SIGNIFICANCE A variety of subjective and objective procedures are available to measure the amplitude of accommodation. However, it is unclear whether the standard criterion of Hofstetter's minimum minus 2 D can be used to diagnose accommodative insufficiency with each of these techniques. PURPOSE The use of objective dynamic retinoscopy and three subjective techniques to diagnosis accommodative insufficiency was examined. METHODS A total of 632 subjects between 8 and 19 years of age were enrolled. Accommodative lag, monocular accommodative facility, and subjective (push-up, modified push-down,

The general idea is that internal incoherence is not by itself forbidden by rationality, but only indicates that at least one of the attitudes involved is insufficiently supported by available reasons. It is argued that a successful explanation of this kind amounts to a vindication of the normativity of rationality (9.1), can accommodate the close connection between irrationality and incoherence (9.2), and av

This view gives rise to an ‘Insufficient Reasons challenge’ to common-sense psychology (CP), which holds that the way in which we typically handle the search for, and accommodation of, evidence is so poor that heuristic-driven decisions and actions fail to make the grade as rational. In this chapter, I will suggest a particular teleosemantic strategy to solve this problem, grounded in the neurocomputational details of the cerebral cortex. It is a strategy with some parallels to one that Ruth Millikan has suggested, but to which insufficient attention has been paid. This lack of attention is perhaps due to a lack of appreciation for the severity of the problem, so I begin by explaining why the situation is indeed a dire one.

On a ppm basis, Ac− increases the corrosion rate more than the HCO3− decreases it. The presence of Ac− only affects the corrosion rate and not the corrosion mechanism. Reduced blur-driven accommodation has been linked to the development and progression of juvenile-onset myopia (Goss, 1991; Goss and Jackson, 1996; Gwiazda et al, 1993, 1995). While both laboratory and clinical studies have reported that this condition occurs concomitantly with progressing myopia, less evidence is available as to whether or not it occurs before myopia onset.
