This research analyzes the Assemblies of God in Brazil, focusing on the relations of power, prestige and domination in the succession and family perpetuation of the leaders of this movement in the main positions of "command". We analyze the figure of the Pastor-president and how it became a mechanism of prestige to the point of being legitimized as an unquestionable figure within this institution. We have as a cut for this research the Assemblies of God of the Ministry of Madureira. From the arrival of Bishop Manoel Ferreira to the main command post, it was possible to perceive throughout his administration the family ascent. Children and grandchild occupy the main command posts of the same, a phenomenon not common in the sociocultural construction of this church. The extent to which this relationship concretely influences succession is the guiding question of the research. The bibliographic survey of primary documentation such as newspapers and magazines of the institution was part of the research; And secondary, with the use of "reference books", theses, dissertations and articles that deal directly or correlated with the objectives outlined. In order to accomplish this, a field research was conducted based on interviews with pastors-presidents, former pastors-presidents and pastors of congregation, in order to have a greater comprehension of the material conditions produced by this movement. This research aims to understand the relationship in the present day of perpetuation and family succession in a society that has in democracy and in alternating power the foundations of a society that seeks to avoid the abuses of a group or class of privileged. In the research it was identified that the Pastor-President figure is not a form of "cultural heritage" of colonialism, but rather comes close to patrimonial characteristics, as a response to the traditional needs of the movement that opened the "margin" for the empowerment of a group, Or family, which today forms the foundation of the institution in question. We use as theoretical reference the traditional Weberian ideal type in its patrimonial aspect.

Full textENGLISH ABSTRACT: This study identifies the way in which Brazil was able to achieve significant economic and social development during the Presidency of Luiz Inácio Lula Da Silva from 2003 to 2010. The element which makes the achievement of this development extremely interesting is the fact that it was engineered by a traditionally radical Leftist party, the Partido dos Trabalhadores (PT – Workers’ Party) within the context of the globalized world economy. Throughout much of its existence, the PT has called for a radical socialist transformation of Brazilian society. However, once it came to power, it not only rejected radical positions, but acquiesced fully with the constraints placed upon it by global capital. Thus, in addition to describing the process of development in Brazil, this study also attempts to account for the way in which it was achieved. This is done by postulating that the Lula (as he is commonly referred to) administration was successful in solidifying Brazilian economic fundamentals, as well as in significantly reducing poverty and inequality in one of the most unequal societies in the world, because it adopted Third Way economic and social policies. It is argued that, even though there were few clear indications from the government that it regarded itself as following the Third Way, a practical examination of Lula’s economic and social policies indicate that they overwhelmingly conform to the prescripts of the Third Way.

Full textIndividual level factors related to the successor have a central role to play in the succession process of the business. When these factors are viewed in relation to succession planning models, these factors have a direct relation to the succession models in terms of success or failure of the succession process. The major contributing factor to the success or failure of the succession process is that of the leadership provided to the organization by the predecessor. These leadership qualities change from one form to another during different phases of the succession planning models.

Full textIt is difficult these days to determine all the persons entitled to inherit under french succession law. The concept of the family has considerably changed : often the traditionnal family circle is widely dispersed and the number of families with illegitimate off spring is on the increase. This development accounts for the emergence of an unusual profession known as succession genealogist (genealogiste successoral), whose task is to establish, upon the request of a notary, the identities of the beneficiaries of the estate of a deceased who has died leaving no known heirs. Once the genealogist has identified the relations of the deceased, he will then be in a position to inform them of their inheritance rights, previously unknown to them, by virtue of what is known as an agreement for the identification of succession beneficiaries (contrat de revelation de succession). In consideration for his services, he will be entitled under this agreement to payment of a percentage of that part of the net estate devolving to the heir in question. The legal classification of such a contract is no simple matter. The courts have decided, with a considerable degree of caution, to place the contract in the category of a sui generis risk contract. The validity of contract is subject to the ordinary common law rules of contract. Until recently, there was an unbroken line of precedent over a period of twenty-three years to the effect that such contract be subject to no particular regulations. However, the french supreme court, by a recent decision dated 30th october 1996, ruled that the genealogist falls into the same category as that of door-to-door salesman and, as such, is subject in the performance of his duties to the restrictions laid down in articles l. 121-23 et seq of the consumer code

The essential issue of this project is the relationship between the American people and their president. As technology changes, people adapt to new methods of communication which simultaneously allow them to connect with others and the wider world more easily and yet also separate themselves from others and the wider world more easily. The need for presidential candidates and sitting presidents to connect with citizens has led to the adoption of diverse media strategies that include traditional news initiatives with established journalists, face to face interaction with small groups of supporters, and visits to traditionally non-political entertainment-based venues. This dissertation research examines that last element of presidential-level communication: an embrace of entertainment forums for political purposes. This project is a necessary contribution to the field because there has not been a thorough and exclusive examination of the embrace of the entertainment-based venue by presidential campaigns guided by the thoughts of veterans of presidential campaigns themselves. Some scholars and journalists have partially analyzed this phenomenon as part of a larger examination of presidential communication strategy, but this specific element has largely been uninspected and has become especially relevant in the context of the presidency of Barack Obama, a trailblazer in the use of entertainment-based venues for political purposes, and in the context of presidential campaigns and administrations going forward. The 2016 presidential primaries have only made the purpose of this project more urgent because of the rise of Donald Trump, perhaps the ultimate example of the fusing of politics and entertainment. To understand the phenomena driving presidential campaigns to embrace entertainment-based venues, I conducted interviews with twenty-two veterans of presidential campaigns dating back to the 1980 election. Between them, these twenty-two political strategists have worked for five administrations – Ronald Reagan, George H. W. Bush, Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, and Barack Obama – and a number of major campaigns in every election cycle since 1980, including the 2016 campaign. I also conducted two interviews with veterans of the most viewed entertainment platforms of the 1990s and 2000s: The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and The Late Show with David Letterman. These twenty-four interviews, including with one individual who worked for both a presidential campaign and a late night entertainment talk show, were conducted between March 2015 and February 2016 and included targeted questions and an oral history component. Presidential candidates have increasingly needed to stress the lighter sides of their personalities to appeal to a voting public fascinated by the horserace media coverage of presidential politics but largely uninterested in the minutiae of day-to-day policymaking. Slowly, sitting presidents have attempted to do the same but have had to balance revelation with the responsibilities of holding the highest office in the land. This project evaluates the implications of the moves that presidential campaigns and presidential administrations have made to become more accessible and connected with the citizenry in a constantly changing media environment. Based on the data collected through the interview process, his project offers a new theoretical underpinning for this media strategy based on a synthesis of role theory, the postmodern presidency theory, and technological determinism that allows for the significant influence of individual personality in the decision-making process and predicts how future campaigns will operate in this regard as media technology and American political culture evolve.

In order to respond to these areas of inquiry, the researcher applied social role theory and system- justification theory to survey and interview data collected from a population of Boston College undergraduate women. Ultimately, it was found that millennial women are prone to gender bias when evaluating female presidential candidates and that the gender beliefs that prompt this bias are so deeply ingrained that they appear almost inevitable

Parkhurst, Michael. "Founder succession in small businesses." Thesis, Pepperdine University, 2013. http://pqdtopen.proquest.com/#viewpdf?dispub=3556877.
Full textThe purpose of this study is twofold. The first is to replicate and expand on previous studies by Rubenson and Gupta (1992, 1996) who introduced a contingency model for the initial succession of an organization. The second purpose is to verify that their model is applicable to organizations that are substantially smaller than the original 54 Fortune 1000 companies that were studied. The researcher used a qualitative research methodology to answer the following research questions. 1. Is the Contingency Model of the Initial Succession proposed by Rubenson and Gupta (1996) transferable to organizations of smaller size and lower revenues? 2. Were the founders of small sized organizations planning for their eventual succession? 3. What other factors came into play beyond those outlined by Rubenson and Gupta (1996) during the succession process?
The qualitative research methodology employed was a grounded theory research design utilizing personal interviews with the first successors of an organization. The researcher used a combination of structured and unstructured questions during the interviews of 15 successor CEOs about the process of succession from the founder to them as the next organizational leader. Participants in this study were chosen by a combination of purposeful sampling and chain referencing methods. All the participants and organizations in this study met the following criteria: (a) the interviewed successor must be the first leader after the founder, (b) the organizations must have been between $5 and $200 million dollars in annual revenue at the time of succession, (c) the organizations must have had 200 employees or less at the time of succession, and (d) the succession must either be in process or have happened within the last 5 years.
The results of this study suggest that founders who maintain a controlling equity position in their organizations are able to set the date and method of their succession with impunity. Only 6 of the 12 sub-factors in the model for the initial succession were confirmed in the sample population of this study. It is the authors conclusion that the proposed model by Rubenson and Gupta (1996) as it is currently constructed had minimal explanatory power in the target population of this study. Additionally, 6 themes were discovered during the interview process: founders are thinking in terms of how to cash out of the business rather than their legacy; founders are not planning for succession until it is thrust upon them by illness, old age, or by their family; founders did whatever they wanted because they were the majority shareholder; successors are not inclined to confront the founder; founders have a high level of self identification with the organization; and founders hung onto the organization because it was their hobby.
