Abstract:
In this work we test a cosmological model with an interaction between dark energy and dark matter, where a tachyon scalar field plays the role of dark energy. With that in mind, we developed a numerical code that solves the background equations and extracts the cosmological parameters and we compared the results of the interacting tachyon model with those of other dark energy candidates. Our results show that the model indeed explains the observational data and has interesting cosmological properties, but might face challenges when compared to other dark energy candidates.<br>Neste trabalho testamos um modelo cosmológico com uma interação entre energia escura e matéria escura, onde um campo escalar taquiônico desempenha o papel da energia escura. Para isso, desenvolvemos um código computacional que resolve as equações numericamente e vincula os parâmetros cosmológicos e, assim, comparamos os resultados do modelo taquiônico interagente com os de outros candidatos à energia escura. Nossas análises mostram que o modelo, de fato, consegue explicar os dados observacionais, além de possuir propriedades cosmológicas interessantes, mas apresenta dificuldades quando comparado a outros modelos de energia escura.

Abstract:
This thesis derives and explores two solutions to the field equations of general relativity. These solutions are special cases of solutions already present in the literature. However, the present derivation is based on physical arguments which provides a basis for discussing the solutions as cosmological objects, rather than simply as a class of solutions with certain symmetries. This derivation naturally gives rise to the idea that the space-times indicated are generated by the passage of walls composed of gases of transcendant tachyons. After deriving the solutions, we explore the geodesics that these walls generate. In general, they tend to focus the paths of particles moving through the walls. It is also found that the walls generate blue-shifts in observed photons emitted from sources that pass through the walls. As applications of these solutions, numerical simulations demonstrate that a toy galaxy passing through the second type of tachyon wall develops spiral structures which persist for several rotations of the galaxy, dissolve, and then reform throughout the lifetime of the galaxy. A number of open problems associated with these walls are discussed.

D.)--Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Dept. of Physics, 2003.<br>Includes bibliographical references (p. 185-197).<br>In this thesis, we present some results that strongly support Sen's conjectures on tachyon condensation on a bosonic D-brane. Our main tool of analysis is level truncated open bosonic string field theory We use level truncation to check that the energy difference between the local maximum and the local minimum of the open bosonic tachyon effective potential is equal to the tension of a space-filling D-brane (Sen's first conjecture). Our results prove this equality within a precision of about 0.1%. We then construct lump solutions of open bosonic string field theory, which are conjectured by Sen (third conjecture) to be D-branes of lower dimensions. We check that indeed the tensions of lumps of codimension one and two, coincide with the tensions of the respective D-branes within a precision of a few percent. We also give evidence for Sen's second conjecture; that in the nonperturbative tachyon vacuum all open string degrees of freedom must disappear. We show that this is guaranteed if we can write the identity string field I in the form I = QA, where A is some string field and Q is the BRST operator in the true vacuum. We show evidence that the identity can indeed be written in this form. We also analyze the dynamics of tachyon condensation by studying time-dependent solutions of p-adic string theory and level truncated string field theory. Although our rolling solutions conserve energy, their pressure oscillates with diverging amplitudes. D.)--Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Dept. of Physics, 2006.<br>Includes bibliographical references (p. 77-81).<br>In this thesis we present some works done during my doctoral studies. These results focus on two directions. The first one is motivated by tachyon dynamics in open string theory. We calculate the stress tensors for the p-adic string model and for the pure tachyonic sector of open string field theory (OSFT). We give the energy density of lump solutions and attempt to evaluate the evolution of the pressure in rolling tachyon solutions. We discuss the relevance of the pressure calculation for the identification of the large time solution with a gas of closed strings. In the second direction, we give some results in closed string field theory (CSFT). We considered marginal deformations in CSFT. The marginal parameter, called a, is that associated with the dimension-zero primary operator cWcX&X. We use this marginal operator to test the quartic structure of CSFT and the feasibility of level expansion. We check the vanishing of the effective potential for a. In the level expansion the quartic terms generated by the cubic interactions must be canceled by the elementary quartic interaction of four marginal operators. We confirm this prediction, thus giving evidence that the sign, normalization, and region of integration Vo,4 for the quartic vertex are all correct.<br>(cont.) This is the first calculation of an elementary quartic amplitude for which there is an expectation that can be checked. We also extend the calculation to the case of the four marginal operators associated with two space coordinates. We then try to search a critical point of the tachyon potential in CSFT. We include the tachyon, the dilaton, and massive fields in the computation. Some evidence is found for the existence of a closed string tachyon vacuum. It seems that this critical point becomes more shallow when higher level contributions are considered. We also relate fields in the sigma model and those in CSFT. Moreover, large dilaton deformations are studied numerically. Finally, we use the low-energy effective field equations that couple gravity, the dilaton, and the bulk closed string tachyon to study the end result of the physical decay process associated with the instability of closed string tachyon. We establish that whenever the tachyon induces the rolling process, the Einstein metric undergoes collapse while the dilaton rolls to strong coupling. Abstract:
We study the target space duality of classical two dimensional sigma models. The models with dilaton and tachyon field are analyzed. As a motivating example the historical electric-magnetic duality is presented. We review the construction of the duality transformation and the integrability conditions for the nonlinear sigma models with target spaces described by general metrics and antisymmetric two-forms. We generalize the formalism for the models whose actions contain the dilaton and tachyon field. For the dilaton field case it is required that the duality is a property solely of the target manifolds, independent of the world-sheet geometry. For both cases the duality transformation is established and the integrability conditions are calculated. The set of restrictions on geometrical data describing the models is obtained, the previously calculated condition on connections on target spaces is maintained in both cases.

En théorie des supercordes de type II, la paire brane-antibrane séparée admet dans son spectre de corde ouverte un tachyon bi-fondamental pour toute séparation inférieure à la distance critique. La dynamique de ce système serait décrite par l'action effective de Garousi en toute distance non nulle. Notre étude montre cependant que le domaine de validité de cette action concerne exclusivement des condensations de tachyon spatiales. Des études précédentes menées par Bagchi et Sen ont montré, dans un domaine de distance sous-critique partiel, l'existence d'une théorie conforme (CFT) décrivant une condensation de tachyon dynamique à distance constante, dénommée tachyon roulant. Nous montrons que cette CFT existe en vérité sur l'ensemble du domaine sous-critique. Grâce à cette démonstration, nous prouvons que le domaine de validité de l'action de Garousi ne peut pas inclure de condensations de tachyons temporelles, et nous justifions le calcul de la fonction de partition le long du tachyon roulant sur l'ensemble du domaine sous-critique. En utilisant une méthode proposée par Kutasov et Niarchos, nous déterminons une action effective quadratique pour les champs de tachyon et de distance, au moins valable en toute distance autour de la solution de tachyon roulant. Par ailleurs, nous avons étudié le modèle sigma non linéaire défini comme la déformation perturbative de la CFT du tachyon roulant. Les fonctions bêta du groupe de renormalisation, que nous avons obtenues, sont en accord avec les équations du mouvement de l'action effective quadratique proposée, confirmant ainsi son expression<br>In superstring theory of type II, the separated brane-antibrane pair admits a bi-fundamental tachyon in its open string spectrum, for any separation less than the critical distance. The dynamics of this system would be described by the Garousi's effective action for any non-zero separation. Our study shows however that the domain of validity of this action only includes space-like tachyon condensation. Previous studies led by Bagchi and Sen showed that, in a partial sub-critical domain, exists a conformal field theory (CFT), which describes a dynamical condensation at static distance, called rolling tachyon. We show that this CFT actually exists on the whole tachyonic domain. Thanks to this demonstration, we prove that the domain of validity of Garousi's action excludes time-dependent tachyon condensation, and we justify the computation of the partition fonction along the rolling tachyon on the whole sub-critical domain. Using a method proposed by Kutasov and Niarchos, we determine a quadratic effective action for the tachyon and distance fields, at least valid in the whole tachyonic domain around the rolling tachyon solution. In addition, we studied the non linear sigma model of perturbative deformations along the rolling tachyon CFT. The beta-function of the renormalization group, that we obtained, are in good agreement with the equations of movement derived from the proposed quadratic effective action. This stands as an independent confirmation of its expression

La théorie des cordes est le candidat le plus promettant pour la théorie unissant toutes les interactions en incluant la gravitation. Elle a la dynamique très compliquée. C'est pourquoi c'est utile d'étudier ses simplifications. Une de celles-ci est la théorie des cordes non-critique qui peut être définie dans les dimensions inférieures. Le cas particulièrement intéressant est la théorie des cordes à deux dimensions. D'une part elle a la structure très riche et d'autre part elle est soluble exactement. La solution complète de la théorie des cordes à deux dimensions dans le fond le plus simple du dilaton linéaire a été obtenue en utilisant sa représentation comme la mécanique quantique matricielle. Ce modèle des matrices fournit une technique très puissante et découvre l'intégrabilité cachée dans la formulation habituelle de CFT. Cette thèse prolonge la formulation de la théorie des cordes à deux dimensions par des modèles des matrices dans des fonds non-triviaux. Nous montrons comment les perturbations changeants le fond sont incorporés à la mécanique quantique matricielle. Les perturbations sont intégrables et dirigées par l'hiérarchie de Toda. Cette intégrabilité est utilisée pour extraire l'information divers sur le système perturbé: les fonctions des corrélations, le comportement thermodynamique, la structure de l'espace-temps. Les résultats concernant ces et autres questions, comme des effets non-perturbatives dans la théorie des cordes non-critiques, sont présentés dans cette thèse<br>String theory is the most promising candidate for the theory unifying all interactions including gravity. It has an extremely difficult dynamics. Therefore, it is useful to study some its simplifications. One of them is non-critical string theory which can be defined in low dimensions. A particular interesting case is 2D string theory. On the one hand, it has a very rich structure and, on the other hand, it is solvable. A complete solution of 2D string theory in the simplest linear dilaton background was obtained using its representation as Matrix Quantum Mechanics. This matrix model provides a very powerful technique and reveals the integrability hidden in the usual CFT formulation. This thesis extends the matrix model description of 2D string theory to non-trivial backgrounds. We show how perturbations changing the background are incorporated into Matrix Quantum Mechanics. The perturbations are integrable and governed by Toda Lattice hierarchy. This integrability is used to extract various information about the perturbed system: correlation functions, thermodynamical behaviour, structure of the target space. The results concerning these and some other issues, like non-perturbative effects in non-critical string theory, are presented in the thesis

Hadoop was developed as an open-source software framework that leveraged initially the MapReduce programming model and therefore was able to efficiently analyse and process large datasets. At the core of Hadoop is the Hadoop distributed file system or HDFS, which is used as the default storage across the cluster. Hadoop can also be used with other types of storage, with or without HDFS, such as Amazon S3, Windows Azure Storage Blobs, GlusterFS, Tachyon etc. This thesis focuses on Tachyon, a distributed file system that claims to enable reliable data sharing at memory speed across cluster computing frameworks. We benchmark and evaluate HDFS with and without Tachyon in regards to performance. To do so we used TestDFSIO as a benchmark to simulate different MapReduce workloads and an in-production Spark job from Spotify. Tachyon's different writetypes were also put to the test and evaluated. To see how cloud solutions compare, we perform the same evaluations of Tachyon over Google Cloud Storage.

Em branas .nas revisaremos a formulação de Shiromizu, Maeda e Sasaki e deduziremos as Equações de Einstein efetivas na brana. Veremos que a partir delas podemos veri.car desvios na Relatividade Geral 4D devido à dimensão extra. Analisaremos as implicações diretas na teoria de buracos negros e em alguns aspectos da cosmologia. Ver- emos também um método de expansão que nos permite veri.car a extensão do horizonte de eventos ao bulk, para então introduzirmos cordas negras usando a formulação de Shiromizu, Maeda e Sasaki. Através do método mencionado, mostraremos alguns exemplos que en- volvem dois de nossos trabalhos realizados no período de doutorado. Mostraremos ainda um estudo alternativo que visa analisar as singularidades físicas no bulk oriundas de soluções de colapsos na brana. Referente às branas espessas, faremos uma revisão do modelo canônico visando o estudo de sua estabilidade. Posteriormente, iremos trabalhar a estabilidade do modelo de brana taquiônica. Nesse caso, ainda não se havia veri.cado a estabilidade para o setor de .utuações escalares de maneira geral, mas apenas na aproximação de rolamento lento. Esse resultado é então obtido pela primeira vez. Segue que uma forma de veri.car a estabilidade é observar o espectro das perturbações. Podemos então fazer uso de operadores supersimétricos, que garantem que o espectro é positivo de.nido. Nosso intuito será então veri.car a estabilidade das branas taquiônicas sem qualquer aproximação. Para isso desenvolveremos um mecanismo que envolve operadores supersimétricos de maneira não trivial, sendo uma generalização da literatura pré-existente. O principal resultado obtido é que a brana taquiônica, podendo ela ser de Minkowski ou (anti-) de Siter, é estável diante perturbações escalares.<br>We will review braneworlds models in .ve dimensions, such as the thin and thick branes cases. In the thin branes context we will review the Shiromizu-Maeda-Sasaki formulation and then we must obtain the e¤ective Einstein equations on the brane. Starting from these equations, we will check some deviations of 4D General Relativity, driven by extra dimension. Some of direct implications will be analyzed for black holes and cosmology. With a perturbative method that provides the event horizon in the bulk, we will introduce the notion of black string in Shiromizu-Maeda-Sasaki formulation. Across of expansion method we will analyze some examples, such as two of our works and then we must .nish with an alternative method for the treatment of singularities on the bulk. Regarding the thick brane, initially we will work the canonical model and posteriorly the tachyon brane model. In the two cases we will develop the stability of models. For the tachyon brane case, the scalar sector has not been studied but only at a slow roll approxima- tion and thus our result is original. The spectra of linear perturbations allows us the study of stability. The use of supersymmetric operators assures us a positive de.ned spectrum. The main objective of this thesis is to check the tachyon brane stability without any ap- proximation. For this purpose we will construct a nontrivial mecanism via supersymmetric operators, which is a generalization of previous literature. The signi.cant result is that the Minkowski, (anti-) de Siter tachyon brane remains stable when perturbed by scalar sector.

O objetivo deste trabalho é calcular a ação de teoria de campos de supercordas para os dois primeiros níveis de massa da supercorda, incluindo os dois setores de projeção GSO. Considerando uma corda tipo II-A na presença de uma D9-brana instável, calcula-se a ação para o táquion, o campo de gauge e os férmions GSO(+) e GSO(-). O trabalho é realizado usando o formalismo híbrido e usando-se a ação de campos de supercordas de Berkovits, que inclui o setor Ramond. Para tanto, inclui-se amplo material de revisão sobre teorias e teorias de campos de supercordas. A construção de operadores de vértice GSO(-) no formalismo híbrido é feita em detalhes. Considerações sobre a ação obtida e perspectivas futuras do trabalho são discutidas no final.<br>The goal of this work is to compute the superstring field theory action contribution for the two first mass level of the superstring, including both GSO sectors. A type IIA superstring in the presence of an unstable non-BPS D9 brane is considered and the computation of the action for the Tachyon, Gauge Field and Massless fermions from GSO(+) and GSO(-) sectors is done. The main work is accomplished using the hybrid formalism and the superstring field theory action of Berkovits, including the Ramond Sector. This task is accomplished by including revision material thoroughly, for conformal and super conformal field theory. Construction of physical GSO(-) vertex operators is considered in detail. At the end, theres a discussion about the action for these fields and some future perspectives are considered.

<p>We discuss various aspects of D-branes in string theory and holography in string theory and loop quantum gravity. </p><p>One way to study D-branes is from a microscopic perspective, using conformal field theory techniques. For example, we investigate the question of how D-branes can be introduced into orbifolded theories. Another way to study D-branes is from a space-time perspective. An example is provided by unstable D-branes, where we compute an effective action describing the decay of a bosonic D-brane. </p><p>The holographic principle is a proposed duality which suggests that a theory in any region has a dual description on the boundary. We explore two examples: (1) The area law for the entropy of a black hole in the framework of loop quantum gravity, related to particular regularizations of the area operator. (2) The AdS/CFT correspondence proposal, where we investigate a string pulsating on AdS using spin chains.</p>

(2) Analysis of annual rainfall and the maximum days without rainfall by Mann-Kendall and Mann-Whitney-Pettitt. (3) Minimum cumulative rainfall within specific days and the maximum consecutive days without rainfall with kriging method to observe the variation of drought rainfall .(4) Application of exceedence probability and fuzzy theory to build a rainfall drought indicator system for Tehchi reservoir watershed. The results show that the annual rainfall of Tachia river basin doesn’t have periodic change. Also, it is easy to get drought in downstream. Moreover, the rainfall drought indicator built in this study can really react to hydrologic drought. V diplomové práci jsem se zabýval městem Tachovem a tématickým okruhem Místo, kde žijeme. Celou práci jsem rozdělil do dvou částí. V první jsem se věnoval vlastivědné charakteristice Tachova. Ve druhé jsem se zabýval vzdělávací oblastí Člověk a jeho svět z Rámcového vzdělávacího programu pro základní vzdělání. V této části také navrhuji dva vyučovací celky pro tuto oblast. Ve vlastivědné charakteristice představuji město Tachov v jeho základních charakteristikách. Důraz je kladen hlavně na historii, kde sleduji město od jeho počátků až po současnost. Snahou je vyzdvihnout v každém období nejdůležitější události a zdůvodnit, proč k nim docházelo. Rovněž se snažím zachytit město jak z pohledu jeho majitelů, tak i života prostých obyvatel. Při tvorbě této části jsem pracoval s informacemi pro mne známými, ale i neznámými. Dozvěděl jsem se mnoho nových poznatků, které mi pomohly utvořit si celkový obraz o městě, ve kterém jsem vyrůstal a kde bych se v budoucnu rád věnoval pedagogické činnosti. 碩士<br>國立臺北科技大學<br>建築與都市設計研究所<br>100<br>The reclamation of Dajia Region may date back to the 23rd year (1669) in the reign of Emperor Yongli of Ming Dynasty when Liu Guoxuan, a general entitled Youwuwei serving in Zheng’s Military Force, stationed his army in the geographically important Mount Tiezhen in Dajia Town that connects the north and the south and cultivated the lands to grow crops. During the reign of Emperor Kangxi, many Han people migrated here and did massive cultivation to the land. Agreeable natural conditions plus established irrigation system led to expanding agricultural settlements. In the 9th year of Yongzheng Period (1731), construction of Tianhou Palace of Shulianzhuang Temple (now is called Zhenlan Palace) was completed, marking the emergence of regional religious faith center in Dajia. As Laoshi Port (now is called Daan Port) and Pengshan Port were open as trading ports, merchandise trade centered around Dajia products such as hemp, salt, camphor, prevailed to its prime. Dajia was transformed into a trading center from the original agricultural settlement. In the 21st year of Jiaqing Period (1816), the Qing Government shifted Lu Port Patrol to Dajia, and established Dajia Patrol. In the 7th year of Daoguang Period (1827), Dajia was recognized as a county, and later part of Zhuqian Garrison was stationed in Dajia and renamed Zhongjun Garrison in the 10th year of Daoguang Period (1830). Government building and the expansion of Dajia City fueled its commercial prosperity. Dajia was further developed into a political and military capital. However, twice city reshaping during the Japanese Reign erased Dajia’s original city traces left from Qing Dynasty with city walls and old streets nowhere to be seen today. In general, Dajia’s periods of development since the original cultivation in Qing Dynasty, its religious activities and city settlements development are all linked to each other, which has formed its unique historical vein and spatial quality. Therefore, this study focuses on the spatial change of Dajia City in Qing Dynasty to analyze and discuss the spatial and structural characteristics of each aforesaid period during the development of Dajia settlements with the help of related literatures, illustrations, photos left from Qing Dynasty and the Japanese Reign as well as field investigation.

博士<br>國立中興大學<br>水土保持學系所<br>96<br>The water resources of the Tachia River Basin in central Taiwan are intensively utilized for flood control, power generation, water supply and irrigation with Techi Dam, Chinshan Dam, Kukuan Dam, Tienlun Dam, Mann Dam and Shihkang Dam. The reservoirs created by these dams constitute a highly efficient utilization system of water resources. Six hydroelectric power stations were setup by Taiwan Power Company in the Tachia River Basin to supply the demand of voltage and frequency stabilities, the standby power during the peak load period and the spare power during the power system collapse. However, the 921 Earthquake in 1999 and subsequently heavy rain storms associated with typhoons during the May - November period had caused many serious landslides in the main stream and the tributaries of the upper reaches of Tachia River Basin. Major rainstorms in recent years included Typhoon Toraji in 2001, Typhoon Mindulle in 2004 and Typhoon Aere in 2004. Theses disastrous typhoon rainstorms triggered not only large scale of landslides but also debris flows and caused many serious roadbed destructions, river channel siltation and rising flood problems in the Tachia river system from Techi Dam to Maan Dam. Furthermore, the facilities of Tachia river power stations also suffered from various degrees of damages. Water conservancy facilities were also damaged. Many houses were destroyed and lives lost. This study first described and discussed the characteristics and severity of sedimentation related problems in Tachia River Basin. This study then made thorough investigations and analyses for the above-mentioned sedimentation problems soil and water disasters caused by natural factors (hydrology, meteorology, topography, geology, earthquake, etc.) and man-made factors (social, political, economic, etc.). Efforts were also made to quantitatively assess the sedimentation production for proper watershed conservation and management. In addition, effective conservation strategies and measures were proposed. These strategies were made on basis of comprehensive watershed management and conservation viewpoint for achieving sustainable development in the Tachia River Basin. The amounts of sediment production by soil erosion were estimated by using Win Grid with Universal Soil Loss Equation (USLE) modified for local use in this study. The estimated sedimentation amount contributed by landslides was calculated using different periods of aerial survey and satellite images to make a digital terrain model (DTM). The information of the total sediment output and spatial distribution were obtained through digital elevation model (DEM) and ArcGIS software. This represented a new and effective quantitative way for sedimentation problem evaluation. After careful evaluation of sedimentation problems related soil and water disaster of the Tachia River Basin the following conservation strategies and measures were proposed for implementation to protect, restore and enhance watershed stability and hydrologic characteristics. Firstly, the principle of natural restoration should be followed to coordinate with engineering measures that are considered necessary after critical assessment. In other words, engineering structures should not be adopted without proper comparison with other non-structural alternatives for mitigating disasters such as landslides, debris flows and riverbed siltation. The buffer zone can be adopted to protect the slope and road embankment. In addition, the ecological dykes can be used to protect riparian communities. A stable transportation and access systems for Tachia River Basin should also be critically evaluated with regard to necessity. Unnecessary and unstable roads should be put to bed with suitable vegetation methods. Above all, proper use of every piece of land in the watershed should be planned and implemented after land use capability evaluation. It should also be pointed out that proper comprehensive watershed conservation plan with suitable strategies and measures can only be designed and effectively implemented with inputs, supports and participation of the watershed residents to achieve sustainable development goal.

碩士<br>國立臺灣大學<br>地質科學研究所<br>93<br>This study focused on the effects of four events including typhoon Herb in 1996, 921-earthquake in 1999, typhoon Toraji in 2001, and typhoon Mindulle in 2004 along the catchments of Tachia River between Techi Dam and Ma-an Dam. We used SPOT satellite images and air photos to map landslide and analyzed the landslide data with GIS program. The measurement data of suspended-sediment load was conducted to estimate the annual sediment discharge and comparison of the unit sediment discharge before and after 921-earthquake. The result of rock strength test was used to discuss the relationships between geological environment and landslides-induced by typhoon and earthquake along the Tachia River. From the result of landslide mapping, we found the newborn landslide rate was 88% in 921-earthquake, 47% in typhoon Toraji, and 49% in typhoon Mindulle. The newborn landslide areas were 14 and 19 square kilometers in typhoon Toraji and Mindulle, respectively. It indicated that the completeness of formation was destroyed by 921-earthquake, so the landslide areas were increased. Besides, the reactive landslide rates were 51% in 921-earthquake, 59% in typhoon Toraji, and 66% in typhoon Mindulle. And the reactive landslide areas were 15 and 19 square kilometers in typhoon Toraji and Mindulle, respectively. It implied that the landslide induced by 921-earthquake was reacted more easily in consequent torrential rain events. According to rock strength test, the average uniaxial compressive strength of the Paileng Formatiom, Chiayang Formatiom and Tachien Sandstone were 107, 129 and 137 MPa. The average volumetric joint counts were 11.6, 10.9 and 12, respectively. The 48 % landslides induced by 921-earthquake in the Paileng Formation was higher than others. The landslide rate of the Chiayang Formation and the Tachien Sandstone were increased 5 and 11 times than that in typhoon Herb, respectively. It indicated that the high rock strength of formation with dense discontinuities was especially easily collapsed during the earthquake event. According to the data of the sediment discharge in typhoon Herb and Toraji, we found that the rainfall and total water discharge during typhoon Herb were 1.8 times than that during typhoon Toraji, but the sediment discharge during typhoon Herb was less 50% than that during typhoon Toraji. If we compared the data of suspended-sediment load, we found that the unit sediment discharge ratio was all greater than 1 before and after 921-earthquake. This result indicated that unit sediment discharge in the post-earthquake was greater than that in the pre-earthquake, so the ratio of unit sediment discharge raised in multiple times with the increasing of water discharge.

In this research, image analysis tool was also exploited to study the temporal and spatial morphologyofthesedimentsforthefourevents. Despitebeingseparatedforonly2.2km, two adjacent watersheds, DF025 and DF106, have different reactions to the earthquake and heavy rainfall events, thus sediment evolution analysis is approached differently for the two catchments. These differences could be attributed to different types of failure that occurred after Chi-Chi Earthquake- shallow landslides for DF025 while deep-seated landslide for DF106. The differences in source also translates to the type of basin in which DF025 could be categorized as supply-limited, while DF106 as supply-unlimited. Sediment-budget were estimated in the study where DF106 has an estimated deposition volume of 1.0 x 105 m3, 1.4 x 106 m3, and 1.1 x 106 m3 for Typhoon Toraji, Typhoon Mindulle, and Typhoon Aere, respectively. These deposits could travel downstream and create havoc to communities given the right conditions since only few debris reached Tachia River, same as DF025. The main objective of this research is to have a semiqualitative and semi-quantitative approach on the sediment evolution analysis on the watersheds with debris flow torrents along Tachia River.

For example, the Edinburgh Festival in England, Festival d’ Avignon in France, Next Wave Festival in New York, USA are ones of the most successful art festivals and became the models for other festivals in the world. As for the art festivals in Taiwan, they are numerous but some of them are not successful. They are even criticized as meaningless and criticized because they do not develop significant business opportunities for local communities. The research problem in this study is how to improve festival performance. Based on the Taichung County Tachia Mazu International Festival, this study is to examine festival performance considering marketing mix, gap theory, IPA (Important-Performance Analysis) and SWOT (strength, weakness, opportunity, threat). Its audience’s demographics are to be considered in assessing importance-performance, satisfaction, willingness to revisit and the interrelationship among these. This study uses the open style condition appraisal law for the inquiry way, the result showed 67.3% receive visits the inhabitant to be willing to pay, the price to account for 23.6% by $1,000 to be in the majority; pushes using the Tobit model estimates is willing to pay the price, obtains the rush weaving culture preservation to be willing to pay the price is $92.55. One of the key points in this project is to promote the “Traditional Crafts Technology”; its aim is to add value to the related culture, revive the local crafts, reveal the beauty of the traditional crafts and bring new life and opportunities to Taiwanese crafts. The famous three specialties of Ta Chia area include: the Jenn Lann Mazu Temple, Creamy Pastry, and Hats/Mats made of bulrushes. The bulrush-made hats/mats reflect at least two-hundred years of culture of traditional crafts. Due to the changing times, the development of this kind of craft is also facing challenges. In recent years, under the policy of local cultural development, community empowerment/development and culture/creative industry development, the rush weaving craft has been transformed into a multiple broadening, i.e. in artistic, refined and educational directions. The study aims at understanding the rush weaving craft in the Ta Chia area based on literature analysis and document analysis in order to understand the related historic development of this traditional industrial culture as well as the social background of industrial transformation. The business owners, craft creators and consumers were all subject to the in-depth interviews, so that a conclusion related to each factor that influenced the development of industry can be generalized and useful specific policies for the future development generated. As a result, local industry can be promoted once more, traditional craft value increased, local culture more greatly valued by the public and the rush weaving craft sustainably continued.

Therefore, we can establish the coverage of spatial distribution characteristic for each factor and integrate all of coverage into the Geographic Information System (GIS). By using the spatial analysis function of GIS, we can classify the degree of forest fire risk. In this paper, we use Tachia river working circle as study area. The effect factors of forest fire risk included the vegetation fuel, the distance of road, trial, settlement, rent and river, slope, aspect, the illegal activities in the forest etc. We divided the forest fire data into two periods (1963~1988, 1989~2005). Using the logistic regression analysis to fit the model of forest fire risk, we study the relationship of forest fire occurrence and effect factors for each periods, understand the reason of forest fire occurrence in the different period and finally to divide the forest fire hazard area of the spatial distribution in Tachia river working circle. The results show the forest fire risk were effected by the distance of trial, rent, river and the terrain factor of slope from 1963 to 2005. The early period from 1963 to 1988, forest fire risk was effect by the distance of river and the terrain factor of slope. It shows the geography is related closely to the forest fire. However, the forest fire risk was only related to the distance of rent from 1989 to 2005 that the occurrence of forest fire is coming from the agriculture activity of human. Finally, we divided three grades of forest fire risk for Tachia river working circle into high, medium and low that the spatial distribution of forest fire risk is established by the GIS tool.

We explored the degree of religious involvement toward Dajia Mazu and place attachment toward Jenn Lann Temple of residents. Futher, we examined the relationship among religious involvement, place attachment and health. The questionnaire was composed of the demographics, religious involvement, place attachment and the SF-36 in Taiwan. The religious involvement concluded religious practice, religious attendance and religious belief, the place attachment comprehended place dependence and place identity, and the SF-36 in Taiwan was composed of eight constructs to examine the physical and mental health. Results show the religious involvement toward Dajia Mazu and the place attachment toward Jenn Lann Temple were in the middle rank tended to high rank, and the residents’ health situation were nearly the same as one yaer before. Whereas the relationships among religious involvement, place attachment and health shows the higher the religion involve, the higher place attachment become. And the relationship between religious involvement and health show that the higher religious practice, the higher mental health will be. Further, we segmented groups and used multiple regression analysis to discover whether there were relationships among religious involvement, place attachment and health. We found that the relationships only appeared in few groups, such as the residents who live in Waipu, not in marriage, and 45 to 54-year-old males. According to the results above-mentioned, we made a discussion and advised some suggestions for further study.

We sample the senior high schools in Tachia District, Taichung City. The main conclusions are as follows: 1. Regarding service quality: (1)As for the responsiveness of service quality, significant differences exist among students categorized by different sex status, by different schools and by different mother’s vocations. (2)As for the reliability of service quality, significant differences exist among students categorized by different schools and by different mother’s vocations. 2. Regarding customer satisfaction: As for the customer satisfaction, significant differences exist among students categorized by different sex status and by different schools. 3. Regarding repurchase intentions: As for the repurchase intentions, significant differences exist among students categorized by different pocket money. 4. Regarding the correlation of consumer satisfaction and repurchase intentions: There are positive and significant correlations between customer satisfaction and repurchase intention.

(2)For senior high school students, there are significant differences in the empathy of service quality in terms of different father’s education level and mother’s education level. 2. As for the customer satisfaction of senior high school students : There are significant differences in customer satisfaction in terms of different residence. 3. As for the repurchase intentions of senior high school students: There are significant differences in repurchase intentions in terms of different residence, monthly pocket money, frequently consuming stores and frequently consuming time. 4. As for the correlation of satisfaction and repurchase intentions: Customer satisfaction has positive and significant influence on repurchase intention.

Abstract:
In this work we investigate an exact solution of Einstein's equations which is described by the Pleba'nski-Demia'nski metric. This metric represents type D space-times and contains seven free parameters, including electric and magnetic charges and a cosmological constant. We study geometrical and phy- sical properties of these space-times in the case when repeated principal null congruences have zero expansion. Therefore, first we study de Sitter universe and anti-de Sitter universe in the Pleba'nski-Demia'nski coordinates, and we care- fully analyze the corresponding parametrizations of (anti-)de Sitter hyperboloid in five-dimensional flat space-time, unknown so far, we draw the respective con- formal diagrams, and we find transformations to various known forms. After that, we investigate the more general case of the B metrics with a cosmological con- stant, and we do a basic analysis of its geometrical properties. We summarize the article by Gott from 1974, where he interprets the BI metric as a part of space-time with a tachyon singularity, and we generalize his results for the case of non-zero cosmological constant. Abstract:
The aim of this thesis is to describe forms of Greek religion in the context of Graeco-Bactrian kingdom. The lack of written sources is typical for the region, my analysis is therefore based on archaeological evidence. The first part of my thesis introduces the archaeological sources connected to the religion. A material culture of Graeco-Bactrian kingdom mixes both Greek and local traditions. The second part of the thesis analyses the formation of the Graeco-Bactrian religious identity. I compare the situation with other Hellenistic states, especially with Syria, using postcolonial models based on theories by Rachel Mairs and Irad Malkin. It seems that Graeco- Bactrian kingdom does not differ from other parts of Hellenistic world. The absence of Greek temples is especially remarkable, I suppose that Hellenistic religion inclined to respect local religious traditions. On the other hand, Hellenistic identity did not depend on Greek religion but on Greek education.
