While all three authors see the story in an allegorical vein, each one has their own focus and seems to wander away from the text proper and interpret it through the lens of their own set of ideas, be it philosophy, metaphysics, ethics, asceticism or mysticism. So Maharal of Prague sees the Haggadah as kind of philosophical and mystical treatise. H

Strain RS-16T required NaCl for growth, and grew between 1 % and 30 % (w/v) NaCl (optimum, 5–7.5 %), at temperatures of between 4 °C and 41 °C (optimum, 32–37 °C), and at pH values of between 5 and 10 (optimum, pH 7). Strain RS-16T was chemo-organotrophic and its metabolism was respiratory with oxygen and nitrate as terminal electron

Five novel Gram-reaction-negative aerobic marine bacterial strains with DNA G+C contents <50 mol% were isolated from the seagrass Posidonia oceanica. 16S rRNA sequence analysis indicated that they belonged to the genus Marinomonas. Major fatty acid compositions, comprising C10 : 0 3-OH, C16 : 0, C16 : 1ω7c and C18 : 1ω7c, supported the affiliation of these strains to the genus Marinomonas. Strains IVIA-Po-14bT, IVIA-Po-145T and IVIA-Po-155T were closely related to Marinomonas pontica 46-16T, according to phylogenetic analysis. However, DNA–DNA hybridization values <35 % among these strai

The first described report on the management of retained rectal foreign bodies dates back to the 16th century, and the first case reports of the modern era were published in 1919. The mean age at presentation is 44 years with a decidedly higher proportion of male patients.Mostly the foreign body found in rectum are inserted with an attempt to hide illegal objects or for sexual activities, and patients do not share complete and proper history with the treating doctor because of Embarrassment which complicates the m

These are finds from graves that were then on the territory of the commune districts of Split and Trogir. Finds are taken into consideration here that belong to remains of footwear, which so far in Croatia have not even been recognized as such, and which can be stratigraphically and typologically placed in the late Middle Ages (14th-15th cent.). AbstractA practical, easily manufactured multiport bicone antenna suitable for many receiving tasks such as direction finding systems can be made by using sharp-edged metal fins on the feeding coax center conductor to provide a tapered transition and connection path to coaxial probes. This construction resembles an arrow's tail. Already four mutually orthogonal fins can give full 360 degree azimuth coverage with suitable −3 dB port pattern overlap. Five experimental constructions working at Ku and Ka bands, each with fractional bandwidths of 23 to 31 per cent, are shown with full dimensional d

Emigration has long acted as a safety valve for the overpopulated island-fortress of Malta. Consequently, the Maltese diaspora has expanded to lands far beyond the island’s Mediterranean shores. Before Malta became an industrialised, economically viable and independent nation in the mid- 1960s, it could not sustain its high level of population, due to limited land space, a high birth rate and no natural resources. Its main assets were its people – their skills, ingenuity, willingness to work hard, and thriftiness – qualities which emigrants quickly put to good use on arrival in Australia and el

Lymphangiomas are most commonly described as a small painless mass in the neck or a vesicular rash in an infant patient. Ninety per cent of cases are diagnosed before the age of 2. Treatment usually involves surgical resection. Intra-abdominal lymphangiomas and mesenteric lymphangiomas, as described in our case report, represent a rare pathology. The exact prevalence of this condition is unclear but it has been suggested in the literature that there have been as few as 820 cases since the 16th century. The Hittite cuneiform texts (16th-12th cent. BCE) contain a number of detailed descriptions of borders of various countries and territories. Such fragments, mainly found in the international treaties as well as the annals of the kings, clearly reflect the particular formal interest on the part of the Hittite rulers in specific delimitation of political territories.
Although the Hittite listings of the topographical points, which make up a frontier can extend over many lines of texts, one never finds any use of cardinal directions which would indicate the position of these points. Instead

Abstract Recent high-resolution interferometric images of submillimetre galaxies (SMGs) reveal fascinatingly complex morphologies. This raises a number of questions: how does the relative orientation of a galaxy affect its observed submillimetre emission, and does this result in an ‘orientation bias’ in the selection and analysis of such galaxies in flux-limited cosmological surveys? We investigated these questions using the Simba cosmological simulation paired with the dust radiative transfer code Powderday. We selected eight simulated SMGs (S850 ≳ 2 mJy) at z = 2, and measured the variance o
