Texto completoThis thesis recounts the history of the French male elite basketball from 1920 to 1980, considering the evolution of its techniques, tactics, stategies, and more generally speaking, it takes in consideration its modalities of game. The survey carries out meticulous inventory of gestures and playing intentions, and details their origins and their genalogie. For this, it analyses a large corpus of documents and records: narrative memory, written accounts, and evidence preserved by images or frames. Then it identifies the human, economic, social, technological or scientific factors responsible for the evolution process, from an expanded perspective directly related to the cultural history. The conclusions allow drawing four eras of technical stability, interrupted with clear ruptures. Thus, Ripopo game predates 'modern basket-ball' that gives way to 'Controlled Play', then to 'Continuity Play' "Play by continuities" heralding the "Free Game". Except for the original style that appeared between the two World Wars, the technical nature of the French basketball reveals a modest capacity of invention in comparison with the omnipresent American influence. Then, the paces of the innovation are more the concern of exogenous factors related to the game itself than endogenous causes. Furthermore, the located regularities noticeably cross-checks the laws of evolution involved in the sporting techniques introduces by G. Vigarello. Finally, this work can help to constitute the basis for a study on stylistic pecularities in sports taking into account their cultural environment

Texto completoThrough television and the virtual world that represents Internet, individuals communicate, exchange and soak up different cultural practices than those observed within their group of belonging. At the present time, the United States play a major role in the transmission of these cultural elements. Without doubt, the American population is the most "admired” and "copied " population worldwide. Its influence is undeniable and, as in many domains, the world of basketball was very influenced by American people. By means of media in particular, the American basketball culture grown on within the hexagonal basketball landscape, becoming the major reference for a large number of French players. The interest of this study is therefore to analyze the effects of this "American hegemony" on young basketball players in Ile-de-France. First of all we will have to deal with a process of cultural integration. Through an in-depth study of the representations and manners of play, the way of these young players dress in Ile-de-France, we can notice that American basketball became a model and flagship culture for the largest number of them. Then this cultural hegemony for American basketball in France will lead to modifying the identity of some of these young players. We will indeed notice that these young players use this culture of American basketball to build up a cultural identity at their image. This analysis will therefore bring to light all the phenomena of re interpretation and cultural reinvention which can follow from a shock of cultures

Texto completoThis study in sports pedagogy examined the game of basketball as a complex learning system in which a player must regulate, organize, and find equilibrium in an uncertain dynamic of complementary and oppositional movement. Instead of studying predetermined instructional sequences and techniques, this research examined the effects on learning of dynamic instruction that involved the players on both teams in authentic situations. The lessons (6) of 2 hours consisted of: (a) game time, (b) discussion time, (c) return to the game, and (d) learning situations derived from the preceding game play, with the result that student built during verbalization. The scientific steps involved increasingly sophisticated analysis of: language, evolution of the practice, and uncertainty and reversibility of the game. At a higher level of interpretive complexity, basketball begins with both ludic and didactic dimensions of semiotic thought. By displaying the originality and plurality of the interpretation of action, this thesis reveals the autonomy of the learner and the training of a world actor

Texto completoSport situations offer an interesting field to the study of signification of some institutional practices : rules modifications. In this study, basketball has been object of a modelization from game rules setting openly stable features (universals) which send back to a strong sociologic interpretation. On the frame thus constructed, the observation of thirty high performance matches, has enabled to assign frequencies to model elements. It appears that game rules transformations, in proportion of its growing success respond to a research of further show. Then, the comparison of two important competing game forms did not conceal important disparities through retained parameters reinforcing universals notion. It seems that this sport team hold an important portion of duels in one to one that we may think it's one of the reasons of its spectacular success. In resume, the research consisting in modelizing and observing sport situations may lead to question on the evolution of cultures, show importance, globalization

Texto completoThe subject is to establish indicators which could allow a better prediction of self control and decisive abilities of basket ball players in situation of stress or strain. Problematic : does the top ranking basket ball player present the psychological features to cope a situation of stress. Is it possible to establish a basket ball player profile able to cope under pressure. Hypothesis : the psychological evaluation of basket ball player establishes a relationship between his performance and the detection of a dominant characteristic, either cognitive, emotional or social, finally both of them. From this assessment we can deduct applications in the field of detection, supersion and support in training and competitive situations. A differential study in which 140 basket ball players among them 44 are top ranking and 370 reference subjects is led for a research of particular basket ball players features and in particular for top rankers. This study with a multidimensional aspect uses many psychological instruments essentially meant for "normal" subjects. With the help of a filtering method, it starts with a comparison between basket ball players and normal people and ends with a comparison with the performance of these basket ball players themselves. The second part is more clinic and is built on a steady work repated during several years. The results could unlike generally accepted ideas qualify the basket ball players to have "marked tendencies for socialization" rather to be "tinged with defence connected with their environment". Some of those results might show that the best players would invest less energy in defence than than the others

Their respective historical paths and the place they occupy in all regional, national and international sports have led to the building of totally different relationships with the process of internationalizing and professionalizing spectator sport. Through both a comparison of the fans and the internal working of each club, one can apprehend the consequences of the globalization of spectator sport on local and regional dynamics

Texto completoThis study’s aim was to explore how Taiwanese fifth grade students learn basketball game play within a semio-constructivist approach. Three main aspects focused on (1) students game play performances, (2) discursive practices developed through debate of idea set-up (DIS), and (3) a video-based test on game play interpretation. Two classes were divided into Experimental Group (class one, girls, n=17; boys, n=15) taught with a constructivist approach and a Control Group (class two, girls, n=16; boys, n=16) provided with a technique centered approach. Game play observation and verbal exchanges were recorded during a complete basketball learning cycle (duration: 12 hours effective practice). Game play performances was analyzed by systematic observation while DIS and video-based test translated transcripts were conducted through discourse analysis. Independent and dependent t-tests were used. Three main issues were as following: 1) this approach involves a complex system of different student resources: techniques, interpretation, decision-making, semiotics and social interactions; 2) the force ratio evolution during game play is beneficial to the team organization and tactical decision making; 3) the relationship between speech and action favors, under conditions, the basketball learning. The problem-solving activity extracted from the experience determines the student reflective posture and finally allows his/her creativity emergence. These results question the PE teacher training

Texto completoThis study has for object to analyse the expertise on basketball at high-level based on methods for knowledge elicitation, such as those that are classically used for cognitive ergonomics. Experimentation through the utilization of a video (a moving picture of 8 players of the age of 14, during a training period involving 9 sequences) has enable to record the verbal judgment of 9 experts. The verbal data analysis performed with the method derived from propositionnal discursive analysis (PDA) has led to the concept of the expert's thought. As opposed to the expectations of the French federation of basketball (where focus is on leg skill, hardly progressive through training), the "eye of the expert" has essentially his focus on hand movements - dexterity - (progressive skill through training). The results pertaining to geometric data analysis, achieved on the basis of the PDA results, have later on enable to place each player in relation to the multidimensional vision of expert. At the same time, the performances (derived from the evaluation tests used by the federation) of 260 selected players of the age 14 have been subjected to study. 3 years later, in the data base, it has been possible to locate, not only the 8 players of the experimentation, but also 6 out the 12 team members of France today. Those children had no exceptional profile at the age of 14, nevertheless, they were among those with the greatest dexterity. These results are thus confirming the outcome of our research

Texto completoConsidered a paying job by some, a non-contratualized activity by some others, femalebasketball is far from being homogenous. Thus this thesis will try to analyze the careers ofplayers belonging to the highest two national French divisions with a view to enlighten howthese careers get constructed and evolve. This sports world is very competitive, hierarchiallyordered and unsafe, that's why've tried to study its organization and functioning by unvealingthe mechanisms which explain that a player eventually occupies such or such a position. Guidedby the interactionist approach to social phenomena and concerned with career studying by usingan inductive process, we've combined several (quantitativ and qualitativ) field surveys: that'show we've drawn up 3 categories of sportswomen based on the position they occupy at onemoment in their careers : the « stars », the « settled » and the others. Beyond these results we'vealso attempted to question the survey methods, by reporting on our methodology and byadvancing cautiously in the harvesting and analysis of the material produced. Finally this surveydedicated to female elite basketball players has also permitted to draw some elements to start afuture survey devoted to the sports market more serenely : our attention will be drawn to otherpeople than female basketball players such as agents, club managers and coaches

Texto completoAs a global cultural phenomenon, basketball is portrayed as a “black” sport, in spite of its origins in Mainstream America. What lies behind this acculturation in reverse, whereby a minority appropriates a sport of the majority? In what sense is the Afro-Americanness of basketball a political, cultural and social construct? What role do the media play in the representation of this link established between Afro-American culture and basketball? And to what extent does this link find itself reflected in the other elements of the Afro-American popular culture? The research methodology calls on various disciplines, from cultural history to media studies, including semiology. It relies on a complex corpus that includes ethnographic observation, the analyses of the comments of NBA matches, documentaries as well as audiovisual productions (movies, TV series, music). It aims at revealing the storytelling constructed by the NBA, as well as the representing in words and music of the Afro-Americanness of the basketball. The research highlights several phases in the evolution of the sport, from Political to Symbolic to Corporate with a recent Progressive phase of return to politics. The analysis of the comments of the Finales NBA reveals the representation of the black athlete through the media prism. Mixed with this storytelling, the issue of race is elaborated within an American sports mythology where the relation to the Other is mediated by the athletic and racial performance of the players. The study of popular culture underlines the visual importance of the black body and the figure of the Black Baller. The process of acculturation and cultural appropriation is thus partially related to the initiative of the Afro-American community but the media and the popular culture they convey play an essential role in the framing of the black Basketball player within the narrative of American togetherness

Texto completoThe thesis carried out hereinafter is about teachers' didactic action. Teachers with different background and vocational training are involved: the first one is a specialist in basketball, a run-of-the mill stuff teacher, formed as a physical training teacher and one with an outside contributor. The hypothesis is that the teachers' relations with knowledge; their professional training as well as their experience in basket ball as a social practice, do act upon the way they view and adapt the teaching contents. Bearing in mind the 1989 Chevallard's concept, as far as relations of knowledge is concerned, we can assert that the evolution of the content taught could be understood only when the teachers' activity is studied in context and shrewdly. Therefore a survey of four basket-ball units has been carried out in the fifth year of primary school, following three scales of analysis: the first one is linked to teachers' routines, the second is connected to the chronogenesis of the knowledge of the cycle, and the third one concerns the situated regulations achieved by the teachers in a similar situation. The results bring to the fore that teachers' subjections to various institutions are a determining factor, even though a classroom management can be noticed
Helvig, Lionel. "Le sport en héritage : sociohistoire des clubs de basket nantais(1920-2015)". Thesis, Nantes, 2016. http://www.theses.fr/2016NANT3010.
Texto completoLittle explored to date despite its unrivalled density on the national scale, basketball in Nantes offers a fertile field of research, in particular due to the originality of the process of diffusion of Naismith’s invention in a region in which American soldiers transited during the FirstWorld War. Although basketball was practised by the “boys” in the camps of Base Section Number1 from 1917 onwards, the graft was not effective in Nantes until the beginning of the 1920s. It took shape at the initiative of sportsmen and Parisian conscripts, who gave the impetus to a rapid development which became exponential, against the background of competition between Catholic youth clubs and secular associations. Almost a century later, the erasure of the ideological, territorial and gender-based attributes which are the very principle of clubs, is present yet only partially, inviting reflection on the mechanisms which make it possible to perpetuate a heritage, the most apparent traces of which include the names of the associations, their double affiliation (both federal and according to their affinities) and their anchorage in a localityor a district. In this respect, the force of intergenerational relations which make clubs spaces of transmission and also objects, plays a decisive role in the arrangements made. This work therefore aims to analyse the local transformations of the sporting space without ever losing sight of the fact that beyond their legal definition, the sociability to which they give rise or their position within a competitive hierarchy, sports associations are also common assets which forge links

Texto completoThe arrival of the media in sports activity has modified market mechanisms and consumer habits. By transforming production means and creating new outlets (increase in cable and digital TV network), mass media firms have changed sport into a TV product and a vector of communication which attracts many more financial partners. This evolution has led to a change in the relationship between the media and the sports organizations, becoming more complex because of the increase in sport events and increases coasts of broadcasing rights. Faced with the power of these new actors who want to manage the whole supply chain, from the product's creation to its distribution, sport as a whole is in danger, as is the competitive sport balance that the organizations try to preserve. It is thus necessary to consider new management models to guarantee the principles of equity and uncertainty unique to sport. Basketball, which has a modern and dynamic image, is a good imustration of this kind of problem and a way to show the differences between several production systems of sports entertainment

Texto completoPointing gestures and guided gaze are commonly used as bodily cues to enhance visual attention and comprehension in various academic domains. However, their specific effectiveness in the sports context, particularly in teaching basketball tactical patterns, remains relatively unexplored. Therefore, the central objective of this thesis was to examine the impact of pointing gestures and/or guided gaze by the coach on visual attention and memorization of tactical scenes. The key findings revealed significant interactions between the use of these cues and the players' level of expertise, demonstrating an expertise reversal effect. In most experiments conducted, pedagogical methods that were effective for novice players proved to be ineffective or even detrimental for expert players. Consequently, these results emphasize the importance of adapting the use of pointing gestures and guided gaze to accommodate variations in players' expertise level when presenting training materials for basketball game plans and/or phases

Texto completoThe aim of this research is to study the first stage of French basketball history. Based on an empirical work done in France, in the United States of America and in Switzerland, different archives – UCJG (young Protestants movement), young Catholics clubs, national federations (FFA and FGSPF), international federations (FIBA, IAAF) and also some data stem from both the Church and the Army archives – allowed to supply a supplementary perspective about the links between sport and religion on the one hand, and to bring some intelligibility factors on cultural relationships between the USA and France on the other. This study gives prominence to the emergence of a phenomenon that will be on the rise after the Second World War. Between 1893 and 1933, one attempt of Americanization followed another by means of different YMCAs, firstly at a Parisian association scale, UCJG of Paris, and then at a national level during the Great War. They match with two well-marked circumstances: the first being the concern of the export of a cultural and sporting innovation (1886-1917), the second of the French suitability for a foreign physical practice (1917-1933). Each of them sheds light on the different responsibilities of the phenomenon: its failures and its successes, but also the resistances that it could face and the stakes it covers. Those circumstances underline the impact of the changing of perception of a power on the spreading of its cultural innovations

Texto completoMany athletes bet on sport events and their sport knowledge could emphasize their feeling of competence predicting the results. Theories such as self-efficacy belief (SEB) and illusion of control can address this feeling of competence. Because SEB can generalize from a task to similar ones, athletes’ SEB regarding a sport task could generalize, as illusion of control, to sport predictions. The main purpose of the master’s thesis is to verify if SEB during a basketball task generalizes to sport predictions. A secondary goal is to verify the association between SEB and illusion of control during predictions. Twenty three collegiate basketball players were randomized to one of two conditions: increased or decreased SEB. During a basketball task, athletes had to predict the number of baskets they could fare and tried to achieve this number. To induce increased or decreased SEB, athletes are told they have two minutes to complete the task, when they have 15 % more or less of this time. They then make predictions on professional basketball and another professional sport. Results show a significant increase and decrease of SEB during the basketball task, without generalization to predictions. Athletes’ SEB was high on basketball predictions and moderate on the other sport, regardless of conditions. Also, the link between SEB and illusion of control did not reach significance. However, results illustrate that athletes show higher SEB on the basketball predictions compared to other sports. It appears that basketball players feel more competent predicting basketball events than another sport, regardless of their SEB in a motor basketball task.

Texto completoOur first assumption was that pupils fail because of the lessons that are given to them and that they do not understand. Then, inspired by Brousseau's theory of didactic situations (1986)we tried and examined what obstructed the teaching and the learning of physical education in the elementary school. This research concerns the observations of the usual kind of teaching. We have studied how the pass was taught in basket-ball which is a frequent object of survey. The analysis of the information necessary to the accomplishment of the action shows that the player has to face on obstacle. More precisely the non-ball holding players has to solve a problem of spatial computation between the position of the ball holder and the field goal. According to us, the teachers do not let the pupils face that obstacle. Dysfunctions appear in the teaching process. The study of these dysfunctions during four learning sequences consisting in throwing the ball to the captain, should enable us to bring to light certain principles which govern the interactions between the master and the pupils when transmitting these informations. It emphasises that the difficulties of the pupils to fulfil what they are asked for come from different apprehensions of the situation that is presented to them and from a non identification of the subjacent principle of the pass

Texto completoThe study proposes to acknowledge basketball as the privileged field of analysis ofcontemporary sport mutations. More specifically, it cares about presenting the NationalBasketball Association (NBA) as the witness of a transition towards new modes of productionand consumption of sports narratives. In that perspective, the research pleads in favor of aparadigmatic reversal that allows to better understand the stakes linked to the development ofthe complex mediasport. Therefore, it proposes the transdisciplinary approach that is in favorof the relationship between those stakes with the « in progress » process of convergence.Conjointly, the examination tends to precise the narrative characteristics, the methodsof media productions and the socio-cultural effects pertaining to NBA narratives. It leans on acorpus composed of several analyses of audiovisual contents (Top 10 compilations, movies, video games, tweets), of documentary researches (case studies of the web site Trashtalk.co andof the NBA2K video game), of a questionnaire distributed to NBA fans and to members of thebasketball federation and of interviews lead with several French media supervisors. The analysis then states a sports imaginary whose conception leans essentially on theimage of star players and on their spectacular gestures. It brings light to the transmediastorytelling useful to the construction and to the spreading of NBA narratives. Finally, theresearch witnesses the potential social-cultural transformations associated with the reception ofthose narratives. More precisely, it suggests an active role of the NBA in the Americanizationof the representation of fans and of French basketball players and in the development of «postmodern » sports culture

Texto completoWheelchair basketball (WB) is practiced by sportsmen in Manual Wheelchair (MWC) whose deficiency has a direct impact on their physical capacities and their performances. The evaluation of the physical capacities of the athletes is an essential element of the follow-up of their training, allowing them to maintain or improve their performances and to limit the risks of injuries. Although we know that the athletes use mainly two modes of propulsion (Synchronous - Syn - and Asynchronous - Asy), few studies have focused on their comparative analysis in WB players and most of them have been carried out in the laboratory, with healthy subjects. However, we have very few studies comparing laboratory - field and valid – WB players allowing to affirm that the tests carried out in the laboratory, in addition on healthy subjects, are representative of the reality of the WB practice in the field. Thus, this thesis aims to study the various techniques of MWC propulsion with WB players to help improve performance and reduce the risk of injuries’ factors related to the constraints of discipline. For this, the first step was to compare the physiological and biomechanical responses of Asy propulsion between the treadmill and the field. We have shown that the analysis of the Asy propulsion is not recommended on a treadmill because it does not completely reproduce the ground conditions, in particular because of the greater steering movements for this mode of propulsion, corresponding to the lateral movements of the MWC, which is neutralized by the attach of the MWC on the treadmill. However, on the field, this steering makes the athlete to correct his trajectory to be as straight as possible. We found that the energy cost is higher and that some biomechanical parameters are modified compared to a propulsion on the treadmill where the steering is neutralized. We hypothesize that, depending on his residual abilities, the athlete uses his trunk muscles more intensively to ensure his postural stability during Asy mode of propulsion. Then, a comparison of the two modes of propulsion was carried out in the field during three types of tests: firstly, during submaximal tests (session of 4 min at 8 km.h-1), secondly, during progressive endurance test like Vameval to measure the aerobic capacity of athletes, and finally during sprints to measure the anaerobic capacity of athletes. The results show that the Asy propulsion increases the time parameters (recovery time and cycle time) as well as the efficiency of the propulsion while the Syn propulsion seems to be more efficient and more at risk of developing injuries. Finally, using a FRET instrumented ergometer coupled to a motion analysis system, we also quantified the effect of these two modes of propulsion on symmetry and trunk movements. For this, we chose to analyze the influence of Syn and Asy propulsion mode during start-up and during steady state propulsion, with sport subjects. The results show that Asy propulsion induces more asymmetry compared to Syn propulsion. Medial-lateral trunk movements associated with medial-lateral superior amplitudes of center of pression displacement and higher steering movements observed in the Asy mode suggest greater postural instability and increased muscular trunk activity. Thus, in view of these results, depending on the physical abilities of the athlete, the game phases and the training period, it would be more recommended to choose one or other of the propulsion modes. The improvement of the performances during the propulsion in straight line and without ball, seems to us to pass by using the Syn mode of propulsion whereas the Asy propulsion would be to recommend for the prevention of the injuries and the recovery
