Resumen

Beach ridges originate from various depositional processes and occur in a variety of settings. This paper assesses their nature and distribution on the islands of the Greater Caribbean based on a literature review and the identification of sites using Google Earth© 7.3 imagery. The morphological and orientation parameters were measured for each site, and a measure of storm density was developed. Abstract The Goa coast of southern India is affected by short-term storm events during summer which perturb the fair-weather beach equilibrium considerably. The storm surge ebb at Goa coast moves perpendicular to the shoreline and deposits its load in the form of shore-parallel ridges. Renewal of fair-weather condition throws the storm profile into disequilibrium and exposes part of the storm-induced ridge field. The effort for re-equilibration establishes a new beach profile in which the part of the storm-induced ridge field turns into backshore.

In northeastern Kuwait, ancient beach ridges and associated berms are separated from the present shoreline by a 4–6 km-wide sabkha. A diverse mollusk fauna in the beach ridges attests to a former open marine environment. A total of 21 AMS dates were obtained in this study.
