Acute kidney injury induced by renal ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) compromises microvascular density and predisposes to chronic kidney disease (CKD) and sodium-dependent hypertension. VEGF-121 was administered to rats fed a standard (0.4%) sodium diet at various times following recovery from I/R injury for up to 35 days. VEGF-121 had no effect on the initial loss of renal function, as indicated by serum creatinine levels measured 24 h after injury. The research focused to detect and identify genetic polymorphisms in exon 7 of the β-casein CSN2 gene in blood samples from Greek Holstein cows. For this purpose, DNA was extracted from 120 blood samples of cows. The desired region of exon 7 was amplified by PCR, resulting in a 121 bp product. The PCR product was digested by restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP) method. The results suggest that the A1A2 genotype prevails over the others.  Methodology: This study was conducted to investigate the public health risks of Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus in milk sold in informal markets in Egypt. A total of 121 milk samples were analyzed for occurrence, virulence genes and antibiotic resistance of E. coli and S. aureus.

The outcome of 961 patients with vascular injuries received in the Afghanistan war is reported. Some 755 (78.6%) patients had to have a primary amputation while only 206 (20.9%) had restorative surgery. The vessels were simply ligated in 85 cases and reconstructive surgery was performed in 121. Ligation resulted in 46 (54%) cases of limb salvage and functional restoration; 30 (35%) went on to amputation and nine (11%) died. Microalgae are widely utilized in commercial industries. The addition of a modified artificial medium (soil extract) could enhance their growth. Soil extract collected from the Raja Musa peat swamp and mineral soil from the Ayer Hitam Forest Reserve (AHFR), Selangor, Malaysia, were treated using various extraction methods. Carteria radiosa PHG2-A01, Neochloris conjuncta, and Nephrochlamys subsolitaria were grown in microplates at 25 °C, light intensity 33.75 µmol photons m−2s−1 for 9 days. N. conjuncta dominated the growth in 121 °C twice extraction method AFHR samples, with 47.17% increment.

The fatty acid composition of the ripe seed oil of Nyctanthes arbor-tristis L. (Bengali: Seuli) were determined by GLC. The major constituent of the oil was found to be stearic acid, 39.06%. The relative percentages of other major fatty acids were found to be lauric acid, (4.46); linoleic acid, (7.89); oleic acid, (7.97). The yield of the seed oil was found to be 7.29% on extraction with pet-ether (b. p. 40°C - 60°C). The medical records of all 420 patients attending an outpatient clinic between June 1990 and June 1991 were retrospectively reviewed for causes of weight loss. Of the 121 (29%) patients who had lost weight, the majority had a clear contributing cause; opportunistic infections ( n = 57), psychosocial factors ( n = 20), drug related problems ( n = 9). Abstract Hooking rules designed to increase average turn volume by limiting the minimum volume yarded per turn were tested with a small skyline cable yarder. The test was conducted on a steep-slope Appalachian hardwood site, harvesting fuelwood from logging residue. Average volume per turn yarded increased from 10.0 to 12.3 ft3, increasing yarder production from 121 to 156 ft3 per hour, and reducing yarding cost from $22.74 per hundred ft3 to $17.75 per hundred ft3.
