Parafia Świętych Apostołów Piotra i Pawła w Spring Valley, Ill., została założona 30 września 1891 r., a nowo wybudowany drewniany kościół został poświęcony 14 sierpnia 1892 r. W 1901 r. Polacy wybudowali szkołę i plebanię. 17 grudnia 1906 r. pożar doszczętnie zniszczył świątynię. Ocalała plebania i szkoła. – ks. Michał Peża, od 1900 r. – ks. Antoni Drewnicki, od 1903 r. – ks. Marcin Piechota, od 1908 r. – ks. Hieronim Błażyński i od 1909 r. – ks. Józef Cieśla.

Resumen
The work of Meigen 1800 was suppressed by the ICZN Commission in 1963 for the purposes of zoological nomenclature. The work as such is still to be treated as having been published and it remains available as a source of published descriptions and illustrations. Therefore, while the names in Meigen (1800) are deemed unavailable, a subsequent usage of any of the names may be considered a novel proposal. We review the first post-Meigen 1800 occurrence of each name, its first date of availability and authorship, and determine status and synonymy. Designations of type species are given for the following genus-group names: Coryneta Hendel, 1908 [Hybotidae]; Cyanea Hendel, 1908 [Hippoboscidae]. Acting as First Reviser, we select the following as the correct original spelling from multiple original spellings: Calirrhoe Hendel, 1908. Resumen
A review of the stick and leaf insects of Sulawesi, Peleng Island and the Sula islands is presented, along with complete checklists of species. The genera Hemiplasta Redtenbacher, 1908 and Nesiophasma Günther, 1934 are reviewed in detail and distinguishing keys to all known species are provided. Distinguishing keys are also provided to the Sulawesian species of Dimorphodes Westwood, 1859 and Nescicroa Karny, 1923. The latter genus is removed from synonymy with Paranecroscia Redtenbacher, 1908 and re-established as a valid genus (rev. stat.), with a new diagnosis and a preliminary list of species provided. As a result, 17 species are here transferred back to Nescicroa (rev. comb.). The genus Cylindomena Günther, 1935 is removed from synonymy with Parasipyloidea Redtenbacher, 1908 and re-established as a valid genus (rev. stat.). Consequently, the two species originally attributed to Cylindomena are re-transferred to the genus (rev. comb.). A new diagnosis along with a list of species is also given for the genus Myronides Stål, 1875, which is shown to be geographically restricted to Wallacea. Three new genera in Lonchodidae: Lonchodinae are described from Sulawesi. Gibbopromachus n. gen. is established only for the type-species Pericentrus tripinnatus Redtenbacher, 1908, a species restricted to mossy, mountainous habitats in North Sulawesi; consequently this species now becomes Gibbopromachus tripinnatus (Redtenbacher, 1908) n. comb.. The new genus Neomyronides n. gen. (Type-species: Pseudostheneboea aberrans emiri Hennemann, 1998) is established to comprise three species that have previously been misplaced in other genera. Paramanduria n. gen. is erected to comprise its type-species Neopromachus celebensis Günther, 1935 as well as Prisomera nodosum Günther, 1938; hence these two species change to Paramanduria celebensis (Günther, 1935) n. comb. and Paramanduria nodosum (Günther, 1938) n. comb.. Twenty-two new species are described, 14 from Sulawesi, one from the Togian islands, five from the island of Peleng and two from the island of Sanana. Sulawesi: Dimorphodes elegans n. sp. is decribed from the male and female, Hemiplasta flavifrons n. sp. from the male, Hemiplasta parva n. sp. from the male, Leprocaulinus digitatus n. sp. from the female, Leprocaulinus sulawesiense n. sp. from the male, female and egg, Mnesilochus bodiense n. sp. from the male, Mnesilochus luwuense n. sp. from the female, Myronides tomohonense n. sp. from the male and female, Necroscia malleoformia n. sp. from the male, Nescicroa splendida n. sp. from the male and female, Periphetes borealis n. sp. from the male, Ramulus extensus n. sp. from the male, Ramulus melanurus n. sp. from the male and Ramulus torajanus n. sp. from the male, female and egg. Togian Islands: Ramulus togianense n. sp. is described from both sexes and the eggs. Peleng: Myronides glaucus n. sp., Nesiophasma giganteum n. sp. and Ramulus pelengense n. sp. are described from both sexes and the eggs, Orthomeria limogesi n. sp. from the male and female and Pylaemenes pleurospinosus n. sp. from the female only. Sanana Island: Myronides pussulatus n. sp. and Nesiophasma sananaense n. sp. are described only from the female sex. Ten species are synonymised (n. syn.): Calvisia (Conocalvisia) octolineata Redtenbacher, 1908 and Calvisia (Conocalvisia) reductipennis Redtenbacher, 1908 synonymised with Calvisia (Conocalvisia) hippolyte (Westwood, 1859); Lonchodes reductus Brunner v. Wattenwyl, 1907 synonymised with Myronides cristulatus Brunner v. Wattenwyl, 1907; Necroscia albofasciata Redtenbacher, 1908 synonymised with Nescicroa smaragdula (Bates, 1865); Necroscia densegranulosa Redtenbacher, 1908 and Sipyloidea (Hemiplasta) falcata Redtenbacher, 1908 synonymised with Hemiplasta mustea (Bates, 1865) n. comb.; Paranecroscia frontalis (Redtenbacher, 1908) synonymised with Nescicroa viridilineata (Bates, 1865); Paranecroscia graminea (Bates, 1865: 356), here synonymised with Nescicroa smaragdula (Bates, 1865); Ramulus melanocephalus (Carl, 1913) synonymised with Ramulus supernumerarius (Brunner v. Wattenwyl, 1907); Sipyloidea felderi Redtenbacher, 1908 synonymised with Singaporoidea poeciloptera (Rehn, 1904) n. comb.. Six subspecies are raised (n. stat.) or re-transferred (rev. stat.) to species level: Dimorphodes celebensis Redtenbacher, 1908 rev. stat., Dimorphodes sarasini Redtenbacher, 1908 rev. stat., Hermagoras celebensis (Hennemann, 1998) n. stat., Leprocaulinus mammatus (Rehn, 1904) rev. stat., n. comb., Neomyronides emiri (Hennemann, 1998) n. comb., n. stat., Nescicroa rufescens (Hennemann, 1998) n. stat.. Hemiplasta rostrata (Redtenbacher, 1908) is removed from synonymy with Hemiplasta styligera (Bates, 1865) and Sipyloidea normalis Redtenbacher, 1908) is removed from synonymy with Sipyloidea poeciloptera Rehn, 1904; both are re-established as a valid species (rev. stat.). 37 species are transferred to other genera (n. comb.): Asceles morio (Redtenbacher, 1908), Asceles roseonotata (Redtenbacher, 1908), Dimorphodes epidicus (Günther, 1935), Gibbopromachus tripinnatus (Redtenbacher, 1908), Hemiplasta mustea (Bates, 1865), Hemiplasta nigra (Hennemann, 1998), Leprocaulinus heinrichi (Günther, 1935), Leprocaulinus kaupii (Stål, 1875), Leprocaulinus mammatus (Rehn, 1904), Lopaphus ashmeadi (Rehn, 1904), Lopaphus baucis (Westwood, 1859), Lopaphus elegans (Brunner v. Wattenwyl, 1907), Lopaphus magnificus (Brunner v. Resumen
Despite a growing literature on peasant movements in the early 20th century, the story of the peasant rebellions of the Caspian region at the time of the Iranian Constitutional Revolution of 1906–11 has been little studied.1 A close look at three sets of materials—the newspapers of the Constitutional Revolution, among them Majlis (1906–1908), Anjuman (1906–1909), Habl al-Matīn (1907–1909), and Sūr-i Isrāfīl (1907–8); British diplomatic reports; and several regional studies and memoirs of the period—reveal that, during the First Constitutional Period of 1906–1908, a number of strikes and sit-ins were carried out by the peasants, often with the support of craftsmen and workers, who had initiated trade union activity. Such revolts were considerably more sustained and prominent in the northern areas of Gilan and Azerbayjan, which were directly influenced by the flow of radical ideas from the Russian Caucasus; they also benefited from a long history of social struggle among the craftsmen and small shopkeepers (pīshahvarāns), who maintained their guilds, and a tradition of alliances among the craftsmen, the urban poor, and the poor peasants.2

Resumen
This study provides a comprehensive overview of the genus Zygota Förster combining DNA barcoding and current morphology. Nineteen species of Zygota were found throughout Germany, including the newly described species Zygota wallisp. nov. First species records for Germany are: Zygota balteata Macek, 1997; Z. comitans Macek, 1997; Z. spinosipes (Kieffer, 1908); Z. sordida Macek, 1997; Z. angularis Macek, 1997 and Z. vigil Nixon, 1957. We also clarify diagnoses for the two related genera, Pantoclis Förster and Zygota to designate the boundaries of the Zygota genus and propose new synonymies: Zygota caligula Buhl, 1997 is a junior synonym of Z. congener (Zetterstedt, 1840); Z. reticulata Kozlov, 1978 is a junior synonym of Z. ruficornis (Curtis, 1831). Thirteen species of Zygota sensu Nixon (1957) are transferred to the genus Pantoclis with the following new combinations proposed: Zygota brevinervis (Kieffer, 1908) (= Pantoclis brevinervis (Kieffer, 1909), comb. nov.); Z. brevipennis (Kieffer, 1908) (= P. brevipennis (Kieffer, 1908), comb. nov.); Z. caecutiens (Kieffer, 1908) (= P. caecutiens (Kieffer, 1908), comb. nov.); Z. cursor (Kieffer, 1908) (= P. cursor (Kieffer, 1908), comb. nov.); Z. fossulata (Thomson, 1858) (=P. fossulata (Thomson, 1858), comb. nov.); Z. fuscata (Thomson, 1858) (= P. fuscata (Thomson, 1858), comb. nov.); Z. hemiptera (Thomson, 1858) (= P. hemiptera (Thomson, 1858), comb. nov.); Z. microtoma (Kieffer, 1909) (= P. microtoma (Kieffer, 1909), comb. nov.); Z. soluta (Kieffer, 1907) (= P. soluta (Kieffer, 1907), comb. nov.); Z. striata (Kieffer, 1909) (= P. striata (Kieffer, 1909), comb. nov.); Z. subaptera (Thomson, 1858) (= P. subaptera (Thomson, 1858), comb. nov.); Z. sulciventris (Kieffer, 1909) (= P. sulciventris (Kieffer, 1909), comb. nov.), and Z. unicolor (Kieffer, 1908) (= P. unicolor (Kieffer, 1908), comb. nov.).

Resumen
ZusammenfassungAm 14.

The article is devoted to the second stage of architectural and design activity of Hector (Hector) Guimar (1867–1942), during which his unique style was finally formed. During the period from 1900 to 1912, following the traditions of «total design», the architect was engaged not only in the design of residential and public buildings, but also in the decorative design of their facades and interiors, furniture, tableware, elements of technical equipment. He compiled a catalog of metal decorative elements for their serial production, published a set of advertising cards of his best works. The most well-known architectural designs are made in Guimard’s style, such as the house Jassede at Versailles (1903), Hotel Deron-Levent (1907), Castel d’Orgeval (1904–1905), Villa Surprise (1903-1907), Hôtel Guimard (1909–1912), Hôtel Mez-zara (1910–1911).

Resumen
Opsiphanes Doubleday, [1849] (Lepidoptera: Nymphalidae: Satyrinae: Brassolini) is an exclusively Neotropical genus, occurring from Argentina to Mexico. Until the present study, Opsiphanes was considered to contain 14 species, 60 subspecies, and 38 synonyms. The considerable phenotypic variation of species and subspecies of the genus has affected the taxonomy of the group by causing the proliferation of several names that have been proposed to represent their diversity, taxa that have often not been adequately described and/or delimited. The present study analyzed information on the immature stages and morphology, with molecular data and distribution data, in order to provide revised taxonomic hypotheses for Opsiphanes species and subspecies. These analyses of approximately 5,500 specimens and all species known for the genus made it possible to define two groups: “cassiae” and “quiteria”. Resumen
The article is devoted to the development and correction of the village reform project, one of the least studied reforms of Pyotr A. Stolypin. Based on the documents of the Council of Ministers, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the State Duma of the Russian Empire, the author reconstructs the process of creating a draft law of the village reform and making amendments to it during 1905–08. It is shown that this bill was part of the complex Stolypin reforms of local self-government and was developed in compliance with the legislative acts of the tsarist government of 1903 and 1904, taking into account the views of the local committees of the Special Meeting on the Needs of the Agricultural Industry. There are several versions of the draft law: the initial one, which was discussed at the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Council of Ministers in 1905–06; the draft law for submission to the Second State Duma in 1907; the draft law revised in the Council for Local Economy Affairs which was submitted to the Third State Duma in 1908. The article considers the discussions in the executive bodies and at the congress of the United Nobility regarding the most important articles of the draft law on property qualification, women’s suffrage, and inclusion in the village regulatory body without elections.

Resumen
1. Salary scales have been widely used in actuarial literature about pension schemes, but they do not seem to have been developed beyond the idea first introduced by Manly (1901) and used in a series of papers following this, including McGowan (1901), Manly (1902, 1903 and 1911), and M'Lauchlan (1908). King (1905), Bacon (1907) and M'Lauchlan (1914) discuss the construction of a salary scale from records of individual employees. King made some valuable observations on how a salary scale may change with time if the observed population is not a stationary one, for example, because the firm is growing or declining, which Bacon also commented on, and M'Lauchlan went into considerable detail about the separation of different grades. Thomas (1913) gave an example of an organization with six ranks, within each of which there was a salary scale, and showed explicit probabilities of promotion in each year of age. His development comes closest to what I shall discuss below. Text books on Life Contingencies, such as Jordan (1952), Hooker & Longley-Cook (1957) and most recently Neill (1977), have followed essentially the definition introduced by Manly, as also have papers and text books on pension funds, such as Porteous (1936), Marples (1948), Heywood & Marples (1950), Crabbe & Poyser (1953) and Lee (1973). Curiously Spurgeon (1922) does not mention salary scales, although his book was written after they had come into use.

Resumen
AbstractEstablishing the correct order of trichotomies in Peirce’s projected ten-division typology of 1908 has been a preoccupation of Peirce scholars since at least 1945. Most seem to assume that the same phenomenological framework was adopted by Peirce in all his classification systems from 1903 to 1908 and that these ten divisions form a homogeneous set. The paper examines the status of typologies in Peirce’s semiotics and, by comparing two hexads of divisions from 1904 and 1908, shows how the theoretical framework of each was based upon entirely different principles.

Resumen
In his late historical and autobiographical writings Ernest Jones claims that he first heard of Freud in 1903, then learnt German and was practising psychoanalysis by 1906. Observing Jones's intellectual development from his treatment of Tom Ellen in early 1905 through to his ‘emigration’ to Canada in late September 1908, reveals flaws in Jones's chronology because his journey towards ‘Freudianism’ was far more complex than he or his biographers have allowed. Jones's contemporaneous publications suggest that his early psychological researches were informed by Pierre Janet and that he only discovered Freud during the Amsterdam Congress in September 1907. Thereafter Jones's knowledge of Freud was gleaned second-hand mainly through the writings of the ‘Boston’ and ‘Zurich’ Schools and his first attempts at psychoanalysis were through Jung's Word Association Tests which he only started using after he arrived in Canada. Revising Jones's autobiographical claims has implications for our understanding of Jones and for the early history of British psychoanalysis.

W swoich utworach dramatycznych ten znany twórca krakowski wykorzystywał motywy antyczne, historyczne, religijne, nawiązywał do tradycji romantycznej oraz do teorii teatru R. Wagnera i M. Maeterlincka.

Edmund Anscombe is reputed to have begun his architectural career in Dunedin with the success of the University of Otago School of Mines competition, after spending five years in America (1902-1906) studying architecture. His early career is characterised by consistent success in architectural competitions over a short period of time. He won competitions for the University of Otago School of Mines (1908), the Young Men's Christian Association Building (1909), the Hanover Street Baptist Church (1910), and the Dunedin Girls' High School (1909) - where he won first and second place. This competition work chronologically culminates in an unsuccessful entry in the 1911 competition for a new New Zealand Parliament, which was won by John Campbell and Claude Paton.

Resumen
The article is devoted to the personal and creative connections between Ivan Bunin and the forgotten writer Stepan Semenovich Kondurushkin (1874-1919). Known cases of communication between writers are described in detail: correspondence, meetings, as well as their reviews of each other’s work. From 1898 to 1903 Kondurushkin worked as a teacher in the Middle East at the invitation of the Imperial Orthodox Palestinian Society. In 1901-1902 Kondurushkin began to write the first journalistic and literary texts about the East. Bunin traveled to the East in 1903, 1907, 1910-1911 and 1913, to publish the first sketches of the future book Temple of the Sun - since 1908. Both authors carefully read each other’s works. The article compares the two-volume collection of stories by Kondurushkin Syrian Stories (1908-1910) and Bunin’s Temple of the Sun (1917). Both authors speak about the East in the words of sacred texts and model a certain mythological space, where they are not just observers, but also participants in the process - they experience the myth together with the acting heroes, and are also endowed with the ability to act within the myth. In addition, both authors are characterized by the exploitation of the metaphor ‘East is the grave’, in which the problem of ‘time’ as a category is leveled and reduced solely to understanding everything in the category of ‘space’. The history of the East after the time of myth does not exist for the writers, and therefore the East is ‘buried’ under the slabs of sacred texts. Special attention is paid to the representation of the image of Moses.

W latach 1907–1926 kolejnymi prezesami kółka rolniczego byli: Kazimierz Czarnowski (1907–1908), ks. Stanisław Mirecki (1908–1911), Franciszek Paczkowski (1911–1914), Hoppe (1914–1920), Jan Wróblewski (1920–1922), Adam Nencki (1923–1925), Stanisław Leopold (1925) i Michał Zabłocki (od 1926). Rad prikazuje razvoj Hrvatskoga katoličkog pokreta do rujna 1909., s posebnim naglaskom na katoličke sastanke u Splitu u kolovozu 1908. i 1909. godine. U Splitu su u kolovozu 1908. održana tri sastanka: đački (pitanja Hrvatskoga katoličkog pokreta), katehetski (stanje školstva u Dalmaciji) i katehetski tečaj (metode poučavanja u teoriji i praksi). - 1918.).

Resumen
SUMMARYSera from people born between 1883 and 1930 and collected in 1977 were tested for the presence of HI antibodies to A/FM/1/47 (H1N1) virus and three recently (1977 and 1978) isolated influenza A-H1N1 viruses. The highest frequency of high-titred antibody to the four H1N1 viruses was detected in sera from people born in 1903–4, i.e. 42,54,38, and 22% had antibody against A/FM/1/47, A/Hong Kong/117/77, A/Brazil/11/78, and A/Fukushima/103/78 respectively. The birthdate groups 1896–1907 showed a higher percentage of HI antibody titres ≥18, ≥50, ≥100 or ≥1600 against the four H1N1 viruses than the birthdate groups 1907–30. This indicates the existence of an era, 1908–18, in which, apart from the H3N2 virus (1900–18), the H1N1 virus was epidemic among the human population.

Resumen
In the main table of contents that “Junimea literară” (Chernivtsi, the first series, 1904–1914) publishes in the first years, there is a section entitled “Folcloristică” (1905), then “Folclor” (1906) and “Folklor” (1907), where there are mentioned well-known names at the time: Sim. Fl. Marian, Dimitrie Dan, I. G. Sbiera, Elena Niculiță-Voronca, Artur Gorovei, but also many unknown people in this field of folklore. Since 1908, this section hadn’t been in the contents anymore and the explanation for giving it up is, undoubtedly, related to the premature loss of Sim. Fl. Marian, the editorial board of the magazine thus recognizing that he was the only one who, by his own signature and valuable folklore materials, actually gave meaning to this section. Changing its entitlings through numerous and valuable published writings that it comprised, the section offered its readers (between 1904 and 1907) an appropriate image about the folkloristic activity of the time in Bukovina. In 1903, in Chernivtsi appears the volume Datinile și credințele poporului român adunate și așezate în ordine mitologică written by Elena Niculiță-Voronca. Surprinsingly, there is almost nothing written about it in the pages of “Junimea literară”. It is only at the beginning of 1905 that it is mentioned, in fact, as a literature volume for youth, Zece povești scoase din cartea Datinile și credințele poporului român in the author’s publishing house (Mihalcea, Chernivtsi, 1905, p. 75). The distinguished folklorist is worth being recognized rather for continuing writing didactic literature for youth. What are the possible explanations for this ignorance/misunderstanding in her native town, in Chernivtsi, of the editorial appearance of an author considered “one of the most important leaders and most prolific authors when speaking about folklore?” Especially when the author desired to be awarded with an Academy prize? Her very writing in the only literary magazine of the moment in Bukovina is “discreet” in comparison with the above assessment. I also asked myself to what extend the press of the time (from Bukovina and from Romania too, in which Elena Niculiță-Voronca published more constantly) could clear up through possible articles about the book and on how the appearance of this monumental volume was received, or on the contrary, if by not by promoting the book she did not contribute to the unfortunate fate that until recently had followed the collection of the author from Bukovina.

Resumen
The paper explains changes which become necessary in water mite taxonomy after revision of material from museum collections and recent field work. Todothyas Cook, 1974, not Acerbitas Özdikmen, 2006, must replace the preoccupied genus name Thyas Koch, 1836; Acerbitas is ranked as a subgenus of Todothyas. The following synonyms are established: Family Hydryphantidae: Todothyas distincta (Tuzovskij, 2007) = Todothyas colligera (K.Viets, 1923); Todothyas incerta (Lundblad, 1941) = Todothyas barbigera (K.Viets, 1908); Georgella intermedia Walter, 1927 (G. dauphinensis nom. nov. K.O.Viets, 1987) = G. koenikei Maglio, 1906; Hydrobaderia Özkan, 1985 = Hydryphantes Koch, 1841; Hydrobaderia ilicaensis Özkan, 1985 = Hydryphantes crassipalpis Koenike, 1914; Hydryphantes algeriensis Walter, 1925 = H. dispar (Schaub, 1888); Hydryphantes bayeri nonundulatus K. Viets, 1919 = H. planus Thon, 1899; Hydryphantes intermedius Daday, 1901 = H. dispar (Schaub, 1888); Hydryphantes spinipes Walter, 1922 = H. ruber (Geer, 1787); Panisus clypeolatus (Maglio, 1909) = P. torrenticolus Piersig, 1898; Panisus sarasini Bader, 1981 = P. michaeli (Koenike, 1896); Protzia multipora Walter, 1922 = P. squamosa Walter, 1908; Protzia macrognatha Walter, 1944 = P. distincta Walter, 1922; Sindacoides Bader, 1992 = Panisopsis K.Viets, 1926; Sindacoides ticinensis Bader, 1992 = Panisopsis setipes (K.Viets, 1911); Thyasella mandibularis torrenticola Schwoerbel, 1958 = T. mandibularis Lundblad, 1924. Hydryphantes pyrenaicus E. Angelier 1985, published as a nomen nudum, refers to H. armentarius Gerecke, 1996. Family Anisitsiellidae: Bandakia bieberi Bader, 1994 = B. concreta Thor, 1913. Family Oxidae: Oxus koenikei Thor, 1899 = O. longisetus (Berlese, 1885). Family Sperchontidae: Mixosperchon K. Viets, 1926 = Hispidosperchon Thor, 1901; Charoelia Bader, 1988 = Sperchon Kramer, 1877; Charoelia schloethi Bader, 1985 = Sperchon mutilus Koenike, 1908; Sperchon sandozi Bader, 1988 = S. hispidus Koenike, 1895; Sperchon monstruosus Bader, 1957 = S. hibernicus Halbert, 1944; Sperchonopsis phreaticus Biesiadka,1975 = S. procera Láska, 1965 stat. nov. Family Torrenticolidae: Monatractides bicinctus (Láska, 1933), M. parvipalpis (Halbert 1944), M. robustus (Halbert 1944), T. (Monatractides) hibernica Conroy, 1984 = M. madritensis (K. Viets, 1930). Redescriptions are given for numerous further species, redefining diagnostic characters and geographical distributions. Todothyas colligera (K. Viets, 1923) and Wandesia propinqua Walter, 1947 are redefined and newly established as separate species. Parathyas primitiva Lundblad, 1935 is transferred to the genus Todothyas Cook, 1974. Sperchon vaginosus Thor, 1902 is re-established as a distinct species in the ’denticulatus-group’. Torrenticola laskai Di Sabatino spec. nov. is introduced as a new name for Mediterranean populations attributed by several authors to T. lativalvata K. Viets, 1952. Torrenticola amplexa minutivalvata Lundblad, 1956 is elevated to species rank.

Resumen
This issue of Science in Context is dedicated to the question of whether there was a “cinematographic turn” in the sciences around the beginning of the twentieth century. In 1895, the Lumière brothers presented their projection apparatus to the Parisian public for the first time. In 1897, the Scottish medical doctor John McIntyre filmed the movement of a frog's leg; in Vienna, in 1898, Ludwig Braun made film recordings of the contractions of a living dog's heart (cf. Cartwright 1992); in 1904, Lucien Bull filmed in slow motion a bullet entering a soap bubble. In 1907 and 1908, respectively, Max Seddig and Victor Henri recorded Brownian motion with the help of a cinematograph (Curtis 2005). In 1909, the Swiss Julius Ries was one of the first to film fertilization and cell division in sea urchins (Ries 1909). In that same year in Paris, Louise Chevroton and Frédéric Vlès used a film camera to observe cell division in the same object (Chevroton and Vlès 1909). As early as 1898, the Parisian surgeon Eugène-Louis Doyen began filming several of his operations, among them the spectacular separation of the Siamese twins Doodica and Radica (Bonah and Laukötter 2009). And in England, the scientist and zoologist Francis Martin Duncan produced an array of popular-scientific films for Charles Urban: “The unseen world: A series of microscopic studies” was presented to the public in the Alhambra Theatre in London for the first time in 1903 (see Gaycken in this issue).

Resumen
Based on two only lifetime publications, the paper examines the history of Yu. A. Sidorov`s (1887–1909) perception and discussion of ideas of the “mystical anarchism”. In the almanac Chrysopras (1906) Sidorov published two poems that were obviously influenced by the slogans of this movement. I study parallels between these debut poems and the texts of authors related to the movement, in particular, between the poem Dreamer, you sent a revelation to the world… and Georgy Chulkov's article On the confirmation of personality (1906). The study proves that a number of young writers (not only Yu. Sidorov, but also V. Grigoriev, E. Kazakov) were striving to declare their solidarity with slogans of the moment on the pages of the almanac Chrysopras, ideologically close to the Moscow Vesy. In the second lifetime publication, his review (Russkaya Mysl, 1, 1909) on the book of essays by Chulkov The Cover of Isis (1908), Sidorov showed new sharply critical and subverting attitude to the movement. I try to find the reason for Sidorov's new skeptical position to these principles and slogans. The paper showed it to be the poet’s disappointment with the results of the 1905–1907 revolution and his turn towards monarchist sentiments, with subsequent support of the ideology within symbolism that was promoted by the Moscow magazine Vesy. The author pays particular attention to the parallels between Sidorov's polemic attacks against Chulkov and similar invectives against him by the Vesy magazine collaborators (Zinaida Gippius, Andrey Bely, Boris Sadovskoy, etc.)

Resumen
Nationalist activity in India between the years 1909 and 1916 has generally received an inadequate treatment from historians. It seems, quite simply, that this period is not sensational enough and historical accounts tend to skip from the excitement of the Swadeshi movement, the ‘Moderate’—‘Extremist’ split, the so-called ‘Extremist’ movement in general, and the Morley—Minto reforms of 1909 only to stop at the emergence of the Home Rule leagues or, even more likely, the serious political emergence of Gandhi after 1917. For example, despite writing of ‘continuities’ from 1885 to 1947, even Sumit Sarkar sees the nationalist movement expanding ‘in a succession of waves and troughs, the obvious high-points being 1905–1908, 1919–1922, 1928–1934, 1942 and 1945–46.’ Effectively, he is saying that the years from 1908 to 1919 were characterized by a ‘trough’ or lull.

Resumen
Eliot Howard presented his theory of territory in the nine-part The British warblers published between 1907 and 1914. He is generally considered to have been unaware of significant earlier accounts of this theory, in particular by Altum and by Moffat in 1903 in The Irish naturalist. This periodical was perhaps little read outside Ireland, but Howard's wife came from Donegal, and his regular birdwatching there make early familiarity probable. In 1904, he began planning an ambitious work on warblers that would draw attention to supposed defects in the theory of sexual selection. Probably hastened by Selous highlighting sexual selection in The zoologist in 1906, part one of The British warblers in 1907 carried a forthright attack on Darwin's theory. Territory was first mentioned in part two in 1908, but without elaboration, after Selous in 1907 described the Ruff's territory on its assembly ground. In November 1910, in part five of The British warblers, after Selous that year had stressed territory on Eurasian Black Grouse leks, Howard's writing became more focused, and a “law of territory” was stated to be widespread in birds: males struggle, not for females, but for territory, and if won, a mate is won also. Many common features point to the crucial influence of Moffat's article on the theory proposed by Howard. His awareness of Moffat's work is further evidenced by a newspaper report found among his papers, about a Dublin lecture in January 1910 by R. M. Barrington, who stated that Moffat's theory was supported by Howard.
