Abstract:
Energy-efficient information transmission may be relevant to biological sensory signal processing as well as to low-power electronic devices. We explore its consequences in two different regimes. In an “immediate” regime, we argue that the information rate should be maximized subject to a power constraint, and in an “exploratory” regime, the transmission rate per power cost should be maximized. In the absence of noise, discrete inputs are optimally encoded into Boltzmann distributed output symbols. In the exploratory regime, the partition function of this distribution is numerically equal to 1

We describe two protocols for efficient data transmission using a single passive bus. Different types of interactions are obtained enabling the deterministic transfer and teleportation of composite quantum systems for arbitrary subsystem dimension and for arbitrary numbers of subsystems. The subsystems may become entangled in the transmission in which case the protocols can serve generalized teleportation based information processing as well as storage and transmission functions. We explore the cases of two qubits and two qutrits in detail, obtaining a maximally entangling mapping of the compo

Key properties of discrete information channels are considered, including coding, modulation, decoding, and demodulation. A discrete transmission channel covers a variety of methods and devices designed to transmit discrete data from a sender to a recipient. The article also presents graphs of functional dependencies between the input and output data of a discrete system interface, both in the absence of interference and in its presence. The steady-state level of a given mRNA is determined by its rates of transcription and degradation. The stabilities of chloroplast mRNAs vary during plant development, in part regulating gene expression. Furthermore, the fitness of the organelle depends on its ability to destroy non-functional transcripts. In addition, there is a resurgent interest by the biotechnology community in chloroplast transformation due to the public concerns over pollen transmission of introduced traits or foreign proteins. Therefore, studies into basic gene expression mechanisms in the chloroplast will open the door
