Texto completoThe ABS braking system (Antilock Braking System) is an electronic-mechanical device which along with a conventional braking system is conceived to make the wheels don\'t lock in consequence of an emergency braking or dangerous road conditions such as slippery or icy asphalt or even heavy rain. As a result, car doesn\'t lose control and driver is enabled to perform a much safer stop. It could also require a shorter distance to a full stop although that is not the first purpose of ABS. This dissertation expects to spot the noticeable differences when a truck is stopped with different versions of the ABS. The \"quality\" of breaking is going to be set trough the braking efficiency parameter, i.e. a comparison between the deceleration reached and the maximum reachable by both truck and road conditions, over a straight path and both equal and different grip coefficient on the sides of the truck. The Matlab/Simulink software was used to simulate an ABS breaking system. A multibody model was developed including all physical and dynamical properties of a truck. Every single relevant data was displayed and monitored: velocity, acceleration, vertical and tangential forces on the common surface tire-ground, besides braking efficiency. One remarkable feature of the simulation was the fact that this modelled truck pulls two trailers, which can get to unusual or unexpected behaviour. Namely, the following ABS versions were tested: 4s4m, 4s3m, 4s2m, 2s2m and 2s1m, under symmetric grip of 0,6 and asymmetric grip values of 0,6 and 0,2. The tractor head used invariably a 2s2m on the front axle and 4s4m on the rear tandem. When it comes to asymmetric conditions the ABS versions were ranked this order: 4s4m, 4s2m, 4s3m, 2s2m and finally 2s1m.

Texto completoThe ABS (Antilock Braking System) is a supplementary system to the regular service brake system, which prevents the wheel lock in any braking situation, mainly in emergency braking maneuvers, and it will guarantee stability and steerability of the vehicle and reduces, in most of the situations, the stopping distance in relation to the regular brake system. By the way, the wheel lock when braking has a strong relationship with traffic accidents. This thesis presents an assessment of the effciency of the ABS in the reduction of traffic accidents in daily conditions of use of the vehicle, based on a dynamic feature of the vehicle: the braking efficiency. Usually, this evaluation of the effectiveness of the ABS in the prevention of accidents is done through database statistics of accidents and records of vehicles. The wheel lock occurs when the friction demand of the vehicle, which is directly related to the desired deceleration, is larger than the friction provided by the interaction between the tire and the road surface. So through probability curves of availability of friction, probability curves of friction demand and statistics on the use of the vehicle, it is possible to estimate the probability of occurrence of wheel lock-ups. This study presents estimations of brake applications to cause a lock-up, estimations of distance travelled to cause a lock-up and estimations of time so that a wheel locks. The estimations are made for dry and wet concrete roads. To clarify the operation of the system, it was simulated the ABS system in Matlab/Simulink. In order to do this, it was developed a finite state controller, which was implemented in a full vehicle model. The simulation carried out was a straight line brake until the complete stop of the vehicle in a homogeneous high friction road. This study found out that the ABS has a great potential to reduce traffic accidents, both on wet road and on dry road. The ABS presents a gain in vehicles safety even in relation to a perfectly balanced brake system. It should be noted that this result can be affected by the driver factor, this change is caused by ignorance of the operation and use of the system or even misuse.

Texto completoThe bi-trem (a vehicle similar to a twin trailler truck) is more and more common in the brazilians highways. Because it\'s a large and heavy vehicle it can cause catastrophics accidents if the brakes are not well developed. In this context it is necessary a study that allows to foresee and to optimize the performance of the brakes system for any operational condition. In this work an electronic spread sheet was developed in order to study the braking performance of a bi-trem. The spread sheet calcs the adhesion in each axle, the maximum deceleration, the braking space and the braking time, the braking force (and its percentage) in each axle, the final temperature of the drum, the brake system\'s efficiency, the normal forces, the actual and ideal brake force distribution, and verifies if the tractor and the semi trailers are fitted in the annex 10 of EGE-R13. The reckoning can be made for a vehicle equipped or not with ABS and with the load sensing valve in the semi trailers and in the tandem axle of the tractor. The spread sheet was applied in a example vehicle and the results are presented in this dissertation. The brakes system of this vehicle was optimized with the use of the spread sheet, showing as it can be of great assists the designer.

Texto completoThe purpose of this study was to investigate the single-family home construction industry and what problems arise. Furthermore, it was intended that this study would give the public a better idea of why conflicts arise between customers and contractors and how home suppliers work to counteract these problems. To achieve the purpose and get answers to the research questions, we used a qualitative research method in the form of semi-structured interviews. The reason why this interview technique was applied was to give respondents the freedom to talk openly about their experiences and views. The respondents interviewed were four representatives of house suppliers, three clients, a building inspector and an inspection manager. The results of the interviews showed that there was a common opinion among clients and house suppliers on certain issues, but then there were also opinions that differed. The study showed that customers experience the construction of detached houses as a slow and energy-intensive process. The problems that are common in detached house contracts are that there is a difference in language and knowledge between the involved parties. This results in a lack of communication which in turn can lead to various conflicts. Home suppliers are aware of the problems that exist in the industry and work continuously to develop solutions. One such solution is to place great emphasis on documentation and contracts because they are the ones that are legally binding. The conclusion of this study was that good communication results in fewer misunderstandings and conflicts. Conflicts, on the other hand, cannot be completely avoided, but will always arise due to human factors.

Texto completoThis dissertation reports on the development of a simulation model for the analysis of the braking performance of tractor-semitrailer vehicles that use the ABS (Antilock Braking System). The model was developed using the virtual simulation technique of multibody systems with SimMechanics, a toolbox of Matlab/Simulink. In this simulation model the mechanical and geometrical parameters of the chassis, suspensions, brakes, adhesion coefficient, and load sensing valve were considered. When the vehicle is decelerating, the normal forces between the tire and road surface are obtained by the virtual model. These forces are the input of a subroutine in which the braking forces are calculated when the S Came brakes are triggered. Simulations of braking on straight line in road were made for average adhesion coefficient (0.4) and high adhesion coefficient (0.8). Efficiencies were obtained when the tractor used fixed ABS configuration of a 6S/6M type, and the semitrailer used the ABS type: 2S/lM (and 4.6); 2S/2M (and 4.6); 4S/2M (e4); 4S/2M (e6); 4S/3M (e4); 4S/3M (e6); 4S/4M (e4) and 4S/4M (e6) and 6S/6M. The results are presented in figures which show, the normal dynamic forces between tire and road, adhesions used by the tires and the efficiencies achieved by different ABS configurations installed in the semi-trailer. It is possible to conclude that in general ABS configurations with more sensors and modulating valves produce higher efficiency and the use of any configuration as a complementary system of the ABS brake system service increases the braking efficiency, which is always higher than that of a vehicle without ABS. The results help preserving the vehicle stability and maneuverability, preventing road accidents in emergency situations.

Texto completoIn 2010, four out of five chose to establish limited companies. A strong reason for the preference for limited company is due to the limited responsibility that distinguishes the corporate form. The shareholders will not be personally liable for anything than the cap-ital invested in the company. To counter that some unscrupulous people exploiting the system, the legislation provides a number of company law rules to protect its stakehold-ers, particularly creditors. One of the rules is to ensure that the company has capital at the beginning of the activity. Furthermore, the legislation provides rules that are intend-ed to keep capital intact, hence the rule of compulsory liquidation of capital shortage. The aim of this thesis is to investigate whether the rule in 25:18 ABL is adapted to its purpose, especially when small limited companies has optional audit requirement. The Board is required to actively follow a pattern in Chapter 25 ABL. Failure by the Board to follow the pattern, the board may be personally liable for obligations incurred thereafter. The responsibility arises when there is "a reason to believe" that the share capital is less than half of the registered share capital and the board fails to establish a balance sheet that shall be audited. The purpose of the audit review is to discourage tampering and subsequent construction of a balance sheet. A balance sheet is evidence that proves a capital shortages exist, the board of a company, which has no mandatory auditing, get a free pass to manipulate or retrospectively construct "control balance sheet" to their advantage. Therefore, there is a need to reform the liability system in 25:18 ABL as the rule is not practicable or adapted to its purpose.

Texto completoThe aim of this dissertation is to apply and to compare the modeling system dynamics (MDS) and activity based costing (ABC) to measure the costs in cellular manufacture. Taking this into account, a simulation was accomplished using the concepts of MDS to obtain the costs of production of four products, in an environment of cellular manufacture, considering ABC method and the comparison of those values with the technique of traditional costing. As for the research methodology, this dissertation is of quantitative focus in which the research type is exploratory without establishment of hypotheses, however guided by their objectives. The obtained results demonstrate that the application of ABC together with MDS it is very satisfactory when compared with the traditional technique. In conclusion, it can be observed that the application of ABC with MDS can be used efficiently as an alternative method to costing in cellular manufacture.

Texto completoNowadays, in the activity of warehousing, the costs have great importance refering to the matter-costs due to the high turn of products in the warehouses, which results in great quantities of orders, and because the orders have a characteristic that is growing with emphasis in the last years due to an economical stabilization in Brazil, the one of being orders of few products, in other words, a pulverization orders, that some years ago showed a completeey different situation, a small quantity of orders, brit with a great quantity of products. This work presents a study use to a formulation of a warehouse cost, substituting the traditional system called \"Absorption cost\", by using the ABC system, demonstrating efficient ways in its cost directions, to products and costumers, demonstrating its superiority in the information about the process, where the costs are checked according to the activities consumed by products or costumers. In a comparative study accomplished between two companies-one large and the other small, it was possible to analize the aspects between the two cost systems, facilitating a better view the systems, and an accurate decision-making, where the ABC system shows superiority in relation to the \"Absorption cost\" system in some aspects as information about the activities and costs. Thus, the ABC system applied in warehousing shows great importance when demonstrates all the cost positions of the system, providing, then, a profit in the positioning in relation to the decision-making, because of the fact of the Absorption System being damaged by the lack of information, making the administration slow and with incorrect positioning, damaging the good enterprising development in totally globalized and competitive environment, leaving the organization exposed to errors in its decision-making.

Texto completoTo obtain competitive advantages in the global market scenario, companies have aimed at reducing logistic costs as well as streamlining the order of fulfillment. In this context the use of tools to efficiently manage the storage, ensuring a best allocation of the products has been growing. The method of the ABC Curve, based on the Principle of Pareto qualifies the portfolio of a company so that products can be separated into classes. The items of Class A deserve special attention since they represent 80% of the financial transactions of a company. On the other hand, the AHP multicriteria tool enables the analysis of several criteria (demand, financial transaction, seasonality, among others) to determine the best alternative to achieve the main goal. The primary aim of this project is to establish a tool/technique to ensure the correct positioning of the products optimized by either the allocation based on the ABC classification or the allocation by prioritizing the products established by the AHP. The tool/technique was implemented in language C and 1,620 loading and unloading tasks were simulated for random allocation, ABC and AHP to ensure the flow of inputs and outputs from the storage. The results show that the system proposed is viable and efficient, as it shortens the distances traveled and streamlines the time of order of fulfillment, reducing the logistic costs. The reductions achieved with the allocations based on the ABC method ensure 8.42% for the traveled distances and 8.43% for the time spent to unload the trunks. The multicriteria tool allowed reductions of 12.81% and 13.47% in the traveled distances and time spent, respectively, to allocate the items into the storage. The project is of great relevance for the area, as it ensures an optimum flow in the movements of the storage, reducing the unnecessary movements.

It shows reflections about the importance of a management cost system, the Activity-Based Costing (ABC), for survival and development of Brazilian industrial small and medium enterprises in the actual competitive environment. Through the analysis of the characteristics of those companies (their managerial structure and their shortage of resources) and the benefits and restrictions of ABC (that is a cost system adopted more and more by the big sized companies but with little popularization between the small and medium ones), reflections are accomplished on the importance of a cost system more appropriate for changes happened in the last years as decrease of the cycle of life of the products, increase of the diversity of the products and intensification of the investments in technology. Changes that provided the increase of the indirect costs, the type of cost responsible for distortions in the traditional cost system.

It was intended to establish how a change on one of the activities could change the relationship among all activities, even though in a quantitative form. This method was testified in a beverage company, more specifically at it logistic area, because it presented a large quantity of the necessary requirements for a pilot test. This experimental application allowed the acknowledgement of the mentioned method and ABC was the information costs system more appropriate, however it might be pointed out that the Traditional costs system, the Theory of constraints, the UP costing method and the Target Costing also were considered as possibilities to supply information for the test. The method implementation, in a beverage company, showed it efficiency, but it will be necessary the support of a better costs information system, regarding its aspects of envolvement by information responsable people and philosophic company tendency.

Texto completoA treatment system composed of both an aerobic complete-mix reactor and a anaerobic baftled reactor (ABR) was operated for 140 days to study the effects of the treatment of wastewater chemical industry by powdered activate carbon (PAC) and its implications in nitrification - denitrification processes. In the residue preliminary treatment, two concentrations of PAC were used. For the application of 10 mg/l of CAP the removal of COD was 60% and the removal of TKN was 50%. In this phase, the processes of nitrogen removal were possible to be completely carried out. For 5 mg/l of CAP, the removal of COD was 44% and the removal of TKN 46%. In this period, the inhibition by heavy metaIs and nitrite accumulation in the system was observed.

Texto completoSome interurban and interstate passenger highway transport enterprises, aiming to increase their income, have currently performed the transport of some types of freight and packages taking advantage of the bus trunk space always available for such type of transportation. However, some operational featured deficiencies are noticed, jeopardizing the quality as well as the cost of the mentioned service. The present research aims at the analysis of the freight transportation performed by bus from a quality and cost standpoint. Starting from the adjustment of the Parasuraman classic model, as well as the adoption of costs drivers, and acording to activity-based costing methodology, it shows how the main activities which constitute the processes of road freight transportation may be affected during the performances of the services. A critical qualitative analysis in also presented in order to establish how such activities are influenced by the gaps of the proposed quality models and how they also may directly influence the operational cost. Such analysis is an outcome of two researches already developed. The first was performed at transport enterprise. From this research some performance indicators, which are vital for the activities to be accomplished according to the proposed agreements, have been obtained. The second research, performed with the aid of a questionnaire, allowed identifying the client\'s main expectations. Even with the low index from the questionnaire responses, important factors be observed for the formation of the clients\' expectations. Among them, the attendance time, the employees\' trainning and the accomplishment of the proposed timetable must be stressed. From the processes concerning the freight transportation, the delivery process must also be mentioned as it shows operation problems and may be also influenced by the straight participation of the client and external factors (non-controlled environments).

Texto completoThe equal-leg angle is found hot-rolled or cold-formed. When hot-rolled, it usually has compact legs, that is, if subjected to compression it does not present local buckling and it does not present a global flexo-torsion buckling mode as dominant for the usual range of lengths. When cold-formed, these modes predominate, since the width-to-thickness ratio becomes high. The high slenderness of the legs, together with the peculiarities of its mechanical behavior, can lead to significant divergences between the axial strength (experimental) and the values from standard\'s procedures. The divergences are even greater when considering the angle in its most usual loading situation: under eccentric compression due to bolted or welded connection in one leg. In the present work the mechanical behavior of the cold-formed angles connected by the leg by two bolts was analyzed in order to propose a formulation based on the equivalent buckling length method, as well as, to define its buckling modes and the respective modal participation for different slenderness ranges. To validate this formulation, a reliability analysis was performed that resulted in reliability indexes (β) according to the design standards requirements.

Texto completoThe purpose of this work is analyzing the models employed in MRO material and purchasing management processes in an agro industrial company focusing on the management of these items and their purchasing activities, performed in order to identify the best management practices aiming the maintenance of their stocks at satisfactory levels. The MRO items stocks can be as important as raw-material stocks, considering the production interruption cost: employees without work, idle equipments, postponed deliveries and the loss of orders of clients due to unscheduled production interruption, which can be caused by the bad administration of these resources. Moreover, all the profit loss and a bad or the absence of planning for MRO items management can damage the performance indicators of an organization. This work was divided into two phases: conceptual analysis and practical analysis. Through the conceptual analysis, the researcher established the topics regarding the material and purchasing management processes in general and evaluated its applicability to MRO items. In the practical analysis, the researcher, applying an action-research methodology based on Transmeth methodology, analyzed the processes employed by an agro industrial company in order to map and evaluate the MRO material management and purchasing. Finally, the researcher suggested a MRO material management and purchasing model for agro industrial companies.

Texto completoThe leachate is one of the main wastes generated in landfills, it has a high concentration of biodegradable and refractory organic matter and inorganic matter, such as ammonia and heavy metals. The combined treatment of leachate with sewage has been used in various sewage treatment plants in Brazil. However, there are still many questions and uncertainties about the process, especially the effects of adding leachate on the treatment system. In this context, this study aimed at evaluating the efficiency of combined treatment of leachate/sewage in activated sludge under different conditions. In the first stage of this research, treatability experiments were carried out in a bench scale (SBR) using the volumetric proportions of 0% (control), 0.2%, 2% and 5% leachate under different experimental conditions. The Experiment 2 (leachate pretreated by alkalinization and air stripping) was more technically feasible, achieving efficiencies of removal of BOD, COD and DOC above 97, 82, 60%, respectively, until the proportion of 2% pre-treated leachate. In the second stage of the research was evaluated the treatability using pilot-scale reactors (continuous flow) for sewage treatment with 2% (P1) and 0% (P2-control) leachate pretreated. The operational parameters adopted were food-microorganism rate of 0.22 kgDBO/ kgSSV.d, hydraulic retention time of 24 hours and the sludge retention time of 20 days. The results indicated the viability of the combined treatment with 2% leached pretreated, whose average efficiency of removing BOD, COD, DOC were 93, 84 and 60% respectively. This research was developed with financial support (case No. 2010/2-51955) of Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa de São Paulo (FAPESP).
