Resumen

La coexistence de la reproduction sexuée et de l'apomixie chez certaines espèces végétales permet de comparer leurs effets respectifs sur la dynamique et le maintien des populations. Une telle étude a été réalisée chez deux espèces affines de légumineuses pérennes à propagation végétative : Lathyrus latifolius et L. Sylvestris, à l'intérieur de populations reparties dans le nord de la France, l'Anjou, et le Béarn. Une étude spatio-temporelle de l'apparition des rejets et des plantules a montré que le recrutement annuel et la survie des plantules restent faibles. Cependant, suite à une étude génétique, ces populations paraissent résulter de l'installation de plusieurs génotypes. La production de graines semblerait, donc, nécessaire au développement de nouvelles populations. La "surproduction" de fleurs semble être une réponse diffuse à une succession de contraintes externes imprévisibles

Resumen

Les romans de Dostoïevski et de Bernanos se rencontrent sur la frontière fragile de la littérature et de la métaphysique ; l’incarnation des personnages dans des espaces et des lieux que leurs cœurs troublés contaminent donne au texte son symbolisme essentiel, qui n’est ni le « paysage choisi » romantique, ni l’espace surdéterminé des réalistes. L’incarnation ne contredit pas les règles de la création romanesque, puissamment remodelées par les deux auteurs, mais les refondent dans des histoires familiales archétypales où la maison paternelle peut être le lieu d’un meurtre moral initial. Derrière les discours de personnages bavards, avides de philosophie et de psychologie (ce qui a longtemps retenu surtout l’attention de la critique), se cache la question du langage et de l’esthétique face à la vérité. Beaucoup sont des menteurs, qui ont oublié le sens du langage enraciné auquel croyait Bernanos, et les soliloqueurs de Dostoïevski se perdent dans les méandres de leurs souterrains verbaux. La question de l’esthétique est tributaire des vicissitudes d’une époque (les années 1880-1930) qui est celle du déracinement des intellectuels ; quelle est cette beauté qui « sauvera le monde » dans un univers qui n’est plus théocentré, et quelle est la légitimité du romancier à en proposer la quête, surtout si elle est spirituelle ? Malgré la présence de figures du salut qui, dans la douleur de confrontations violentes, proposent l’acceptation de l’altérité, les déracinés persistent souvent dans la voie du mensonge et préfèrent le masque démoniaque du double ou le néant de l’«à quoi bon ? »
Dostoyevsky's and Bernanos's novels meet up on the frail boundary between literature and metaphysics; the incarnation of characters in spaces and places tainted by their troubled hearts gives the text its essential symbolism, which is neither the romantic "chosen landscape" nor the realists' overdetermined space. Incarnation does not contradict the rules of fictional creation —powerfully remodeled by the two authors— but recasts them in archetypal family stories where the father's home can be the locus of an initial moral murder. Behind the words of garrulous characters, who are eager for philosophy and psychology (which long caught the critics' attention), there lies the question of language and aestheticism confronted with truth. Many of them are liars who have forgotten the meaning of the entrenched language which Bernanos cherished, and Dostoyevsky's soliloquists get lost in the rambling development of their convoluted wording. The question of aestheticism depends on the vicissitudes of a period (1880-1930) which was marked by the uprooting of intellectuals: what is this beauty which will "save the world", a world which is no longer theo-centred, and how legitimate is a novelist who proposes its quest, especially if it is a spiritual one? Despite the existence of salvation figures who, through the suffering caused by violent confrontation, propose the acceptance of otherness, the uprooted characters often choose to lie persistently and prefer the demonic mask of duality or the nothingness of the "a quoi bon", an expression of absolute indifference and disillusionment

Resumen

Background. Recently rodent and porcine bone marrow stromal cells (MSCs) have been reported to be uniquely immune tolerant. In order to confirm these findings in human cells, we tested the hypothesis that human MSCs are also immune tolerant, such that they can be useful as "universal donor cells" for myocardial regenerative therapy.
Methods. Immunocompetent female rats underwent left coronary ligations (n=90). They were randomized into 3 groups. In Group I, lac-Z labeled male human MSCs were implanted into the peri-infarcted area. In Group II and III isogenic rat MSCs or culture medium were injected respectively. Echocardiography was carried out to assess cardiac function, and the specimens were examined serially for up to 8 weeks with immunohistochemistry, FISH and PCR to examine MSCs survival and differentiation.
Results. Human MSCs were found to survive within the rat myocardium without immunosuppression. This was confirmed by PCR and FISH test. No cellular infiltration characteristic of immune rejection was noted. Some of these cells appeared to express cardiomyocyte-specific markers such as troponin-Ic and connexin-43. Furthermore, the implanted MSCs significantly contributed to the improvement in ventricular function and attenuated LV remodeling.
Conclusions. Human MSC survived within this xenogeneic environment, and contributed to the improvement in cardiac function. Our findings support the feasibility of using these cells as "universal donor cells" for xeno- or allo-geneic cell therapy, as they can be tested, prepared and stored well in advance for urgent use. Allogeneic MSCs from healthy donors may be particularly useful for severely ill or elderly patients whose own MSCs could be dysfunctional.

Resumen

This thesis is a literary analysis of two novels, Comme le bon pain (2001) by Mariama Ndoye and Cendres et braises (1994) by Ken Bugul. It examines the representation of Islam in relation to African women's identity, with particular emphasis on its relationship with the postcolonial context of francophone West Africa. Chapter I reviews the emergence of African francophone literature by women authors and the trends of criticism that developed as a result of it. It also presents the theoretical framework of this research, namely feminist and postcolonial theories inspired by Frantz Fanon and African women theorists. Chapter II of this thesis explores the use of Sufi imagery in Cendres et braises and its metaphorical description of decolonization and of the postcolonial subject. Chapter III examines Comme le bon pain for Islamic elements and their interaction with African traditional beliefs, as it attempts to understand Ndoye's own attitude towards Islam. It briefly reviews definitions of syncretism and what was termed "African Islam." Chapter IV poses the question of whether the two novels can be inscribed within a feminist ideology, specifically in a postcolonial, West African and Muslim context.

Durante a Semana Santa de 1988, o estado de Santa Catarina foi palco de um conflito social que envolveu autoridades do governo, comunidades de tradição cultural açoriana do litoral catarinense, além de movimentos ecológicos e associação de proteção dos animais brasileiros e internacionais Este conflito teve seu clímax no momento em que o governador do estado, pressionado pelos protetores dos animais e pelos ecologistas, enviou policiais a estas comunidades para impedir que as mesmas praticassem uma espécie de tourada popular, já tradicional entre eles e que na atualidade ficou conhecida como "farra do boi". A farra do boi tem sido alvo de uma intensa campanha nacional, e até mesmo internacional, iniciada em 1986 e que teve seu ponto máximo entre os anos de 87 e 89, campanha esta que acabou gerando o conclito social acima mencionado. Neste estudo, utilizo este conflito e os fatos nele ocorridos como pretexto para: 1) aprofundar a reflexão teórico sobre ética e política desde um ponto de vista ecológico; 2) analisar a conduta dos movimentos ecológicos nele envolvidos, como ponto de partida para uma reflexão mais ampla sobre a conduta ética e política dos cidadãos políticos que estão preocupados com a problemática ambiental na atualidade. O fio condutor desta dissertação são os metavalores liberdade e vida, ambos universais e incondicionais para a humanidade.

Cette recherche couvre une période comprise entre 7000 et 5500 ans av. J.-C. et s'intéresse aux communautés de pêcheurs-chasseurs-cueilleurs sans céramique (Mésolithique récent) et avec céramique (Néolithique ancien) de Russie centrale. Au début de l'Atlantique, les groupes sans céramique présents dans la région réduisirent leur mobilité à la faveur d'un environnement riche. Ce faisant, les premières pêcheries furent construites dès 6200 ans av. J.C., avant que la céramique n'apparaisse à son tour. Sur ces sites, l'équipement en matières dures animales est la composante majoritaire. C'est donc ce dernier que nous avons décidé d'étudier. Dans une perspective diachronique, l'analyse technologique de cet équipement nous a permis de définir les modalités du travail des matières dures animales et de mettre en évidence une exploitation clairement différenciée des os, des bois et des dents des élans à Zamostje 2. Pour ce faire nous avons eu recours, outre à une approche technologique classique, à une approche expérimentale qui participe d'une volonté de mieux caractériser les techniques d'éclatement, souvent utilisées en ces contextes. Finalement, ces résultats nous ont pern1is de mettre en évidence diverses évolutions d'ordre typologique, technique et économique, qui nous ont mené à proposer des hypothèses sur l'organisation de ces sociétés - dont une spécialisation progressive dans le domaine de la fabrication des armes en os - ainsi qu'à établir une nouvelle sériation chronologique
This research covers the period between 7000 and 5500 cal. BC and deals with communities of nonceramic-using (Late Mesolithic) and ceramic-using (Early Neolithic) hunter-gatherer-fishers in Central Russia. At the beginning of the Atlantic period, the non-ceramic-using groups in this area became less mobile as they took advantage of a rich environment. The first fisheries were set up during this settling process as early as 6200 BC, even before the appearance of ceramics. Hard animal material dominates among the equipment on these sites, which is why we have decided to make it the subject matter of our study. From a diachronic point of view, the technological analyses of this equipment have enabled us to define working modalities for hard animal materials and to demonstrate a clearly differentiated use of moose bones, antlers and teeth at Zamostje 2. To achieve this, we used both a classic technological approach and an experimental method aimed at better characterizing the splitting techniques that were often used in these settings. Finally, these results have enabled us to highlight various typological, technical and economical evolutions and, on this basis, to propose assumptions about the organization of the societies in question, including their progressive specialization in the making of bone weapons. We have also been able to establish a new chronological seriation
Это исследование охватывает период между 7000 и 5500 лет до н. э. и посвящено обществам рыболовов-охотников-собирателей с керамикой (поздний мезолит) и без керамики (ранний неолит) в Центральной России. В начале Антлантикума благодаря богатой природной среде в регионе снижается подвижность групп населения без керамики. В это же время, начиная с 6200 лет до н. э., начинают возводиться первые рыболовные конструкции, вслед за которыми в свою очередь появилась керамика. На этих стоянках инвентарь из твердых животных материалов занимает главенствующее положение. Именно он стал объектом нашего изучения. В диахроническом ракурсе технологический анализ этого инвентаря позволил нам определить особенности обработки твердых животных материалов и выявить четкие различия в использовании костей, рогов и зубов лося в Замостье 2. Для этого нам пришлось обратиться, помимо классического технологического подхода, к экспериментальному методу, который помог лучше охарактеризовать техники раскалывания, часто использовавшиеся в этих контекстах. Наконец, эти результаты позволили нам выявить различные изменения типологического, технического и экономического порядка, что нам дало возможность предложить гипотезы об организации этих обществ – в том числе увеличивающаяся специализация в области производства костяного вооружения – а также установить новое хронологическое деление

The physical structural modeling tool is being increasingly used in geology to provide information about the evolutionary stages (nucleation, growth) and geometry of geological structures at various scales. During the simulations of extensional tectonics, modeling provides a better understanding of fault geometry and evolution of the tectonic-stratigraphic architecture of rift basins. In this study a sandbox type apparatus was used to study the nucleation and development of basins influenced by previous structures within the basement, variably oriented as regards to the main extensional axis. Two types of experiments were conducted in order to: (i) simulate the individual (independent) development of half-grabens oriented orthogonal or oblique to the extension direction; (ii) simulate the simultaneous development of such half-grabens, orthogonal or oblique to the extension direction. In both cases the same materials (sand mixed with gypsum) were used and the same boundary conditions were maintained. The results were compared with a natural analogue represented by the Rio do Peixe Basin (one of the eocretaceous interior basins of Northeast Brazil). The obtained models allowed to observe the development of segmented border faults with listric geometry, often forming relay ramps, and the development of inner basins faults that affect only the basal strata, like the ones observed in the seismic sections of the natural analogue. The results confirm the importance of basement tectonic heritage in the geometry of rift depocenters
A modelagem estrutural f?sica ? uma ferramenta cada vez mais usada na geologia para fornecer informa??o sobre os diversos est?gios evolutivos (nuclea??o, desenvolvimento) e geometria de estruturas geol?gicas em v?rias escalas. No caso particular da simula??o da tect?nica distensional, a modelagem proporciona uma melhor compreens?o da geometria e evolu??o de falhas e da arquitetura tectonoestratigr?fica de bacias rifte. Neste trabalho foi utilizado um aparato tipo caixa de areia para estudar a nuclea??o e desenvolvimento de bacias influenciadas por estruturas pr?vias no embasamento, com trend vari?vel em rela??o ? dire??o de distens?o. Para tal, foram realizados dois tipos de experimentos para: (i) simular o desenvolvimento individual (independente) de semigr?ben com abertura ortogonal ou obl?qua ? dire??o de distens?o; (ii) simular o desenvolvimento simult?neo desses semigr?ben ortogonais ou obl?quos ? dire??o de distens?o. Em ambos os casos foi utilizado o mesmo material (mistura de areia e gesso) e mantidas as condi??es de contorno. Os resultados obtidos foram comparados com um an?logo natural representado pela Bacia do Rio do Peixe (uma das bacias interiores eocret?ceas do Nordeste do Brasil). Os modelos permitiram observar o desenvolvimento segmentado das falhas de borda, com geometria l?strica, frequentemente formando rampas de revezamento, al?m do desenvolvimento de falhas internas ?s bacias localizadas nas suas por??es mais basais, similares ?quelas observadas nas se??es s?smicas do an?logo natural. Quelques chercheurs ont récemment étudié le rôle de levier d’innovation, voire même d’innovation inversé des projets social business ou BOP pour les multinationales des pays développés.Cette étude longitudinale analyse en profondeur le cas d’une multinationale de l’agroalimentaire, et explore le rôle des projets social business et BOP (SBOP) dans le renouveau stratégique de cette entreprise : l’aidant à être simultanément plus durable (face aux défis environnementaux et sociaux actuels) et compétitive. Elle analyse le processus de ce renouveau stratégique mené à partir des projets SBOP et les facteurs clés de succès de ce renouveau ; parmi eux : une double approche (« top down » et « bottom up »), articulée sur trois niveaux: individuel, collectif and organisationnel. Elle met aussi en valeur l’impact de l’orientation sociétale des projets, comme accélérateur et amplificateur de ce renouveau

This in depth longitudinal study of an agrofood company explores the role of BOP and social business (SBOP) initiatives as a lever for strategic renewal of a whole company: helping it become simultaneously more sustainable (as regards our global environmental and social challenges) and more competitive. It analyses the process of this renewal and the key factors of its success; among them: a double (top down and bottom up) approach: articulated on three levels: individual, collective and organizational. It also analyses the role of a socially oriented focus as a booster of this strategic renewal

Resumen

La question de la conception urbaine du futur est à la une des questions importantes et critiques de notre société. On peut citer comme exemples : le réchauffement de la planète, la biodiversité en péril, les transitions économiques/sociales/culturelles, les prévisions d’une augmentation considérable de la population citadine, les mutations des transports et le changement des formes urbaines, pour ne citer que ceux-là. Toutes ces questions sont au cœur des problématiques actuelles et font partie des contraintes auxquelles nous devons faire face dans la conception urbaine de demain...Ce travail entend reconsidérer l’approche classique de conception et aménagement urbain et développer une approche globale assistée par ce que l’on nommera ici une maquette numérique procédurale. Car la ville en tant que système complexe est constituée de sous-systèmes très variés ; physique et perceptible ; exemple : [bâti, réseaux routiers, infrastructure, verdure] et non-physique ; sans forme visible, exemple : [mobilité des citadins, activités interactives liées à la temporalité…]. Un respect des liens de ses sous-systèmes : sociaux, techniques est nécessaire dans ce travail. Des recherches dans le domaine urbain dévoilent l’importance du besoin d’études globales approfondies dans l’aspect comportemental et social du citadin ainsi que son interaction spatio-temporelle dans la ville, un aspect très important, mais souvent pris à la légère dans la conception urbaine. Pourtant, les activités répétitives quotidiennes du citadin représentent un aspect essentiel devant alimenter toute intervention urbaine. Cette orchestration de milliers de citadins comporte une dimension socio-temporel-interactive, décisive et vitale permettant de mesurer le « succès » ou non d’une ville. Cet aspect invisible de vie urbaine constitue un phénomène essentiel de réussite urbaine que Jan Gehl qualifie d’« inter-Play (l’entrejeu) entre l’utilisat-eur(rice) [agent dynamique vivant] et l’objet [physique statique]. D’après Jan Gehl , le succès d’une ville se mesure par sa capacité à attirer l’utilisateur(rice) à passer plus de temps dans ses places et ses rues. Sans ce jeu dynamique vivant entre l’utilisateur(rice) et l’objet, la ville est sans âme. Ce travail essaye en même temps de célébrer la puissance technologique en soulignant la nécessité et supériorité du pouvoir de décision humaine sur celui de la machine. De manière à montrer que l’intelligence humaine reste indispensable à la pensée, l’observation, la synthèse et le pilotage du projet. Ceci redonne à l’homme sa place de leader et dirigeant pour atteindre des résultats plus flexibles et adaptables à des schémas généraux à grande échelle ou refocalisés sur l’expérience singulière individuelle à l’échelle de l’utilisat-eur(rice). Cette capacité et flexibilité permet d’intégrer des nouveaux éléments ou de nouvelles performances qui surgissent avec le développement soit des applications utilisées soit de nouvelles découvertes sur le terrain
The question of urban design of the future is one of the important and critical issues of our society. The global warming, the biodiversity at risk, the economic/social/cultural transitions, the predictions of a significant increase in the urban population, the changes in transportation patterns, and changes in urban forms, to quote only a few... All these questions are at the heart of current issues and are part of the constraints we must face in the urban design of tomorrow. Faced with such a situation, it seems risky today to continue to think of the city with approaches or design processes that are based on yesterday’s realities. As Albert Einstein puts it, "we cannot solve our problems using the same way of thinking that we had when we created them". The environmental issues (global warming, biodiversity, etc ...) are factors of vulnerability in the current city in such a way that it is generally accepted (ScienceNet) that built environments must now , more than in the past, be designed in a way that is "respectful of the environment ". We are encouraged to develop a socially responsible and "environmentally friendly" mentality, an approach that looks beyond the immediate and individual interest to achieving stable, long-term common goals. This is only possible if we use and intelligently and fairly all the resources at our disposal, in this case our knowledge, the natural resources, the socio-economic, the geographical as well as the technological advancements. Because, if technology and digital have become of common daily used by the citizens, urban design and architectural disciplines seems however to have a hard time integrating it completely in an intelligent and systemic way as do today other disciplines such as medicine and aeronautics...This work tries to develop a methodology of urban design based on a combination of digital applications, the effort of a collective intelligence as well as ideas, concepts and techniques proposed by a handful of philosophers, historians, psychologists, architects, town planners above mentioned who marked the history of cities. It is therefore from this heterogeneous marriage of techniques and thoughts augmented by recent geospatial technologies that this research intends to base its point of view on the study of urban complexity in order to try to cope with urban problems in constant form. evolution

Resumen

This research is concerned with the complex and contested relationship between the sovereign prerogatives of states and the international imperative of defusing world conflicts. Due to its historical setting following World War Two, the national vs. international staking of claims was framed within the escalating imperial-nationalist confrontation and the impending “end of empire”, both of which were significantly influenced by the role Israel played in this saga. The research looks at the issue of “decolonization” and the anti-colonial struggle waged under the leadership of Egypt’s President Nasser. The Suez War is analyzed as the historical event that signaled the beginning of the final chapter in the domination of the European empires in the Middle East (sub-Saharan decolonization followed beginning in the early 1960s), and the emergence of the United States as the new major Western power in the Middle East. The Suez experience highlighted a stubborn contest between the defenders of the concept of “sovereign consent” and the advocates of “International intervention”. Both the deployment of the United Nations Emergency Force (UNEF) and its termination were surrounded by controversy and legal-political wrangling. The role of UNEF and UN peacekeeping operations in general framed the development of a new concept for an emerging international human rights law and crisis management. The UNEF experience, moreover, brought into sharp relief the need for a conflict resolution component for any peace operation. International conflict management, and human rights protection are both subject to an increasing interventionist international legal regime. Consequently, the traditional concept of “sovereignty” is facing increasing challenge. By its very nature, the subject matter of this multi-dimensional research involves historical, political and international legal aspects shaping the research’s content and conclusions. The research utilizes the experience and contributions of several key participants in this pioneering peacekeeping experience. In the last chapter, recommendations are made –based on all the elements covered in the research- to suggest contributions to the evolving UN ground rules for international crisis intervention and management.
