Abstract:
Svend Clausen: Are the Annales Bartholiniani based on Danish medievalannals? The article discusses the so-called Annales Bartholiniani, written by the Danish scholarThomas Bartholin (1659‑1690). Analysis of a series of events that are clearly dated incorrectlyin the Annales Bartholiniani and a comparison of the dating of these eventswith the content of Danish medieval annals suggest that the inaccurate dating of suchevents in the Annales Bartholiniani must go back to the Danish medieval annalistictraditions. This proves that a great deal of the content of the Annales Bartholinianimust go back either directly or indirectly to the content of Danish medieval annals. Italso points to the fact that there needs to be more discussion of the Annales Bartholinianiin future studies, as they also contain a great deal of information not availableelsewhere, and the close link between them and the content of Danish medieval annalsmakes it much more likely that Bartholin may have used also some Danish medievalannals now lost in addition to the medieval annals still known to us. In this respect, such an identified close link between the Annales Bartholiniani and the known contentof the Danish medieval annalistic traditions may help significantly in explaining alsosome of the otherwise unknown information present in the Annales Bartholiniani.Discussions of the content for years such as 1087 and 1142, for example, suggest thatspecific details such as these may go back directly or indirectly to a now lost medievalDanish annalistic tradition.

Abstract:
The Annales ecclesiastici (12 vols, 1588–1607), composed by the Italian cardinal Cesare Baronio, rank amongst the most important publications of the Counter-Reformation era. Their fame earned Baronio his cardinal’s hat, while their impact on the Catholic world far exceeded that of the rival Magdeburg Centuries among Protestants. Recent scholarship has thrown new light on the aims and reception of the Annales. In particular, scholars have shown that Baronio was preoccupied more with the conversion of heretics than with their confutation, and they have demonstrated that the reception of the Annales, especially in the Iberian Peninsula, was less unanimously positive than hitherto supposed. Building on these insights, this article turns to Baronio’s much neglected authorial persona, not only as an ecclesiastical historian but also as an aspiring saint. It studies the ways in which Baronio’s own personal virtues and those of his mentor, Philip Neri, were used to present the Annales as a work of, quite literally, divine inspiration, before turning to the reception of the Annales in Catholicism’s northern borderlands. The article suggests that even there the Annales were more controversial than realized, but that ambivalence was masked by the dictates of time and place.

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:
The article is a study of the Ecole des annals' impact on the first generation of Iraqi historians and historiography during the 20th century. The Ecole des annals had emerged as a reaction of the 1st world war disasters and its destructive results which implicated on the political, economic and intellectual situations in Europe during the interwar period. The school had founded in 1929 by two French historians: Marc Bloch (1886-1944) and Lucien Febvre (1878-1956), and published its first journal " Annales d'histoire économique et sociale", in addition to publications of the school which concentrated on social and economic history, and kept away from the political history which was the main interest of "École méthodique" (Methodological school) since late 19th century and its journal " Revue historique" at 1876. The annals school had important influences on the European and American, and then world historiography since its rise up to present. The school had moved the historiography from political and diplomatic aspects to social, intellectual and economic issues.

Abstract:
<p>Annals of Geophysics is a bimonthly international journal, which publishes scientific papers in the field of geophysics sensu lato. It derives from Annali di Geofisica, which commenced publication in January 1948 as a quarterly periodical devoted to general geophysics, seismology, earth magnetism, and atmospheric studies. The journal was published regularly for a quarter of a century until 1982 when it merged with the French journal Annales de Géophysique to become Annales Geophysicae under the aegis of the European Geophysical Society. In 1981, this journal ceased publication of the section on solid earth geophysics, ending the legacy of Annali di Geofisica. In 1993, the Istituto Nazionale di Geofisica (ING), founder of the journal, decided to resume publication of its own journal under the same name, Annali di Geofisica. To ensure continuity, the first volume of the new series was assigned the volume number XXXVI (following the last issue published in 1982). In 2002, with volume XLV, the name of the journal was translated into English to become Annals of Geophysics and in consequence the journal impact factor counter was restarted. Starting in 2010, in order to improve its status and better serve the science community, Annals of Geophysics has instituted a number of editorial changes including full electronic open access, freely accessible online, the possibility to comment on and discuss papers online, and a board of editors representing Asia and the Americas as well as Europe.
