Abstract:
This work intends to illustrate the methods of using the authentic literary text in the process of spreading Italian, especially in Baghdad where there is a strong propensity to learn the Italian language. The concept of the language that arises from literature is an idea closely linked to the mentality of the Arab learner towards Italian culture: an idea also created by the first Arabisations of literary texts in the early years of the previous century. The research was carried out in Baghdad by two researchers, an Italianist from Baghdad and an Italian mother language linguist, with the aim of bringing together the two sectors in favor of the diffusion of the Italian language. The study also aims to clarify the models from Italian literature most welcomed by those who study Italian in Iraq. In addition to making clear the conceptual phases of what is meant by a literary text in the process of dissemination of a language, and how to expand the literary canon by referring to the corpus of the language of the different genres of Italian literature.

Abstract:
Aim. To identify the importance of Italian culture for Pushkin’s personality.Methodology. The material of the article was the entire corpus of Pushkin’s literary heritage – his lyrics, poems, dramatic works, autobiographical prose and letters. The research is based on the continuous sampling method, biographical, cultural-historical, comparative-historical, as well as historical-functional approaches that allow us to holistically present the features of Pushkin’s “Italian text”.Results. The article reveals the substantive aspects of Pushkin’s “Italian text”, which are associated with the concepts of “beauty”, “freedom”, “Italian opera”. The degree of Pushkin’s knowledge of the Italian language is systematically presented, the details of his acquaintance with Italian culture are revealed. The hypothesis is put forward that Pushkin outlines the ways of development of Russian literature by analogy with the literature of Italy. Proposals on the thematic division of Pushkin’s “Italian locus text” are formulated.Research implications. The theoretical significance of the study is related to the systematic representation of the Italian theme in Pushkin’s work and the in-depth development of the problem of “locus text” in Russian literature

Abstract:
Abstract: The Italian Law n. 47 of 2017 on dispositions upon protection measures of foreign unaccompanied minors, represents the first normative text, which contemplates, in a uniform way, the protection of unaccompanied minors in the EU. On the other, it stand out the legal figure of a «volunteer guardian», institution that protect unaccompanied minors who arrive at the Italian territory (art. 11). Abstract Luigi Bonanate’s book “Costituzione italiana: articolo 11” analyses Article 11 of the Italian Constitution through the prism of its application. Bonanate provides the reader, in a clear and compelling style, with a complete interpretation of Article 11, combining the analysis of the preparatory work in the Constituent Assembly with its doctrinal interpretation and political application. The book does not only analyse the drafting of this article, but also focuses on the “political history of Article 11”, on the contemporary debate by the scientific community and, finally, on its relations with the international legal system.

Abstract:
Connecting expressions reveal how the speaker copes with text organisation; and studying aspects of the development of these forms in L2 varieties helps us throw light on both pragmatic and syntactic text organisation in interlanguages. Syntactically, linking markers are involved in the development of subordination; pragmatically, their presence gives a map of learners’ discourse articulation. The present investigation of Italian L2 interlanguages showed that simple clauses and coordination appear before subordination, and that subordinate clauses seem to develop from adverbial to complement and relative clauses. At the pragmatic level, connecting particles emerge in less developed interlanguages. The data presented here are relevant to theoretical research on subordination hierarchies (central vs. marginal forms) and those cognitive categories (time, cause, concession, etc.) which are more likely to be expressed syntactically and/or pragmatically.

Moreover, it describes the structure of the publication, methodological assumptions adopted by the authors, their objectives, and the way of their realisation. The analysis of these elements shows whether the work discussed can be an important point of reference for future academic works dedicated to Italian novels.

Abstract:
Vincenzo Gioberti's Del primato morale e civile degli italiani (1843) has been acknowledged as a major influence on moderate liberal thinking in the Risorgimento. Yet historians and political theorists have tended to dismiss the text as ponderous, unreadable or worse. The concern of this paper is to present what was once seen as a canonical text in terms that might make its initial appeal intelligible. Gioberti's text is set in the context of theological reappraisals within the Catholic tradition sparked by the rise of the national idea. The Primato managed to bring together currents of thought which are often regarded as antithetical. Catholic universalism was used to buttress and legitimize a specific view of the Italian nation. Gioberti's synthesis was to have a lasting impact on Italian liberalism, fostering a regard for established traditions rather than abstract rights. It also served to isolate revolutionaries and reactionaries in a dramatic and decisive decade for political debate in Italy.

Abstract:
AbstractThree ancient texts seem to attest to a division between eastern and western Valentinians. Closer analysis of these three texts suggests that such a conclusion would be too hasty. The first text, the title to one of Clement of Alexandria's works, is either unreliable or so specific that it calls into doubt the division. Hippolytus's testimony, the second text, is so laden with problems that it reliably attests to merely the existence of the Eastern Teaching, and possibly to its distinctive doctrinal position concerning the body of Jesus. The third text, by Tertullian, is vague and seems not to refer to an eastern-western division. In sum, the three texts have so many problems that any future efforts to develop a taxonomy of Valentinianism should not begin with this alleged geographical division.

Abstract:
Text summarization aims to produce a short summary containing relevant parts from a given text. Due to the lack of data for abstractive summarization on low-resource languages such as Italian, we propose two new original datasets collected from two Italian news websites with multi-sentence summaries and corresponding articles, and from a dataset obtained by machine translation of a Spanish summarization dataset. These two datasets are currently the only two available in Italian for this task. To evaluate the quality of these two datasets, we used them to train a T5-base model and an mBART model, obtaining good results with both. To better evaluate the results obtained, we also compared the same models trained on automatically translated datasets, and the resulting summaries in the same training language, with the automatically translated summaries, which demonstrated the superiority of the models obtained from the proposed datasets.

Abstract:
A note on the etymology of piotta ‘one hundred lire’ The paper examines the etymological hypotheses for the word piotta ‘one hundred lire’. It backdates its first occurrence in a text written in Italy, offers a plausible explanation of its diffusion from Piedmont and Emilia-Romagna into the central regions of Italy, and proposes that the presence of the intense -t- in the Romanesco dialect and Italian is due to the contact between jargon speakers speaking, among other things, also popular Italian, in its Piedmontese regional variety. The hypothesis that piotta comes etymologically from Piedmontese piòta ‘paw, leg’ is strengthened.

Abstract:
The first published essay by V.N. Ilyin about the culture of the Italian Renaissance introduces readers to the Renaissance concept of the author and his more general historiosophical views. This vibrant emotional text, full of philosophical and theological inspirations, transfers the readers to fifteenthcentury Florence, to the very heart of the Renaissance flourishing under the Medici dynasty. Ilyn reflects on the masterpieces of Fra Beato Angelico, Filippo Lippi, Benozzo Gozzoli, and other outstanding representatives of the Quattrocento. In connection with Florentine Renaissance history, the author raises such important issues as the continuity of Renaissance and medieval culture, the relationship between Christianity and paganism. The ideas expressed in this essay oppose the most influential Enlightenment view of the Renaissance as a period of a sharp break with the medieval worldview, an epoch of a shift from theocentric values to anthropocentric values, and the rebirth of paganism. Ilyin does not share the idea of a confrontation between medieval and Renaissance epochs, classic or Christian culture. His historiosophy is based on the idea of continuity. Constantly throughout the text, the author’s thought turns from the protagonist of the essay – Florence – to the history of his native Russian land from the epoch of John III to Soviet times. The philosopher reflects on the influence of Italian culture on the Russian world and on the historical gap caused by the Russian Revolution of 1917. The fate of his homeland is intertwined by Ilyin with far-magnificent Florence, which transforms in this essay into a metaphysical city, representing the ideal of beauty that saves and calls to spiritual transfiguration.

Abstract:
This article is the Polish version of the introduction to the Italian translation of the treatise by Father Józef Maria Bocheński OP (monastic name: Innocent) entitled: On patriotism. The author of the treatise, an outstanding Polish logician, lecturer at many universities in Europe and around the world, published his text originally intended for soldiers of the Polish II Corps fighting in Italy during the Second World War. The context of this edition, as well as the contemporary edition of the text in Italian (in the book: Alla guardia dello spirito e della fede. Il patriottismo polacco sulsuolo italiano neitestiripropostin el centenario della Battaglia di Varsavia (1920) e nel 25° anniversario della morte di padre Józef Maria (Di Innocenzo), a cura di M. Lenart, Opole University Press, Opole 2020) prompted the author of the article to show the value of patriotism in the context of Italian culture, in which this topic, and even the concept itself, is currently being eliminated from the public sphere. Thus, conducting discussions on topics related to patriotism encounters many difficulties despite the widespread belief in close cultural relations between Poland and Italy.

The verb between lexicon and text: analysis of written productions by Italian l2 learners

This study presents a linguistic and textual analysis of written productions of L2 Italian, with a focus on the verb forms used by learners. The linguistic analysis focused on the verb from both grammatical and lexical perspectives. In addition, the verb was observed in a precise argument structure (Verb + Direct Object), to investigate whether the semantic restrictions imposed by the verb in argument selection were respected. In parallel, the analysis also focused on the choice and use of the adverb, with the aim of observing how learners employed the adverb as a modifier of the verb. Textual analysis, on the other hand, focused on the architecture of the text and the semantic area and linguistic function of verbs in relation to the outline and text type. Finally, interesting reflections on the development of lexical and textual competence in Italian L2 are addressed.

Abstract:
Adjective intensification in L2 Italian: an analysis of young learners from South Tyrolean schools This study investigates adjective intensification in L2 Italian. Its targets are young learners from South Tyrolean upper secondary schools, where Italian is taught as a second language to L1 German and Ladin students. Data are extracted from a vast written corpus including both narrative and argumentative texts, and from a control corpus of native Italian students. The study investigates the distribution of the different adjective intensification types in learners’ texts; the ways learners’ L1s, language environment, proficiency level and text genre affect the use of intensified adjectives; the differences between learners and L1 students in the use of adjective intensification. Results show a dominant use of the prototypical form booster + adjective, competing with the suffix -issimo, which is used more by learners than by L1 students.

Abstract:
In this article we have compared thoroughly the Catalan with six Italian manuscripts and the original text in Latin. The divergences between original and translation have been ordered in three categories: additions, eliminations and modifications. Alegre’s methodology oscillates from a literal translation to a translation of original’s meaning. The results of this article will be compared later with Alegre’s methodology translating the Transformacions of Ovid. The ultimate objective is to define Francesc Alegre as a translator. Abstract:
This article deals with the case of alternative variants, i.e. those variants which are written by the author after the first draft of the text, but on which the author does not give us precise indications: “competing readings between which the author does not know how to decide, or in any case does not give certain signs of knowing how to decide” (Isella 1983, xxxv). The alternative variants are a “double text”: the first step of rewriting the text, where the author’s will manifests itself in a dual form. Thanks to the extraordinary richness of case studies offered by the Italian tradition — from the fourteenth to twentieth century (from Petrarch to Gadda) — alternative variants will be analyzed in their different typologies, over time to verify whether the ways of representing the “double text”, the “double will” of the author, have been similar or different in time, and whether it can be compared with alternative variants of other literary traditions.

The paper presents the results of an analysis aimed at mapping the themes through which covid-19 is represented in some Italian newspapers and the semantic structure that grounds and shapes the content of those themes. For this purpose, the ACASM (Automated Co-occurrence Analysis for Semantic Mapping) procedure was used and applied to a text corpus consisting of a set of national newspaper articles balanced by source, political orientation and publication period. The results show that Italian newspapers represented the pandemic according to four specific themes based on two semantic structures. The implications of these results are discussed.

Italian and local varieties at school: teaching experiences for an integrated vertical curriculum from an ecolinguistic perspective National guidelines and policies for the valorisation and protection of linguistic minorities and the heritage of local varieties call on schools to explore new educational pathways that integrate multilingual teaching (Italian, other languages and local varieties), in order to promote the students’ cultural and social competence, the development of their identity through the contact with linguistic and cultural diversity and democratic participation. This paper presents two experiences of integrated language teaching through the valorisation of local varieties for a vertical curriculum based on an ecolinguistic perspective, carried out in primary and secondary school classes of schools from an area near Palermo. In a primary school (class III), composed of Italian speakers with low competence in the local variety, the study of text types in Italian and the search for similar texts in Sicilian, carried out with the involvement of Sicilian-speaking grandparents, improved text analysis and communication skills and widened intergenerational language spaces. At secondary level, the students’ multilingual resources on Italian and the local variety allowed the discovery of the onomastic local repertoire and the creation of glossaries; the contrastive analysis activated metalinguistic processes and improved skills in dealing with different registers.

Abstract:
The development of textology and intertextuality opens up new perspectives in the interpretation of famous texts, including the song of the Italian Resistance participants Bella ciao . Its numerous polymodal representations in different languages and arts account for the need to systematize them on uniform methodological grounds. The material of the article is the song and poetic text in Italian dialects and in the common Italian neo-standard, its translations into Romance languages, interpretations in Russian, Caucasian and other languages, as well as multimedia and polychannel versions. The goal of the article is to discuss intertextual, semantic and semiotic parameters of the text; to establish the parameters of internal and external intertextuality of the versions of the original text; and to characterize the precedent phenomena serving as the basis for the development and transformation of their aesthetics. The study aims to build and interpret the precedent links and associations of the song Bella ciao in its intertextual transformations; to determine its specificity in the semiocultural conditions of reading and interpretation and at the same time to evaluate its place in the context of Italian and world culture. The methodology is based on a set of methods at the intersection of linguosemiotic, functional and semantic approaches focusing on such parameters of the text as precedence, variation, correlation of linguistic and non-linguistic codes, comparison of the original and translations, polycode, polymodal and translation transformations. The study has established that, as a result of numerous intertextual transformations, the original text expressing unique Italian cultural meanings acquires new interpretations acting as a starting point or the development of both precedent and new plots. It is used as a polycoded intersemiotic model for the creation of new interpretations and, in the long term, becomes a tool for the preservation and reproduction of cultural memory.

Abstract:
Genealogies persist in the writing of histories, if not to suggest lineages then to delight or dismay us with the effects of accident and circumstance. The first generation of Italian operas were all court, that is private, entertainments, whether produced in Florence, Mantua, Rome or Turin. When this new form of entertainment first emigrated, it spoke Italian in foreign courts (except in Madrid), perhaps because it was so identified in its novelty with still novel Italian musical styles, with the dramaturgy of Italian spectacle and above all with the Italian way of singing. It travelled to the Habsburg imperial court early, in Prague, 1627. Like this performance, later occasional stagings in Vienna and Innsbruck remained in Italian and at first by Italians, though eventual progeny included scores by Gluck and Mozart. The court in Madrid, however, heard in 1627 a version of opera with a libretto by Lope de Vega, La selva sin amor; its score was by a theatrically inexperienced Tuscan lutenist, Filippo Piccinni. Madrid did not essay opera again until 1660. The court of Sigismund III in Warsaw heard Italian opera beginning in 1628, possibly with a Mantuan score. Opera made its way to Paris only in 1645, where, after acquiring a French text and French dancing and singing, it became one of the glories of the royal court. The cradle of opera, in all these cases, was the court, with all its resources in terms of money, an obligated audience and more than willing professionals, whether imported or local.

Abstract A digital project that has been implemented in an advanced Italian grammar class during the 2023 Spring semester aimed to enhance the students’ comprehension of a literary text, provide them with an opportunity to creatively expand on it, and, simultaneously, offer a multimedia learning experience. Students applied ArcGIS StoryMaps to the content of Somali-Italian writer Igiaba Scego's Prestami le ali (2020). The software supported their understanding of the cultural, social, and historical components of the text by making its storyline and global geography easier to pinpoint and visualize. Moreover, it stimulated the students’ creativity by connecting the text to resources (textual, visual, digital) that made the story more accessible and in alignment with their own interests and/or areas of study. Students worked primarily in the target language (Italian) as they completed scaffolded and collaborative activities, both inside and outside of the classroom, and explored aspects of Italian history and culture.

Abstract:
The article examines the use of the demonstrative pronoun tot in the language of The History of the Present State of the Ottoman Empire (manuscript BAN, 31.3.22), which was translated by Piotr Tolstoy from Italian at the beginning of the 18 th century. The examples of tot are grouped by syntactic and semantic functions and compared to the Italian original. While some Italian-Russian parallels for other demonstratives are merely constant (such as quello - onyj , questo - sei , tale , tanto - takoj ), the demonstrative tot can be used to translate any Italian anaphoric demonstrative, which indicates that it was being unmarked as a means of anaphora. The noun + tot group often serves as the equivalent of a noun with a definite article, but in these cases an antecedent can be found in the preceding text and therefore the demonstrative is a means of anaphora; if an antecedent cannot be found, the translator has to use another grammar construction. This implies that the demonstrative tot was not a complete analogue of the definite article. In many cases tot does not have a corresponding demonstrative in the Italian text: the fact that reveals the various grammatical functions of tot . For example, as a determiner, it is widely used in the Russian text to translate different Italian syntactic constructions; some adverbial collocations and compound conjunctions with tot are used to translate Italian adverbs and conjunctions that do not contain demonstratives.

Abstract:
In response to the global imperative of environmental sustainability, higher education institutions play a pivotal role in shaping a green-conscious society. This study delves into the landscape of Italian university education, analyzing the green educational offer and examining the degree programs with a dedicated focus on environmental sustainability promoted during the academic year 2021–2022. For this purpose, we employed statistical-textual analyses techniques to examine the texts describing the educational objectives and the expected professional outcomes after the completion of the study paths for 179 Italian green degree courses (BA and MS), analyzing a corpus resulting in 144,709 occurrences. In particular, the multifaceted nature of the green educational approach, including its multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary orientation, attention to territorial dynamics, intersectoral collaboration, and the balance between theoretical and applied training, are studied. The results reveal an integration of these crucial elements within the Italian university educational offer. This research addresses the growing importance of environmental sustainability in higher education and provides insights into how Italian universities contribute to this global discourse. The findings contribute to ongoing discussions on refining educational strategies, aligning with global sustainability goals, and fostering a generation of environmentally conscious and skilled professionals.

The “Brain’s Tyre” in a “Faint Light of Progress”: The Pitfalls of Syntagmatic and Indirect Translation on the Example of the Italian Version of Bieguni (Flights) by Olga Tokarczuk
This paper is devoted to the Italian translation of Bieguni by Olga Tokarczuk, entitled I Vagabondi. As the author argues, it is a kind of patchwork translation, partly translated from the original language, partly from the novel’s English version (Flights). The Italian translation of both source texts, Polish and English, contains a full range of typical syntagmatic translation errors, consisting in mechanically reproducing the structures of the source language (word-for-word translation) without delving into the meaning of the translated text. The author analyses at first, on selected examples, translation errors from the Polish source text, distinguishing between lexical errors and dictionary equivalents, including those impeding the fluidity of the target text, false friends, calques, misinterpretation errors as well as omissions and additions. He focuses next on analogous errors produced in the indirect translation from English, sorting separately the lexical and interpretative errors resulting already in the English intermediate text and reproduced in the Italian translation.

Abstract:
This paper deals with the comparison based on Turcisms in the Italian translation of the novel Derviš i smrt by Meša Selimović. The novel was published in 1966 and Lionello Costantini did the translation from the then Serbo-Croatian to Italian (Il derviscio e la morte) in 1983. This paper focuses on the issue of translation equivalents, as some of the most important elements in the translation process, and on the process of translation itself, as well. A comparative analysis of the culturally specific elements in the original text and their translation in the target language was made, primarily of the examples of comparison based on Turcisms. We attempted to explain the motives behind these translation choices, and then tried to establish how close these choices are t Italian readers and whether they affect the process of understanding the translated text as much as the original text affects the readers of Serbo-Croatian. This paper aims to show which of the two processes suggested by the German theologist and philosopher Friedrich Schleiermacher (and then adopted by Venuti, Berman, and others) prevails between the original and the translated text. In other words, this paper is aimed at establishing whether the Italian translation of the novel Death and the Dervish enables the reader to fully grasp the linguistic and cultural universe of the period in which Selimović placed his work, or whether the translator had to reshape the original text so to fit the scope of understanding and cultural peculiarities of Italian readers.

The goal of this work lies in definition and scientific description of combination of the basic grammatical means for expression of category of reason in a scientific text (on the material of German, Italian and Russian languages). The subject of this research is a comparative analysis of the structural and semantic peculiarities of grammatical means for the expression of reason in a scientific text of the XXI century (on the material of German, Italian and Russian languages). The relevance is substantiated by insufficient study within comparative linguistics of the ways to represent the category of reason on grammatical level by comparing several languages (in this case, German, Italian and Russian). The scientific novelty of consists in conducting comparative analysis of grammatical language means for the expression of semantic category of reason in German, Italian and Russian scientific text of the XXI century. Within the framework of contrastive analysis, the author revealed the peculiarities of structuring the functional-semantic field of reason on the example of the texts under consideration. The acquired results allow concluding that in such type of texts the functional semantic field of causality is represented by grammatical means that express reason in a general form or with additional connotation. The presented materials can be applied in the course of lectures on comparative typology of the German, Italian and Russian languages.

Nowadays economic constitutional principles are not only in the Italian Constitution but also, and specially, in European Treaties. Italian adhesion to the EEC Treaty and then to the UE Treaty has demanded: a new interpretation of economic constitutional rules, due to the liberal conception of European Treaties; then, the 2001 constitutional reform; afterwards, the elaboration of parliament acts in order to protect free markets; and, last, the amendment to include «free competition» in the constitutional text. On the other hand, European Treaties have been reformed and interpretated according to the constitutional order and particularly to the welfare State principle.

Abstract:
The emergence of attention-based architectures has led to significant improvements in the performance of neural sequence-to-sequence models for text summarization. Although these models have proved to be effective in summarizing English-written documents, their portability to other languages is limited thus leaving plenty of room for improvement. In this paper, we present BART-IT, a sequence-to-sequence model, based on the BART architecture that is specifically tailored to the Italian language. The model is pre-trained on a large corpus of Italian-written pieces of text to learn language-specific features and then fine-tuned on several benchmark datasets established for abstractive summarization. The experimental results show that BART-IT outperforms other state-of-the-art models in terms of ROUGE scores in spite of a significantly smaller number of parameters. The use of BART-IT can foster the development of interesting NLP applications for the Italian language. Beyond releasing the model to the research community to foster further research and applications, we also discuss the ethical implications behind the use of abstractive summarization models.

This article examines an Italian translation of the Pronosticatio by Johannes Lichtenberger (originally written in Latin and printed in Germany for the first time in 1488) preserved in the manuscript London Wellcome Library 425, dated 1504. MS 425 contains nearly the complete text, with the exception of a couple of paragraphs and the xylographic apparatus; here we are concerned just with the Italian version of Lichtenberger’s work in which, both in the text and the images (which are presented here thanks to the wide circulation of this text distributed by Italian publishers in 14 printed editions), more than fifty different animals are mentioned. Focusing on this concentration of animals, we will offer a reading of the narrative role of the animal within the prophetic genre, accompanied by some hypotheses regarding what a 1504 reader (the date is contained in the manuscript itself) could have thought and in which way he may have interpreted this kind of text.

The theme of this paper is the image of Bosnia by Luchino Dal Verme (1838- 1911), a politician, diplomat, geographer and traveller, who in 1903 set off from Italy on a journey across the Adriatic Sea and on to Bosnia. He left a testimony of his experience in the text ‘An Excursion to Bosnia’, published in the Nuova Antologia in 1903.
The aim of the paper is to identify odeporic elements in a text of a hybrid nature with elements of geography, history and literature and to show that the perception of this region of the Balkans changed at the beginning of the 20th century. From the wild, primitive and hostile land of the 19th century travellers, the image offered by Luchino Dal Verme changes radically. This affirms the importance of this traveller’s profile, a cultured and informed man. With a considerable cultural background, he observes and accepts the Other and his land, without conditioning.

Abstract:
SummaryThe Italian representatives in the Brussels Constitutional Convention played a greater role than expected. The Italians, who many thought would be destined to a role as pigmies in the Convention because of ideological differences and the personal mistrust they carried from their domestic arena, acted mostly as giants in the contributions they provided to the final text. The representatives of both the government and the opposition identified a series of points upon which they agreed and which were introduced in the final document. These positions, although not federalist, were much more advanced than those described as ‘intergovernmental’ or ‘confederal’. There were many reasons for this. The deliberative method adopted in the Convention probably helped this convergence. Certainly, the Italians wanted to keep open the dialogue with the main EU member-states at a moment when the war with Iraq was undermining it, and the Italian representatives in the Convention shared a pro-European attitude, while this attitude was being called into question in the domestic arena by the Berlusconi government.

Abstract:
Parole chiave: Miquel i Planas; traduzione; rifacimento; tradizione Abstract: The recent publication of the Italian translation of La llegenda del llibreter assassí by Ramon Miquel i Planas provides an opportunity to make a comparison with some previous Spanish translations and to reflect briefly on translation methods. The two Spanish versions (1991 and 2011), unlike the Italian one, are free reworkings of the original, in the sense that they alter the structure, transform the text and shape it to new ends. What is interesting about this «manipulation» is that it is in some way legitimised by the heterogeneous nature of Miquel i Planas’s work, which is both an erudite volume and an anthology of different narrative materials, as well as by the varied ways in which the Catalan scholar handles materials relating to legends. The versions of Llegenda thus permit the inclusion of this reflection on translation in the sphere of the reception of a text and of the influence exerted by the tradition surrounding a text on the ways it is translated.
