Resumen
Purpose – Logisticians in the worldwide industry are frequently faced with the problem of measuring the total cost of holding inventories with simple and easy-to-use methodologies. The purpose of this paper is to look at the problem, and in particular illustrate the inventory holding cost rate computation, when different kind of warehousing systems are applied. Design/methodology/approach – A multiple case study analysis is here developed and supported by a methodological framework directly derived from the working group discussions and brainstorming activities. Two different field of application are considered: one related to five companies with manual warehousing systems operating with traditional fork lift trucks; the other is among five companies operating with automated storage/retrieval systems (AS/RS) to store inventories. Findings – The multi-case study helps to understand how the holding cost parameter is currently computed by industrial managers and how much the difference between manual and automated/automatic warehousing systems impacts on the inventory cost structure definition. The insights from the ten case studies provide evidence that the kind of storage system adopted inside the factory can impact on the holding cost rate computation and permit to derive important considerations. Practical implications – The final aim of this work is to help industrial engineers and logisticians in correctly understanding the inventory costs involved in their systems and their cost structure. In addition, the multi-case analysis leads to considerations, to be applied in different industrial contexts. As other industrial applications are identified, they may be analyzed by using the presented methodology, and with aid from the data from this paper. Originality/value – The relevance of this work is to help industrial engineers and logisticians in understanding correctly the inventory costs involved in their logistics systems and their cost structure. In addition, the multi-case analysis lead to interesting final considerations, easily to be applied in different industrial contexts. As other industrial applications are identified, they may be analyzed by using the methodology and extrapolating the data from this paper.

Resumen
The main purpose of the study was to investigate the effect of physical distribution management on organizational performance by Rutungu Distributors Ltd, Kampala (U). The study assessed the relationship between order processing and organizational performance in Rutungu Distributors Ltd in an attempt to establish the relationship between storage and organizational performance in the organization. It also sought to find out the relationship between other aspects of inventory management on organizational performance within the company. The research used a case study design approach which was correlational considering both quantitative and qualitative approaches in the data collection, presentation, and analysis. The population of the study was several categories of employees of the company. Findings from the study depicted that there is a positive significant relationship between order processing and organizational performance implying that when a customer submits an order, it is verified to ensure the necessary information is included and processed promptly. Storage and organizational performance; this means that the company can reduce damage through good materials handling. There was a positive significant relationship between inventory control and organizational performance as a result of heavy investment in inventory control practices and procedures. There was also a positive significant relationship between transportation and organizational performance showing that the company has an effective automated transportation system, observes well-coordinated fleet management practices, and also has a good vehicle maintenance policy. The study thus recommends the company to continue reducing the time it takes to get an order to a customer’s premises and to replenish its stores as it is what every company desires, but while faster fulfilment and small order sizes make customers, and store managers happy, faster fulfilment comes at a cost.

Resumen
The MIDAS system is an automated supply chain management system that enables customers, manufacturers, and suppliers to cooperate over the Internet. MIDAS aims to achieve high customer satisfaction by supporting the build-to-order customization model and to reduce inventory carrying costs and logistics administration costs at the manufacturer by supporting the just-in-time manufacturing model. It allows a manufacturer to choose from the MIDAS Registry, suppliers of components, and negotiate based on the prices, availability, and delivery times of those components. The manufacturer can use one of several strategies to aggregate customers’ orders before processing them, and one of several strategies to accumulate suppliers’ quotes before deciding on a particular supplier. The paper presents an evaluation of these strategies in terms of the customer’s satisfaction, as measured by the customer response time, and the manufacturer’s gain, as measured by the number of orders aggregated or the best price ratio.

The California State University, Northridge (CSUN) Oviatt Library was the first library in the world to integrate an automated storage and retrieval system (AS/RS) into its operations. The AS/RS continues to provide efficient space management for the library. However, added value has been identified in materials security and inventory as well as customer service. The concept of library as space, paired with improved services and efficiencies, has resulted in the AS/RS becoming a critical component of library operations and future strategy. Staffing, service, and security opportunities paired with support and maintenance challenges, enable the library to provide a unique critique and assessment of an AS/RS.

Resumen
It is widely accepted that firms can achieve effective inventory management with the right strategies. This study analyzed the inventory control strategies of small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Jamaica. The objectives of the study were to identify whether these companies used the “best practices” in inventory control, the effects of their strategies on business performance, and the factors that affected the development of their strategies. The study employed a methods triangulation approach that included case studies, interviews, questionnaires, and observation with a focus on twelve inventory-intensive SMEs in retail and manufacturing/distribution industries. The SMEs were found to use common inventory control strategies such as stock counts, Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems, forecasting, and inventory classification. The findings of this study support institutional theory and isomorphism because it was discovered that due to external influences, firms studied within the same industry adopted similar strategies, and even in different industries, the ‘best practices’ in inventory control were the same. The drivers of this isomorphic organizational behavior were found to be costs, government regulations, and imitation of successful strategies in other companies. The SMEs surveyed were classified as semi-automated due to limited automation and confirmed success in their inventory management. The study validates the existence of institutionalism among SMEs in the retail as well as manufacturing/distribution industries in Jamaica. A broader scope examining larger firms and other industries would further identify isomorphic organizational behavior across the Jamaican business landscape. For future research, an investigation of financial performance and changes and adoption of new inventory control strategies of Jamaican SMEs is recommended to achieve a broad view of inventory management on the financial performance of Jamaican SMEs.

Resumen
The paper covers the application of Radio Frequency IDentification (RFID) technology in road traffic management with regard to vehicle identification. Various infrastructure configurations for Automated Vehicle Identification (AVI) have been presented, including configurations that can be used in urban traffic as part of the Smart City concept. In order to describe the behavior of multiple identifications of moving vehicles, an operation model of the dynamic identification using RFID is described. While it extends the definition of the correct work zone, this paper introduces the concept of dividing the zone into sections corresponding to so-called inventory rounds. The system state is described using a set of matrices in which unread, read, and lost transponders are recorded in subsequent rounds and sections. A simplified algorithm of the dynamic object identification system was also proposed. The results of the simulations and lab experiments show that the efficiency of mobile object identification is conditioned by the parameters of the communication protocol, the speed of movement, and the number of objects.

Resumen
Abstract The ubiquitous nature of inventory and its reliance on a reliable decision support system (DSS) is crucial for ensuring continuous availability of goods. The DSS needs to be designed in a manner that enables it to highlight its present status. Further, the DSS should be able to provide indications about subtle and large-scale variations that are likely to occur in the supply chain within the context of the decision-making framework and inventory management. However, while dealing with the parameters of the system, it is observed that its operations and mechanisms are surrounded by uncertain, imprecise, and vague environments. Fuzzy-based approaches are best suited for such situations; however, these require assistance from learning systems like artificial neural network (ANN) to facilitate automated decision support. When ANN and fuzzy are combined, the fuzzy neural system and the neuro-fuzzy system (NFS) are formulated. The model of the DSS reported here is based on a framework commonly known as adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS), which is a version of NFS. The configured model has the advantages of both the ANN and fuzzy systems, and has been tested for the design of a DSS for use as part of inventory control. In this work, we report the design of an ANFIS-based DSS configured to work as DSS for inventory management. The system accepts demand as input and generates procurement, ordering, and holding cost to control production and supply. The system deals with a certain profitability rating required to quantify the changes in the input and is combined with the day-to-day inventory records and demand-available cycle. The effectiveness of the system has been checked in terms of number and types of membership used, accuracy generated, and computational efficiency accounted by the computation cycles required.

When banks replenish the cash held in automated teller machines (ATMs) it is crucial for them to reduce operational costs while maintaining service level. This article studies the replenishment planning for recycling ATMs, which allow cash deposits to be made as well as withdrawals. The problem is formulated as a special (s, S) inventory model with two safety stocks corresponding to out-of-stock and full-of-stock risks, based on which the ATMs to be replenished each day and the replenishment amount are determined. Experiments with real data show that the model can significantly reduce costs and improve the overall service level.

Resumen
Collection of plant inventory (i.e., count, grade, plant size, yield) data is time-consuming, costly, and can be inaccurate. In response to increasing labor costs and shortages, there is an increased need for the adoption of more automated technologies by the nursery industry. Growers, small and large, are beginning to adopt technologies (e.g., plant spacing robots) that automate or augment certain operations, but greater strides must be taken to integrate next-generation technologies into these challenging unstructured agricultural environments. The main objective of this work is to demonstrate merging specific ground and aerial-based technologies (Radio Frequency Identification (RFID), and small Unmanned Aircraft System (sUAS)) into a holistic systems approach to address the specific need of moving toward automated on-demand plant inventory. This preliminary work focuses on evaluating different RFID tags with respect to their distance and orientation to the RFID reader. Fourteen different RFID tags, five distances (1.5 m, 3.0 m, 4.5 m, 6.0 m, and 7.6 m), and four tag orientations (the front of the tag (UP), back of the tag (DN), tag at sideways left (SL), and tag at sideways right (SR)) were assessed. Results showed that the tag upward orientation resulted in the highest scanning total for both the laboratory and field experiments. Two orientations (UP and SR) had significant effect on the scan total of tags. The distance between the reader and the tags at 1.5 m and 6.0 m did not significantly affect the scanning efficiency of the RFID system in horizontally fixed (p-value > 0.05) position regardless of tags. Different tag designs also produced different scan totals. Overall, since most of the tags were scanned at least once (except for Tag 6F), it is a very promising technology for use in nursery inventory data acquisition. This work will create a unique inventory system for agriculture where locations of plants or animals will not present a barrier as the system can easily be mounted on a drone. Although these experiments are focused on inventory in plant nurseries, results for this work has potential for inventory management in other agricultural sectors.

Resumen
AbstractThe diffusion of laboratory automation, initiated nearly 50 years ago with consolidation of preanalytical, clinical chemistry and immunochemistry workstations, is now also gradually embracing mass spectrometry (MS). As for other diagnostic disciplines, the automation of MS carries many advantages, such as efficient personnel management (i.e. improving working atmosphere by decreasing manual activities, lowering health risks, simplifying staff training), better organization (i.e. reducing workloads, improving inventory handling, increasing analytical process standardization) and the possibility to reduce the number of platforms. The development and integration of different technologies into automated MS analyzers will also generate technical and practical advantages, such as prepackaged and ready-to-use reagents, automated dispensing, incubation and measurement, automated sample processing (e.g. system fit for many models of laboratory automation, bar code readers), multiplex testing, automatic data processing, also including quality control assessment, and automated validation/interpretation (e.g. autoverification). A new generation of preanalytical workstations, which can be directly connected to MS systems, will allow the automation of manual extraction and elimination of time-consuming activities, such as tube labeling and capping/decapping. The use of automated liquid-handling platform for pipetting samples, along with addition of internal standards, may then enable the optimization of some steps of extraction and protein precipitation, thus decreasing turnaround time and increasing throughput in MS testing. Therefore, this focused review is aimed at providing a brief update on the importance of consolidation and integration of MS platforms in laboratory automation.

Resumen
PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to investigate the perceptions that managers have of the value and reliability of using big data to make hotel revenue management and pricing decisions.Design/methodology/approachA three-stage iterative thematic analysis technique based on the approaches of Braun and Clarke (2006) and Nowell et al. (2017) and using different research instruments to collect and analyse qualitative data at each stage was used to develop an explanatory framework.FindingsWhilst big data-driven automated revenue systems are technically capable of making pricing and inventory decisions without user input, the findings here show that the reality is that managers still interact with every stage of the revenue and pricing process from data collection to the implementation of price changes. They believe that their personal insights are as valid as big data in increasing the reliability of the decision-making process. This is driven primarily by a lack of trust on the behalf of managers in the ability of the big data systems to understand and interpret local market and customer dynamics.Practical implicationsThe less a manager believes in the ability of those systems to interpret these data, the more they perceive gut instinct to increase the reliability of their decision making and the less they conduct an analysis of the statistical data provided by the systems. This provides a clear message that there appears to be a need for automated revenue systems to be flexible enough for managers to import the local data, information and knowledge that they believe leads to revenue growth.Originality/valueThere is currently little research explicitly investigating the role of big data in decision making within hotel revenue management and certainly even less focussing on decision making at property level and the perceptions of managers of the value of big data in increasing the reliability of revenue and pricing decision making.

Resumen
This study has investigated the attitude of hospital pharmacists toward the introduction of automated techniques in the delivery of pharmaceutical services in three Nigerian Teaching Hospitals. The results obtained from this survey showed that pharmacists have a good understanding of the various forms of automated techniques in pharmacy operations. The general perception showed that these techniques will impact positively on different aspects of the pharmacists' functions including routine dispensing, drug inventory management, and administrative tasks. Computerization of the appropriate database and ease of accessibility including an online communication network within the health system would ease the pharmacists' administrative functions. The respondents felt that their pharmaceutical care functions would be enhanced greatly as the routine manual tasks are taken care of with the automation. In particular, the pharmacists' time would be released for a close monitoring of patient drug therapy and provision of drug information services. The general consensus was that appropriate training workshops and continuing pharmacy education programs would provide practicing pharmacists with the required skill to manage automated pharmacy systems.

Resumen
Pedestrian infrastructure that is comfortable, connected to destinations of interest, and accessible to those with disabilities is vital to a safe, accessible, equitable, and sustainable transportation system. Planners recognize the benefits of providing well-maintained sidewalks and curb ramps, but often lack the asset management systems necessary to inventory sidewalk maintenance problems, prioritize sidewalk maintenance needs, and track the implementation of sidewalk improvement projects. Communities that are managing sidewalk presence and condition data typically link the data to their roadway network, which makes tracking specific sidewalk assets difficult. This paper introduces an affordable, semi-automated, and easy-to-implement process to generate a GIS-based sidewalk network with associated links and nodes representing crosswalks and intersections. Quantitative sidewalk condition data can be loaded onto the network, which allows it to be used to manage sidewalks as transportation assets, assessing pedestrian accessibility, prioritizing repairs or improvements, and to automatically identify accessible routes between origins and destinations. System inputs include parcel-level land-use and roadway centerline data, both of which are publicly available and free in most cases. The network is generated within the ArcGIS environment, using Python scripts to implement embedded ArcGIS functions. The method requires few computational resources, and tremendously reduces the manual labor required to develop a fully interconnected sidewalk network. Examples from multiple communities are presented to show how quantitative sidewalk condition data are loaded onto the network, and illustrate the network’s potential for pedestrian navigation and routing applications.

Resumen
In this article, the authors mainly investigate the dynamic performance of VMI-APIOBPCS (Vendor Manage Inventory-Automatic Pipeline Inventory and Order Based Production Control System) in the apparel industry. With the increasing importance of supply chain system integration, VMI-APIOBPCS can integrate various kinds of elements in the real operation, which is proved to be very effective in solving complex problems. Apparel supply chains have relatively more complicated dynamic behaviors because of the factors like volatile demand, the strong seasonality of sales and the large number of items with short life cycle or lacking historical data. In order to clear these behaviors, and come up with new ideas to solve present difficulties, the authors apply classic control theory to build up the model of VMI-APIOBPCS in apparel supply chain. They then analyze the dynamic performance of apparel supply chain and use Routh-Hurwitz Stability Criterion to analyze the stability on the expectation that the outcomes of our research can be useful in the practical occasions.

The city management is increasingly supported by information technologies, leading to paradigms such as smart cities, where decision-makers, companies and citizens are continuously interconnected. 3D modelling turns of great relevance when the city has to be managed making use of geospatial databases or Geographic Information Systems. On the other hand, laser scanning technology has experienced a significant growth in the last years, and particularly, terrestrial mobile laser scanning platforms are being more and more used with inventory purposes in both cities and road environments. Consequently, large datasets are available to produce the geometric basis for the city model; however, this data is not directly exploitable by management systems constraining the implementation of the technology for such applications. <br><br> This paper presents a new algorithm for the automatic detection of zebra crossing. The algorithm is divided in three main steps: road segmentation (based on a PCA analysis of the points contained in each cycle of collected by a mobile laser system), rasterization (conversion of the point cloud to a raster image coloured as a function of intensity data), and zebra crossing detection (using the Hough Transform and logical constrains for line classification). After evaluating different datasets collected in three cities located in Northwest Spain (comprising 25 strips with 30 visible zebra crossings) a completeness of 83% was achieved.

Resumen
Monitoring the structure parameters and damage to trees plays an important role in forest management. Remote-sensing data collected by an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) provides valuable resources to improve the efficiency of decision making. In this work, we propose an approach to enhance algorithms for species classification and assessment of the vital status of forest stands by using automated individual tree crowns delineation (ITCD). The approach can be potentially used for inventory and identifying the health status of trees in regional-scale forest areas. The proposed ITCD algorithm goes through three stages: preprocessing (contrast enhancement), crown segmentation based on wavelet transformation and morphological operations, and boundaries detection. The performance of the ITCD algorithm was demonstrated for different test plots containing homogeneous and complex structured forest stands. For typical scenes, the crown contouring accuracy is about 95%. The pixel-by-pixel classification is based on the ensemble supervised classification method error correcting output codes with the Gaussian kernel support vector machine chosen as a binary learner. We demonstrated that pixel-by-pixel species classification of multi-spectral images can be performed with a total error of about 1%, which is significantly less than by processing RGB images. The advantage of the proposed approach lies in the combined processing of multispectral and RGB photo images.

PurposeThis paper aims to identify customer behavior with regard to out‐of‐stocks (OOS) of perishable products (focused on bakery bread) and the resulting inventory performance for these perishable products.Design/methodology/approachInsights on how consumers behave when their preferred bread product is OOS are derived based on 3,800 customer interviews performed in three stores of a large Dutch grocery retail chain. Next to this, additional logistical information was measured on regular moments with respect to the shelf availability per stock‐keeping unit during the day and to waste at the end of the day.FindingsThe customer behavior with regard to perishables is observed to be different from that for the non‐perishable items. The key observation is that customers have a high willingness to substitute. The incorporation of the obtained knowledge of the observed consumer buying behavior into the existing automated store ordering (ASO) systems is discussed. In the current ASO systems, no distinction is made between perishable and non‐perishable products, as it is primarily designed and used for the non‐perishables. The authors show that the current ASO can be enriched and extended by taking into account some extra crucial parameters which are based on the observed consumer behavior.Originality/valueOne common factor in the research papers published so far is that they primarily looked into the customer behavior for non‐perishable items. The current paper on‐hand extends these works towards perishable items with a focus on bakery bread.

Resumen
Enterprise Information Technology Systems are major corporate assets upon which corporate management and operations are heavily dependent. Current accounting standards for the treatment of these assets have not kept pace with advances in technology, such as models for creating and evolving IT. Capitalizable costs according to the standards are principally primary development costs and exclude system evolution. This weakness of the standards creates a disproportionate downward bias in the book value of software and in current earnings, as costs incurred for on-going systems evolution is five to twenty times the costs incurred for first release. We present a quantitative valuation model for IT systems based upon engineering measurements of software that allow the fair value of software to be based on all costs incurred by the system. Costs are collected by an automatic tool and stored in an inventory system of enterprise software assets. To total costs is added the effect of each individual module's relative significance to the enterprise. The model also provides a systematic algorithm for software amortization, based on the decrease in its usability.

Resumen
Batch process control is typically used for repeated chemical reaction tasks. It starts with a measured liquid material filling operations followed by a controlled reaction leading to the discharge or transport of processed quantities of material. The input materials is contained in vessel reactor and subjected to a sequence of processing activities over a recipe predefined duration of time. Batch systems are designed to measure, process, and discharge a varying volume of liquid from drums, tanks, reactors, or other large storage vessel using a programmable logic controller (PLC). These systems are common in pharmaceutical, chemical packaging, Beverage processing, personal care product, biotech manufacturing, dairy processing, soap manufacturing, and food processing industries. This paper briefly discusses the fundamental techniques used in specifying, designing, and implementing a PLC batch process control [1, 2]. A simplified batch process is used to illustrate key issues in designing and implementing such systems. In addition to the structured PLC ladder design; more focus is given to safety requirements, redundancy, interlocking, input data validation, and safe operation. The Allen Bradley (AB) SLC 500 PLC along with the LogixPro simulator are used to illustrate the concepts discussed in this paper. Two pumps are used to bring in material during the tank filling and a third pump is used to drain processed product. The three pumps are equipped with flow meters providing pulses proportional to the actual flow rate through the individual pipes. The tank material is heated to a predefined temperature duration followed by mixing for a set time before discharge. Batch control systems provides automated process controls, typically and universally using PLC’s networked to HMI’s and other data storage, analysis, and assessment computers. The overall system perform several tasks including recipe development and download, production scheduling, batch management and execution, equipment performance monitoring, inventory, production history and tracking functionalities. Flexible batch control systems are designed to accommodate smaller batches of products with greater requirements / recipes variation, efficiently and quickly. In addition to providing process consistency, continuous batch process control quality improvements are attained through the automatic collection and analysis of real-time reliable and accurate event performance data [3, 4].

Resumen
Object-oriented languages support many modern programming concepts such as information hiding, inheritance, polymorphism, and dynamic binding. As a result, software systems implemented in OO languages are in general more reusable and reliable than others. Many legacy software systems, created before OO programming became popular, need to be redesigned and updated to OO programs. The process of abstracting OO designs from the procedural source code has often been done with limited assistance from program structural diagrams. Most reengineering focuses on the functionality of the original program, and the OO redesign often results in a completely new design based on the designers' understanding of the original program. Such an approach is not sufficient because it may take a significant amount of time and effort for designers to comprehend the original program. This paper presents a computer-aided semi-automatic method that abstracts OO designs from the original procedural source code. More specifically, it is a method for OO redesign based on program structural diagrams, visualization, and execution slices. We conducted a case study by applying this method to an inventory management software system. Results indicate that our method can effectively and efficiently abstract an appropriate OO design out of the original C code. In addition, some of the code from the original system can be automatically identified and reused in the new OO system.

Resumen
Forest inventories play an important role in enabling informed decisions to be made for the management and conservation of forest resources; however, the process of collecting inventory information is laborious. Despite advancements in mapping technologies allowing forests to be digitized in finer granularity than ever before, it is still common for forest measurements to be collected using simple tools such as calipers, measuring tapes, and hypsometers. Dense understory vegetation and complex forest structures can present substantial challenges to point cloud processing tools, often leading to erroneous measurements, and making them of less utility in complex forests. To address this challenge, this research demonstrates an effective deep learning approach for semantically segmenting high-resolution forest point clouds from multiple different sensing systems in diverse forest conditions. Seven diverse point cloud datasets were manually segmented to train and evaluate this model, resulting in per-class segmentation accuracies of Terrain: 95.92%, Vegetation: 96.02%, Coarse Woody Debris: 54.98%, and Stem: 96.09%. By exploiting the segmented point cloud, we also present a method of extracting a Digital Terrain Model (DTM) from such segmented point clouds. This approach was applied to a set of six point clouds that were made publicly available as part of a benchmarking study to evaluate the DTM performance. The mean DTM error was 0.04 m relative to the reference with 99.9% completeness. These approaches serve as useful steps toward a fully automated and reliable measurement extraction tool, agnostic to the sensing technology used or the complexity of the forest, provided that the point cloud has sufficient coverage and accuracy. Ongoing work will see these models incorporated into a fully automated forest measurement tool for the extraction of structural metrics for applications in forestry, conservation, and research.

Resumen
With the technological advances in the areas of Machine-To-Machine (M2M) and Device-To-Device (D2D) communication, various smart computing devices now integrate a set of multimedia sensors such as accelerometers, barometers, cameras, fingerprint sensors, gestures, iris scanners, etc., to infer the environmental status. These devices are generally identified using radio-frequency identification (RFID) to transfer the collected data to other local or remote objects over a geographical location. To enable automatic data collection and transition, a valid RFID embedded object is highly recommended. It is used to authorize the devices at various communication phases. In smart application devices, RFID-based authentication is enabled to provide short-range operation. On the other hand, it does not require the communication device to be in line-of-sight to gain server access like bar-code systems. However, in existing authentication schemes, an adversary may capture private user data to create a forgery problem. Also, another issue is the high computation cost. Thus, several studies have addressed the usage of context-aware authentication schemes for multimedia device management systems. The security objective is to determine the user authenticity in order to withhold the eavesdropping and tracing. Lately, RFID has played a significant for the context-aware sensor management systems (CASMS) as it can reduce the complexity of the sensor systems, it can be available in access control, sensor monitoring, real time inventory and security-aware management systems. Lately, this technology has opened up its wings for CASMS, where the challenging issues are tag-anonymity, mutual authentication and untraceability. Thus, this paper proposes a secure hash-based RFID mechanism for CASMS. This proposed protocol is based on the hash operation with the synchronized secret session-key to withstand any attacks, such as desynchronization, replay and man-in-the-middle. Importantly, the security and performance analysis proves that the proposed hash-based protocol achieves better security and performance efficiencies than other related schemes. From the simulation results, it is observed that the proposed scheme is secure, robust and less expensive while achieving better communication metrics such as packet delivery ratio, end-to-end delay and throughput rate.

Resumen
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to capture the dynamic variations in sales of a product based upon the dynamic estimation of the time series data and propose a model that imitates the price discounting and promotion strategy for a product category in a retail organization. Design/methodology/approach Time series data relating to sales has been used to model the sales estimates using moving average and proportional and derivative control; thereafter a sales forecast is generated to estimate the sales of a particular product category. This provides valuable inputs for taking lot sizing decisions regarding procurement of the products and selection of suppliers. A hybrid model has been proposed and explained with a hypothetical case, which considerably impacts the sales promotion and intelligent pricing decisions. Findings A conceptual framework is developed for modeling the dynamic price discounting strategy in retail using fuzzy logic. The model imitates sales promotion and price discounting strategy. This has helped minimize the inventory cost thereby keeping the profitability of the retail organization intact. Research limitations/implications There is no appropriate empirical data to verify the models. In light of the research approach (modeling based upon historical time series data of a particular product category) that was undertaken, there is a possibility that the research results may be valid for the product category that was selected. Therefore, the researchers are advised to test the proposed propositions further for other product categories. Originality/value The study provides valuable insight on how to use the real-time sales data for designing a dynamic automated model for product sales promotion and price discounting strategy using fuzzy logic for a retail organization.

Resumen
In accordance with international obligations in the context of the Global Plan of Action for the Conservation of Biodiversity in Animals in Ukraine, separate articles of the Law "On Tribal Livestock" and a number of by-laws are directed. The scientific institutions of the system of the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences of Ukraine developed the theoretical bases and components of the strategy of conservation of biodiversity of domestic livestock, based on which the analysis of the dynamics of populations of the main types of farm animals, assessment of the level of risk of disappearance of rocks with the development of methods for their conservation in situ and ex situ. The purpose of the research is to highlight the individual elements of the strategy of preserving the breeding diversity of farm animals in Ukraine, including the inventory of non- numerous breeds, the assessment of the possibility of their reproduction at the expense of biological material of cryobanks, and the development of the main components of the information system of biodiversity of farm animals in accordance with international requirements. Material and methods of research. The status of domestic local breeds of farm animals in the breeding subjects in livestock farming is determined by the inventory of herds, as well as data from the State Register of Registry for 2011 and 2015. The presence of sperm of breeders of various breeds and species that can be used to reproduce endangered populations is confirmed by data from the Bank of Animal Genetic Resources at the Bank of Genetic Resources of the Institute of Animal Breeding and Genetics nd. a. М.V.Zubets of NAAS. Monitoring of the status of local domestic breeds of cattle, pigs, horses and sheep in the breeding subjects in the livestock sector of Ukraine for the period of 2011-2015 has shown the instability of the condition in the gene pool herds for reducing the stock population in most of them. Positive dynamics is observed only in the white-headed Ukrainian breed of dairy cattle, where the number of cows increased by 110 goals from 2011 to 2015. During the aforementioned period, breeders of cattle of gray Ukrainian breed (2 farms), brown Carpathian breed (1 farm) and Swan breed (3 farms), pigs of Mirgorod breed (4 farms), Ukrainian steppe white Breeds (3 farms), sheep of the Ukrainian mountain-Carpathian breed (6 farms) and Sokolsk breed (2 farms), hutsul breed horses (3 farms), which led to a decrease in the total number of these breeds, including mat OK. The number of heads of Hutsul breed of horses was reduced to 50 heads, the bright sokilskoy breed of sheep – up to 150 heads, and the sow of Ukrainian steppe pigeon breed – up to 29 heads. Such a number of breeding stock in the above- mentioned breeds has passed the minimum permissible limit for the existence of a population that for horses is 70 mothers, 200 sheep and 200 mothers and 100 mothers. Cows of brown Carpathian breed in subjects of tribal affairs in livestock breeding have not become at all. Undoubtedly, breeds, if desired, can be revived and expanded by the abundance of both natural and artificial reproduction methods. For this purpose, the Bank of Genetic Resources of the Institute of Animal Breeding and Genetics nd. a. М.V.Zubets of NAAS has created a sufficient supply of semen from the pedigree in a deeply cooled state, and in farms, for certain species of animals, there are still viviparous. Moreover, if sheep breeding and pig breeding by means of artificial insemination can restore one or two lines, then cattle breeding opportunities are considerably larger given the presence of semen in the institute's cryobank. In the system of animal genetic resources management, along with inventory and certification, the definition of breeds necessary for conservation, the development of genetic monitoring systems, the choice of conservation methods, the creation of a network of gene pool farms, kriobank, etc., specially places the establishment and operation of an information system that would be With the global network and ensured the availability of information. Taking into account that its development should start with the establishment in Ukraine of the institution (the main information and selection center of animal husbandry), which would be subordinated to the Ministry of Agrarian Policy of Ukraine and was engaged in the development of methodology and improvement of the current normative base in the field of livestock, and also performed the following functions: accumulation of primary information about animals kept in controlled farms; verification of information on the origin of animals; determination of breeding value of animals and formation of information on the results of animal assessment; formation and maintenance of the registration system of The automated information center of the center should be in close cooperation with the Unified State Register of Animals, as well as databases of automated information systems used by animal owners to conduct breeding records in the holdings of animals through the exchange files of the established format. The automated system includes information resource (pedigree data, animal evaluation results, statistical and analytical information), as well as software and hardware complex and telecommunication network, for use of which will be conducted: automated collection of data on breeding animals and storage of these data; automated assessment of breeding animals and storage of the results of such assessment; generate reports and access to data on breeding animals and the results of their evaluation by authorized users of this Processed information on the automated system will be obtained by animal owners, breeding centers, breed associations, state authorities, actors engaged in animal trade, etc. The automated information system, or rather its individual components, is being tested at the network of research facilities of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, which maintains cattle of dairy and meat production areas. As a result of the development of an automated breeding system in dairy and beef cattle breeding, it will be harmonized for other livestock sectors, which will ultimately enable the creation of a national livestock breeding information system that meets international standards and protects the state from a number of negative consequences. Conclusions. In order to form a domestic system of breeding and preservation of biodiversity of domestic breeds in the process of livestock production, it is necessary to create a centralized automated informational system from tribal affairs that would meet international standards. The first steps in the formation of the information system in livestock are the establishment of an establishment (the creation of the main information and selection center for livestock industry), the development or adjustment of the regulatory framework in the field of livestock, the creation of a database of animals, animal testing and the formation of massifs of information that will be received by the interested Individuals and organizations.

Resumen
Individual tree crown detection and morphological parameter estimation can be used to quantify the social, ecological, and landscape value of urban trees, which play increasingly important roles in densely built cities. In this study, a novel architecture based on deep learning was developed to automatically detect tree crowns and estimate crown sizes and tree heights from a set of red-green-blue (RGB) images. The feasibility of the architecture was verified based on high-resolution unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) images using a neural network called FPN-Faster R-CNN, which is a unified network combining a feature pyramid network (FPN) and a faster region-based convolutional neural network (Faster R-CNN). Among more than 400 tree crowns, including 213 crowns of Ginkgo biloba, in 7 complex test scenes, 174 ginkgo tree crowns were correctly identified, yielding a recall level of 0.82. The precision and F -score were 0.96 and 0.88, respectively. The mean absolute error (MAE) and mean absolute percentage error (MAPE) of crown width estimation were 0.37 m and 8.71%, respectively. The MAE and MAPE of tree height estimation were 0.68 m and 7.33%, respectively. The results showed that the architecture is practical and can be applied to many complex urban scenes to meet the needs of urban green space inventory management.

Resumen
Abstract. During the last decade, operational monitoring and forecasting systems have been developed in all the European seas. The exchange of data and products and the development of services for a wide community of users pose some fundamental issues, whose solution has become a priority in integrated and GMES referring projects, such as the MERSEA European project. These projects aim to develop a European system for operational monitoring and forecasting on global and regional scales of ocean physics, bio-chemistry and ecosystems. GMES system and its operational projects need to federate resources and expertise coming from diverse organizations working on different Earth Sciences fields (e.g. satellite data processing, in situ observing systems, data management, ocean and ecosystem modeling, etc.). Therefore, it is required a Marine Information Management (MIM) system capable of facilitating the regular real-time exchange of high quality information, data and products. Moreover, MIM system must provide appropriate information for a wide range of external users both in real-time and delayed mode. In this paper an architecture based on the OPeNDAP/THREDDS technology is proposed as a solution for these operational systems. In this context, a catalog merging solution is introduced for the MIM system, which results in the design and development of the THREDDS Dataset Merger (TDM): a set of services meant to merge THREDDS Dataset Inventory Catalogs, so to achieve a unique catalog service for a whole database federation. TDM service merges distributed and autonomous THREDDS catalogs in order to work out a virtual merged catalog. The TDM service was extended in order to provide automatic catalogs synchronization. This service allows extending the pull-based TDM paradigm to support push-based applications. Some security issues are also considered.

Resumen
Accurate forest parameters are essential for forest inventory. Traditionally, parameters such as diameter at breast height (DBH) and total height are measured in the field by level gauges and hypsometers. However, field inventories are usually based on sample plots, which, despite providing valuable and necessary information, are laborious, expensive, and spatially limited. Most of the work developed for remote measurement of DBH has used terrestrial laser scanning (TLS), which has high density point clouds, being an advantage for the accurate forest inventory. However, TLS still has a spatial limitation to application because it needs to be manually carried to reach the area of interest, requires sometimes challenging field access, and often requires a field team. UAV-borne (unmanned aerial vehicle) lidar has great potential to measure DBH as it provides much higher density point cloud data as compared to aircraft-borne systems. Here, we explore the potential of a UAV-lidar system (GatorEye) to measure individual-tree DBH and total height using an automatic approach in an integrated crop-livestock-forest system with seminal forest plantations of Eucalyptus benthamii. A total of 63 trees were georeferenced and had their DBH and total height measured in the field. In the high-density (>1400 points per meter squared) UAV-lidar point cloud, we applied algorithms (usually used for TLS) for individual tree detection and direct measurement of tree height and DBH. The correlation coefficients (r) between the field-observed and UAV lidar-derived measurements were 0.77 and 0.91 for DBH and total tree height, respectively. The corresponding root mean square errors (RMSE) were 11.3% and 7.9%, respectively. UAV-lidar systems have the potential for measuring relatively broad-scale (thousands of hectares) forest plantations, reducing field effort, and providing an important tool to aid decision making for efficient forest management. We recommend that this potential be explored in other tree plantations and forest environments.

Resumen
Creating an industrial safety management system for enterprises requires the development and application of a set of mechanisms that ensure the prevention of accidents and incidents. Risk management systems are one of the most effective mechanisms for industrial safety. However, very little attention has been paid to automation of risk management. This article is devoted to the formation of the conceptual framework for creating automated risk management systems for industrial enterprises with hazardous production facilities. The paper analyzes the structural and logical scheme of risk management. It is shown that one of the most “risk-bearing” components of hazardous production facilities are technical devices. At the same time, the maximum level of automation is possible for technical devices in relation to their maintenance, repair, and risk management tasks. Analysis of the tasks related to risk management shows their complexity and diversity. The solution of these problems is possible through the use of modern information technologies. At the same time, it is necessary to create a unified database of hazardous production facilities, a comprehensive database of regulatory, technical and legal information, automation of risk modeling and analysis of control processes, and decision-making and implementation of processes that minimize risks. At the same time, the maximum level of automation is possible for technical devices in relation to their maintenance, repair, and risk management tasks.

Resumen
Keeping inventories adequately maintained to meet the demands of future sales or uses in business enterprises determines the extent of business’s success. Hence, a successful inventory management is necessary, in particular, guided by the formulating of deterministic, stochastic, and probabilistic models. This essentially describes optimal inventory policies in terms of when and how to replenish the inventory. In this paper, we discuss several basic considerations used in determining inventory models that address the needs of current manufacturing and business enterprises. Theories and essentials supported by the novel approaches are integrated to reflect the representation of many actual situations. Multi-product and multi-facility models are given additional consideration at the end.
