Over the course of Shakespeare’s career, plays written for the commercial theatre were increasingly being published and read as literary works. This thesis examines the relationship between pedagogy and print in early modern England. I argue that while print held great educational opportunities, it also presented intense pedagogical challenges. In the eddic poem Hávamál, the god Óðinn gives advice, including a warning about the fickleness of human, and divine, nature.
