'Self-awareness' and the development of the autonomous subject (derived from Enlightenment and the Anglo-European philosophical traditions) has often been implicated in discussions of modernity. In East Asian societies where the Confucianist social order is seen as a deep-rooted social and cultural force, discussions of modernity and modernisation have often revolved around the tension between the spread of individualism and liberalism that come with modernisation and contact with the West. The preservation of traditional sociocultural values and familial and social structures that stress mutu

Resumen
In the present work, a higher-order beam model able to characterize correctly the three-dimensional strain and stress fields with minimum computational efforts is proposed. One-dimensional models are formulated by employing the Carrera Unified Formulation (CUF), according to which the generic 3D displacement field is expressed as the expansion of the primary mechanical variables. In such a way, by employing a recursive index notation, the governing equations and the related finite element arrays of arbitrarily refined beam models can be written in a very compact and unified manner. Resumen
Abstract. In this study, we employ low and high-fidelity finite beam elements to conduct geometrical nonlinear transient analyses of composite and sandwich structures. The equations of motion for various structural theories are derived in a total Lagrangian scenario using the Carrera Unified Formulation. The unified formalism's three-dimensional nature enables us to include all components of the Green-Lagrange strain tensor. To solve the equations, we utilize the Hilber-Hughes-Taylor (HHT)-α algorithm in conjunction with a Newton-Raphson procedure. We present the dynamic response of a sandwich

Resumen
Abstract This contribution is focused on a straight composite beam with multiple piezoelectric layers under the action of an axial support motion. In the sense of v. Karman a nonlinear formulation for the axial strain is used and the equations of motion are derived by means of the Hamilton formalism. This system turns out to be a special class of infinite dimensional systems, the so called Hamilton AI-systems with external inputs. In order to suppress the excited vibrations two infinite control laws are proposed. The first one is an infinite PD-feedback law and the second one is based on the n
