Abstract:
Purpose. This study aimed to compare stress levels among Jouf University students from medical and non-medical colleges. Methods. A cross-sectional study design was used to conduct this study on 120 students of both genders from two colleges: the College of Applied Medical Sciences and the College of Arts and Sciences. The researcher randomly selected the College of Applied Medical Sciences as an example of a clinical academic study and the College of Arts and Sciences as an example of a theoretical study. The inclusion criteria were male and female students who were free from any psychological or physical disorders, voluntarily agreed to participate in the study, and regularly followed their academic study plan from both colleges at Jouf University, Qurrayat Branch. The selected colleges enabled researchers to achieve the study aim by comparing stress levels between students from two different academic disciplines: clinical and theoretical. Results. Among the 120 participants, the number of male students was higher than that of female students. Most participants were living with their families. The majority of students in the first study group (College of Applied Medical Sciences) exhibited high stress levels compared to about half of the students in the second study group (College of Arts and Sciences). Based on stress level values, it was found that stress was not linked to any sociodemographic factors. However, its level was high among students living with their families and those with a medium financial status. Conclusion. The findings showed a difference in stress levels between students from the College of Applied Medical Sciences and the College of Arts and Sciences. There was also a relationship between students’ stress levels and their demographic variables.

Abstract:
This paper explores the relationship between admission criteria and college major selection among 1,595 undergraduate students at King Saud bin Abdulaziz University for Health Sciences (KSAUHS) in Saudi Arabia. The study examines how the admission criteria—high school GPA, General Aptitude Test (GAT), Scholastic Achievement Admission Test (SAAT), and corrected percentage—differ across various health science colleges, including the College of Medicine, College of Pharmacy, College of Dentistry, and College of Applied Medical Sciences. The results reveal significant differences in admission criteria across the different colleges, and these criteria were shown to be related to the college major that students ultimately chose. The paper concludes by emphasizing the importance of a well-designed and comprehensive student admission process in higher education and calls for further research in this area.

Hill, Anthony Gemart. "Predictors of Adult Community College Students' Intent to Transfer From the Community College with the Associate in Science, Associate in Applied Science, or Associate in Arts Degree to a Public University in Florida." Scholar Commons, 2016. http://scholarcommons.usf.edu/etd/6253.

Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to examine the predictors and pre-transfer navigation experiences of community college students enrolled in Associate of Arts (AA), Associate in Science (AS), or Associate in Applied Science (AAS) degrees with transfer intent to Florida’s public universities. The population included adult students aged 26 and above enrolled in Florida state/community college AA, AS, or AAS programs. One hundred and seventy-five students from two community colleges participated in this study with a response rate of 10%. The valid data set included 101 respondents, AA (n =17), AS (n =76), AAS (n =4), other (n = 4), and missing degree (n = 1). There were more females (n = 75, 74.3%) than males (n = 26, 25.7%) who participated in this study. The students had a mean age of 34.09 years. Most respondents (total = 89.6%) reported having an intent to transfer to a 4-year public or private university. Data were collected using the STEM Student Success Literacy Survey (SSLS), a 63-item questionnaire launched and administered via Qualtrics. The purpose of the instrument was to measure Community College Students Self-Efficacy, Social Capital, and Transfer Knowledge. The SSLS was adapted to a 66-item questionnaire to include new items regarding transfer experiences, navigation experiences, and intent to transfer. Results indicated that adult students enrolled in non-transfer degree programs had intent to transfer to a four-year college. Significant relationships were found for four predictors (research 4-year college, visit transfer center, highest degree, college chemistry) of 240 variables in combination to predict the discrete outcome of intent to transfer (yes vs. no). Implications included /AS/AAS students had intent even though the degree itself does not indicate intent; therefore, community/state colleges should treat this population with intent and advisors, policy makers, and administrators need to ensure that the correct information is readily available to those intending to transfer to Florida’s public universities.

Abstract:

The purpose of this study was to determine the presence (or absence) of barriers that hindered the ability of veteran student populations in completing degrees in the applied sciences field. Furthermore, in this study, the researcher sought to identify and to understand any detected barriers. The researcher examined the academic performances of veterans and non-veterans in the environmental science program at a Missouri community college. This study focused on collecting supplemental sources and gathering additional research on veterans pursuing applied science degrees. The researcher analyzed quantitative metrics and qualitative data, as well as compared personal responses from students to determine the leading perceived barriers and, conversely, the strategies most commonly employed to assist veterans in completion of the degree program. Additionally, the researcher compared academic performances of veteran and non-veteran students across multiple categories. The data indicated veteran students performed as well as non-veteran students, overall. However, some factors, such as educational background and military occupational specialties, had a favorable effect on veteran student retention and achievement rates. Based on the data presented, the researcher recommended a future longitudinal study investigating veteran resource center services and the academic performances of the veteran students who utilized them. Findings from such a study would provide valuable information regarding the effectiveness of the veteran resource centers and their ability to help veteran students transition to higher education.

Morgenstern, Patricia K. "Implementation of Wireless LAN in a University Environment: The Western Michigan University Haworth College of Business Case Study." NSUWorks, 2004. http://nsuworks.nova.edu/gscis_etd/736.

Full text
Abstract:
The purpose of this researcher in this study was to investigate how a post-secondary educational institution can effectively integrate a Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) into the teaching and learning environment. This dissertation investigation featured guidelines for planning, analyzing, designing, integrating, and supporting a WLAN at the Haworth College of Business (COB) at Western Michigan University (WMU), located in Kalamazoo, Michigan. The method of inquiry used to describe the Haworth COB wireless initiative was the case study, with embedded units of analysis. This investigator explored and identified wireless technology solutions for meeting Haworth COB's curricular needs. The curricular needs were identified through surveys completed by administrators, faculty, staff, and students. In addition, interviews with key network personnel were conducted to identify capabilities and limitations of the wireless network solution. Findings indicated usage of the wireless network enhanced faculty and student communication, increased accessibility to resources, and increased productivity. Further, findings indicated improved classroom and lecture hall instruction and increased collaborative learning experiences as a result of accessibility to wireless applications. Further, this investigator developed a model for implementing a WLAN for curricular enhancement and enrichment at the Haworth COB. The Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC) model provided the theoretical framework for a systematic and structured approach for describing the WLAN solution. The model can contribute to the advancement of research in the study of wireless utilization in the post-secondary environment.

Kim, Hyung Hoon. "The influence of entrepreneurial activities on teaching at Universities in the United States." Thesis, Georgia Institute of Technology, 2008. http://hdl.handle.net/1853/24821.

Full text
Abstract:
This study is to investigate the influence of entrepreneurial activities on teaching at universities. Specifically, the study focuses on entrepreneurial activities' effect on professors' time allocation. The dataset analyzed was constructed from the survey conducted by University of Illinois at Chicago in 1998. The sample was drawn from American academic professional associations' members of the four fields: experimental biology, physics, mathematics, and sociology. Based on the data of 133 professors, the study shows that professors with paid consulting work tend to spend less time in teaching when research activities are controlled. Insignificant are the other variables about entrepreneurial activities: patent application, industry funding, and research collaboration with industry. Also, more research time is likely to result in less teaching time. Insignificant are the other research-related variables: research funding at large and collaborative research in general. In terms of personal and institutional conditions, assistant professors tend to invest more time in teaching than senior professors, but they are likely to reduce more time on teaching than their senior counterparts for increasing research time. Finally, biology and sociology professors tend to allocate less time to teaching than physics and mathematics professors. In a word, entrepreneurial activities and research tend to conflict with teaching at the level of individual professors' time allocation.

Introduction: During 2017, approximately 750,000 strokes occurred, of those approximately 140,000 people died from a stroke and <10% were also diagnosed with a hospital acquired condition. The economic burden associated with stroke care exceeds $34 billion; and hospitalizations with a hospital acquired condition increase costs. In the United States, differences in health outcomes have been documented; however, these studies show that sociodemographic differences continue to exist. The objectives of this study are to assess differences in clinical outcomes among the study population, and to assess if there are differences hospital charges.

Methods: To investigate differences in outcomes and hospital charges among the study population, the 2001-2011 Healthcare Cost and Utilization Project (HCUP) Nationwide Inpatient Sample (NIS) database was used. Hospitalizations that occurred with a primary diagnosis of an ischemic stroke and a subsequent diagnosis of a hospital acquired condition were queried using ICD-9 codes. Additionally, the Elixhauser comorbidity index was used to identify comorbid conditions among individuals hospitalized. To assess the differences in outcomes and hospital charges chi-square, logistic regression, and hierarchical multilevel modeling procedures were used. All statistical analyses were performed using SAS 9.4.

Results: The overall death rate has decreased among the study population; however, racial/ethnic differences exist in patient outcomes. When assessing hospital charges, hospitalizations that occurred in the Southern region of the United States were higher than hospitalizations that occurred in the Northwest region of the United States.

Conclusion: Further analysis needs to be conducted to assess sociodemographic differences in clinical outcomes among the study population. There is a need to continue to identify sociodemographic groups with risks of mortality to better guide the funding opportunities to target these resources to populations that experience the worse health outcomes. Future studies should also assess the role of mental health, cultural competency, and care coordination to improve patient outcomes.

Huang, Hayden. "Cellular responses to mechanical stresses applied via magnetic manipulators." Thesis, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, 2001. http://hdl.handle.net/1721.1/8349.

Full text
Abstract:
Thesis (Ph.D.)--Harvard--Massachusetts Institute of Technology Division of Health Sciences and Technology, February 2002.
Includes bibliographical references (p. 99-103).
A mechanotransduction model aims to explain how a cell senses mechanical forces and translates them into molecular events, such as changes in intracellular ion concentrations, gene expression, post-translational protein modification, or cytoskeletal redistribution. Many studies of mechanotransduction explore the responses of cell populations to large and, occasionally, poorly characterized deformation. More recent techniques provide the means for characterizing the physical properties of the cell, with the potential for uniting the molecular responses with the material properties and deformation characteristics of the cell. These recent techniques have an additional advantage - they can be used to probe cells at the single cell level. Single cell studies have the potential to elucidate more precisely the specific mechanisms by which a cell senses and transmits signals, because the information gathered from each cell is not averaged over thousands or millions of cells. Over the past decade, several approaches to studying mechanical properties at the single cell level were developed. Atomic force microscopy, optical and magnetic tweezers, micropipette aspiration and other techniques have been used to explore and develop physical models of the cell. By using these techniques, the basic physical response of a cell to mechanical forces has been analyzed, yet the reported cell moduli in the literature, when taken in aggregate, span up to 6 orders of magnitude. It is not clear whether this wide distribution is due to the disparity in different cell types being examined, the methods being used to stress the cell, or the models used to analyze the responses.
(cont.) No study to date has addressed this variability, nor have many studies used the same physical model to test the variability of cellular mechanical properties across different cell types. To help clarify this broad variability in cellular mechanical properties, and to understand factors that may influence the responses of cells, two magnetic traps were designed to study the mechanical and molecular responses of different cell types. It was found that different cells may in fact have different mechanical properties, but the shear moduli are distributed over only one or two orders of magnitude, and not the five or six reported in the literature. Thus, the remaining variance in results is likely due to differences in modeling or technique. It is likely that differences in technique contribute substantially to the remaining variance, since molecular studies indicate that cellular responses are sensitive to environmental conditions such as temperature and to cellular conditions such as confluency.
by Hayden Huang.
Ph.D.

Abstract:
AbstractThis chapter provides an account of the journey taken by the College of Sciences and Health in Technological University Dublin over an eleven-year period, from 2010 to 2021, as it sought to address the challenges of gender inequality in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) disciplines. The start and end points for the journey are marked by the formation of the College and its eventual replacement following a reorganisation of the Higher Education landscape in Ireland and a structural reorganisation at University level. This chapter draws upon the authors’ collective experience of leadership within the managerial structures of the College and the University, and leadership on specific initiatives, to illustrate how consideration of gender equality and inequality featured within the journey taken by the College over this period of time. The chapter applies a broad lens to analyse the gender profile of the College’s people and practices, including its planning, its operational management, its leadership, its staff profile and its student cohorts over the eleven-year period. The chapter also focusses more narrowly on a set of specific initiatives undertaken within the College or across the University which impacted upon the College. Collectively, the two perspectives demonstrate how a STEM College evolved over an extended period of time, shaped by cultural changes and challenges and bolstered by initiatives that targeted the areas of greatest challenge. This eleven-year snapshot provides insight into a journey that has built momentum and has potential to continue into the future. The story communicated in this chapter will be of value to Higher Education leaders and practitioners that wish to learn from this experience and interpret the approach set out in this chapter for their own local context.

Abstract:
Abstract The COVID-19 pandemic has affected all sectors of life around the world, and educational systems are one of these sectors. The application of advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) has entered and influenced our lifestyle, directly or indirectly forming tomorrow’s future. It is impacting education in many different ways. It changes the way students learn and teachers teach, from personalized learning experiences to improving accessibility to education. The study tries to discover the role of artificial intelligence in developing the educational system in Iraqi universities. A descriptive study was used to determine the role of artificial intelligence techniques in developing the educational system in Iraqi universities. The study population consisted of faculty members in the colleges of Al-Nahrain University during the first semester of the academic year 2022–2023. To fulfill the study’s aim, the researcher used the survey method (structured questionnaire and interview) to collect data, and a random sample was chosen, consisting of 120 members of the teaching staff at the mentioned university. The results from the collected data show that the college members agreed to use AI techniques in developing the educational systems in Iraqi universities, and they are willing to adopt AI in their institutions. The research concludes by giving general recommendations for the future of education that all educational institutions need to apply AI technologies as an urgent need for our life and education.

Abstract:
Abstract In a technology-driven world where using artificial intelligence (AI) systems have dominated in all fields, educational institutions have become keen to embrace innovative tools and applications as a fundamental part of teaching-learning to promote learners’ skills and competencies. Automated writing feedback systems, which are AI-based tools, are being used excessively at universities to provide students with immediate and timely written feedback; hence, reviewing, analyzing, and synthesizing the methods and results of existing studies in this regard can be considered a crucial headway. Thus, the current study aimed at meta-analyzing the previous studies relatable to the usage of AI-based feedback systems to improve the academic writing skills of university students. Consequently, 35 studies published between 2015 and 2023 were analytically summarized and grouped based on the meta-analysis guidelines established by Cooper (Management Decision 36:493–502, 1998). The results revealed numerous benefits and some challenges of utilizing this technology. It was displayed, for example, that using AI-based feedback systems can significantly improve students’ academic writing skills, increase their engagement, promote self-regulation, trigger meta-cognitive writing skills, and provide personalized feedback that facilitates the learning process. Conversely, some challenges were highlighted, especially the overuse of such technologies that can lead to dependent and reliant learners, in addition to the failure of these systems to provide feedback on writings that necessitate higher-order thinking skills, meanwhile offering generic feedback that ignores individual differences. Accordingly, a model for the optimal use of such systems was suggested in the conclusions.

Abstract:
Abstract This study explores the influence of knowledge transfer activities on the institutional governance of higher education institutions, with a focus on the Austrian higher education sectors. Knowledge transfer, as part of the third mission of higher education, extends academic activities beyond traditional teaching and research, fostering connections with the broader community, industry, and society. This research investigates how these activities influence institutional governance. Utilising data from the Academic Profession in Knowledge-based Societies (APIKS) survey in Austria, the study examines the perceptions of academic staff across various sectors, including public and private universities, universities of applied sciences, and university colleges for teacher education. The study also highlights the diverse impact of knowledge transfer activities across different institutional contexts and the need for nuanced governance models that accommodate these variations. The findings challenge traditional assumptions about the direct influence of knowledge transfer on governance, suggesting a more complex interplay that is mediated by factors like institutional culture and governance structures. The research underscores the importance of re-evaluating theoretical frameworks and governance strategies to effectively integrate knowledge transfer activities, enhancing the adaptability and responsiveness of higher education institutions.

Abstract:
The U.S. Department of Labor awarded a $2.3 million grant to the University of Missouri-Columbia (MU) in 2006 in response to the need for well-trained Radiation Protection Technicians (RPTs). The RPT curriculum initiative resulted from significant collaborations facilitated by MU with community colleges, nuclear power plants, professional organizations, and other nuclear industry stakeholders. The objective of the DOL project is to help increase the pool of well-qualified RPTs to enter the nuclear workforce. Our work is designed to address the nuclear industry’s well-documented, increasingly significant need for RPTs. In response to this need, MU and AmerenUE’s Callaway Nuclear Power Plant first partnered with Linn State Technical College’s Advanced Technology Center (LSTC/ATC) to initiate a two-year RPT degree program. The success of this program (enrollments have been increasing over the past four years to a Fall 2007 enrollment of 23) enabled the successful proposal to the DOL to expand this program nationwide. DOL participants include the following partners: Linn State Technical College with AmerenUE – Callaway; Central Virginia Community College with AREVA; Estrella Mountain Community College with Arizona Public Service – Palo Verde; MiraCosta Community College with Southern California Edison – San Onofre; and Hill College with Texas Utilities – Comanche Peak. The new DOL grant has allowed redevelopment of the LSTC/ATC curriculum using a web-based, scenario driven format, benchmarked against industry training standards. This curriculum will be disseminated to all partners. Integral in this curriculum is a paid, three to four month internship at a nuclear facility. Two of the six new RPT courses have been developed as of the end of 2007. Four of five partner schools are accepting students into this new program starting in the winter 2008 term. We expect that these institutions will graduate 100 new RPTs per year to help alleviate the personnel shortage in this critical area of need.

Abstract:
Abstract While primarily established as teaching institutions, Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) now offer graduate degrees and conduct a significant amount of research. However, HBCUs are behind their non-HBCU counterparts in the process of commercializing their intellectual property, or introducing their innovations to the market where it can be sold to the intended end user. Our goal is to understand the interest and challenges that faculty at HBCUs face in the process of generating and commercializing intellectual property. Here, we present preliminary findings of a survey sent to faculty members in the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences at the University of the District of Columbia. Eleven faculty members responded to the survey, representing the departments of Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, and Computer Science and Information Technology. Seven (64%) respondents reported that they have developed intellectual property which they believe has commercial potential, however only three respondents (27%) have successfully commercialized their innovations. Respondents reported that the resources available to them for commercialization were either “missing” or “lacking”, and that they had low involvement with industry partners. These results show that HBCU faculty are generating intellectual property but feel stuck commercializing. Investing in the technology transfer offices of HBCUs will spark growth and improve the impact of these important institutions.

Abstract:
ABSTRACT Dishonest methods have been part of the educational process and are likely to be in the future. However, technological progress has undoubtedly created several preconditions for unfair methods. Over the years, many studies have been conducted, and some models have been validated to assess unethical methods that evaluate different approaches. The present study investigates whether and to what extent students studying in sports-oriented courses use such methods. A literature study was conducted to summarize current research on the topic and provide a basis for creating a questionnaire for the students of the National Sports Academy “Vassil Levski”. The survey included 89 participants (38 women and 51 men) in a full-time study. The questionnaire was distributed through the National Sports Academy “Vassil Levs-ki” (NSA) professors during the summer examination session. Participation in the survey was optional and only after the end of the student’s examination. The survey was conducted in May-June 2022. The questionnaire was analyzed using Cronbach’s, which showed high-reliability (= .82). Regarding the factors of gender and faculty, no statistically significant differences were found. 30.3% (n=27) of the students responded that they had used a dishonest method and the remaining 69.7% (n=62) declared that they had not used such methods. The most common method is that of using study materials (textbooks) or notes. The following preferred method is “help by a colleague”. A correlation was found for those students who used dishonest methods that they boasted to their colleagues r = .758 ( ≤ .001) and their relatives r = .711( ≤ .001). As a major conclusion, it can be inferred that despite the dishonest methods used by the students, it generally does not lead to their desired assessment and outcome. Using more components to form a student’s final examination grade, such as exam grades from evaluations, assignments, or tests, ensures a more realistic final examination grade in the respective subject.

Abstract:
This study investigates the development of inclusive education and the social dynamics of inclusivity at SMK College of Applied Sciences and Vilnius Business College (VVK). With inclusivity becoming a critical aspect of modern education, this research explores students' perceptions, experiences, and perceived barriers to inclusivity within these institutions. A mixed-methods approach was employed, combining quantitative survey data with qualitative insights from open-ended responses. Findings indicate that familiarity with social inclusion, awareness of disability issues, and a supportive social environment contribute positively to students' perceptions of institutional inclusivity. However, personal experiences of bias, cultural isolation, and limited engagement with inclusive initiatives present notable barriers. The results underscore the need for comprehensive, multidimensional strategies that address both structural and social inclusivity, fostering an equitable and empathetic educational environment. These insights provide valuable guidance for policymakers and educators seeking to enhance inclusive practices in higher education institutions across Eastern Europe.

Abstract:
It is with great pleasure that we announce the release of the “Frost Byte” dataset. The dataset was collected during research on fault detection and diagnosis (FDD) approaches and their transferability to heterogeneous systems of industrial refrigeration systems at the Technical University of Applied Sciences Wildau. The data collection took place between 2018 and 2019 and is intended to supplement the ASHRAE 1043-RP dataset (Comstock & Braun, 1999), which has been the only publicly available data source in this area to date. For comparison purposes, the method of data collection was chosen similarly, whereby this dataset collection was carried out using a ~ 100 kW refrigeration capacity ammonia system with plate heat exchangers. The dataset contains steady-data equally sampled from five classes: 1. Normal (fault-free operating condition) 2. Reduced Condenser Water Flow 3. Reduced Evaporator Water Flow 4. Non-Condensable Gases 5. Refrigeration Leak Each class was investigated under changing operational conditions and varying fault severity levels (SL).

Abstract:
In an essay, the authors of the University of Wuppertal want to devote themselves to the theory and practical methodology of "exploring and researching social space" in the context of socially just urban planning and, in doing so, first present positions of historical and contemporary urban planning and architectural criticism (such as from the Charter of Athens (cf. source year), urban planning concepts by Robert Moses as well as by Jane Jacobs and Jan Gehl) and set them against each other against the background of the consideration of researching social space. Furthermore, the essay can present practical examples from the methodology of social space research as applied in the exam project of Leila Rudzki in the course of study "Public Interest Design" and reflect on them against the background of the previously named parameters of socially just urban development. In addition to the above-mentioned thesis, the text contribution is based on a 60-minute lecture by the authors on the same topic, which was presented at the Convention „Narrative of the social" on 29.05. to 02.06.23 at the IUC under the direction of Prof. Dr. Heinz Sünker (University Wuppertal, Germany) and Prof. Dr. Goran Gretić (University of Zagreb, Croatia). The lecture expanded the plenary of the Convention, which was largely dedicated to the thematic stand of the "social" from the perspective of epistemological and critical theory, to include a design and planning-conceptual perspective, disciplines that represent the essential reference sciences of the study programme "Public Interest Design".

Abstract:
The article reveals scientific approaches to substantiating and developing technology to form social information competence of future Iraqi journalists based on using a dynamic pedagogical site. After pre-interviewing students of the Journalism Faculty at Al-Imam Al-Kadhim University College for Islamic Sciences in Baghdad, the authors came to the conclusion there are issues on defining the essence of social information competences. It is established that the majority of respondents do not feel satisfied with the conditions for forming these competences in the education institutions. At the same time, there were also positive trends as most future journalists recognized the importance of these professional competences for their professional development and had a desire to attend additional courses, including distance learning ones. Subsequently, the authors focused on social information competence of future journalists, which is a key issue according to European requirements. The authors describe the essence of this competence as an integrative quality of personality, which characterizes an ability to select, transform information and allows to organize effective professional communication on the basis of the use of modern communicative technologies in the process of individual or team work. Based on the analysis of literary sources, its components are determined: motivational, cognitive, operational and personal. The researchers came to the conclusion that it is necessary to develop a technology for forming social information competence of future journalists based on the use of modern information technologies. The necessity of technology implementation through the preparatory, motivational, operational and diagnostic correction stages was substantiated and its model was developed. The authors found that the main means of technology implementation should be a dynamic pedagogical site, which, unlike static, allows to expand technical possibilities by using such applications as photo galleries, RSS modules, forums, etc. Technically, it can be created using Site builder. Further research will be aimed at improving the structure of the dynamic pedagogical site of the developed technology.

Abstract:
This publication based on a master thesis explores the challenges of the automotive industry regarding the European chemical regulations REACH and CLP, as well as potential improvements of the current compliance activities and the related incentives and barriers. It answers the research question: "To what extent should the compliance activities of actors in the automotive supply chain be extended in order to meet the requirements of European chemicals regulation; and where would it help to strengthen incentives in enforcement and the legal framework?“. The study’s structure is based on the transdisciplinary delta analysis of the Society for Institutional Analysis at the Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences. It compares the target state of the legal requirements and the requirements for corresponding compliance with the actual state of the actual compliance measures of the automotive players and attempts to identify their weak points (the delta). The main sources for the analysis are the legal texts and relevant court decisions as well as guideline-based expert interviews with automotive players based on Gläser & Laudel. As objects of the analysis, there are in addition answers to random enquiries according to Article 33 (2) REACH as well as the recommendations and guidelines of the industry associations. The analysis identifies the transmission of material information in the supply chain as a key problem. The global database system used for this purpose, the IMDS, shows gaps in the framework conditions. This results in compliance risk due to the dynamically developing regulation. In addition, the study identifies an incompliance of the investigated automobile manufacturers with regard to Art. 33 REACH. In answering the research question, the study recommends solutions to the automotive players that extend the current compliance activities. In addition, it offers tables and process flow diagrams, which structure the duties and required compliance measures and may serve as basic audit criteria. The analysis is carried out from an external perspective and looks at the entire industry. It therefore cannot cover all the individual peculiarities of each automotive player. As a result, the identified gaps serve only as indications for possible further compliance risks.
