Resumen
In this paper, I address the problem of auxiliary selection in Standard Italian and in Southern Italo-Romance varieties. In the former, the auxiliary depends on the argument structure, in the latter on the person feature of the subject. However, the features of the arguments play a crucial role even in languages where auxiliary selection is argument structure- driven. Therefore, I propose that auxiliary selection is the result of person Agree in both systems. Cross-linguistic variation is due to a single syntactic parameter (the ordering of the features on Perf) and to different inventories of vocabulary entries. In this contribution, I focus on Italo-Romance varieties, in particular on person-driven systems and on so-called mixed systems. I show that the apparently very different systems of auxiliary selection in Standard Italian and in Italo-Romance varieties are more similar than it seems: not only auxiliary selection in Italian is Agree for the person feature, but also many alleged person-driven varieties are indeed argument-structure-based systems.

Resumen
The variation of the two past tense auxiliaries (HAVE and BE) is a well-studied phenomenon in European languages, especially in the West Germanic varieties. So far, however, the situation in Eastern Yiddish has not been examined. This paper focuses on auxiliary selection in these Yiddish dialects based on data from the Language and Culture Archive of Ashkenazic Jewry, which were collected in the 1960s. Like most of the current works on this topic, the following analysis uses and discusses Sorace’s (1993, 2000) Auxiliary Selection Hierarchy, which allows to examine the Yiddish structures in light of historical and diatopic evidence from other Germanic varieties, particularly German and Dutch. The main focus is on intransitive verbs that show a high degree of variation—state verbs, controlled and uncontrolled motional process verbs, and change-of-state verbs. However, the Auxiliary Selection Hierarchy also has weaknesses, as is demonstrated in the following.*

Resumen
Shannon (1990) argues that the notions of lexical aspect (Aktionsart) and transitivity are a central part of perfect auxiliary variation. This paper builds on Shannon's (1993, 1995) analyses of perfect auxiliary selection in German and other related languages. Shannon accounts for perfect auxiliary variation by means of prototypes for high transitivity and high mutativity as well as the notion of Aktionsart. This paper examines the transitivity/mutativity parameters and the concept of Aktionsart using the examples of perfect auxiliary + past participle found in the Old Saxon Heliand. An examination of some 150 examples reveals that the choice of auxiliary can be explained by Aktionsart and a definition of transitivity that is characterized by conceptual imagery.

The present study presents the issue of auxiliary selection in English and Romanian, aiming to underline the specificities of the two languages, and contrast them in terms of differences and similarities as regards auxiliary selection. We analyse the restrictions in the selection of the progressive/imperfective and perfective aspects (that is, the auxiliaries have or be) with different semantic classes of verbs (states, processes, activities) in English, and the difference of selection for perfective and imperfective in Romanian by contrast with the English selection. Furthermore, the present paper also illustrates the differences in auxiliary passive selection between Romanian and English.

Resumen
Statistical inference is considered for variables of interest, called primary variables, when auxiliary variables are observed along with the primary variables. We consider the setting of incomplete data analysis, where some primary variables are not observed. Utilizing a parametric model of joint distribution of primary and auxiliary variables, it is possible to improve the estimation of parametric model for the primary variables when the auxiliary variables are closely related to the primary variables. However, the estimation accuracy reduces when the auxiliary variables are irrelevant to the primary variables. For selecting useful auxiliary variables, we formulate the problem as model selection, and propose an information criterion for predicting primary variables by leveraging auxiliary variables. The proposed information criterion is an asymptotically unbiased estimator of the Kullback–Leibler divergence for complete data of primary variables under some reasonable conditions. We also clarify an asymptotic equivalence between the proposed information criterion and a variant of leave-one-out cross validation. Performance of our method is demonstrated via a simulation study and a real data example.

This article presents a comprehensive description of auxiliary selection in Catalan. Specifically, after explaining how the phenomenon worked in Old Catalan, we show what are the factors (such as the event/argument structure or the grammatical person, among others) that determine the use of be and have in those Catalan varieties that, although with some innovations, retain this distinction: (i) Algherese Catalan, (ii) Northern Catalan and some varieties of Central Catalan, (iii) Ribagorçan Catalan, and (iv) Balearic Catalan. Likewise, we show a series of theoretical considerations that we believe relevant for the analysis of the patterns of variation found in Catalan and, by extension, in Romance.

Resumen
For the first time, systematic research of auxiliary selection in Italian is proposed using corpus analysis and natural language processing (NLP). By combining these methods, we seek to find the most significant factors that influence the choice of auxiliary in intransitive verbs with double auxiliation. These verbs have often been studied in the literature (e.g., peripheral verbs [Sorace 2000]), but they have never been addressed in a comprehensive way (Giancarli 2015). The findings emphasize the most significant factors influencing the choice of ‘be’ or ‘have’ based on semantic, syntactic, and morphological aspects. On the basis of corpus analysis and statistical tools (CHAID and Random Forest) evidence, we propose the internal cause and the human trait as the possible factors useful in untangling the knot of auxiliary selection within Italian verbs with double auxiliation. This article also presents a reflection on semi-auxiliary verbs, a particular group of Italian verbs that operate as semi-auxiliary by being followed by an infinitive. For this group of verbs, we propose that auxiliary selection depends not only on the semantics of the verb or of the subject, but mainly on the auxiliary selection of the infinitive.

Resumen
Old Spanish had a split auxiliary system in the perfect tense, reminiscent of what is found in Modern French and Modern Italian. In this paper, I trace the progress of the displacement of ser ‘be’ by haber ‘have’ with intransitive and reflexive verbs in the history of Spanish. The data support the hypothesis that predicates that have a more patient-like subject are the last ones to lose their ability to select ser, regardless of their syntactic or morphological make-up. This analysis, I argue, adds to the mounting evidence in favor of a universal semantic account of split intransitivity.

Resumen
The use of be as an auxiliary verb with intransitive verbs has declined in all the Romance languages over the past five centuries. Today, Spanish and Portuguese use only have, in Catalan and Romanian be occurs in marginal contexts, and in French, be is used with approximately 40 verbs. Italian is a notable exception, since be is still used as the auxiliary of nearly 300 intransitive verbs, as well as with all transitives in the passive and with all reflexives. This well-known fact is a notorious source of difficulty for language teachers and students, partly because there have been few adequate descriptions or even taxonomies of the semantic classes of intransitive verbs which take be. This paper reports an attempt to describe the selection of auxiliary verbs in Italian in terms of contemporary dictionaries of Italian. The paper offers a description of auxiliary selection based on the Auxiliary Selection Hierarchy proposed by Sorace (2000), using some recent monolingual dictionaries as sources. This raises some issues about the use of dictionaries as source material for grammatical descriptions.

Resumen
In this paper we discuss a change in the auxiliary selectional pattern of Brazilian Venetan, a heritage Italo-Romance variety spoken in southern Brazil. Venetan varieties display a default form of the past participle in constructions with postverbal subjects and a fully agreeing form in constructions with preverbal subjects: this is true both for the homeland varieties of the language, spoken in northern Italy, as well as for the heritage variety under analysis in this paper, spoken in southern Brazil. A crucial difference emerges in unaccusative constructions: while Italian Venetan uses the same form of the auxiliary BE in presence of preverbal and postverbal subjects, Brazilian Venetan uses a specialized form of the auxiliary in the constructions with default agreement on the past participle, when postverbal subjects are present. We argue that the specialized auxiliary form emerges as a necessary resumption in the case of lack of agreement. The heritage variety becomes, therefore, morphosyntactically more complex than the non-heritage counterpart.

Resumen
This paper provides an examination and analysis of two roughly synonymous aspectual markers in Korean, pelita and malta, that developed from the transitive verbs ‘throw away’ and ‘stop’, respectively. Based on electronic corpora, it is shown that these markers are distributed divergently: malta is strongly preferred to pelita in passive, non-volitional and resistant contexts. The divergent distributions of pelita and malta can be more clearly understood in terms of transitivity. I propose that the transitivity difference of their lexical sources is reflected in constraints on their grammaticalisation and contemporary uses. The low vs. high transitivity of the lexical verbs malta and pelita has persisted in grammaticalisation and brought about differences between their grammaticalised forms. This paper suggests that the gradient notion of transitivity can be used as an explanatory principle that generalises differences between synonymous grammatical words that developed from different lexical verbs.

Resumen
Model-assisted estimators have gained significant attention due to their ability to efficiently utilize auxiliary information during the estimation process. These estimators rely on a working model that links the survey variable to the auxiliary variables, which is then fitted to the sample data to generate predictions. These predictions are subsequently integrated into the estimation procedures. In this study, were explores various model-assisted estimators including Generalized Regression (GREG), Ridge regression, Lasso regression, CART (Classification and Regression Tree), Random Forest, Cubist and Principal Components Regression (PCR) estimator. The analysis involved 2,000 samples of size 50 (n/N ≈ 10%) and employed a stepwise variable selection method to determine the most significant auxiliary variables, incrementally adding them to the model. The performance of these estimators was assessed using relative bias (RB), relative root mean square error (RRMSE) and relative efficiency (RE). Our findings reveal that tree-based models like CART and Random Forest and penalized regression estimators such as Ridge and Lasso display robustness with increased number of auxiliary variables. Among all the estimators, Random Forest consistently yielded the lowest RRMSE, particularly with five auxiliary variables, demonstrating superior efficiency. Conversely, the GREG estimator exhibited poor performance as the number of auxiliary variables increased. This study underscores the importance of selecting suitable model-assisted estimation procedures tailored to the data characteristics and the relationship between survey and auxiliary variables within this high-dimensional dataset.

Resumen
This study presents auxiliary support techniques for tree selection strategies based on the spatial structure indices and three competition indices in secondary forests, and discusses the importance of tree competition in forest management. The spatial structure parameter in the structured management is used as a quantitative index—the uniform angle index and three competition indices are used in the design of the algorithm for selective thinning for secondary forest. Based on the target tree-based management principles, simulation of selective thinning was carried out using GIS and C# programming languages. Data for this study were collected from experimental sample plots at Jilin Wangqing Forestry Bureau in China. The simulation results strongly support the use of auxiliary technology for scientifically selecting trees for thinning, avoiding the subjectivity of the traditional manual selection. Selection is largely based on the uniform angle index and competition index. Hegyi’s competition index and its improved version used in the algorithm provided almost identical simulation results, i.e., thinning intensities suggested by these indices for the first sample plot are 21.8% and 21.5%, respectively, and for the second plot are 21.3% and 21.1%, respectively. Thus, one of these competition indices can be used to select trees for thinning. The comprehensive competition index (CCI, a combination of an improved version of Hegyi’s competition index with tree species mingling) can avoid the selection of individual trees with high mingling and help maintain the tree species diversity. CCI suggests thinning intensities of 18.3% and 18.4% for the first and second sample plots, respectively. Presented methods and results may provide auxiliary supports for scientific thinning and help promote the application of information technology in forest management.

Resumen
Lead-acid batteries are the most frequently used energy storage facilities for the provision of a backup supply of DC auxiliary systems in substations and power plants due to their long service life and high reliability. It is possible to define the load in these systems, therefore the IEEE 485 Standard can be used for the selection of batteries according to the conventional method of selection. Special attention is paid in the paper to the technical selection of a lead-acid battery, which depends on its operational reliability that decreases with battery aging. It is defined by the extent of maintenance during its service life. A cost analysis was also carried out, which took into consideration maintenance and procurement costs, as well as the costs of the related air conditioning that keeps the prescribed temperature and ventilates the battery room. The impact is shown of selecting a lead-acid battery on the battery room’s operating safety when charging. The final selection of lead-acid battery is performed using an optimization algorithm of differential evolution. Using the optimization process, the new battery selection method includes the technical sizing criteria of the lead-acid battery, reliability of operation with maintenance, operational safety, and cost analysis. Two cases of selection of lead-acid batteries for the backup supply of a DC auxiliary system in a transmission substation are presented in the paper, where the input data were determined based on measurements in an existing substation. A comparison is made between the existing conventional and new lead-acid battery selection method based on optimization.

The aim of this paper is to investigate the properties associated with unaccusativity and the selection of auxiliary verbs (AUX) in the perfect tenses of the modern Romance languages. The modern languages that have a split-AUX system (such as Italian and French) operate under a principle in which some intransitive verbs select the equivalent of to be as their AUX in the compound past tenses, and others select the equivalent of to have. In research I have conducted over the past decade in the Italian language classroom, Bentley and Eythórsson’s auxiliary selection hierarchy (ASH) is best suited to explain how L2 Italian learners acquire the ability to make the appropriate surface AUX selection.

Resumen
With the advancement of digital streaming technology, multi-modal recommendation systems have gained significant attention. Current graph-based multi-modal recommendation approaches typically model user interests using either user interaction signals or multi-modal item information derived from heterogeneous graphs. Although methods based on graph convolutional networks (GCNs) have achieved notable success, they still face two key limitations: (1) the narrow interpretation of interaction information, leading to incomplete modeling of user behavior, and (2) a lack of fine-grained collaboration between user behavior and multi-modal information. To address these issues, we propose a novel method by decomposing interaction information into two distinct signal pathways, referred to as a dual-path selection architecture, named Dual-path Selective Graph Recommender (DSGRec). DSGRec is designed to deliver more accurate and personalized recommendations by facilitating the positive collaboration of interactive data and multi-modal information. To further enhance the represetation of these signals, we introduce two key components: (1) behavior-aware multimodal signal augmentation, which extract rich multimodal semantic information; and (b) hypergraph-guided cooperative signal enhancement, which captures hybrid global information. Our model learns dual-path selection signals via a primary module and introduces two auxiliary modules to adjust these signals. We introduce independent contrastive learning tasks for the auxiliary signals, enabling DSGRec to explore the mechanisms behind feature embeddings from different perspectives. This approach ensures that each auxiliary module aligns with the user-item interaction view independently, calibrating its contribution based on historical interactions. Extensive experiments conducted on three benchmark datasets demonstrate the superiority of DSGRec over several state-of-the-art recommendation baselines, highlighting the effectiveness of our method.

In this study, two auxiliary collectors (methyl naphthalene and naphthalene) of molybdenite and the traditional collector (kerosene) were mixed for molybdenite flotation, respectively. According to the selection and analysis of the auxiliary collector, it was found that the surface energy (γC= 44.50 mJ/m2) of the polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons is very close to that (γS= 42.55 mJ/m2) of the molybdenite {100} surface. Therefore, it can be physically adsorbed onto the molybdenite {100} surface according to the principle of similar compatibility. Batch flotation was conducted on actual ore with the mixed collector, compared with kerosene alone. Batch flotation results showed that the mixed collector at a mass ratio of 95:5 of main collector to auxiliary collector at pH 11.0 improved molybdenite flotation, that is, the Mo recovery was increased by 3–4%. The practical application feasibility of the auxiliary collector was analyzed by the filtration speed of the flotation concentrate and the crystal resolution characteristics of the auxiliary collector. The results show that solid naphthalene (Nap) is easy to crystallize at low temperature and adhere to the surface of the flotation concentrate, resulting in a decrease of filtration velocity, while liquid methylnaphthalene (MNap) does not crystallize at low temperature. These results imply that the mixed collector Kerosene/MNap can generate a superior synergistic effect and achieve better collecting capacity than kerosene alone, resulting in the increase of flotation recovery by 3–4 percentage points. Moreover, the addition of MNap has little negative impact on the subsequent treatment of the product.

<p>Currently, in power plants, the application of the extinction coil in high voltage auxiliary power system neutral point is less experienced. A research done on nuclear power plant and conventional fossil fuel power plant proved that using an auxiliary power system’s different characteristics was leading to different demands of the grounding modes. Thus, this research was done by selecting the grounding mode of high voltage auxiliary power system neutral point on the main nuclear power plants and the partial fossil fuel power plants together with the calculation of practical engineering, and optimal design schemes. The high voltage auxiliary power system neutral point grounding modes have been induced in the large-scale into the nuclear power plant and the conventional fossil fuel power plant. Methods in determining the neutral point grounding modes are used by analyzing the principles commonly used grounding modes and requirements of related codes. First, choose the suitable grounding mode according to the calculation result of capacitive current. Then, choose more conducive grounding mode to the operation of power plant according to the operation of technology equipment. The power is required from the configuration, connection of auxiliary power and the cut from the accident of auxiliary power. As some power plants which are under-construction will be putting into operation one after another, the whole set of perfect security arrangements and operating experiences will also be accumulated inevitably. As a conclusion, high voltage auxiliary power system neutral point grounding modes directly affect the running of the auxiliary power system and even affect the security of the nuclear safety and the operation of the power plant. Resumen
Abstract We propose a transformation-based approach for estimating quantiles using auxiliary information. The proposed estimators can be easily implemented using a regression estimator. We show that the proposed estimators are consistent and asymptotically unbiased. The main advantage of the proposed estimators is their simplicity. Despite the fact the proposed estimators are not necessarily more efficient than their competitors, they offer a good compromise between accuracy and simplicity. They can be used under single and multistage sampling designs with unequal selection probabilities. A simulation study supports our finding and shows that the proposed estimators are robust and of an acceptable accuracy compared to alternative estimators, which can be more computationally intensive.

Resumen
In sample surveys weighting is applied to data to increase the quality of estimates. Data weighting can be used for several purposes. Sample design weights can be used to adjust the differences in selection probabilities for non-self weighting sample designs. Sample design weights, adjusted for nonresponse and noncoverage through the sequential data weighting process. The unequal selection probability designs represented the complex sampling designs. Among many reasons of weighting, the most important reasons are weighting for unequal probability of selection, compensation for nonresponse, and post-stratification. Many highly efficient estimation methods in survey sampling require strong information about auxiliary variables, x. The most common estimation methods using auxiliary information in estimation stage are regression and ratio estimator. This paper proposes a sequential data weighting procedure for the estimators of combined ratio mean in complex sample surveys and general variance estimation for the population ratio mean. To illustrate the utility of the proposed estimator, Turkish Demographic and Health Survey 2003 real life data is used. It is shown that the use of auxiliary information on weights can considerably improve the efficiency of the estimates.

Resumen
Purpose. To improve selection methods of operation schedules as well as means of auxiliary transportation facilities involving adaptation of their parameters to the specific application environment while preparing new extraction pillars for coal mining. Methodology. The current methods for substantiating the operational parameters of the means of internal mine transport do not take into account the impact of mining-geological and technological factors, which change inadequately in space and time, on their productivity. The recommended method for selecting transport and technological schemes and increasing their adaptability in the real conditions of the mine environment is based on the comprehensive use of methods of expert evaluation of the operational indicators of the new generation of auxiliary transport means and modeling of the conditions of their interaction with arch support and side rocks at the stages of mining and their operation when preparing new mining pillars for cleaning mining. Findings. The expert evaluation concerning technological features of mining field preparation as well as assembling and dismantling operations has determined that for the specific conditions of Western Donbas mines, the suspended diesel monorail locomotive and self-propelled machines are the most promising options. Gear clutch rail diesel locomotives are recommended as the auxiliary transport for the accelerated preparation of extraction pillar and introduction of a longwall into operation. Originality. New approaches have been substantiated to improve selection of the efficient means of auxiliary transportation facilities and identify their operational parameters for the well-timed preparation of extraction pillars for their removal under the intensified underground mining conditions. A transportation schedule has been proposed to supply heavy tonnage loads by means of the suspended diesel rail locomotives as well as methods to calculate the expected loads on suspension members of the monorail road taking into consideration physico-mechanical characteristics of roof rocks within a development mine working. Practical value. It has been proved that under the conditions of the intensified mining operations, the recommended engineering solutions meet the requirements of the well-timed preparation of new extraction pillars. In addition, they are considered as a new tendency to improve current schemes of auxiliary transportation facilities for regional mines and provide operational reliability of the available underground transport equipment.

Resumen
Evaluating the safety level of work behaviors is an important means of safety management through safety managers’ manual visual or video surveillance. This paper aims to grasp the view selection rules of safety managers in correctly observing and analyzing work behavior, which are conducive to safety behavior assessment. Firstly, based on a similarity simulation experiment, the work process of the operators was simulated, and the process was simultaneously monitored from multiple views to obtain surveillance videos. Then, safety managers with different experience levels watched the videos and answered the questionnaire in a questionnaire survey experiment. The authors found the following: (1) Prior experience does not affect the view selection during the observation stage, but it does affect the view selection during the analysis stage. Experienced safety managers perform better in view selection when dealing with complex tasks. (2) The work postures have a significant effect on the view type and their combination order. (3) The view selection of experienced safety managers in the behavior observation and analysis stages is non-constant except for sitting posture operations, while the view selection of amateur managers is always constant. (4) Sitting posture work takes the front view as the main view and the left–right–upper views as auxiliary views; standing posture uses the left and right views as the main views and the front–back–upper views as auxiliary views; and mixed posture takes the left and right views as the main views and the upper–front–back views as auxiliary views. These view selection rules can achieve the highest evaluation performance. These findings can help train or select high-quality safety managers and provide a scientific basis for arranging views during video surveillance.

Resumen
AbstractThe present paper presents a multimodel inference approach to linguistic variation, expanding on prior work by Kuperman and Bresnan (2012). We argue that corpus data often present the analyst with high model selection uncertainty. This uncertainty is inevitable given that language is highly redundant: every feature is predictable from multiple other features. However, uncertainty involved in model selection is ignored by the standard method of selecting the single best model and inferring the effects of the predictors under the assumption that the best model is true. Multimodel inference avoids committing to a single model. Rather, we make predictions based on the entire set of plausible models, with contributions of models weighted by the models' predictive value. We argue that multimodel inference is superior to model selection for both the I-Language goal of inferring the mental grammars that generated the corpus, and the E-Language goal of predicting characteristics of future speech samples from the community represented by the corpus. Applying multimodel inference to the classic problem of English auxiliary contraction, we show that the choice between multimodel inference and model selection matters in practice: the best model may contain predictors that are not significant when the full set of plausible models is considered, and may omit predictors that are significant considering the full set of models. We also contribute to the study of English auxiliary contraction. We document the effects of priming, contextual predictability, and specific syntactic constructions and provide evidence against effects of phonological context.

Resumen
The main purpose of this paper is to provide experimental evidence that two syntactic reflexes of split intransitivity in German – the selection of perfective auxiliaries and the impersonal passive construction – are sensitive to an aspectual/thematic hierarchy of verb classes. We show that there is a split between ‘core’ verbs that elicit categorical intuitions from native speakers, and ‘intermediate’ verbs that exhibit gradience. Furthermore, crossdialectal differences between northern and southern German with respect to auxiliary selection tend to occur only with intermediate verbs. We argue that these findings lend support to the view that the unaccusative/unergative distinction is considerably more unstable than often assumed, and suggest that projectionist theories of the lexicon-syntax interface such as those directly derived from the Unaccusative Hypothesis may not be able to account for the systematic variation exhibited by the data.
