Abstract:
The Program Evaluation and Review Technique (PERT) is a popular scheduling technique that takes advantage of the Beta distribution to present uncertainty in activity durations. This study presents an advanced PERT method with an improved Bayesian updating and improved assumed prior distributions, which better represent real-world projects. The method is backed with detailed mathematical proofs and derivations for a solid theoretical foundation. A numerical case study involving a 30-floor building construction project is used to compare the performance of traditional PERT, the Beta-improved Bayesian PERT, and the Log-Normal Bayesian PERT methods. In the example, the activities considered are Formwork, Rebar and Construction, Masonry, Mechanical-Electrical-Plumbing (MEP), and Finishing, which are the main activities in a construction project. The results show that the Beta-improved and the Log-Normal distributions are constructed successfully in the models with converging variance – an observation that delineates the uncertainty reduced along a real project’s course. With enhanced functions, the PERT method can be utilized to support project decision-makers in scheduling and managing complex projects in reality.

Abstract:
Abstract The idea to build the Sunda Strait Bridge, popularly known as Jembatan Selat Sunda (JSS), began in the government of Indonesia's first president, Sukarno, which connect two islands with the largest economy in Indonesia, Sumatra Island and Java Island. This ambitious project will become a single mega infrastructure project with the largest investment in Indonesia. The successful completion of a project can be associated to the completion of a project on time. Accurate calculation of project time duration estimation is the key to the success of an infrastructure project delivery on time. Many practitioners in construction industry nowadays are having difficulties to estimates project duration correctly. Choosing the appropriate method in scheduling planning is the key to the successful estimation of a project. This research proposes the use of the M-PERT scheduling method which is the development of the conventional PERT with a higher degree of accuracy. As a case study, this research uses the Suspension Bridge section, which is one part of the overall phase of the construction of the JSS infrastructure project. The results of this research produce estimates of the project duration using M-PERT is 2104.38 days. It gives the estimation error is less than 1% when compared with the simulated curves. As a comparison, this research also calculates duration estimation using conventional PERT and it gives 2013 days with error more than 24% when compared with the simulated curves. A step-by-step process to estimate project duration using M-PERT method are also include in supplemental data. Abstract:
Construction project scheduling is one of the most critical factors for project success measurement. Critical Path Method (CPM) is commonly used in the construction industry for project scheduling. CPM is a deterministic method that ignores uncertainties in activities through the network, which determines the duration of the projects. Program Evaluation and Review Technique (PERT) is a probabilistic method based on the assumption that the duration of a single activity can be described by a probability density function. PERT takes into account the uncertainties during the construction process to plan, schedule and control complex projects with many uncertainties. The work reported in this paper describes the PERT work process to carry out the construction schedule risk assessment and illustrates the model through case studies. The utilization in the estimate the construction liquidated damage with the uncertainties is performed, which also can be used in the insurance company to calculate the insurance premium.

CPM (Critical Path Method) and PERT (Project Evaluation and Review Technique) are methods in mathematics that use network principles to predict the duration of a project's implementation. Through these two methods, critical activities will be determined that can affect the accuracy or delay of the completion of a project. The focus of this study to provide an overview of the implementation of CPM and PERT in an effort to predict the duration and cost of building the Al-Ikhlas Mosque located in West Kotawaringin, Central Kalimantan. This research carries the type of descriptive research with a quantitative approach. Interview techniques and document review were carried out to obtain data in the form of types of activities, duration of each activity, development costs, and the human resources involved. The collected data was then analyzed using CPM and PERT. The results showed that the implementation of CPM and PERT can predict the duration of the mosque construction project which is shorter than the initial prediction. The shorter duration of construction has the effect of reducing the cost of building a prayer room, especially the cost for labor.

Abstract:
The problem of parameter elicitation has restricted project managers to the use of few known and sometimes unrealistic input activity distributions in Project Evaluation and Review Technique (PERT). In this paper, the problem of parameter elicitation in PERT with Burr XII activity duration distribution is addressed using classical quantile estimation approach. The proposed method uses any two extreme quantiles alongside the median quantile to develop a procedure for the estimation of activity duration in PERT-Burr XII. Some desirable properties that qualify Burr XII distribution as input duration distribution are also outlined. An adequacy check was demonstrated by comparing the absolute percent errors of the mean estimates from the proposed method with the PERT-Beta and other approximations from the PERT-Beta family. The proposed method presents a relatively simple and accurate procedure for parameter elicitation in PERT. The procedure is therefore recommended for wide application in PERT especially where heavily tailed and right skewed data are involved.

Abstract:
Program Evaluation and Review Technique (PERT) is widely used for project management in real world applications. The aim of this paper is to simulate and analyze a PERT network under conditions of uncertainty though a hybrid model. The basic assumption is that a project under extreme conditions of uncertainty can be satisfactorily modelled by using simple fuzzy linguistic variables to estimate activities durations, and a probability distribution function randomly selected in order to measure the activity times. Fuzzy linguistic expressions are used to estimate the activity time. Activity parameters are calculated by using basic operations between triangular fuzzy numbers and centroid method with classical Beta PERT definition. For each activity time a probability distribution function is randomly selected from a set of four possible distributions commonly cited in the literature. Hypothetical projects with 4, 40, 400 and 4000 activities using the proposed model are analyzed; the project duration is estimated through Monte Carlo Simulation. Finally, results are analyzed and compared with classical Beta PERT technique.

This study aims to analyze the application of project management in pipe installation activities at PT. XYZ using the Critical Path Method (CPM) and Project Evaluation and Review Technique (PERT). The research method used is a descriptive quantitative approach through field observation, literature study, project activity data collection, and analysis of the Activity on Node (AON) type network. The results of the study indicate that the critical path of the project includes activities A–B–D–F–H–I, with an estimated duration of 144 days using CPM and 142.4 days using PERT. The calculation of the normal probability distribution shows that the chance of the project being completed within 144 days reaches 72.24% when using PERT. The conclusion of this study is that the PERT method provides a more efficient time estimate and takes into account uncertainty, making it more suitable for use in planning and controlling complex pipe installation projects. Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to develop a model based on data envelopment analysis (DEA) and program evaluation and review technique/critical path method (PERT/CPM) for determining prospective benchmarks. Design/methodology/approach – The idea of determining prospective benchmark is needed for developing a model for future planning where inputs and outputs of systems are influenced by external factors such as economic conditions, demographic changes, and other socio-economic factors. In this paper, the PERT/CPM method estimates prospective inputs and outputs. On the other hand, in particular systems some measures play the role of both input and output. Such factors in DEA literature are called dual-role factors. This paper integrates PERT/CPM technique and the DEA. Findings – The results of the proposed model depict that a present benchmark may not be a benchmark in future. A numerical example validates the proposed model. Originality/value – This paper, for the first time, applies the PERT/CPM technique to incorporate the ideas for identifying prospective benchmarks. Moreover, the proposed model is an alternative solution for classifying inputs and outputs in DEA. Also, the proposed model is utilized in benchmarking green supply chain management.

Abstract:
An air-conditioning and mechanical ventilation (ACMV) construction project involved many interrelated construction activities with varying durations and multiple dependencies. This paper focuses on the development of a best possible project planning and scheduling technique that can help the project manager to manage and complete the ACMV project in optimal time. The program evaluation and review technique (PERT) is used in this research. The PERT technique helps to determine the probabilities of various stages of the project by specified deadlines and identify the activities on the critical path that have high potential for causing delays in the project completion time. The completion times of 72, 76, 79, and 80 weeks were taken for the PERT analysis. Deadline of 72 weeks is the contractual period of the ACMV project as specified in the contract. Completion time of 76 weeks is the critical path of the project as analyzed by the PERT technique. The deadline of 79 weeks is the proposed completion time for the ACMV project whereas 80 weeks are the actual completion date of the project. The PERT analysis revealed that the project completion time of 72 weeks, which is as stated in the contractual completion time, yielded the probability of completion of 2.67% only. This analysis shows that the contractual period is impossible to be achieved and it is an unrealistic time setting. Further negotiation is required including changing or extending of the contractual completion time. The other completion times are able to be achieved but the company may need to face the high penalty costs due to the delays in completion time.

This study explains how to apply the Program Evaluation and Review Technique (PERT) from the project management discipline to quantify uncertainty for the research phase in a Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) degree. Doctorate programs are expensive and time consuming yet unfortunately they have high attrition rates (failure to complete). Although course work is very structured, the unpredictable nature, complexity and variability of research activities make a DBA program risky for students, supervisors, funding sources, and the university (due to high expectations and accreditation criteria). As the US Navy successfully applied PERT on their complex Fleet Ballistic Missile and Polaris Submarine Weapon projects, it is argued that this methodology could help quantify uncertainty and reduce risk in the doctorate research phase. Statistical techniques are utilized to test the hypothesis that PERT is a reliable task duration estimation and planning method for DBA research (based on a sample).

Abstract:
Construction housing projects involve many risks and uncertainties that can affect their completion time. To ensure a construction housing project is completed on time, an accurate duration estimate is required for each activity. Deterministic duration methods, such as the Critical Path Method (CPM), are commonly used in project scheduling for construction projects. However, this method may not always produce a realistic schedule as it uses only a single duration estimation for each activity. As an alternative, this study uses the Program Evaluation and Review Technique (PERT) which utilizes three duration estimates namely optimistic duration, most likely duration, and pessimistic duration. A house construction project with 23 activities was analyzed using CPM to find the critical activities which produced 59 days of completion time. The critical path duration was then analyzed using PERT. PERT calculations found that there was only a 15% probability to complete the project in 59 days, and the project needed 66 days of completion time with a 95% level of confidence. The findings of this study indicate that PERT can assist project managers in creating a more realistic project schedule by considering the risks and uncertainties in estimating the duration of its activities.

Abstract This research aims to optimize the scheduling of the production and marketing processes for moringa leaf products at Moza Cafe Kupang using the Program Evaluation and Review Technique (PERT) model. The developed products include moringa coffee, moringa masks, and moringa snacks, all featuring moringa leaves as the main ingredient, known for their rich nutrient content and numerous health benefits. The PERT model is used to map all production and marketing activities of moringa leaf products, estimate the implementation time of each activity, and identify critical pathways that determine the duration of production and marketing of moringa leaf products. The data used in this study consisted of primary and secondary data. Primary data was obtained through direct observation of the production process and semi-structured interviews with Moza Cafe owners, while secondary data came from scientific literature, books, and journals related to the benefits of moringa leaves and the application of the PERT model. The data analysis techniques used include quantitative analysis with the PERT approach to calculate the estimated time and variance of each activity, as well as qualitative analysis to interpret constraints and operational strategies. The results showed that the critical path of production and marketing of moringa leaf products had a total duration of 85 days, with the most impactful activities being moringa leaf preparation and packaging production. The application of the PERT model has been proven to help Moza Cafe in planning and controlling the production and marketing of moringa leaf products efficiently, as well as identifying areas that can be improved to optimize the production process and distribution of moringa leaf products in a sustainable manner. AbstractScheduling project implementation time is an important part of achieving construction project success. Scheduling is an activity to determine the time the activities needed to complete the work. The effect of scheduling on the construction project can have an impact on the project revenue itself, because the longer the time needed, the operational costs will also increase. One method in determining the time scheduling of a project work is PERT (Program Evaluation and Review Technique) Method. The application of PERT method in scheduling project implementation time is to arrange PDM network, Microsoft Project Program can help in planning networking and finding work items that are included in the critical path, estimating three times, namely optimistic time (to), pessimistic time (tp), and most likely time. Then calculate the activity time (Te), Standard Deviation (S), Variation of activities (Ve), and find the probability value. The implementation of the TelkomGroup Surabaya Building project is planned to be built in two buildings consisting of 7 floors of building equipment and 17 floors of the main building. The planning of the construction of the TelkomGroup Surabaya building is planned within 665 days, with the PERT method the project implementation time can be optimized to 576 days with the opportunity to reach only 0.14%..AbstrakPenjadwalan waktu pelaksanaan proyek merupakan bagian yang penting untuk mencapai keberhasilan proyek konstruksi. We present two values for measuring the importance of each activity. Both values are obtained through an axiomatic characterization using three properties. The first value is characterized with separability, monotonicity, and order preservation. The second value is characterized with separability, equal treatment inside a component, and independence of large durations. We also present an application to the problem of how to share the surplus obtained when a project finishes before the expected completion time.

High-throughput screening systems are robotic cells that automatically scan and analyze thousands of biochemical samples and reagents in real time. The problem under consideration is to find an optimal cyclic schedule of robot moves that ensures maximum cell performance. To address this issue, we proposed a new efficient version of the parametric PERT/CPM project management method that works in conjunction with a combinatorial subalgorithm capable of rejecting unfeasible schedules. The main result obtained is that the new fast PERT/CPM method finds optimal robust schedules for solving large size problems in strongly polynomial time, which cannot be achieved using existing algorithms.

Abstract:
Decision-making in construction bidding represents a complex process due to the present risk. Risk or uncertainty cannot be ignored and should be treated as a constituent of decision-making. The paper aims to emphasize the importance of probability theory by comparing insufficiently applicable methods in practical bidding. The triangular distribution and the PERT method belong to three-point estimate techniques, while payoff matrices represent a multi-criteria approach. Also, selected methods belong to quantitative techniques for risk cost analysis. Still, the risk costs determination of the unit costs and the total costs of bids is often based on an intuitive approach. Therefore, compared results of the triangular distribution, PERT method, and payoff matrix techniques (minimin, minimax, expected monetary value, and expected opportunity loss) indicate the significance of risk costs estimating in tendering. The analysis of the results showed some overlaps in risk costs values obtained by the PERT method and expected monetary value technique. Those are due to the specificity of the chosen practical example and cannot be adopted as a rule. This means that selected methods and techniques are very useful for all bid estimation. The paper proved the complexity of decision-making, where the primary goal is to award a contract.

Abstract:
The video game industry has grown exponentially over the past few decades, becoming a dominant force in the global entertainment sector. Despite its rapid growth, the game development process remains highly complex and distinct from traditional software development, requiring a creative and agile approach. This paper addresses the challenge of inaccurate time estimation in game development projects, which often results from the inherent uncertainty inherent in the iterative and creative nature of the industry. This study integrates the Critical Path Method (CPM) and the Program Evaluation and Review Technique (PERT) with the Rayleigh distribution to improve the accuracy of time estimation in the context of high uncertainty. Data from a completed game development project by an Indonesian game company is analyzed using this methodology. The results show that the Rayleigh-PERT model, with 70% confidence and an expert quality estimate of 0,3, provides the most accurate time estimation, showing only a 4,26% deviation from actual project performance, compared to 20% for CPM and 15,2% for traditional PERT. This research contributes to improving project management in the video game industry by incorporating uncertainty into time estimation, offering more realistic schedules for game development projects, and improving overall project execution.

The prediction of project completion time, which is important in project management, is only based on an estimate of three numbers, namely the fastest, slowest, and presumably time. The common practice of applying normal distribution through Monte Carlo simulation in Program Evaluation and Review Technique (PERT) research often fails to accurately represent project activity durations, leading to potentially biased project completion prediction. Based on these problems, a different method is proposed, namely, Discrete Event Simulation (DES). The research aims to evaluate the effectiveness of the simmer package in R in conducting PERT analysis. Specifically, there are three objectives in the research: 1) develop a simulation model to predict how long a project will take and find the critical path, 2) create an R script to simulate discrete events on a PERT network, and 3) explore the simulation output using the simmer package in the form of summary statistics and estimation of project risk. Then, a library research with a descriptive and exploratory method is used for data collection. The hypothetical network is used to obtain the numerical results, which provide the predicted value of the project completion, the critical path, and the risk level. Simulation, including 100 replications, results in a predicted project completion time and a standard deviation of 20.7 and 2.2 weeks, respectively. The DES method has been proven highly effective in predicting the completion time of a project described by the PERT network. In addition, it offers increased flexibility.

Abstract:
This paper deals with an analysis of Critical Path Method (CPM) and Programme Evaluation Review Technique (PERT) in Project Network. Here, we solve the PERT and CPM methodology using intervals and we determine the critical path and project duration of the network. We can also convert the fuzzy parameters (triangular and trapezoidal fuzzy numbers) into intervals using α − cuts. After which, we calculate the project duration and critical path. To illustrate this, numerical examples are provided.

Abstract:
The construction of cafe and salon by PT DTD has been delayed in terms of time. The purpose of this study is to calculate the best time optimization and determine the critical path of the cafe and salon construction project at PT DTD. This research is an evaluation of a project that has been completed. The methods used are Critical Path Method (CPM) and Project Evaluation Review Technique (PERT). The software used is POM-QM for Windows. The project runs for 15 months or 62 weeks from the initial target of the contractor being 8 months. Using POM-QM, from the PERT method, the optimum time for the project is 50 weeks. Project optimization can be carried out using PERT and CPM methods with POM QM software.

Abstract:
Project planning, cost, time, quality, contract administration, and safety management are the regulated aspects of construction in construction management. As a result, project objectives cannot be realized without competent construction management. Planning, execution, and control are the three main functions of construction management. All human and other project resources are managed through these three processes: planning, execution, and review. The purpose of this study aims to determine construction time management, find out how long the project duration will take if using CPM and PERT methods, analyze CPM and PERT on the comparison of planning time. The approach method used is a qualitative technique that involves collecting field data that will be used as information for the research topic. The researcher uses the CPM and PERT methods as a tool in projects related to a management in planning and control in the project. The CPM and PERT methods are used to figure out the duration of the project required and also identify the types of critical work in the project. Based on the analysis conducted, the CPM method only requires 100 days and the PERT method 100.48 days. Using the CPM method produces a time efficiency of up to 20 days compared to the PERT method of only 19.52 days. From the results obtained, the critical path of the two methods is A, B, C, D, and also the non-critical path is E, the duration is faster than the previous plan schedule which is 120 days.

Abstract:
Abstract Residential construction projects can have many risks and uncertainties that can affect their completion time. To ensure a residential construction project is completed on time, accurate duration estimates are required for each activity. The deterministic duration Critical Path Method (CPM) is extensively used in construction project scheduling. However, this method may not always yield a realistic schedule as it uses only one duration estimation for each activity. As an alternative, this study uses the Program Evaluation and Review Technique (PERT) which utilizes three duration estimates, and the Monte Carlo Simulation (MCS) which simulates the duration 5000 times. A house construction project with 24 activities was analyzed using CPM which yielded 63 days completion time. The project was then analyzed using PERT and MCS. PERT and MCS calculations found that to complete the project with a 95% level of confidence the project needed 70 and 79 days, respectively. The findings of this study indicate that PERT and MCS can assist project managers in creating a more realistic project schedule by considering the risks and uncertainties inherent in a construction project.
