Resumen
Introduction. Faulty posture is define as the syndrome of bad posture that we characterize as minimal, individual anomalies upon proper poise which are potentially curable with professional passive and active exercises. An im-portant function at develop posture anomalies has factors which induce to take improper silhouette. To the above factors mainly belong: bad posture while relaxation, wrong place to study or hefting overloaded packs. Aim. Depiction of common problem among children at school age which is exposure of faulty posture and specification of factors which produce faulty posture. Material and methods. In the thesis was used method of evaluation and diag-nostic survey method. With the object of execution the questionnaire surveys applied an anonymous and authorial questionnaire at the same time. A hundred of children at 11-14 age entered the survey. Based on data, computed BMI rate and the anthropometric parameters were evaluated according to centile grid. Results. A hundred of children entered the research (49% boys, 51% girls). 24% of children had diagnose of faulty posture namely 16 girls and 8 boys. Fallen arches was detected at 11 children, it is about 46% of people with bad posture, whereas none of children had knees valgus (0%). 38% of children who are active less than hour per day were diagnosed with faulty posture, whereas group of people with 1-2 hours daily physical activity had only 16,1% of chil-dren with faulty posture. On the other hand with students who spare over two hours on activity daily were not any fault. 87,5% of respondents with wrong BMI rate level suffer from bad posture. Children (66%), who do not respect right rules of carrying pack have diagnosed faulty posture. Conclusion. Every fourth child at research group has bad posture. The com-mon type of faulty posture is fallen arches, but the rarest is knee valgus. Low level of physical activity and wrong way of carrying pack significantly contrib-ute to develop faulty posture among school age children. Furthermore inade-quate result of BMI also has negative impact on body posture of child.

Resumen
<span>The posture monitoring system monitors the posture changes of the upper body and the spinal cord applying to ophthalmologists while operating the slit lamp. The motivation to the pursuit of this system is to relate posture changes while in a static sitting posture to the spinal deviation from the g-line. Often times, the spinal deviation from the g-line is classified as bad posture because of the shift in weight distribution on the spine causing pain and discomfort in certain areas of the spine. This paper presents the design concept, the development process and the working principle of the posture monitoring system using Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) sensor. The raw measurement data obtained from human trials is tabulated and converted into a graphical representation in which all postures can be identified and distinguished by referring the relative wave pattern. The procedure is important in the improvement on the posture monitoring system for the human trials on the ophthalmologist in future.</span>

Resumen
Abstract Introduction: In the new millennium, the medical community still deals with the treatment of idiopathic scoliosis as a three-dimensional (3D) curvature known in India before Hippocrates. However, we doctors that deal with deformities of the spine, stick to Reichalt's rule for treatment according to the size of the curvature and its progression. The aim of our study is to explain our own opinion for progression of bad posture in school children according to physical inactivity and use of video terminals (VT). Materials and methods: We have made some researches about standards of school screening for bad posture and its impact on morphological and functional changes in them. Results: Most of school children spend more than 2 hours in front of video terminals, they have increased body weight, and postural changes in sagittal plane. Discussion: Some postural bad positions in age of intensive growth can became structural. In the era of fast technology development the future generation shall have functional changes on body like result of long standing in bad position. Conclusion: The future studies for bad posture in school children should be aimed to find how much long sitting in front of VT can affect their health in the adult age.

Resumen
Bad sitting posture is harmful to human health. Intelligent sitting posture recognition algorithm can remind people to correct their sitting posture. In this paper, a sitting pressure image acquisition system was designed. With the system, we innovatively proposed a hip positioning algorithm based on hip templates. The average deviation of the algorithm for hip positioning is 1.306 pixels (the equivalent distance is 1.50 cm), and the proportion of the maximum positioning deviation less than three pixels is 94.1%. Statistics show that the algorithm works relatively well for different subjects. At the same time, the algorithm can not only effectively locate the hip position with a small rotation angle (0°–15°), but also has certain adaptability to the sitting posture with a medium rotation angle (15°–30°) or a large rotation angle (30°–45°). Using the hip positioning algorithm, the regional pressure values of the left hip, right hip and caudal vertebrae are effectively extracted as the features, and support vector machine (SVM) with polynomial kernel is used to classify the four types of sitting postures, with a classification accuracy of up to 89.6%.

Unbalance in postural changes can result from several factors. Alterations to the stomatognathic system, especially the dentofacial deformities (DFD), change significantly the head posture from individuals who present with this kind of deformity. Researches have shown body posture changes in children with mouth breathing; however, studies associating postural and respiratory conditions in adults with dentofacial deformities (DFD) were not done. This research aimed identify the main reasons of postural changes on young adults who present with DFD; verify if the respiratory pardon has influence in the head posture and of these individuals and evaluate if the orthognathic surgery modifies the breathing pardon and head posture. Two groups were analyzed, the DFD group, which was composed of 15 young adults, both genres, all of whom presented DFD, in orthodontic preparation for orthognathic surgery, and the Control Group (CG) which was composed of 10 young adults all presenting dentofacial harmony, paired regarding sex and age with the study group. Into the head posture analyzes, Biophogrammetry was used, which afforded angular measurements from photographs of the anterior and posterior views. Anteriorization, posteriorization, lateral inclination, flexion and extension of the head were also considered on it. The results were obtained with the agreement between two evaluators. The evaluations were done before the orthognathic surgery, and between three to six months after it. To compare the groups we used the independent and paired t-test, McNemar test, and Mann-Whitney test, whereas for correlation, the test used was the Spearman test. The respiratory function results related to before and after orthognathic surgery show that this procedure modified the breathing pattern, reaching statistical significance (p=0.024). In evaluation of the head posture pre-orthognathic surgery, the results obtained were similar between DFD individuals, considering inclination, anteriorization and posteriorization, however, in the group of individuals who present with skeletal malocclusion class II were found larger deviations of normality on the head flexion/extension pattern (p=0.036), comparing it with those in class III. The comparison between DFD and CG individuals, in the periods pre and post orthognathic-surgery demonstrated angular measures of anteriorization/posteriorization lower than the reference angle (90 degrees), meanwhile, there was no significant statistical difference among the groups. Comparing the DFD group and the CG results, regarding head inclination, a significant statistical difference was found in the post-surgical moment (p=0.022) as well in post-surgical (p=0.017). After the orthognathic surgery, the angles resulted from the head posture do not significantly differed from the ones obtained in the pre-surgical period, nonetheless, the angular measurements appeared under the normality to the head anteriorization/ posteriorization. There was a mild correlation between the breathing pattern and the head inclination in the pre-surgical moment (p=0.028). It is possible to conclude that the head posture of DFD individuals were similarly to ones in the CG toward the inclination, anteriorization and posterization aspects. Individuals who present with skeletal malocclusion class II showed larger deviations to the head flexion/extension compared with the ones in the Skeletal class III. In cases where the DFD was evaluated, the higher the head inclination presented by individuals, higher is the change in the breathing pattern. After surgery, a spontaneous increase in the breathing pattern was presented without a head posture change.

This study was carried out at the Language Resource Centres of the University of Strasbourg, which are set up to develop student autonomy in language learning as well as linguistic competence. It examines, in this context, the place and role of teachers in terms of fostering student learning autonomy. In order to do this, twelve teachers were involved in reflecting upon their own beliefs and practice. Their beliefs – in relation to what they think, know and believe about learning autonomy – were gathered by means of a questionnaire developed by Borg and Al-Busaidi (2012a). Their practice – how they interact with students - was examined through interviews in which the teachers gave their own descriptions and explanations whilst reviewing their recorded teaching/learning session. An open coding (Strauss and Corbin, 2004), based on inter-rater agreement (Garrison et al., 2006), has enabled a category-based analysis related to grounded theory. The data thus collected have been analyzed qualitatively, resulting in the production of individual teacher monographs. These have then been related to the principles underlying language learner autonomy

Performance and prevention of injuries in cycling are closely linked to the optimisation of individual's physical capacity and technique as weil as sport equipment. In this context, we have studied the influence of saddle setback on the effectiveness of pedalling and on knee joint loads. A musculoskeletal modelling was developed to estimate muscle and joint forces from experimental kinematic and dynamic measurements. We first focused on the adequacy between sensors data, anthropometrie model and kinematic measurements to obtain dynamically consistent input data. Then, the effect of sadd le setback on perforn1ance was evaluated through the index of pedal force effectiveness and a new index based on extemal mechanical work. Results have showed that a more backward sadd le position increases the effectiveness of pedalling. As regards to in jury prevention, our analysis focused on the effect of the saddle setback on two knee injuries commonly observed in cycling: the patellofemoral syndrome and iliotibial band syndrome. Our results showed that saddle setback do not influence patellofemoral joint forces that are usually linked to this syndrome. Moreover, a more backward saddle position increases tibiofemoral compression forces due to increasing eccentric contraction of the hamstrings.Commonly described as a friction syndrome, the computation of interaction force between iliotibial band and lateral femoral epicondyle have showed that the compression was the discriminating factor in the occurrence of the syndrome. The simulation approach developed here could be used as an additional tool to help correct potentially hartnful sport techniques, optimise equipment setup/design and improve the treatment of injuries.More generally, this thesis brings new methodological improvements and clinical implications that have broader applications on sport perfortnance, injury prevention and rehabilitation

Balance disorders represent a public health problem because they affect mobility and some autonomy. In the geriatric population, balance disorders are often frequent, have multiple causes and intricate. People with neurological, orthopedic or vestibular deficits may have sensorimotor disorder, biomechanical trouble or sensory integration problems that also affect balance, posture and thus mobility. The identification of the different impairments of balance system issue is the goal of our work. Today, the majority of the evaluation tests of balance are in “static” and they are highly controversial because of their poor repeatability. There are some tests for balance evaluation in “dynamic” conditions, but they are very dependent on the used tool. Balance evaluation becomes more complicated in the dynamic case, since there are several platforms with different movements. A patient should not move from one platform to another to make different movements and evaluations. For a complete analysis of postural stability, we must find a new solution that replaces all existing platforms into a single platform. This original platform is “IsiMove” the tool designed, developed and used in this thesis to measure the stability of subjects with balance disorders.IsiMove is a new dynamic posturography platform, designed by ASSISTMOV SAS company in collaboration with the Institute of Intelligent Systems and Robotics "ISIR" and the Rothschild Hospital. This platform addresses the need for balance analysis with its four degrees of freedom. The dual force plate on the platform allows the measurement of the posture and the force interaction of the foot / floor during the reactions, which then allows the analysis of the pathological behavior for a broad class of physical disabilities, neurological or vestibular.A new balance evaluation protocol was elaborated under the direction of Pr.Thoumie, following a series of experiments and tests. This protocol is almost complete; it is divided into two parts: static (standard protocol) and dynamic. The dynamic part is unique, in all 3 planes of space, simple movement and different frequencies. Tests on subjects with neurological disorders (myopathy and neuropathy) or stroke (hemiplegia) were made in the Rothschild hospital with the help of a physiotherapist. The majority of subjects with neurological disorders were unable to perform all exercises protocol, unlike patients with stroke. This has force us to propose two balance assessment methods: the first is based on discriminant statistical analysis and the second is based on graphical representation

Resumen
This thesis focuses on bare hand gesture recognition by proposing a new architecture to solve the problem of real-time vision-based hand detection, tracking, and gesture recognition for interaction with an application via hand gestures. The first stage of our system allows detecting and tracking a bare hand in a cluttered background using face subtraction, skin detection and contour comparison. The second stage allows recognizing hand gestures using bag-of-features and multi-class Support Vector Machine (SVM) algorithms. Finally, a grammar has been developed to generate gesture commands for application control. Our hand gesture recognition system consists of two steps: offline training and online testing. In the training stage, after extracting the keypoints for every training image using the Scale Invariance Feature Transform (SIFT), a vector quantization technique will map keypoints from every training image into a unified dimensional histogram vector (bag-of-words) after K-means clustering. This histogram is treated as an input vector for a multi-class SVM to build the classifier. In the testing stage, for every frame captured from a webcam, the hand is detected using my algorithm. Then, the keypoints are extracted for every small image that contains the detected hand posture and fed into the cluster model to map them into a bag-of-words vector, which is fed into the multi-class SVM classifier to recognize the hand gesture. Another hand gesture recognition system was proposed using Principle Components Analysis (PCA). The most eigenvectors and weights of training images are determined. In the testing stage, the hand posture is detected for every frame using my algorithm. Then, the small image that contains the detected hand is projected onto the most eigenvectors of training images to form its test weights. Finally, the minimum Euclidean distance is determined among the test weights and the training weights of each training image to recognize the hand gesture. Two application of gesture-based interaction with a 3D gaming virtual environment were implemented. The exertion videogame makes use of a stationary bicycle as one of the main inputs for game playing. The user can control and direct left-right movement and shooting actions in the game by a set of hand gesture commands, while in the second game, the user can control and direct a helicopter over the city by a set of hand gesture commands.

Graci, Valentina. "The role of peripheral visual cues in planning and controlling movement :|ban investigation of which cues provided by different parts of the visual field influence the execution of movement and how they work to control upper and lower limb motion". Thesis, University of Bradford, 2010. http://hdl.handle.net/10454/5715.

Resumen
Visual cues have previously been classified as visual exproprioceptive, when defining the relative position of the body within the environment and are continuously updated while moving (online), and visual exteroceptive when describing static features of the environment which are typically elaborated offline (feedforward). However peripheral visual cues involved in the control of movement have not previously been clearly defined using this classification. Hence the role played by peripheral visual cues in the planning and/or online control of movement remains unclear. The aim of this thesis was to provide a systematic understanding of the importance of peripheral visual cues in several types of movement, namely overground locomotion, adaptive gait, postural stability and reaching and grasping. 3D motion capture techniques were used to collect limb and whole body kinematics during such movements. Visual peripheral cues were manipulated by visual field occlusion conditions or by the employment of point-lights in a dark room. Results showed that the visual cues provided by different parts of the peripheral visual field are mainly used for online fine tuning of limb trajectory towards a target (either a floor-based obstacle or an object to grasp). The absence of peripheral visual cues while moving disrupted the spatio-temporal dynamic relationship between subject and target and resulted in increased margins of safety between body and target and increased time and variability of several dependent measures. These findings argue in favour of the classification of peripheral visual cues as visual exproprioceptive.

Resumen
Chapter 4 reads Homenaje a la cursilería’s format as a potent gesture against bourgeois notions of etiquette, taste, and social practices. In a manifesto accompanying the exhibit, El Techo emphasized lo cursi (not just melodramatic flare and excessive garishness [tackiness, or kitsch when applied to an object], but also excessive sentimentality bordering on the ridiculous [schmaltz])and lo pavoso(the distasteful conduits of bad luck). The balleneros believed that these Venezuelan traits were often repressed in official discourse, particularly those intended for international circulation. Yet here the group reclaimed them as the defining parameters for its selection of materials. Indeed, Homenaje a la cursilería represented an oppositional posture against the banalities and superficiality of the country’s outwardly projected state of affairs. The recuperation and redirection of the kitsch aspects of Venezuelan culture became the basis for a critique on the partial nature of national “modernity.” At the same time, El Techo’s use of these popular behavioral traits also required it to confront and destabilize the Situationist notion of the spectacle, that numbing corpus of commodities and experiences that alienated the capitalist body from the pain of real life.

Resumen
Let’s continue on the self-help road to improving fibromyalgia symptoms. Suppose we are eating healthy, well-balanced meals, are no longer smoking, have learned to pace ourselves, cope with changes in the weather, are sleeping well, and have reconfigured the house. At this point, how can the body be trained to reduce pain, stiffness, and fatigue? This chapter will explore how physical, mental, and complementary modalities allow fibromyalgia patients to feel better about their bodies and minds. Therapeutic regimens that help the body and mind, whether physical therapy, yoga, acupuncture, or chiropractic methods, are all based on similar tenets of body mechanics: 1. Fibromyalgia patients will never improve unless they have good posture. Bad posture aggravates musculoskeletal pain and creates tight, stiff, sore muscles. Therefore, stretch, change positions, and have a good workstation that does not require too much leaning or reaching. 2. The way we get around is a demonstration of body mechanics. The fundamental principles of good body mechanics in fibromyalgia include using a broad base of support by distributing loads to stronger joints with a greater surface area, keeping things close to the body to provide leverage, minimizing reaching, and not putting too much pressure on the lower back. Also, don’t stay in the same position for a prolonged period of time. 3. Exercise is necessary. It improves our sense of well-being, strengthens muscles and bones, allows restful sleep, relieves stress, releases serotonin and endorphins, which decreases pain, and burns calories. 4. Don’t be shy about using supports. Whether it be an armrest, special chair, brace, wall, railing, pillow, furniture, slings, pockets, or even another person’s body, supports allow fibromyalgia patients to decrease the amount of weight or stress that would otherwise be applied to the body, producing discomfort or pain. 5. All activities should be conducive to relaxation and stress reduction, whether they be deep breathing, meditation, biofeedback, or guided imagery. There are a surprisingly large number of ways these activities can be carried out. They are discussed in the next few sections.

Resumen
A worker may experience muscle aches or numbness in legs and fatigue after an eight-hour workday occupying a permanent posture for a long time. Taking into account minimum requirements for postural hygiene and ergonomics, we managed to avoid these discomforts without suffering health problems in the medium and long term. This study is part of a population of fifteen craftsmen who make masapan handicrafts in Calderón town in Ecuador. The process arises from a transformation of bread dough to a handmade dough more than 80 years ago, consisting of an ancestral art that needs quality from obtaining the dough to the artistic details of figures, where the craftsman makes his creations without realizing that is jetting a bad posture in the workplace. The research analyzes the operation of the manufacture of the glue that is carried out standing up, mixing the ingredients to obtain the dough and cooked until it gets a homogeneous consistency. It is a repetitive activity in each of the production cycles. The OWAS and RULA methods were applied to assess the risks produced by physical loads derived from the activities carried out and the global characterization of the postures, which were observed and classified in various possible combinations. The process is at level 3, that is, it requires the redesign of the task and increasing the active pauses. As a result, it was obtained that the risk category is level 2, the analyzed posture has the potential to cause damage to the musculoskeletal system.

Resumen
Train toilets are perceived to be dirty and as a consequence train travelers rate the toilet as insufficient. While the train toilet is mainly used to urinate it is for men impossible to keep the train toilet clean without spilling urine outside the bowl while standing. This causes women to hover while urinating and as a result they add to the soiling of the train toilet, by spilling drips over the seat. A ‘hygienic train toilet’ will make train travel more attractive, and it can remove one of the obstacles to travelling by train, particularly for the elderly and families with young children.A possible solution to improve hygiene in the train toilet is splitting its interior based on the posture while urinating. Accordingly, a toilet with two modules was designed: One for urinating standing and the other for the seated or hovered toilet use which was ‘inclusively designed’, thus the interior is enhanced with adaptations such as toddler platforms, a diaper changing table, extra support and enough space for wheel-chair manipulation. The observation and questionnaire both with 26 users of 3-68 years old (some wheel chair users) showed that the mock-up of the train toilet indirectly scored a 7.1 on a 10 point scale (1= very bad, 10= very good), but there is room for improvement, for instance a sanitary waste bin, an extra support bar on the left side of the toilet and a toddler platform under the urinal were lacking.

Resumen
Abstract Alternative methods have been proposed to solve the redundant problem of spinal active-passive load distribution. Due to the shortcomings in existing reduction, optimisation and EMG-driven models, and combination thereof, a novel kinematics-based approach is introduced that utilises the spinal passive-active synergy. Our recent studies demonstrate that, for a given task, the posture may be so adjusted as to yield an optimal load configuration requiring minimum muscle exertion [1]. In the current study, a solution technique for the redundant spinal system is described and applied to the analysis of a lumbar spine in an optimal posture obtained by varying the lordosis and pelvic tilt under a total of 2800N compression. The forces in lumbar muscles are subsequently computed for this optimal posture.

Resumen
Abstract Dynamic changes in cerebral blood flow and the associated vascular responses accompanying posture change that enable the brain to maintain perfusion during hypotensive stress are not fully understood. The aim of this work is to use a lumped parameter model of cerebral blood flow to analyze changes in key parameters (systemic and cerebrovascular resistances) during posture change from sitting to standing. Such a model sheds light on vascular adaptation to hypotensive stress, and could ultimately help determine the changes in cerebral autoregulation that occur in aging, hypertension, and other clinical conditions.

Resumen
Recent mathematical models of human posture have been explored to better understand the space of control parameters that result in stable upright balance. These models have demonstrated that there are two types of instabilities — a leaning instability and an instability leading to excessive oscillation. While these models provide insight into the stability of upright bipedal stance, they are not sufficient for individuals that require the aid of assistive technologies, such as a passive-cane or a walker. Without a valid model one is unable to understand the control parameters required for maintain upright posture or if similar instabilities even exist when assistive technologies are used. Therefore in this study, we developed a mathematical model of human posture while using a passive-cane to examine the nonlinear dynamics of stance. First, we developed a simple mathematical model of cane assisted human stance by adapting the inverted pendulum model of Chagdes et al., [1]. We modeled the human body, upper arm, forearm, cane, and ground as a two-degree-of-freedom, five-bar-linkage with pin joints representing the ankle, shoulder, elbow, and wrist joints. Second, we investigate upright stability in the parameter space of feedback gain and time-delay. We hypothesize that the analysis will show similar instabilities compared to that of a human standing without assistive technology. We also hypothesize that the space of control parameters which stabilize upright equilibrium posture will increase when a cane is incorporated. This study has two potential applications. First, the developed mathematical model could allow clinicians to better assess technology assisted balance and if needed help clinicians to customize a treatment plan for an individual that allows them to avoid unstable postural dynamics. Second, the mathematical model can be used to design customized assistive technology for people of difference physical properties and impairments.

Resumen
This poster paper presents an overview of the A˚bo Akademi full-scale boiler ash behavior measurement database. The database contains data from some 20 full-scale boiler measurement campaigns during which the ash behavior in the boiler has been monitored identically. The measurements have been done in 3 different bubbling fluidized bed boilers and 2 circulating fluidized bed boilers during 11 different campaigns. For comparison data from 2 pulverized fuel fired boilers as well as from 2 grate fired boilers have also been included. The data collection includes conventional analyses of the fuels or fuel mixes used during the measurements, ash deposition measurements performed with the air-cooled probe technique, chemical analyses of the collected deposits (front and back side separately, chemical analyses of the boiler fly ashes, and recordings of chosen relevant boiler operation parameters such as boiler load, air-distribution, and flue gas temperatures. The poster paper presents ash deposition data, so called Rate-of-build-up values (RBU, g/m2h) as a function of fuel mixes, probe surface temperatures and boiler type. The poster also presents compositional data of the collected deposits such as the chlorine content as a function of fuel mix and probe surface temperature.

Lasko, Kristofer. Incorporating Sentinel-1 SAR imagery with the MODIS MCD64A1 burned area product to improve burn date estimates and reduce burn date uncertainty in wildland fire mapping. Engineer Research and Development Center (U.S.), septiembre de 2021. http://dx.doi.org/10.21079/11681/42122.

Texto completo
Resumen
Wildland fires result in a unique signal detectable by multispectral remote sensing and synthetic aperture radar (SAR). However, in many regions, such as Southeast Asia, persistent cloud cover and aerosols temporarily obstruct multispectral satellite observations of burned area, including the MODIS MCD64A1 Burned Area Product (BAP). Multiple days between cloud free pre- and postburn MODIS observations result in burn date uncertainty. We incorporate cloud-penetrating, C-band SAR-with the MODIS MCD64A BAP in Southeast Asia, to exploit the strengths of each dataset to better estimate the burn date and reduce the potential burn date uncertainty range. We incorporate built-in quality control using MCD64A1 to reduce erroneous pixel updating. We test the method over part of Laos and Thailand during April 2016 and found average uncertainty reduction of 4.5 d, improving 15% of MCD64A1 pixels. A new BAP could improve monitoring temporal trends of wildland fires, air quality studies and monitoring post-fire vegetation dynamics.
