Resumen
For the next decade, the future of the automotive industry lies in BRIC’ countries. Together, Brazil, Russia, India, and China will account for some 30 percent of world auto sales in 2014 while also offering significant opportunities for cost-effective R&D, sourcing, and manufacturing. The authors analyze the degree of localization of leading TNC and supplies in each BRIC country, for each function, compare localization across BRIC countries, assess the future development of these markets, compare local capabilities and resources, and identify particularly promising combinations of functions and countries. Key trends in developing countries include continuing liberalization and globalization, increased foreign investment and ownership, and the increasing importance of follow-source and follow-design forces. The article concerns the trends and factors of national automotive industry formation in BRIC countries. Special emphasis is made on localization of R&D activities, final assembly operations and components production by global automotive companies in BRIC countries. It systemizes the factors of investment opportunities of different developing markets. It is concluded that active state regulation is playing the principle role in localization and catching-up process in automotive industry in developing countries. The comparison of the automotive industry in BRIC countries allows shedding light on the economic processes of emergence at large. There is a stark contrast in the capacities of development of the sector in these countries. This contrast serves as an analyzer between the modes of sector opening and the paths of technological catching-up that is the core of the phenomenon of emergence. The analysis and best practices presented in the topic, while focusing on the BRIC countries, are applicable also to other rapidly developing economies.

Banking and financial collapse of late 2008 extremely heavily hit the automotive industry in most countries. In 2009, the production of cars in the world dropped to 57 million units compared to 68 million in 2007. At the same time, recent statistics show that the industry is rapidly recovering from the worst crisis in its history. In the 1st quarter of 2010 car production in the world increased by 57% compared to the same period of 2009. In China, Canada, Mexico and Great Britain it increased by more than 70%. Volkswagen, Ford Motor Company and FIAT announced major investment plans, particularly in China and Latin America. Accordingly, it is expected that in 2010 the global car production will grow to 70 million units, and to 88 million by 2016, 40% of all sales will be in the Asia-Pacific region. Reduction of the automotive industry in Russia turned out to be deeper than anywhere else – 49% in 2009 against the previous year's level. For comparison: in the United States reduction amounted to 21%, in Spain – to18, in Japan – to10, in the UK – to 6.4, in Italy – to 0.2; while in China the production grew by 44%. Nevertheless, the Russian automotive industry is also showing signs of recovery, primarily because of the governmental program of recycling old cars.

Industrial research as a source of technological innovation has acquired a central role in companies in the 1980s. Large manufacturing companies have been developing research systems made of structures co-ordinated with and complementary to one another, in an effort to achieve a rapid and proper flow of innovation. This paper discusses the research system of the Fiat Group, with special attention being paid to the inter-disciplinary, integrated research project developed by the Fiat Research Centre in co-operation with the ‘Progetto Finalizzato Trasporti’ drawn up by Consiglio Nazionale delle Richerche (CNR). Such a project implies the design and development of a research car aimed at becoming a reference for future projects for the energy saving cars to be produced in the 1990s.

The world industry is on a threshold of a new development cycle which is characterized by emergence of breakthrough technologies: distributed ledger technology, drone-type devices, 3D printing, virtual reality, Internet of things, augmented reality etc. Due to these technologies fundamental changes will take place in the majority of economic branches. The automotive industry is not an exception. This industry plays one of the key roles in economy in a great number of countries and changes occurring in it lead not only to creation of new products, technical processes but these changes also entail improvement of the industrial base which has been already created. The Republic of Belarus considers an automotive industry as one of key industries for its economy and its efficiency has a high dependency factor pertaining to speed of innovation emergence and implementation that is strategically important aspect of increase in competitiveness both on current sales markets and on potential ones. The paper pays a special attention to two main trends arising in the course of forming a new industrialization: increase in environmentally-friendly fuel systems and digital transformation. Problems of world ecology have exerted a considerable impact on developments in the field of alternative energy sources. Speed of development and promotion of electric vehicles considerably exceed “breakthrough” innovation developments of the past. However a great number of factors can have a significant effect on the future of electric vehicles and two of them are thoroughly considered in the paper: cost of energy (batteries) and price of oil (at the price of about 20 USD for barrel the development rate will considerably decrease). Besides the matter of environmental friendliness the paper pays attention to services of digital transformation. The world has already presented examples pertaining to usage of remote control for dump trucks, telematics etc. Such an approach makes it possible for organizations to optimize substantially an expenditure budget and doing so we increase resource use efficiency. The paper also contains a review of innovations in the automotive industry of the Republic of Belarus: BelGee electric cars, Belkommunmash electrobuses, developments of large industrial equipment.

Increasing use is being made of plastics and reinforced reaction injection moulded polymers for large and complex automotive parts. Polyurea RIM materials have become established in this market by fulfilling necessary technical and thermal resistance requirements - and by enabling dependable and consistent production of parts to be achieved at the rates required by industry. ICI has developed a range of polyurea systems capable of providing particularly high temperature and corrosion resistance and high impact strength. These systems may be processed on existing high-throughput RIM equipment, using relatively low clamping pressures. But machinery manufacturers are already extending their ranges with higher output dispensing units, more automated controls and gas nucleation of the chemical components. Because of their toughness at demould and excellent self-release character¬istics, RIM polyureas permit markedly shorter cycling on sophisticated automated lines. The addition of robotised part demoulding makes it possible to reduce overall cycle times to less than one minute. Polyurea RIM systems have progressed particularly rapidly over the past two years. A major car producer in Europe has already approved and commenced production with a RIMline® polyurea bumper system from ICI. Today's fast-reacting, self-releasing polyurea systems are not only suitable for fully auto¬mated production, but also offer the potential for on-line painting. The trend to decreasing production volumes as a consequence of greater model differentia¬tion will contribute to the economic competitiveness of polyurea for external body panel production.

As manufactured vehicles have become more global, the competitive pressures from multi-national companies have increased substantially. Based on that, it is clearly shows that, the important of understanding the implementation of green indicators concept. Hence, the principal aim of this paper is to highlight the establishment of Green Design concept for Malaysia automotive industry by establishing a set of ‘Critical Success Factors’ that will be applied at the design stage. Survey methodology was employed to collect data. Data were obtained from 104 automotives companies and related suppliers in Malaysia with 29% response rate. This paper presents findings of Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) results on green design concept for Malaysia automotive industry.

Resumen
The development of a specific industry could enhance a countrys economic growth by facilitating its global positioning. Some industries may require government support to enable meaningful economic contribution. The South African government provided support to its automotive industry via the Motor Industry Development Programme (MIDP) since 1995. The MIDP ended in 2012, and is being replaced by the Automotive Production and Development Programme (APDP) from 2013. The APDP will extend support to the South African automotive industry until 2020. The motivation for the extension is to continue providing support to South Africas automotive industry in its attempt to become a sustainable global competitor with reduced reliance on government support. This article analyses the opinions of relevant stakeholders on the anticipated performance of the South African automotive industry under the APDP. It was motivated by the fact that there is currently no research available on the anticipated performance of the South African automotive industry under the APDP. It also highlights the link between stakeholders opinions and the documented performance of the MIDP as well as the design of the APDPs policy instruments. Data was gathered by using a survey that was distributed to relevant stakeholders in the South African automotive industry. The results show that where there is policy uncertainty, the perceived risk impacts the opinions of relevant stakeholders. Consequently, there is much uncertainty among participating stakeholders regarding the APDPs ability to satisfy policy objectives. The majority of stakeholders agreed that the APDP is a World Trade Organization compliant programme and that it will facilitate increased research and development spend. However, there are reservations about the possible negative impact of the APDPs policy instruments on the South African automotive industrys exports as well as the future of the local automotive components industry. It is therefore recommended that governments should ensure that policy design is transparent and is finalised and communicated early enough to afford relevant stakeholders sufficient time to respond appropriately.

The title of the following research is “Research of the German automotive industry”. The German automotive industry and its well-being and growth is a key sector of the German economy. Therefore it is of importance to analyse this industry. The aim of this research is to provide an analysis of the German automotive industry and its growth. The tasks to achieve the set aim are as follows: turnover, production of motor vehicles and passenger and the strategy of internalization of the German automotive industry. The primary methods used in this research are: logically constructive method, analysis, descriptive method, document study and descriptive statistical methods. Based on these methods the turnover, production of motor vehicles and passenger and the strategy of internalization of the German automotive industry is analysed. This research shows that the German automotive industry constitutes a growth industry between 2005 and 2015. Furthermore, it shows the importance of the strategy of internalization of the German automotive industry for its growth: the two-pillar strategy which consists of production on site an export. Due to the fact that the export numbers are stagnating on a high level in recent years the future focus of the German automotive industry should be set on the production abroad.

In connection with the above, the analysis of the literature and the Clarivate Analytics report, State of Innovation Report 2017: The Relentless Desire to Advance and The condition of the automotive industry and its role in the Polish economy, KPMG report in Poland at the initiative of the Polish Automotive Industry Association. The study also presents an overview of the definitions and types of innovations, in the aspect of subsectors and their impact on the development of the automotive industry. There are presented considerations regarding the type and degree in which enterprises implement innovative solutions that take place in the processes occurring on production lines as well as in the components themselves. In recent years, when technological progress has gained enormous pace, the right management of innovations has a significant impact on the future of the organization. It allows to strengthen the position of the company on the market, and often to gain a significant competitive advantage The article was prepared on the basis of literature analysis and statistical data.

Abstract This paper investigates the extent to which foreign direct investment (FDI) influenced intra-industry trade (IIT) in automotive products in six New EU Member States (the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Romania, Slovakia and Slovenia) in the 1995–2014 period. Changes in IIT intensity are analysed using the Grubel-Lloyd indices. To examine the IIT pattern, IIT indices are divided into two types of trade: IIT in vertically differentiated products (low and high quality VIIT) and IIT in horizontally differentiated products (HIIT). The research indicates that IIT in automotive products allowed manufacturers and consumers from the new EU Member States to benefit more from international trade. FDI inflow to the automotive sector of the NMS has been a key factor shaping IIT in automotive products.

Introduction. The automotive industry is an integral and strategically important part of the national economy. Today, in Ukraine, the mechanism of state regulation of development of the automotive industry includes a wide range of legal, administrative, economic and social-psychological methods that potentially have significant effectiveness in stimulating the development of the automotive industry. In practice, domestic automakers are actually left alone by the government with their problems. The purpose of the paper is development of basic postulates, identification of potential advantages and disadvantages of the harmonization approach to state regulation of development of the automotive industry. Results. The basic postulates of the harmonization approach to the state regulation of development of the automotive industry are stated in the article on the example of formation of the state strategy of development of the automotive industry on the basis of harmonization with state strategic imperatives and strategies of development of the automotive enterprises. The application of the harmonization approach to the state regulation of development of the automotive industry allows to form a state strategy, taking into account the strategy of development of the automotive enterprises. Also, the separation of the priority directions of the state strategy for the development of the automotive industry from the national strategic imperatives promotes the harmonization and, thus, the synergization of the legal framework. Restrictions on the application of the harmonization approach to the state regulation of development of the automotive industry are: a small number of subjects of the automotive complex; the ordinariness of problems and obstacles to the development of the automotive enterprises; risks of lobbying the interests of some automakers and abuse of state support by automotive enterprises. Conclusion. In view of the fact that the application of the harmonization approach can distort the competitive environment in the automobile market in view of the strengthening of the state protectionism of the domestic automakers, it is recommended that the mandatory limitation in time and systematically control the implementation of state strategies for the development of the automotive industry. The prospect of further research is the development of organizational and information support for the application of the harmonization approach to the state regulation of development of the automotive industry.

It is no exaggeration to say that the digital transformation can be seen as both a paradigm shifts and a real technological revolution (Perez, 2010, Mergel, et al., 2019). In order to get to know the preparedness of the Hungarian automotive industry players in the topic, we conducted an empirical research in October - December 2020. The main goal was to determine the level of automotive actors in the digital transformation process. Company leaders were primarily asked about their progress in the digital transition process, its opportunities and challenges, organizational culture, and potential human resource management responses. This study focuses on the digital transition concentrating on the following dimensions: strategy and leadership, human resources, business processes, supply chain, manufacturing, products and services. Based on the results, we classified the examined Hungarian automotive industry actors into clusters.

The article summarises the advanced world experience in government regulation of the automotive industry using the example of the leading automotive manufacturing countries – China, Japan, India, South Korea, the USA, and the European Union. Leading approach to the study of this problem is the comparative method that has afforded revealing peculiarities of the primary measures applied by governments of the world to regulate the automotive industry have been identified. A unified model for government regulation of the automotive industry has been elaborated. The presented model contains a set of measures for government support for the automotive industry depending on the life cycle stage (inception, growth, stabilisation, top position, stagnation, decline, crisis) of the automotive industry and the level (high, medium, low) of competitiveness of automotive enterprises.

Resumen
An important part of domestic machine-building sector is the automotive industry represented mainly by car, truck and bus manufacturing. It is hardly a secret nowadays that the Ukrainian automotive industry is facing tough times, thus failing to withstand strong competition from foreign car manufacturers. In this context, as never before, the issue to enhance the government support of domestic automakers is of a critical importance. It is expected that the implementation of government strategy for automotive industry development will have different effects at discrete automotive companies subject to their different competitiveness level. Hence, there is a need to conduct a research on developing a methodological toolkit for the automotive company competitiveness evaluation. The research objective is to construct a methodological framework to assess automotive manufacturers’ competitiveness in the context of building the government strategy to enhance the automotive industry development. The study has employed the following methods: a monographic method and the method of theoretical generalization to identify the most widely used methodological approaches to company competitiveness assessment; a method of analysis and synthesis for elaborating a methodology to assess the automotive industry competitiveness in the context of building the government strategy for automotive industry development. Based on the combination of integral and matrix approaches, an evaluation framework to estimate the automotive company competitiveness has been designed. The method suggested, in contrast to other techniques described in academic literature, allows for the identification of car manufacturers competitiveness by integral indices values along with revealing the stages of their life cycle. The synthesis of the results of automakers competitiveness estimation and identification of the stages in their life cycle laid the foundation for the construction of the automotive industry development matrix which in turn is the basis for tailoring of government strategy to enhance the automotive industry development. Working out a set of methodological tools to evaluate the competitiveness of the automotive industry contributes to further development of methodical framework of government regulation in terms of facilitating the automotive industry competitiveness towards its focus differentiation, thus increasing the managerial effectiveness.
