nationale. Malgré les difficultés avec lesquelles ces musées doivent composer, les divers paliers de gouvernance local, provincial ou national ne leur accordent aucune reconnaissance ni statut particulier. En s’appuyant sur ce constat, Meggie Savard tente de définir et de circonscrire le « musée régional » en l’opposant au musée urbain par le biais d’une revue d’écrits et l’étude d’un cas typique observé au Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean afin de proposer quelques idées d’appui financier adaptées aux besoins propres à ces institutions.

Developed from the cross Rivers/Newdale made in 1999, Major was evaluated in the Western Cooperative Two-row Barley Registration Test (2006–2007) and the Collaborative Malting Barley Trials (2007–2008) conducted by the malting and brewing industry before being registered in 2009. Major has an excellent combination of agronomic traits and disease resistance with malting quality similar to AC Metcalfe, a cultivar widely used commercially by the malting and brewing industry in domestic and export markets.

Cyril Simard naît à Baie-Saint-Paul, au Québec, en 1938. Dans les années 1960, il devient architecte et se spécialise en artisanat et design. La carrière de Cyril Simard se partage en plusieurs volets : enseignement universitaire et pratique de l’architecture, direction de la Centrale d’artisanat, diffusion des connaissances par la télévision et le livre, conception et développement de projets au sein de la fonction publique québécoise, création du concept et du réseau des économusées. Il donne une longue entrevue dont nous reproduisons ici d’importants extraits qui forment une sorte de courtepointe en douze morceaux.

Abstract:

We establish the convergence of a vortex system towards equations similar to the 2D Euler equation in vorticity formulation. The only but important difference is that we use singular kernel of the type x⊥/|x|α+1, with α < 1, instead of the Biot–Savard kernel x⊥/|x|2. This paper follows a previous work of Jabin and the author about the particles approximation of Vlasov equation in Ref. 13. Here we study a different mean-field equation, simplify the proofs and weaken non-physical initial conditions. The simplification is due to the introduction of the infinite Wasserstein distance. The results are obtained for L1 ∩ L∞ vorticities without any sign assumption, in the periodic setting, on the whole space and on the half space (with Neumann boundary conditions). A vortex-blob result is also given, that is valid for short times in the true vortex case.

Jean-Pierre Pichette ajoute un nouveau chapitre à l’étude du passage de l’oral à l’écrit qu’il a entreprise. Il s’interroge ici sur l’attitude de Marius Barbeau face à l’édition des contes de tradition orale. Il présente au complet le portrait du trio amical des « pères du folklore », les Marius Barbeau, Luc Lacourcière et Félix-Antoine Savard. Il expose en introduction le malentendu, créé par Barbeau lui-même, qui entoura la publication savante d’un conte populaire acadien, « La Sereine de mer et les trois haches ». Il examine ensuite, par contre-expertise, la qualité et la précision du traitement d’un autre conte, « Les Bossus », depuis les notes sténographiques de terrain jusqu’à la publication dans une revue scientifique. Aussi peut-il dissiper le malentendu et montrer que la méthode de Barbeau répondait à toutes les exigences de sa science et, même, qu’elle devançait son époque, grâce à la technique de notation sténographique qu’il maîtrisait, avant la généralisation des appareils enregistreurs.

Cet article porte sur les attentes des élites franco-canadiennes, et plus particulièrement franco-ontariennes, à l’égard des artistes et de leurs oeuvres dans le contexte des transformations sociétales qui ont cours durant les années 1960 et 1970. Il analyse plus précisément les trois rapports d’enquêtes commandés par le gouvernement ontarien entre 1969 et 1991, soit ceux du Comité franco-ontarien d’enquête culturelle (communément appelé le Rapport Saint-Denis, déposé en 1969), du Groupe d’étude sur les arts dans la vie franco-ontarienne, intitulé Cultiver sa différence. Rapport sur les arts dans la vie franco-ontarienne (ou le Rapport Savard, déposé en 1977) et du Groupe de travail pour une politique culturelle des francophones de l’Ontario, dont le titre est RSVP. Clefs en main (ou le Rapport Grisé, déposé en 1991). L’analyse permet de cerner les divers rôles, le plus souvent de cohésion sociale et de construction identitaire, que les élites souhaitent faire jouer aux artistes et aux oeuvres et de dégager les principaux enjeux et défis que les conceptions de l’art proposées, voire imposées, posent aux artistes.

Taylor is a hulless two-row spring barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) cultivar with malting quality potential, and is one of the first hulless cultivars to be registered for that purpose in Canada. This line was developed in 2001 from a CDC Freedom/Rivers cross by in vitro selection using three Fusarium derived mycotoxins in the medium of an anther culture system. Taylor was evaluated in the Western Cooperative Hulless Barley Registration Test (2006–2008), and in pilot-scale malting trials (2007–2008), before being registered as HB705 in 2009 with its name changed to Taylor in 2011. In extensive evaluation in Fusarium head blight (Fusarium graminearum Schwabe) nurseries from 2002 to 2011, Taylor consistently showed low deoxynivalenol concentration.

Norman accumulates 25 to 30% less deoxynivalenol than its parent cultivar, CDC Kendall, but is similar in all other traits including malting quality.

Remotely sensed data were used to derive simple ecosystem indicators for four regions of the Northwest Atlantic to test the hypothesis that sea surface temperatures (SSTs) and spring phytoplankton bloom characteristics (initiation, timing, intensity, and duration) have a significant influence on larval survival and recruitment of northern shrimp (Pandalus borealis). For all years (1998–2007) and regions, hatching was after the initiation of the bloom and before or after the bloom reached its maximum intensity. The results suggest that the best survival of larvae is associated with high warming rates of SST following hatching, but in very cold environments, warm temperatures at hatching seem to be important for larval survival. The analyses also indicate that larval survival is supported by an early, long phytoplankton bloom which attains high concentrations of chlorophyll a. The results demonstrate the potential of remotely sensed data for deriving simple population-specific ecosystem indicators for potential use in building operational recruitment models for predicting changes in northern shrimp abundance.

Fusarium head blight, principally caused by Fusarium graminearum Schwabe, is a destructive disease of barley in many countries and it can result in mycotoxin contamination such as deoxynivalenol (DON) in the grain. An integrated management strategy is needed to mitigate the level of DON contamination in barley. Therefore, a study was initiated to determine if early planting and early-heading cultivars can be used to avoid severe DON contamination under natural epidemic conditions in the Maritimes. Twelve six-row barley cultivars were planted in a split-plot design with two planting dates (early vs. late) as main-plot units and cultivars as sub-plot units at the Harrington Research Farm in Prince Edward Island in 2007, 2008, 2010, 2011, and 2012. Grain samples from all experimental plots were contaminated with DON and one contained as high as 23.1 mg kg−1. Early planting frequently resulted in less DON contamination and higher yield than late planting. Days to heading was positively correlated with DON concentration only at late planting in 2007. The results of this study suggest that six-row barley should be planted early in the Maritimes to avoid a high level of DON contamination and a reduction in grain yield, and that use of early-heading cultivars may not be effective at reducing DON contamination while retaining high yield.
