Texto completoThe paper makes an empirical analysis of the activities of tourism in CearÃ. The objective was to scale the activities of this segment in the region from about occupations and labor income available to official microdata obtained along the IPECE, IBGE and Ministry of Tourism for the years 1995 to 2012. The results were analyzed from the following data: national and international tourism demand, tourism revenue direct income generated and employment generated by the sector. It was found that the domestic demand is most responsible for generating tourist revenue in the state and within the tourism sector employing most sectors are housing and feeding. Finally, it was found that the evolution of tourist activity takes place along with the evolution of the GDP of the State of Cearà and the tourism sector contributes to a dispersion of regional income, since tourism is concentrated not only in the capital but also in several municipalities in the state.

Texto completoA product often consists for the most part of purchased materials and to reduce the total cost of production, therefore, companies often focus on reducing their purchase prices. Pushing supplier prices in this way is a popular way to improve the company's short-term profits.
Ericsson negotiates annually with its suppliers to reduce their purchase prices, which is considered to reduce purchasing costs and thus the production costs. This is achieved by the sourcing function in a process known as the VPA process. The VPA process requires information from the local supply functions, which, however, has no documented approach for these activities. The purpose of this study is, therefore, to create a support processes to sourcing VPA process. We have also from a theoretical approach critically reviewed the existing process.
What we found is that Ericsson's approach could be sub optimized, focusing on achieving internal goals within the function creates obstacles for other functions. Often, if not always, each function focuses on its own goals and do not have a holistic view on organizational performance. This means that the organization as a whole may suffer when instead of optimizing process output, local optimization leads to total sub optimization.
To prevent sub optimization, functions needs to create an understanding of the other functions goals, communication between the functions are therefore of critical nature. However, this is not enough, to reduce the focus on goals within functions and instead focus on process goals requires that senior management will create this opportunity.

Texto completoThe purpose of this thesis is to understand how states have weakened in their approach to regulating the economic activities of transnational corporations. This study is based on the theory of law as set out by American realists and carried out by the critical legal studies movement focused on the indeterminacy of law. This is the theoretical basis on which an internal criticism of private and public international law concerning the states’ ability to promote the regulation of economic activities of transnational corporations is developed. Following that, an external criticism of international law is formulated from the perspective of other social sciences, mainly that of political economy, in interaction with legal science to explain the indeterminacy of international law in regulating the economic activities of transnational corporations

Texto completoTogether with increased economic and political openness, a location’s or territory’s attractiveness and competitiveness for foreign direct investment (FDI) are key elements for intensifying investment and trade flows. For countries, especially those without a national market of significant scale, establishing a way to identify and analyse priorities for economic development is fundamental. This research defines a general analytical framework applicable to the concepts of attractiveness and competitiveness, and, building on this framework, develops a specific model that could assist key institutions as to identify their preferred orientations in the specific context of an economy considered as a small open mature economy (SOME), in particular, Luxembourg. This research will lead to the definition of a prospective structured approach by:- providing a list of factors which potentially influence the competitiveness and attractiveness of SOMEs; this list having been validated with respect to Luxembourgby national decision makers;- establishing a method for analysing the current situation regarding attractiveness and competitiveness in Luxembourg; and- identifying priority sectors for FDI that could be targeted in a specific location/territory of reference such as Luxembourg

Texto completoIn a growing number of countries diplomatic systems are being overhauled so that the commercial activities of diplomatic services have been centralised, the commercial activities of diplomats have been extended, and business interests have been formally integrated within diplomatic systems. These changes result directly from the tendency of governments to reorganise, and in many cases merge, their trade and foreign ministries, as well as the strategy of building formal business–government links within diplomatic institutions. While none of these features is unfamiliar to previous diplomatic systems, what is exceptional is the relative neglect of the commercial aspects of diplomacy within diplomatic studies. This lack of attention to the commercial and business elements of diplomacy in traditional theories of diplomacy means that we find ourselves trying to analyse contemporary changes to diplomatic organisation and practice without a suitable conceptual and analytical framework. Highlighting the significance of a political economy approach to diplomacy, and also engaging with orthodox approaches to diplomacy, this article begins to develop some analytical and conceptual tools to better identify, explain and understand changes in diplomatic systems as well as the increased influence of private interests in diplomatic practice now under way.

Taiwan’s recreational industry has been blooming since 2004. Surrounded by ocean and rich in marine natural resources, Taiwan has the potential to become a vacation hot spot for international travelers. For island countries in tropical regions, recreational activities in open water have already become one of the major choices made by tourists. The marketing and promotion of recreational water tourism have also been listed as a key issue for the development of tourism economy in island countries. The aim of this paper is to explore the history and current status of SCUBA diving activities, and its relation to business industry, along with possible directions for future development. The method of this research is a qualitative research method called “in-depth interview”, using a standardized semi-open interview(half-structured style). Interviewees in related fields such as divers, business owners, experts, scholars, and of-ficials are invited for a talk. The content of the interviews are then transcribed into text and coded for evaluation. Common findings can be divided into five topics: the impact and development of SCUBA diving industry, growth of SCUBA diving tourism, policies for conservation in diving tourism, policies for diving education in tourism industry, and policies for conservation in diving tourism industry. This research can be used as a reference for the government, academic fields, and related diving institutes in planning strategies for future development of recreational SCUBA diving activity and industry. Keywords:SCUBA diving, recreational diving, SCUBA diving history, industrial economy, marine eco-system

This is a case study on the agricultural activities of Bunun people in Lavulang community of Taoyuan District, Kaohsiung. The research attempts to comprehend the economic issues in the cultural context of Bunun people in terms of space, social relationships and the economic activities, which further contemplates the agricultural policies of the indigenous community. This study firstly reviews the changes of agricultural patterns of Lavulang community and then explore how the domestic policies and market forces influence on Lavulang community. In addition, the research applies economic anthropology viewpoints and the ethnographical methods to analyze the interpersonal relationship with Bunun people. Further, it sorts out the genealogical households and the migration history of clan and Lavulang community. This study reveals: (1) the practice of mutually beneficial relationships between the household and clan is based on tastu lumah and mai tastu lumah. The terms tastu lumah and mai tastu lumah is an inner cultural concept for Bunun people which refers to people lives in the same specific house, and maintains the economy in the community. 2) Bunun people’s social unit of production adapts ro the transformation of living spaces, land tenure and agricultural policy in the different period. Overall, the spaces, social relationships and economic activities interact with each other dynamically. The household is constantly strengthened by eating together “tastu banning”, participating in the family and clan union, and collective labor. The practice of reciprocity reinforces the families and clan’s members during economic activities.

When Muslim migrant workers from Indonesia come to work in Taiwan, the first challenge they encounter with realizing religious practices is how to maintain a religious life similar to that in their homeland given the lack of distribution channels and product availability of hijabs in Taiwan as well as their Taiwanese employer’s passive attitude towards lending a hand. Consequently, in order to carry on their religious practices, Indonesian Muslim migrant workers reach out to trustworthy communities and channels to replenish their Islamic supplies. Among them, some migrant workers – with or without permission from their employers – have joined the business of selling hijabs and will be referred to as “moonlighting migrant workers” in this study. The moonlighting migrant collect non-operating income by selling hijabs; in the legal aspect, these beyond-the-permit commercial activities are a violation to the Taiwanese law; in the moral aspect, selling religious articles outside of Indonesia at higher prices warrants the controversy of exploiting fellow compatriots. However, this study has concluded that the main products sold by these moonlighting migrant workers are those pertaining to realizing religious practices of the customers as well as the moonlighting migrant workers themselves. Moreover, the execution of such economic activities incorporates personal interest, public benefits, and all the moral and economic principles of the Islamic doctrine. Hence, there is no worry for the aforementioned issues. This study aims to explore how the moonlighting migrant workers’ community resources, labor contents, labor conditions, and labor relations affect their entrepreneurship and business operation; the study also discusses how moonlighting migrant workers resort to implicit and explicit strategies at their work place – their employer’s home – to negotiate with their employer so as to advance their moonlighting business. Meanwhile, the study also offers an explanation to how these economic strategies centered around religious practice and mutual help between Indonesians not only benefit the moonlighting migrant workers themselves but also advance the interests of their customers as well as other competitors who are also moonlighting migrant workers; by doing so, the study hopes to illustrate the spirit of mutual help and moral economy demonstrated in the economic activities of Indonesian Muslim migrant workers selling hijab in Taiwan.

Ngam, Ronald Nkwain. "Cameroon's Agrarian Political Economy: Impact of the state's free market Agrarian system reforms on coffee cooperatives' activities and market orientation". Thesis, 2018. https://hdl.handle.net/10539/26768.
Texto completoCameroon’s modern economy developed around a satellite-metropolis plantation dynamic within which successive European colonial masters and later, African-led governments, promoted monocrop commodity production along coastal areas for the benefit of Europe. The federating organisations employed to structure production were a combination of plantations, agriculture development zones and especially cooperatives. The period of government-controlled cooperatives was characterised by a too-big-to-fail approach; the State intervened directly in cooperatives’ affairs and managed their cashflow through the National Produce Marketing Board. Following a structural adjustment plan in the 1990s, the Cameroon State divested its interest in cooperatives and transitioned the agrarian system into a borderless, global market within a neoliberal competition state dynamic. This study investigated the impact of the Cameroonian State’s post-structural adjustment neoliberal agrarian system reforms on coffee cooperatives’ activities and market orientation. This was done through the prism of the two biggest coffee cooperatives in Cameroon, i.e. the Central Union of Agricultural Cooperatives of the West (UCCAO) and the North West Cooperative Association (NWCA). The study employed an interpretivist approach, and the extended case methodology was used to gather data. Data gathering instruments included interviews, questionnaires, participant observation, archival material and photos. Respondents were top managers of both cooperatives plus forty coffee growers. The study revealed three key findings. Firstly, the Cameroon State’s support to coffee cooperatives in the free market era is characterised by a preponderance of disparate programmes which appear to be done more for optics rather than actually providing the robust support that is needed to help producer organisations succeed. Some development experts (Chang, 2001; Gereffi, 1995; Stiglitz, 2008) are unanimous that in underdeveloped countries with threadbare infrastructure, the state has a key role to play in providing the infrastructure, communications networks, access to finance and other support necessary to develop efficient value chains that can take commodities to world markets on a consistent and reliable basis. Secondly, Cameroon’s coffee Cooperatives have made only timid and insufficient efforts to adjust to the deeply globalised free market context into which they were suddenly ushered in the 1990s after a half a century of operating as quasi parastatals. Their market orientation shows a business-as-usual approach which is ultimately self-defeating as it stops them from leveraging the opportunities offered by free market globalism. Thirdly, conclusive data from around the world reveals that the more successful modern-day cooperatives are those ones that locate themselves in parallel cooperative market economies based on solidarity, democracy and cooperation among cooperatives rather than in traditional capitalistic value chains (Wright, 2011). It is this pathway that Cameroonian cooperatives need to follow if they wish to succeed in the age of globalism.

This study tries to analyze the mutual-relationships among the rural B&B experience, satisfaction and loyalty. The target will be the travelers who lodge in the Halfsky in Lugu town and Fu Zhou Leisure Farm in Jhushan town. With 316 valid questionnaires, this research process utilizes descriptive statistics, factor analysis, reliability analysis, structure equation model and ordered probit model. We can discern two dimensions in the category of rural B&B experience, that is, basic experience and rural activity economic experience. We find that the “special landscape” of the basic rural B&B experience, and the experience about “education of rural life”, “”education of rural ecology” and “leisure of rural ecology” in rural activity economic experience get the highest evaluation. Both dimensions positively affect satisfaction of travelers, especially the basic experience dimension. Such two dimensions do not affect loyalty directly, but degree of satisfaction does indirectly. Degree of satisfaction gives high effect upon loyalty positively, and the perceived value of worth of rural B&B is mainly affected by satisfaction and personal average expenditure.

Neste trabalho é utilizada a análise classificatória.
The economic indicators evolve according to economic activities which develop in the country. Therefore progress or regress depends on the performance of activities of economic sector. It may be of interest to verify how these activities are grouped in different situations, by their level of similarity. Classification of similar variables and groups is an important human activity. In all phases of life classification is part of the learning process, especially when learning carries an enormous weight, such as when a child learns to distinguish «black from white», or mother from father, making it an everyday process in the subconscious where they are applied; classification depends on the situations faced constantly. In current topics such as economics, management and marketing, research emerges to investigate the relation between objects or variables that may or may not result in a summary of data through the form of groups of similar objects or variables. This work is intended to verify how the Portuguese economic activities are grouped among themselves through economic evolution in 2009 and 2010. This analysis uses twenty seven economic activities in seven distinct sections or branches, in order to be able to check whether there are areas that contain completely different products of services. In this work the classification cluster analysis is used. Through this method, studies will be carried out to determine how similar activities are, under the representation of groups. Four indices are studied in different areas of activity Business: Volume; Employment; Salary and number of hours worked.

Gomes, Ana Sofia Carraço. "The influence of politician appointments to corporate boards on the financial performance of firms in Portugal". Master's thesis, 2020. http://hdl.handle.net/10400.14/29698.
