Resumen
Abstract Stephomyia Tavares, 1916 comprises seven species, all Neotropical: S. clavata (Tavares, 1920); S. epeugeniae Gagné, 1994; S. espiralis Maia, 1993; S. mina Maia, 1993; S. rotundifoliorum Maia, 1993; S. tetralobae Maia, 1993; and S. eugeniae (Felt, 1913). In the present study, a cladistic analysis based upon adult, pupa, larva and gall morphological characters as well as host plant data is carried out in order to discuss the monophyly of the genus and the relationships among the known species. The Stephomyia monophyly was supported by eight synapomorphies: five homoplastic characters and three non-homoplastic characters. Analyzes showed S. clavata with great instability within the genus, probably due to lack of larva, pupa and female data, so S. clavata was deactivated in analyze. The topology found was (S. mina ((S. eugeniae + S. epeugeniae) (S. tetralobae (S. rotundifoliorum + S. espiralis)))).

Resumen
Twelve species of biting midges of the genus Atrichopogon reported by Kieffer (1912, 1916a,b, 1921, 1922) from Taiwan are redescribed, illustrated and/or interpreted. They are included in the subgenus Psilokempia Enderlein (A. myrmedon Kieffer, 1912) and in the subgenus Atrichopogon s. str. (A. argus Kieffer, 1916, A. flaviceps Kieffer, 1912, A. haemorrhoidalis Kieffer, 1921, A. insularis Kieffer, 1921, A. minimus Kieffer, 1916, A. pruinosus Kieffer, 1921 and A. ruber Kieffer, 1916). Five new synonyms are proposed for the following species: A. ruber Kieffer, 1916 (=A. formosanus Kieffer 1918), A. myrmedon Kieffer, 1922 (=A. quadrispinosus Remm, 1993; =A. pectinacaudalis Yu & Yan, 2006), A. insularis Kieffer, 1921 (=A. citrinipes Kieffer, 1922) and A. flaviceps Kieffer, 1912 (=A. mendax Kieffer, 1922, as var. of A. flaviceps). Atrichopogon crispantis Liu, Yan & Liu, 1996 is resurrected from synonymy with A. insularis Kieffer, 1921. Atrichopogon rufescens Kieffer, 1921 is recognized as a nomen dubium, while A. atriceps mentioned by Blech & Rohlfien (1987) is considered a nomen nudum. A key to the species described by Kieffer from Taiwan is provided.

Resumen
Felix Chayes's life and career, largely spent at the Geophysical Laboratory of the Carnegie Institution, Washington, DC, are described. His principal motivation was to improve the reliability of geological interpretation and decision-making through the use of quantitative techniques and the application of statistical methods: e.g., as discussed in his monograph Petrographic Modal Analysis (1956b). He attempted to raise the awareness of the geological community concerning the inherent problems connected with the interpretation of percentaged- and ratio-data, in both petrography and geochemistry, and to develop approaches to their solution (as discussed in his monograph Ratio Correlation, 1971a), although these were never wholly successful. From the mid-1960s onwards, he was deeply involved in the development and application of geochemical databases for igneous petrology (International Geological Correlation Programme—1GCP—Projects 163 and 239). From 1984 he was Chair of the International Union of Geological Sciences (IUGS) Subcommission on Electronic Databases for Petrology. Emphasis is placed on Chayes's early research as this established the motivation for his statistical approach to petrology.

Texto completo
Resumen
Examination of the holotype of Sipho gaini Lamy, 1910, attributed by recent authors to the genus Chlanidota (Buccinulidae), revealed that this species belongs to the genus Belaturricula and is a senior synonym of Belaturricula antarctica Dell, 1990. A redescription of the shell, anterior alimentary system, and radular morphology of Belaturricula gaini is provided. The genus Belaturricula is transferred to the family Conidae (sensu Taylor et al. 1993) on the basis of its radula, which is composed of hollow marginal teeth. The presence of a large shell, prominent operculum, acinous salivary glands, radular teeth with narrow bases in B. gaini, as well as the absence of buccal lips and rhyncodeal introvert, all indicate affinities with the conid subfamily Clathurellinae. Because the radula of Pontiothauma ergata Hedley (1916) is nearly indistinguishable from that of Belaturricula gaini, we reassign Hedley's species to the genus Belaturricula as Belaturricula ergata (Hedley, 1916).

Sparks, Cheryl Logan, Peter R. Walniuk y Theda Skocpol. "The Enactment of Mothers' Pensions: Civic Mobilization and Agenda Setting or Benefits of the Ballot?" American Political Science Review 89, n.º 3 (septiembre de 1995): 710–30. http://dx.doi.org/10.2307/2082986.

Texto completo
Resumen
In this Review in 1993, Skocpol, Howard, Lehmann, and Abend-Wein analyzed the rapid enactment of mothers'pension laws in the American states in the 1910s. They concluded that the widespread federations of women's voluntary groups exerted a powerful influence on these enactments even before most American women had the right to vote. Sparks and Walniuk challenge these conclusions, noting that all 10 equal-suffrage states are among the 29 that passed mothers' pensions before 1916, and presenting new measures of suffrage endorsement and suffrage pressures in regression analyses suggesting that women's votes—actual and potential—played a major role in leading some states to adopt mothers' pensions earlier than their normal patterns of legislative change would predict. In response, Skocpol defends the 1993 conclusions. She adduces that the aggregate pattern of enactment of mothers'pensions corresponds much more closely to endorsements by women's groups than to suffrage timing and puts forth reasons to doubt the validity and significance of Sparks and Walniuk's tests.

Resumen
The morphology of the different stages (larva, pupa, male, and female) of Rhyacophila fasciata kykladica Malicky & Sipahiler 1993 was examined as a basis for the description of the taxon. Morphological data were supplemented by molecular analysis of mitochondrial cytochrome C oxidase subunit I (mtCOI), which were compared with samples of the nominate subspecies Rhyacophila fasciata fasciata Hagen 1859, as well as with other new species in this group, Rhyacophila denticulata McLachlan 1879 and Rhyacophila sociata Navás 1916. Our results revealed genetic differences between all the taxa; therefore, a change of taxonomic status of R. fasciata kykladica to R. kykladica (stat. prom.) is proposed.

Resumen
The Noctuidae genus Mudaria Moore, 1893, as treated in this paper, comprises 20 species distributed in the Oriental region from India to Fiji, with its centre of diversity in the Sundaland. The biology of the genus is unusual, in that the larvae bore into the fruits or pods of plants in family Bombacaceae (Holloway 1989) and Sterculiaceae (Robinson et al. 2001). Larvae of M. cornifrons have been recorded in the pods of silk-cotton tree (Bombax), in pods of kapok (Ceiba pentandra), in durian fruits (Durio) (Roepke 1916, Holloway 1989, Tan & Tan 1991 [1992], Kuroko & Lewvanich 1993) and in Pterospermum fruit (Robinson et al. 2001). On Bombax mature larvae emerge from fallen pods and tunnel into the soil to pupate in an earthen cocoon lined with silk (Holloway, 1989). Adult emergence is timed to coincide with the flowering of the host.

A type species is designated for Phalacrinus Blackburn 1891 (P. australis Blackburn 1891). Six new species-group synonymies are established: Acylomus ergoti Casey 1890 (=Tinodemus grouvellei Guillebeau 1894, syn. nov.), Acylomus curvolineatus (Champion 1924) (=Tinodemus meridianus (Švec 1992), syn. nov.; Olibrus stuporatus Lyubarsky 1994, syn. nov.), Xanthocomus attenuatus (Casey, 1890) (=Xanthocomus concinnus (Casey, 1916), syn. nov.; Stilbus thoracicus Casey, 1916, syn. nov.; Stilbus quadrisetosus Casey, 1916, syn. nov.). One name, Olibrus sternalis Casey 1916, is resurrected from synonymy. Lectotypes are designated for 23 nominal species. One genus and two species are excluded from Phalacridae: Sternosternus Guillebeau 1894 (with its type and only species, S. grouvelleiGuillebeau 1894) and Parasemus parvopallidus Lea 1932, both of which belong in Hydrophilidae. All 34 resulting genera in the family Phalacridae are keyed, described, and illustrated. A phylogenetic hypothesis based on analysis of a matrix of 98 morphological characters was created using parsimony. Results of these analyses were not robust enough at deep levels to create a new subfamilial or tribal classification, but nine genus-groups have been hypothesized.

Some species of the subfamily Trochetinae Perrier, 1897 are very similar in the external morphology. In this paper we showed that characteristics of the reproductive system can be used as unmistakable features for the determination of the similar species. The atrium with its shape and extension of the cornua, as well as the shape and extension of the vasa deferentia and ovarian sacks, are very important features for the identification at the species level. We discussed similarity and differences between Dina stschegolewi (Lukin & Epshtein, 1960) and other yellow spoted Erpobdellids, i.e., D. orientalis Grosser et al. 2011, D. apathyi Gedroyć, 1916, D. pseudotrocheta Grosser & Eiseler, 2008), as well between Dina pseudotrocheta and Trocheta pseudodina Nesemann, 1990.The study of the reproductive system shows that the population from the Taunus Mt. assigned by Nesemann (1993) and Nesemann & Neubert (1999) to Trocheta bykowskii (syn. to T. cylindrica) clearly differs from T.cylindrica Örley, 1886. This population here is described as Trocheta taunensis n. sp.The taxonomic status of Trocheta intermedia Kutschera, 2010 is discussed. Morphological and anatomical studies of the type material show that Trocheta intermedia is a younger synonym of Dina punctata mauchi Nesemann, 1995.

Resumen
Twelve new species-group names in Lycaenidae are proposed to replace invalid ones due to primary or secondary homonymy: Arhopala ariana wanggu (for Arhopala ariana hainana Wang & Gu, 1997), Arhopala paraganesa felipa (for Arhopala paraganesa hayashii Schröder & Treadaway, 2002), Arhopala paraganesa insula (for Panchala paraganesa hainana Wang & Gu, 1997), Favonius leechina (for Thecla orientalis leechi Riley, 1939), Jamides cleodus sunadyl (for Lampides cleodus lydanus Fruhstorfer, 1916), Lycaena aditya charmesse (for Lycaena aditya churkini Charmeux & Desse, 2006), Lycaena alpherakii sergeii (for Thersamonia alpherakii zhdankoi Churkin, 2002), Megisba strongyle miskinigra (for Lycaena nigra Miskin, 1890), Plebejus (Agriades) glandon manitoba (for Plebeius aquilo var. lacustris Freeman, 1939), Plebejus (Albulina) orbitulus chaos (for Albulina tibetana D'Abrera, 1993), Plebejus (Vacciniina) fergana nikolaii (for Vacciniina fergana rubini Churkin, 2006), and Plebejus (Plebejides) pylaon tumultus (for Plebejus (Plebejides) pylaon forsteri Bálint, 1990). Nine oher junior secondary homonyms are discussed, but no new replacement names are proposed for them because they are no longer considered congeneric with their senior homonyms. Attention is called to three further junior primary homonyms in use which need to be referred to the International Commission on Zoological Nomenclature for a ruling under its plenary power.

Resumen
The phytophagous hoverfly genus Merodon Meigen, 1803 (Diptera, Syrphidae), which comprises more than 160 species distributed in Palaearctic and Afrotropical regions, can be differentiated into multiple groups of species that harbor high levels of hidden diversity. In this work, the serrulatus species group of Merodon is revised, providing an illustrated key to species, a detailed discussion on the taxonomic characters and a morphological diagnosis, including also the first data about the preimaginal morphology of this species group. The study includes characteristics of the 13 species of the M. serrulatus group, along with the available distributional data. Moreover, descriptions are provided for seven new species, namely M. defectus Vujić, Likov & Radenković sp. nov., M. disjunctus Vujić, Likov & Radenković sp. nov., M. medium Vujić, Likov & Radenković sp. nov., M. nigrocapillatus Vujić, Likov & Radenković sp. nov., M. nigropunctum Vujić, Likov & Radenković sp. nov., M. opacus Vujić, Likov & Radenković sp. nov., and M. trianguloculus Vujić, Likov & Radenković sp. nov. In addition, the taxa M. serrulatus (Wiedemann in Meigen, 1822), M. bequaerti Hurkmans, 1993, M. hirsutus Sack, 1913, M. kawamurae Matsumura, 1916, M. sacki (Paramonov, 1936) and M. sophron Hurkmans, 1993 are redefined and redescribed. Following a detailed study of the type material sourced from different entomological collections, the status of all available taxa related to M. serrulatus is revised and a new synonymy is proposed: M. tener Sack, 1913 syn. nov. (junior synonym of M. serrulatus). The identity of M. trizonus (Szilády, 1940) could not be assessed as the type specimens are lost. Thus, the name M. trizonus is considered as nomen dubium. The monophyly and composition of this species group are assessed through Maximum Parsimony and Maximum Likelihood analyses of the mitochondrial COI and nuclear 28S rRNA gene sequences.

Resumen
AbstractThis article offers a critical reading, from the perspective of gender studies, of films produced in the politically charged environment of the 1990s and 2000s by directors Tomris Giritlioğlu and Yeşim Ustaoğlu. Giritlioğlu’s Ms. Salkım’s Diamonds (Salkım Hanımın Taneleri, 1999) and Autumn Pain (Güz Sancısı, 2008) were based on Yılmaz Karakoyunlu’s novels Salkım Hanım’ın Taneleri (1990) and Güz Sancısı (1992), while Ustaoğlu’s Waiting for the Clouds (Bulutları Beklerken, 2004) was inspired by Yorgo Andreadis’ biography, Tamama (1993). The films claim artistic license in presenting individual stories, yet they embellish their representation through documentary footage about silenced historical traumas, depicting female subjects as the store of traumatic national memories, such as the exodus of Pontic Greeks in 1916, the anti-minority Wealth Tax of 1942, and the anti-Greek pogroms of 1955. Underscoring Julia Kristeva’s notion of the “feminine” as a crucial aspect of these films, this article traces two strategies used by the directors: (1) recording personal stories in order to complicate nationalist narratives and their appeal to essentialized identities, and (2) gendering trauma as female suffering inflicted by patriarchal authority. The article concludes that, regardless of their public positions to the contrary, the directors engage in feminist politics by questioning the relationship between women and the nation, by broaching issues of social justice, and by highlighting the hybridity of identities and plurality of cultures.

Resumen
We re-evaluate eleven fossils that have previously been assigned to the family Tortricidae, describe one additional fossil, and assess whether observable morphological features warrant confident assignment of these specimens to this family. We provide an overview of the age and origin of the fossils and comment on their contribution towards understanding the phylogeny of the Lepidoptera. Our results show that only one specimen, Antiquatortia histuroides Brown & Baixeras gen. and sp. nov., shows a character considered synapomorphic for the family. Six other fossils (Electresia zalesskii Kusnezov, 1941; Tortricidrosis inclusa Skalski, 1973; Tortricites skalskii Kozlov, 1988; Tortricibaltia diakonoffi Skalski, 1992; Polyvena horatis Poinar and Brown, 1993 and a trace fossil purported to be larval feeding damage of Retinia resinella (Linnaeus, 1758)) exhibit a combination of homoplastic characters typical of tortricid moths or characteristic feeding damage. An unnamed species doubtfully assigned to Olethreutinae by Skalski (1992), Spatalistiforma submerga Skalski, 1992, Tortricites florissantanus (Cockerell, 1907), Tortricites destructus (Cockerell, 1916) and Tortricites sadilenkoi Kozlov, 1988 do not show enough character evidence to be convincingly placed in Tortricidae. Therefore, we transfer the three latter species from the collective group Tortricites Kozlov, 1988, defined as an assemblage of fossil leafrollers that cannot be placed with certainty in known genera, to Paleolepidopterites Kozlov, new collective group, defined as a group of fossil lepidopterans whose assignment to a certain family is currently impossible.

Resumen
We have studied the development of long-range spatial interactions in children (age 5 – 14 years) with normal vision. In our field study involving 410 normal children we used a battery of contour-integration cards that were developed earlier to test amblyopic patients (Kovács, Polat, and Norcia, paper presented at ARVO 1996). Each card consisted of a closed chain of collinearly aligned Gabor patches (contour) and a background of randomly oriented and positioned Gabor patches (noise). Subjects were asked to identify the location of the contour, and also to trace the contour within each card. The value of P was varied across cards (1.1 > P > 0.65), where P is the ratio of noise spacing to contour spacing. It is assumed that long-range, orientation-specific facilitatory interactions connect collinear contour segments together for P < 1. The strength of long-range interactions is defined by the minimal value of P yielding contour segregation. Children in the 13 – 14 years age group were able to see most of the contours ( Pmin < 0.7), while 5 – 6-year-old children missed the contours in about half of the cards ( Pmin < 0.9). This result indicates a very late maturation of long-range spatial interactions. It is possible that the late formation of horizontal connections in superficial layers of the human primary visual cortex (Burkhalter et al, 1993 Journal of Neuroscience13 1916 – 1931) is the neural basis of our developmental finding.

Resumen
Background: Lifespan psychological and life course sociological perspectives indicate that individual development is shaped by social and historical circumstances. Increases in fluid cognitive performance over the last century are well documented and researchers have begun examining historical trends in personality and subjective well-being in old age. Relatively less is known about secular changes in other key components of psychosocial function among older adults. Objective: In the present study, we examined cohort differences in key components of psychosocial function, including subjective age, control beliefs, and perceived social integration, as indicated by loneliness and availability of very close others. Methods: We compared data obtained 20 years apart in the Berlin Aging Study (in 1990-1993) and the Berlin Aging Study II (in 2013-2014) and identified case-matched cohort groups based on age, gender, cohort-normed education, and marital or partner status (n = 153 in each cohort, mean age = 75 years). In follow-up analyses, we controlled for having lived in former East versus West Germany, physical diseases, cohort-normed household income, cognitive performance, and the presence of a religious affiliation. Results: Consistently across analyses, we found that, relative to the earlier-born BASE cohort (year of birth: mean = 1916; SD = 3.38 years; range = 1901-1922), participants in the BASE-II sample (year of birth: mean = 1939; SD = 3.22 years; range = 1925-1949) reported lower levels of external control beliefs (d = -1.01) and loneliness (d = -0.63). Cohorts did not differ in subjective age, availability of very close others, and internal control beliefs. Conclusion: Taken together, our findings suggest that some aspects of psychosocial function of older adults have improved across the two recent decades. We discuss the possible role of sociocultural factors that might have led to the observed set of cohort differences.

StichwörterColeoptera, Staphylinidae, Xantholininae, Othiini, Othius, Eastern Palaearctic, Taiwan, China, Japan, distribution, ecology, taxonomy, revision, new species, lectotype designation, new synonyms.Nomenklatorische Handlungenarisanus Shibata, 1973 (Othiellus), syn. n. of Othius punctatus Bernhauer, 1922 (nom. n. pro puncticeps Bernhauer, 1916)acutus Assing, 1999 (Othius), spec. n.aequabilis Assing, 1999 (Othius), spec. n.atavus Assing, 1999 (Othius), spec. n.bordonii Assing, 1999 (Othius), spec. n.chongquingensis Zheng, 1995 (Othius), syn. n. of Othius latus latus Sharp, 1874collapsus Assing, 1999 (Othius), spec. n.coniceps Assing, 1999 (Othius), spec. n.contumax Assing, 1999 (Othius), spec. n.discrepans Assing, 1999 (Othius), spec. n.excisus Assing, 1999 (Othius), spec. n.fibulifer Assing, 1999 (Othius), spec. n.hamatus Assing, 1999 (Othius), spec. n.lubricus Assing, 1999 (Othius), spec. n.medius Sharp, 1874 (Othius), Lectotypepraecisus Assing, 1999 (Othius), spec. n.reticulatus Assing, 1999 (Othius), spec. n.rosti Bernhauer, 1907 (Othius), Lectotyperufipennis Sharp, 1874 (Othius), Lectotypesculptipennis Assing, 1999 (Othius), spec. n.smetanai Assing, 1999 (Othius), spec. n.stötzneri Bernhauer, 1931 (Othius), Lectotype; syn. n. of Othius latus latus Sharp, 1874tuberipennis Assing, 1999 (Othius), spec. nov.ussuriensis Coiffait, 1974 (Othius), syn. n. of Othius rosti Bernhauer, 1907wrasei Assing, 1999 (Othius), spec. n.gansuensis Assing, 1999 (Othius latus), sspec. n.ozakii Ito, 1993 (Othius latus), syn. n. of Othius latus latus Sharp, 1874kusuii Ito, 1993 (Othius medius), syn. n. of Othius medius Sharp, 1874yakushimanus Ito, 1993 (Othius medius), syn. n. of Othius medius Sharp, 1874

Resumen
The limits of Lyrcus Walker (1842), Catolaccus Thomson (1878), Eurydinoteloides Girault (1913a), Trimeromicrus Gahan (1914), and Jaliscoa Bouček (1993) are re-evaluated and redefined to better reflect observed distribution of morphological features. Nine of 13 New World species of Catolaccus are transferred to other genera and photographs of the primary type specimens are given to assist future recognition. New features are provided to assist identification of the remaining four Nearctic species of Catolaccus and these are compared to European species, with the observation that C. kansensis (Girault 1917c) could be a junior synonym of C. crassiceps (Masi 1911). Trimeromicrus is removed from synonymy under Lyrcus for the single species T. maculatus Gahan (1914) rev. comb. Newly synonymized under Lyrcus is the Australasian genus Neocylus Bouček (1988) n. syn. Ten species are newly transferred to Lyrcus—L. nigraeneus (Girault 1915) n. comb. (from Neocylus), L. helice (Walker 1843) n. comb. and L. cyaneus (Girault 1911) n. comb. (from Catolaccus), and L. albiclavus (Girault 1917c) n. comb., L. capitis (Burks 1955) n. comb., L. chalcis (Burks 1955) n. comb., L. coeliodis (Ashmead 1896) n. comb., L. deuterus (Crawford 1911) n. comb., L. nigroaeneus (Ashmead 1894a) n. comb. and L. rosaecolis (Burks 1955) n. comb. (from Zatropis Crawford 1908). Catolaccus pallipes Ashmead (1894b) is newly transferred to Pteromalus Swederus (1795) as Pteromalus pallipes (Ashmead) n. comb. and Catolaccus fragariae Rohwer (1934) to Lariophagus Crawford (1909) as Lariophagus fragariae (Rohwer) n. comb. Nine species are newly transferred to Eurydinoteloides—E. tepicensis (Ashmead 1895) n. comb. (from Catolaccus), E. dymnus (Walker 1847) n. comb., E. hermeas (Walker 1847) n. comb., E. incerta (Ashmead 1893) n. comb., E. orontas (Walker 1847) n. comb., E. perdubia (Girault 1916) n. comb., E. platensis (De Santis in De Santis et al. 1979) n. comb. and E. timaea (Walker 1847) n. comb. (from Lyrcus), and E. eudubia (Özdikmen 2011) n. comb. (from Spintherus Thomson 1878). Four species are newly transferred to Jaliscoa—J. grandis (Burks 1954) n. comb. and J. hunteri (Crawford 1908) n. comb. (from Catolaccus), and J. townsendi (Crawford 1912) n. comb. and J. vulgaris (Ashmead 1894b) n. comb. (from Pteromalus). The species of Jaliscoa are revised to include J. nudipennis Bouček 1993, J. bouceki n. sp., J. hunteri and J. vulgaris. Re-established in synonymy under J. hunteri is J. townsendi n. comb. One new species of Pteromalus, P. grisselli n. sp., is described as an egg predator in the egg sacs of Dictyna coloradensi Chamberlin (Araneae: Dictynidae) and compared to Catolaccus species and other pteromalids that are predators of spider eggs. Lectotypes are designated for Pteromalus helice Walker (1843), Catolaccus pallipes Ashmead (1894b) and Catolaccus vulgaris Ashmead (1894b). Diagnoses are given to differentiate Catolaccus, Eurydinoteloides, Jaliscoa, Lyrcus and Trimeromicrus from each other, and more extensive descriptions given to help differentiate these genera from other Pteromalinae. Morphological features are illustrated through macrophotography and scanning electron photomicrography.

El poema aquí traducido: «The Ballad of the Black Fox Skin» (Service, 1993: pp. 18-22), data del año 1909.

SPIES, MARTIN y OLE A. SÆTHER. "Notes and recommendations on taxonomy and nomenclature of Chironomidae (Diptera)". Zootaxa 752, n.º 1 (3 de diciembre de 2004): 1. http://dx.doi.org/10.11646/zootaxa.752.1.1.

Resumen
Various issues in taxonomy and nomenclature of Diptera Chironomidae are discussed, in order to formalize and explain scientific names used in the Fauna Europaea database publications. General and specific remarks point out and exemplify the most common causes for erroneous data: insufficient consultation of the primary sources (literature and material), unjustified assumptions of type status, and uncritical handling of untested information. Recommendations are offered on how to avoid or solve such problems, and increase the stability and quality of the chironomid system. In addition to a number of changes affecting endings of species epithets, authorship, dates of publication, etc., the following acts and recognitions of nomenclature are proposed.Paramerina cingulata (Walker, 1856) remains valid in spite of being a junior homonym. Thienemannimyia geijskesi (Goetghebuer, 1934) by emendation replaces the incorrect original spelling "Ablasblesmyia Geijkesi". Diamesa starmachi Kownacki & Kownacka, 1970 is valid, D. starmachii is an incorrect (variant) original spelling. The new substitute name Cricotopus (Isocladius) maurii is proposed for C. (I.) polychaetus Hirvenoja, 1989, a junior secondary homonym of C. polychaetus (Kieffer, 1923). Dactylocladius longicalcar Kieffer sensu Thienemann (1926) = Eukiefferiella gracei (Edwards, 1929), a misidentification of Dactylocladius longicalcar Kieffer, 1911, is selected as the type species of Eukiefferiella Thienemann, 1926. Gymnometriocnemus and Pseudosmittia are available and valid from Edwards (1932). Limnophyes minimus (Meigen, 1818) is the valid name for Camptocladius foenisuga Potthast, 1914 syn. n. and C. hexatomus Potthast, 1914 syn. n. Metriocnemus cavicola Kieffer, 1921 is valid, M. "martinii" of Thienemann (1921) is a nomen nudum. Nanocladius dichromus (Kieffer, 1906) is the valid name for Chironomus bicolor Zetterstedt, 1838 (preoccupied by Waltl, 1837). Orthocladius (Eudactylocladius) almskari S ther, nom. nov., replaces the junior primary homonym O. (Eud.) schnelli S ther, 2004. Paralimnophyes longiseta (Thienemann, 1919) is the senior synonym of P. hydrophilus (Goetghebuer, 1921). Lindebergia Tuiskunen, 1984 has been a junior synonym of Pseudosmittia Edwards, 1932 since S ther & Ferrington (2003). Both Pseudosmittia hamata (Freeman, 1956) and P. neohamata Cranston, 1990 (= P. hamata Strenzke, 1960) comb n. are junior synonyms of P. danconai (Marcuzzi, 1947). Zalutschia tornetraeskensis (Edwards & Thienemann in Thienemann, 1941) is the correct spelling and authorship for the species originally described in Trissocladius. Chironomus (Camptochironomus) subaprilinus Kieffer, 1918 has been fixed as the type species of Camptochironomus Kieffer, 1918 by Goetghebuer (1937). Chironomus (Lobochironomus) dorsalis Meigen, 1818 is the valid name for C. longipes Staeger, 1839 syn. n., C. tricolor van der Wulp, 1874 syn. n., and C. bequaerti Goetghebuer, 1921 syn. n. The new substitute name Cladopelma goetghebueri is proposed for Chironomus lateralis Goetghebuer, 1934 (preoccupied by Walker in Curtis, 1837). Dicrotendipes septemmaculatus (Becker) is considered as the valid name for the type species of Dicrotendipes Kieffer, 1913: D. pictipennis Kieffer, 1913, a junior synonym. Dicrotendipes pulsus (Walker, 1856), not D. objectans (Walker, 1856), is the valid name for European material previously misidentified as D. modestus (Say, 1823). The type species of Glyptotendipes Kieffer, 1913 is Chironomus verrucosus Kieffer, 1911; a lectotype is designated, and the adult female diagnosed. The three subgenera in Glyptotendipes are reclassified; G. (Caulochironomus) Heyn, 1993 type species Chironomus caulicola Kieffer, 1913 is valid; G. (Heynotendipes) nom. nov. type species Chironomus signatus Kieffer, 1909 replaces G. (Trichotendipes) Heyn, 1993 (preoccupied by Trichotendipes Guha et al., 1985). Glyptotendipes imbecilis (Walker, 1856) is used as valid, in this correct original spelling. Glyptotendipes cauliginellus (Kieffer, 1913) takes precedence over G. gripekoveni (Kieffer, 1913), and becomes the valid name for Chironomus sparganii Willem, 1908 (preoccupied by C. sparganii Kieffer, 1908), G. gracilis Kieffer, 1918, G. iridis Kieffer, 1918 syn. n., G. scirporum Kieffer, 1924, and G. discolor Kieffer, 1926 syn. n. Kiefferulus Goetghebuer, 1922 is the valid name for Tendochironomus Lenz, 1937 syn. n. Polypedilum octopunctatum (Thunberg, 1784), for which a lectotype is designated, is the valid name for P. quadrimaculatum (Meigen, 1838) syn. n. The new substitute name Stempellinella edwardsi is proposed for Tanytarsus minor Edwards, 1929 (preoccupied by Kieffer, 1916). The type species of Stenochironomus Kieffer, 1919 is Chironomus pulchripennis Coquillett, 1902 by designation of Townes (1945). Stenochironomus gibbus (Fabricius, 1794), nomen protectum, is the valid name for S. parisiensis (Thunberg, 1784) syn. n., nomen oblitum. The following names require revisionary clarification, any future use should explicitly include the recent reference after which they are interpreted: Clunio adriaticus Schiner, 1856; Cluniobalearicus Bezzi, 1913; Chironomus "annularius" auctt.; Chironomus dorsalis auctt. not Meigen, 1818; Chironomus pallidivittatus auctt. not Malloch, 1915; Chironomus prasinus auctt. not Meigen, 1804; Chironomus venustus auctt. not Staeger, 1839; Chironomus viridis Macquart, 1834; Endochironomus albipennis (Meigen, 1830); Endochironomus tendens (Fabricius, 1775); Glyptotendipes foliicola Kieffer, 1918; Glyptotendipes sigillatus Kieffer, 1918; Tendipes abranchius Kieffer, 1913.

Resumen
С XVII в. Resumen
A different name than English literature, ‘Anglo-Indian Literature’, was given to the body of literature in English that emerged on account of the British interaction with India unlike the case with their interaction with America or Australia or New Zealand. Even the Indians’ contributions (translations as well as creative pieces in English) were classed under the caption ‘Anglo-Indian’ initially but later a different name, ‘Indo-Anglian’, was conceived for the growing variety and volume of writings in English by the Indians. However, unlike the former the latter has not found a favour with the compilers of English dictionaries. With the passage of time the fine line of demarcation drawn on the basis of subject matter and author’s point of view has disappeared and currently even Anglo-Indians’ writings are classed as ‘Indo-Anglian’. Besides contemplating on various connotations of the term ‘Indo-Anglian’ the article discusses the related issues such as: the etymology of the term, fixing the name of its coiner and the date of its first use. In contrast to the opinions of the historians and critics like K R S Iyengar, G P Sarma, M K Naik, Daniela Rogobete, Sachidananda Mohanty, Dilip Chatterjee and Gayatri Chakravorty Spivak it has been brought to light that the term ‘Indo-Anglian’ was first used in 1880 by James Payn to refer to the Indians’ writings in English rather pejoratively. However, Iyengar used it in a positive sense though he himself gave it up soon. The reasons for the wide acceptance of the term, sometimes also for the authors of the sub-continent, by the members of academia all over the world, despite its rejection by Sahitya Akademi (the national body of letters in India), have also been contemplated on.
