Introduction Taxes are increasingly used as a policy tool aimed at reducing consumption of sugar-sweetened beverages (SSBs), given their association with adverse health outcomes including type 2 diabetes, obesity and cardiovascular disease. However, a potential unintended consequence of such a policy could be that the tax induces substitution to alcoholic beverages. The purpose of this study is to examine the impact of the $0.0175 per ounce Seattle, Washington, Sweetened Beverage Tax (SBT) on volume sold of alcoholic beverages. This single intrinsic case study explores how Oregon uses strategies identified through Translation Science to achieve statewide implementation of high-fidelity recovery-oriented ACT. Method: Multiple data sources were used to evaluate this implementation process, including ACT fidelity review reports, programmatic outcome data, a national ACT taskforce survey, and focus group

Resumen
This article considers key determinants of terroir tourism in the context of organic vineyards in Oregon, US. Emerging from anthropology, climatology, ecology, geography and wine tourism, terroir tourism has been recently recognized to have potential for developing tourism in Oregon. However, research has sought to determine terroir tourism and its characteristics, differentiating it from wine tourism. This case of Oregon will investigate a wine territory through the examination of organic vineyards. The relative importance of terroir within the organic vineyard destinations of Oregon is exami

Nine enterococcus-like strains were referred to the Streptococcus Laboratory at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) for further identification from the National Antimicrobial Resistance Monitoring System Laboratory at the CDC. The cultures were isolated from ground beef purchased from retail in Oregon in 2000. Conventional biochemical testing and analysis of whole-cell protein electrophoretic profiles distinguished these strains from known species of enterococci and vagococci. Comparative 16S rRNA gene sequencing studies revealed that these strains were most closely related to

Moderately well preserved Permian (late Wolfcampian, Leonardian, Guadalupian, and Djulfian) and Early(?) These Permian faunas are similar to those used in constructing the radiolarian zonations for Japan and the Tethyan regions. Although several Oregon taxa have been reported from limestone sequences in the central United States, most of the Oregon forms have only been found in cherty rocks and nearly half have not previously been reporte

Abstract Assisted living (AL), a senior housing option that combines housing, support services, and health care, is recognized as one of the fastest-growing components of the long term care industry. AL is also a relatively expensive service, whether it’s paid for privately or publicly. Also, an increasing proportion of AL residents have diagnoses of Alzheimer’s and related dementias. However, little is known about AL quality, in part due to lack of measures. Quality of AL matters to residents, their families, and policy makers because AL is not only about the experience of receiving specific

In the mid-1980s, eastern filbert blight (EFB) fungus, Anisogramma anomala (Peck) E. Oregon State University's (OSU) Hazelnut Breeding Program responded by developing EFB-resistant cultivars, the first of which was released in 2005. The breeding program has also selected for other beneficial traits such as uniform early nut maturation, larger kernel size, and improved kernel quality. A 2008 OSU economic study on the costs of establishing and producing hazelnuts showed th

However, since their development in the mid-1990s, the GRPs have not been significantly updated due to a lack of resources to overcome technological hurdles and shortages of field and office personnel. Abstract Oregon softwood log exports experienced a resurgence during years after the Great Recession. Using an empirically grounded partial equilibrium model, the purpose of this study is to assess the net effects of log exports on total economic surplus by measuring the effects of a hypothetical absence of export markets from 2010:Q1 to 2015:Q4. Based on our modeling results, the net economic losses would have amounted to $248 million during the study period in total. Oregon mills would have gained $1.66 billion in total, whereas landowners would have lost $1.91 billion in total had there not

Climate variability is well known to affect the marine survival of coho salmon (Oncorhynchus kisutch) in Oregon and Washington. Marine factors have been used to explain up to 83% of the variability in Oregon coastal natural coho salmon recruitment, yet about half the variability in coho salmon recruitment comes from the freshwater life phase of the life cycle. This seeming paradox could be resolved if freshwater variability were linked to climate and climate factors influencing marine survival were correlated with those affecting freshwater survival. Recent news from Oregon and California indicate that decriminalization has failed and encouraging public drug use isn't actually a success either. Measure 110, passed in Oregon three years ago, decriminalized possession of small amounts of all illegal drugs. Overdose rates went up, as more drug users were attracted to the state. The streets of San Francisco and Oakland, California, just for example, have been populated by out‐of‐state drug users looking for cheap fentanyl, government hand‐outs, and most recently, free housing.
