The innovation in the ceramic assemblage is accompanied by an innovative lithic tool set. The paper presents the results of a comprehensive study of well sections drilled on the coastal spits of the Taganrog Gulf of the Sea of Azov and bottom sediment columns selected in the water area. A detailed analysis of the early malacological communities, an important participant in the sedimentary process, made it possible to trace changes in their living conditions in the Holocene. Based on determining the absolute age (14C) from the valves of mollusk shells buried in situ, it is shown that at the beginning of the Phanagorian regression, in the area of the distal part of the Dolgaya Spit,

The study addresses the spatiotemporal variability of the wind wave frequency spectra in the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov. Using the WAVEWATCH III model, a database of the spectra for the period from 1983 to 2020 with a time step of 3 hours on an irregular high-resolution computational grid has been created. To describe the variability of the spectra, a classification system consisting of 23 classes differing in peak frequency and spectral density has been developed. Each spectrum in the database is assigned to one of the classes. It has been found out that the class with the lowest spectral

The catastrophic events in the Northern Black Sea, during the Permian-Triassic period, about 250 million years ago, allegedly occurred. Giant asteroid exploded (or just collapsed) when it entered the dense layers of the atmosphere, and its multifarious debris formed numerous circular structures on the Northern Black Sea during the fall. Abstract To study the nature of climate change in the hydrometeorological parameters of the Black and Azov Seas—surface air temperature (SAT), sea surface temperature (SST), ice cover, and sea level—under conditions of ongoing global warming, we used reanalyses and remote sensing data, as well as information from known publications of recent years. It was found that against an increase in SAT over the Black–Azov Sea region (+0.053°C/year in 1980–2020) and SST of the Black Sea (+0.052°C/year in 1982–2020), the values of these parameters in the 2000s differ significantly from those in the 1980s–

One of the forms of landscape space organization, a paradynamic landscape system, is considered by the example of the Azov Sea coast. It is based on the idea of the existence of a specific type of landscape systems formed on the border of contrast environments. In this case – on the border of land and water (coastal zone), in other cases – on the border between mountains and plains, highlands and lowlands, forest and deforested landscapes, etc. The existence of such systems is grounded on the functional principle and strength of contrast-based interrelations.
