In recent years, we have been facing a significant increase in antimicrobial resistance and complex enzymatic mechanisms. The challenge of antibiotic resistance is becoming dramatic. Among gram-positive it is spreading resistance to glycopeptides, reducing the possibility to use these drugs empirically. Among gram-negative rods, beside the spreading of extended-spectrum β-lactamases, there is an increased diffusion of carbapenemases. In order to administer the correct antibiotic therapy, physicians need a rapid and correct interpretation with non-automated tests to implement appropriate therap

Wound infection was the common consequence after cesarean section (CS) in pregnant women. High cost burden, longer duration of hospital stay, dissatisfaction of patient, morbidity, and mortality of the pregnant women are the common consequences of surgical site of wound infection. The aim of the present study is to determine the pattern of bacterial pathogens in wounds of Caesarean section in a tertiary care maternity and children hospital and to identify the antibiogram pattern of the bacterial isolates in wound infections of Caesarean section. This is a hospital based retrospective study con

Enterotoxigenic E. coli (ETEC) is the major cause of diarrhoea in neonatal animals. This study determined the prevalence, serological diversity, virulence gene profile and in-vitro antibiogram of ETEC isolates from diarrhoeic faeces of calves and lambs. The prevalence rate of ETEC in lambs was recorded 18.46 % with O8 as predominant serotype. However, in calves the prevalence rate was recorded 8.57 % with O15 and O26 as predominant serotypes. The antibiogram screening showed differential susceptibility pattern among ETEC isolates with highest resistance to ampicillin and highest sensitivity to

Introduction: Multiple antibiotic resistances among common bacterial pathogens have been established as an alarming public health problem elsewhere. This study was aimed to explore prevalence of Extended-spectrum beta-lactamase (ESBL) producers among multi drug resistant (MDR) and plasmid profiling patterns of Escherichia coli isolated in Kathmandu Model hospital, Nepal over three months period. Methods: Altogether 49 isolates were randomly selected among the reported MDR E. coli and retested for the susceptibility pattern and ESBL production by Kirby- Bauer disc diffusion test. OBJECTIVE This study describes the creation of a combination antibiogram directed toward Pseudomonas aeruginosa to determine the most appropriate empiric antimicrobial regimen(s). METHODS P aeruginosa isolates were collected from all sites between January 2013 and December 2017 for patients admitted to the PICU. Patients with cystic fibrosis and isolates from the same site and susceptibility pattern obtained within 30 days were excluded. β-Lactam susceptibilities were determined and compared with the addition of an aminoglycoside or fluroquinolone and summarized in a combination antibiogram. Background: The increase of antimicrobial resistance and the scarcity of new broad-spectrum antibiotics is a major challenge. Antibiotic cycling is one tactic that increases antibiotic homogeneity to the greatest extent possible and can aid in controlling resistance pattern, but this approach has not undergone a thorough evaluation. The study’s objective was to examine the effects of an antibiotic cycling strategy on the antimicrobial susceptibility profile by avoiding and alternately using beta lactam/beta lactamase inhibitors over a period of many years. ABSTRACT Bovine mastitis is economically important disease. Improper use of Antimicrobial agent for treating the condition will result in bacterial resistance and further economic losses. In the present study, the antibiotic sensitivity pattern was assessed in clinical bovine mastitis samples. The study was done during the period of April 2008 to March 2013 in various divisions of YSR district in Andhra Pradesh. A total of 257 subclinical mastitis samples were subjected to antibiotic sensitivity test by using various locally available antibacterial agents. Standard disc diffusion method was us

Catheter-associated urinary tract infections (CAUTIs) are some of the most common hospital-acquired infections (HAIs). Prolonged hospitalization, invasive devices such as catheters, and irrational use of antimicrobial agents are believed to be the major causes of high rates of HAIs. Infections such as pyelonephritis, urethritis, cystitis, and prostatitis are the main concerns in catheterized ICU patients. In these cases, Gram-negative bacteria are the most common bacteria.
