The thermoelectric properties of lanthanum-doped strontium titanate (LSTO) were investigated for high temperature applications. Ceramics with the formulation La(2x/3)Sr(1-x)TiO(3-delta) (x = 0.1, 0.3, 0.5, 0.7, 0.9) were produced using the conventional mixed oxide route. After 18 hours of milling the powders were calcined at 1373 K for 4 hours and sintered at 1733 K (± 180 K/hour) for 4 hours in air. The thesis studies the sintering behaviours and mechanical properties of perovskite-structured Ba0.5Sr0.5Co0.8Fe0.2O3-δ (BSCF) ceramics. The sintering behaviours of BSCF are studied by sintering BSCF powder using a series of sintering temperatures and dwell times. Under all circumstances, only a cubic perovskite structure is identified in as-sintered samples. Oxygen separation membrane technology is an alternative to cryogenic distillation for the production of oxygen. Barium strontium cobalt iron oxide (BSCF, Ba0.5Sr0.5Co0.8Fe0.2O3-d) is one of the candidate membrane materials for this application. Transverse Field muon spin relaxation (TF-muSR) experiments were performed in external magnetic fields 1.0, 2.7, 3.0, 4.5, 5.5, 6.0 and 7.0 T along the Bi2212 crystalline c-axis. For the first time, the heterodyned fitting analysis technique shows that the field profiles on the ab basal planes of single crystal Bi2212 are symmetric in all experimental fields 1.0--7.0 T and at all experimental temperatures 2.0-90.0 K. The efforts of my research have led to the successful construction of several instruments that have helped expand the field of microwave spectroscopy. The classic Balle-Flygare spectrometer has been modified to include two different sets of antenna to operate in the frequency ranges 6-18 GHz and 18-26 GHz, allowing it to function for a large range without having to break vacuum. This modified FTMW instrument houses two low noise amplifiers in the vacuum chamber to allow for the LNAs to be as close to the antenna as physically possible, improving sensitivity. Preparation and performance of the perovskite-type barium strontium cobalt iron oxide (Ba_0.5 Sr_0.5 Co_0.8 Fe_0.2 O_(3-δ), BSCF) and its doped compositions were studied in this dissertation. Three transition metals (copper, nickel and niobium) were substituted into the parent BSCF at various ratios to create the formula Ba_0.5 Sr_0.5 (Co_0.8 Fe_0.2)_(1-x) M_x O_(3-δ) (0.02≤x≤0.30; M=Cu,Ni or Nb).
