The interaction of silver ion with a range of mixed-donor macrocyclic ligands incorporating nitrogen, oxygen and/or sulfur donors has been investigated. Complementary calorimetric and n.m.r. studies in acetonitrile (and its deuterated derivative) were used to investigate the nature of the equilibria present as the metal/ ligand ratio was varied. In all systems the formation of a 1 : 1 species was observed, with a 1:2 (metal/ ligand ) species also being formed in the presence of excess ligand in the majority of cases. Enthalpies of formation for the various complexes have been determined. Stepw

Borohydride ligands featuring multiple pendant donor functionalities have been prevalent in the chemical literature for many decades now. More recent times has seen their development into new families of so-called soft scorpionates, for example, those featuring sulfur based donors. Despite all of these developments, those ligands containing just one pendant group are rare. This article explores one ligand family based on the 2-mercaptopyridine heterocycle. The coordination chemistry of the monosubstituted ligand, [H3B(mp)]− (mp = 2-mercaptopyridyl), has been explored. Reaction of Na[BH3(mp)] w

We report herein on our synthetic, structural, and catalytic investigations of new P,S-DalPhos ligands featuring pairings of phosphorus and sulfur donor groups as well as new sulfur-containing analogues of the previously reported P,N-ligands Me-DalPhos and Mor-DalPhos, featuring a 2,3-disubstituted thiophenyl backbone. In examining the catalytic performance of these new sulfur-containing ligands in the Buchwald–Hartwig amination of octylamine, aniline, or ammonia with 4-chlorotoluene, noteworthy differences in reactivity behavior relative to Me-DalPhos and Mor-DalPhos were observed.

The structure of [Hg(bpy)2(SCN)]NO3 was confirmed by X-ray crystallography. The complex is monomeric and the Hg atom has an unsymmetrical five-coordinate geometry, with four nitrogen atoms of two bpy ligands and one sulfur atom of the thiocyanate ligand as donor atoms. This review article describes the synthesis and coordination chemistry of three types of thiophenol-based heterodonor ligands containing tertiary phosphine and/or arsine groups in combination with sulfur. Phenylthio(diphenyl)phosphine and -arsine ligands, EPh2(SPh) (E = P, As), incorporate an E–S bond in their structures. Upon reaction with different metal carbonyls, metal-mediated cleavage of the E–S bonds of these ligands has been observed, leading to a variety of sulfur- and phosphorus- or arsenic-containing metallacycles.
