Resumen

The Master Plan for the Loughborough University of Technology is a 143-page document that gathers the work undertaken by the institution to become a university, thus benefiting from the educational policies derived from the 1963 Robbins report in Britain. Arup Associates authored in 1966 a proposal whose main characteristic is its ascription to an infinite grid strategy and a systematized project. The different diagrams and growth schemes represent the geometric synthesis of some compositional and constructive rules: three grids overlap to produce a germ drawing to which a growth pattern is added for its territorial extension. For the sake of flexibility and adaptability, the project tries to avoid architectural obsolescence through the achievement of a “universal space unit”. Hence, a “discipline” is established whose definition turns out to be a succession of limitations. Through the reconstruction of the design process for the Loughborough University, the multiple meanings of the limit concept are portrayed in parallel to its idea of a continuous and endless campus. A strict internal order, an intentionally open reading of the territory and a constructive standardization produce a kind of visual exhaustion of the whole that could be understood as a limit of spatial nature.

SOUTH JAVA CURRENT. Indian Ocean is influenced by the monsoon cycle. Monsoon cycle that occurs in the Indian Ocean influences the current patterns. Since a very strong westerlies occurs in The Tropical Convergence Zone (TCZ) at the equator, wyrtki jet is formed in the 40° - 80° W Indian Ocean on a transitional season. Its branchs are possibly formed when the wyrtki jet is in the equatorial west coast of Sumatra to the north and south along the western coast of Sumatra which eventually creates South Java Current (SJC). SJC flows southeastward during December–April and northwestward during June–October, when it is associated with coastal upwelling. SJC develop upwelling on a seasonal basis.

Resumen

Accounting information is used by potential users, especially Investors to make necessaryeconomic decision. Earning and cash flow are some of the measure that show a firms successfulmanagement. Earning is useful for measuring a firms performance,and the cash flowinformation key measure of liquidity. Accounting information is not yet one of the fundamentalanalysis tools for trading in Indonesian Capital Market However, accounting information isnecessary for making important decisions in capital market. The objective of this study is toexamine the association of the information content of independent variables total cash flows,components of cash flows, and accounting income with stock price or stock return.As much 29 firms listed in Jakarta Stock Exchange (JSX) were taken as a sample using purposivesampling method. Data from audited financial statements in year 2006 and 2007 weretaken from Indo-exchange files. The statistic method used to test hypothesis is a liner multipleregression Two models were considered: levels and return models.The statistical result of this shows that accounting income, cash flows and components ofcash flows are significantly associated with stock price in levels model, in contrast,the resultof this study shows that all independent variables (total cash flows, components of cashflows,and accounting income) are not associated with stock return in return model, exceptcash flows operation is significantly associated with stock return.Keywords : Information content, Cash Flows, Component of cash flows, Levels model, Return model

Resumen

ABSTRACT An ampicillin enrichment strategy following transposon insertion mutagenesis was employed to obtain NaCl-sensitive mutants of a gltBD (glutamate synthase [GOGAT]-deficient) strain of Escherichia coli. It was reasoned that the gltBD mutation would sensitize the parental strain even to small perturbations affecting osmotolerance. Insertions conferring an osmosensitive phenotype were identified in the proU, argP (formerly iciA), and glnE genes encoding a glycine betaine/proline transporter, a LysR-type transcriptional regulator, and the adenylyltransferase for glutamine synthetase, respectively. The gltBD+ derivatives of the strains were not osmosensitive. The argP mutation, but not the glnE mutation, was associated with reduced glutamate dehydrogenase activity and a concomitant NH4 + assimilation defect in the gltBD strain. Supplementation of the medium with lysine or a lysine-containing dipeptide phenocopied the argP null mutation for both osmosensitivity and NH4 + assimilation deficiency in a gltBD background, and a dominant gain-of-function mutation in argP was associated with suppression of these lysine inhibitory effects. Osmosensitivity in the gltBD strains, elicited either by lysine supplementation or by introduction of the argP or glnE mutations (but not proU mutations), was also correlated with a reduction in cytoplasmic glutamate pools in cultures grown at elevated osmolarity. We propose that an inability to accumulate intracellular glutamate at high osmolarity underlies the osmosensitive phenotype of both the argP gltBD and glnE gltBD mutants, the former because of a reduction in the capacity for NH4 + assimilation into glutamate and the latter because of increased channeling of glutamate into glutamine.

Resumen

Sungai Sambas merupakan suatu sungai yang bermuara di perairan Kabupaten Pemangkat Kalimantan Barat. Perairan tersebut mempunyai banyak peran terhadap aktivas jalur pelayaran dan pelabuhan kapal yang mempengaruhi kondisi dinamika perairan. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui pengaruh debit aliran sungai terhadap pola arus pasang surut di Muara Sungai Sambas. Kajian pemodelan pola arus terhadap pengaruh debit aliran sungai ini dilakukan menggunakan Surface Water Modeling System (SMS) pada modul Resources Management Associates-2 (RMA-2), software ini not free access sehingga dalam penelitian ini linsensi yang digunakan berupa uji coba (trial) dengan batas waktu dua minggu penggunaan. Simulasi model pola arus laut dilakukan dengan empat skenario yaitu debit aliran sungai 0 m3/s, 100 m3/s, 500 m3/s dan 900 m3/s. Hasil dari simulasi pada skenario dengan nilai debit aliran 0 m3/s pola arus yang terjadi di Sungai Sambas merupakan arus harmonik dimana pengaruh debit aliran sungai masih rendah. Pada skenario dengan debit aliran sungai 100 m3/s pergerakan pola arus minimum yang terjadi dua arah yaitu pergerakan arus pada hulu sungai dan di muara sungai sama dan bertemu pada satu titik di arus maksimum. Skenario dengan debit aliran yang lebih besar yaitu 500 m3/s dan 900 m3/s menunjukkan pola arus yang terjadi merupakan arus non-harmonik dimana pada saat arus maksimum dan minimum terjadi pergerakan pola arus yang sama yaitu dominan menuju muara sungai.

Background: This study aimed to compare phenotype–genotype correlation in patients with Usher syndrome (USH) to those with autosomal recessive retinitis pigmentosa (NS-ARRP) caused by genes associated with Usher syndrome. Methods: Case notes of patients with USH or NS-ARRP and a molecularly confirmed diagnosis in genes associated with Usher syndrome were reviewed. Phenotypic information, including the age of ocular symptoms, hearing impairment, visual acuity, Goldmann visual fields, fundus autofluorescence (FAF) imaging and spectral domain optical coherence tomography (OCT) imaging, was reviewed. The patients were divided into three genotype groups based on variant severity for genotype-phenotype correlations. Results: 39 patients with Usher syndrome and 33 patients with NS-ARRP and a molecular diagnosis in an Usher syndrome-related gene were identified. In the 39 patients diagnosed with Usher syndrome, a molecular diagnosis was confirmed as follows: USH2A (28), MYO7A (4), CDH23 (2), USH1C (2), GPR98/VLGR1 (2) and PCDH15 (1). All 33 patients with NS-ARRP had variants in USH2A. Further analysis was performed on the patients with USH2A variants. USH2A patients with syndromic features had an earlier mean age of symptom onset (17.9 vs. 31.7 years, p < 0.001), had more advanced changes on FAF imaging (p = 0.040) and were more likely to have cystoid macular oedema (p = 0.021) when compared to USH2A patients presenting with non-syndromic NS-ARRP. Self-reported late-onset hearing loss was identified in 33.3% of patients with NS-ARRP. Having a syndromic phenotype was associated with more severe USH2A variants (p < 0.001). Eighteen novel variants in genes associated with Usher syndrome were identified in this cohort. Conclusions: Patients with Usher syndrome, whatever the associated gene in this cohort, tended to have an earlier onset of retinal disease (other than GPR98/VLGR1) when compared to patients presenting with NS-ARRP. Analysis of genetic variants in USH2A, the commonest gene in our cohort, showed that patients with a more severe genotype were more likely to be diagnosed with USH compared to NS-ARRP. USH2A patients with syndromic features have an earlier onset of symptoms and more severe features on FAF and OCT imaging. However, a third of patients diagnosed with NS-ARRP developed later onset hearing loss. Eighteen novel variants in genes associated with Usher syndrome were identified in this cohort, thus expanding the genetic spectrum of known pathogenic variants. Il lavoro è stato suddiviso in tre macro-aree. Una prima riguardante un'analisi teorica di come funzionano le intrusioni, di quali software vengono utilizzati per compierle, e di come proteggersi (usando i dispositivi che in termine generico si possono riconoscere come i firewall). Una seconda macro-area che analizza un'intrusione avvenuta dall'esterno verso dei server sensibili di una rete LAN. Questa analisi viene condotta sui file catturati dalle due interfacce di rete configurate in modalità promiscua su una sonda presente nella LAN. Le interfacce sono due per potersi interfacciare a due segmenti di LAN aventi due maschere di sotto-rete differenti. L'attacco viene analizzato mediante vari software. Si può infatti definire una terza parte del lavoro, la parte dove vengono analizzati i file catturati dalle due interfacce con i software che prima si occupano di analizzare i dati di contenuto completo, come Wireshark, poi dei software che si occupano di analizzare i dati di sessione che sono stati trattati con Argus, e infine i dati di tipo statistico che sono stati trattati con Ntop. Il penultimo capitolo, quello prima delle conclusioni, invece tratta l'installazione di Nagios, e la sua configurazione per il monitoraggio attraverso plugin dello spazio di disco rimanente su una macchina agent remota, e sui servizi MySql e DNS. Ovviamente Nagios può essere configurato per monitorare ogni tipo di servizio offerto sulla rete.

Resumen

This study is aimed at exploring if “naloxone” is detected in urine and water samples by dipping buprenorphine/naloxone film directly into these specimens. This study utilized 12 urine samples from 12 healthy participants who were not taking any medications with four samples added as a control. Sublingual generic buprenorphine/naloxone (8 mg/2 mg) film was dipped directly into these samples. They were sent to the ARUP laboratory for gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC/MS) quantitative analysis. The results were analyzed using IBM SPSS Statistics software. The results showed that “naloxone” was detected at high levels both in urine samples and in water, into which buprenorphine/naloxone film was dipped. In addition, the “naloxone” level was associated with the area of the film and the time in contact with the urine or water samples, but it was not affected by the urine concentration or the temperature of the specimens. This information will be useful for clinicians in identifying urine manipulation and interpreting urine drug test results and can help them for accurate monitoring of their patients’ treatment progress in opioid use disorder (OUD) treatment programs.1

Resumen

<p>A common problem in steel bridges is fatigue of orthotropic decks due to heavy traffic demands. Whilst replacing the asphalt with a high strength concrete overlay can solve this problem, it imposes significant additional self-weight. This additional self-weight often requires strengthening of the superstructure which in turn can result in long execution times with associated hindrance and costs. As no existing method addressed these issues Arup engineers developed an innovative solution for Rijkswaterstaat (RWS), the Dutch Highways Authority. The new solution consists of bolting steel plates to the orthotropic steel deck, stiffening it for fatigue. Arup and RHDHV work in a joint venture, the Managing Contractor, on the renovation of steel bridges for and with RWS.</p>

Resumen

<p>Kaimai Tunnel is an 8.5km long KiwiRail tunnel on one of the busiest freight rail lines in NZ North Island. The concrete base slab that supports the track slab in the drill and blast section of the tunnel was cast on a fill layer rather than country rock. The fill layer has in places been washed out over time leaving voids under the base slab resulting in local track slab failures. Previous studies by others recommended major interventions or complete replacement of the track slab for the full tunnel length. This was considered impractical by KiwiRail due to the disruption to the network.</p><p>The first phase of the Arup study concluded that the trackslab could be retained subject to manageable remedial actions. A key component of this study was the interpretation that the existing paved concrete track (PaCT) and base slabs are acting as an unreinforced concrete element spanning between the side drains. Understanding the risk associated with this unintended and unusual structural form was critical in the development of the agreed remedial works. Concrete fatigue was one of the important factors investigated.</p>

<p>1 Triton Square is exemplary for how ingenious structural engineering can be instrumental in maximising the value of the existing building stock as part of a low-carbon agenda.</p><p>A commercial office development built in the late 1990s in the London West End, 1 Triton Square had been designed to height limits which were no longer relevant when the tenant vacated the premises at the end of a twenty-year lease. When the building owner approached Arup to examine the possibility of enhancing the value of their asset, it was decided, instead of designing a taller new build, to develop a refurbishment and extension scheme, in line with both organisations’ low-carbon agenda.</p><p>The proposed scheme included the part-infilling of existing atria and the addition of three new levels, thus increasing the number of storeys from six to nine, and the floor area by 70%. Columns and foundations had to be strengthened to cater for the resulting uplift in loading. The original structure was predominantly a concrete frame, with steel-framed cores. Due to this variety of structural forms as well as to access constraints, a palette of strengthening methods was implemented, including concrete encasement and fibre-reinforced polymer (FRP) wrapping for concrete columns, and concrete encasement and welding of strengthening plates for steel columns. Existing piled foundations were strengthened with small-diameter supplementary piles installed from within the existing basement and connected to them within new pile caps or within a new piled raft, depending on locations.</p><p>1 Triton Square has been completed in May 2021, achieving BREEAM Outstanding rating. The structural embodied carbon associated with the redeveloped scheme has been estimated at 136 kgCO2e/m2, to be compared to the October 2020 “best-practice” target of 350 kgCO2e/m2 for a new build, thus demonstrating the pivotal role of structural reuse in reducing carbon emissions.</p>

Resumen

This work deals with the prediction of noise generated by gas turbines, which includes engines being designed. One has in mind the fulfillment of the ever-increasing concerns with environment, in particular noise. Analytical and empirical methods have been focused by researchers and industry, although only empirical prediction methods are utilized in this work, for the calculation of the one-third octave band sound pressure levels associated to the main engine noise sources. The methodology for the calculation of the engine noise has been combined with performance and design computational programs to evaluate the noise emitted by each engine component and, by proper combination, the engine total noise. A newly designed and manufactured 5 kN/1.2 MW turbojet engine serves as the basis for the noise prediction. For the study, the main noise sources are: compressor, combustor, turbine and propelling nozzle. In terms of the overall sound pressure level, OASPL, are compatible with the noise produced by similar engines. The noise predictions are performed at engine design speeds in the range of 100% down to 70% of the design speed (28,150 rpm). The engine has not run yet, but it is expected that measured noise will be available in the near future. However, it is important to emphasize that all prediction models used to evaluate the radiated noise from the engine were validated. The engine operating conditions were calculated using a high fidelity engine simulator developed to provide the data used in this study. The methods to estimate the one-third octave band sound pressure levels are reported in NASA TM-195480, SAE ARP-876D, NASA-ANOPP and ESDU Item 98019. No atmospheric attenuation and ground reflection were considered in this work.
