Resumen
This research is motivated by the rapid development of online media. Radio strives for its broadcasts to continue to be of interest to listeners. The aim of the research is to see El-Dity radio's efforts to improve broadcast quality in the face of mass media competition. The research method is qualitative with data collection of observations, interviews, and documentation. Observations were made at the El-Dity radio studio, while the interview informants were the director and broadcaster of the bulletin program, the person in charge of reporting, and the broadcasters of El-Dity radio. The results of the study found that El-Dity radio had tried to improve the quality of bulletin broadcasts in order to face mass media competition, by selecting news that was interesting, broadcast worthy, up to date, and packaged in an attractive manner. Broadcasters try to present the news clearly, and another thing that El-Dity radio does to improve the quality of its bulletin broadcasts is to divide its broadcast segmentation with various types of regional, national and international news.

Resumen
Western mass media is considered unfair and subjective in delivering news. Instead previous studies show that those western mass media have unfairly broadcasted news related Muslim people, limited studies have been carried out to show how those media broadcast the news and who control those media. This study, therefore, tries to understand how western media broadcast news related Muslim people and who control those media. This study employed content analysis in which the data was gathered from online sources and scholar journals. The findings show that western media use some strategies in broadcasting news such as making early claims during broadcasting, present false report and negative image, and use unproper language. The conclusion is that unfair news broadcasting related Muslim countries could be happened due to Jews domination in western mass media ownership and management. The limitation of this studi is that the data was merely gathered from online sources. Future research need to be carried out within broader context by involving journalists and communities.

This paper presents an improved framework for voice retrieval of Mandarin broadcast news speech. First, several unsupervised and data-driven approaches for broadcast news transcription were proposed to improve the speech recognition accuracy and efficiency. Then, a multiscale indexing paradigm for broadcast news retrieval was exploited to alleviate the problems caused by the speech recognition errors and the flexible wording structure of the Chinese language. Finally, we used the PDA as the platform and broadcast radio programs collected in Taiwan as the document collection to establish a speech-based multimedia information retrieval prototype system. Very encouraging results were obtained.

Resumen
The amount of time dedicated to sports coverage in local news has decreased substantially in recent years. In fact, some networks have eliminated traditional sports segments or outsourced them to national organizations. The now defunct Sinclair Broadcast Group’s SportsCentral represented a cost-efficient way to produce local sports segments in multiple media markets, and this study sought to understand how SportsCentral broadcasts compared with traditional broadcasts in 3 markets. An analysis of SportsCentral segments over a 17-month period in the Birmingham, AL; Oklahoma City; and Tampa–St. Petersburg markets showed that traditional sportscasts provided more local sports coverage than shows airing SportsCentral. While relying more heavily on satellite-generated content, sportscasts using SportsCentral had a wider variety of stories and aired more sports feature stories and franchises than the traditional sportscast. However, local newscasts found ways to integrate sports coverage into the news broadcast to cover late-breaking or important local stories.

Newsroom concern about journalism ethics is no politically correct fad, say both editors and broadcast managers. And who's more ethical? Newspaper reporters, say editors, but three-quarters of broadcasters disagree. Neither print nor broadcaster people, however, think TV reporters are more concerned about ethics than are print reporters.

Resumen
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to examine the representation of women in Canadian broadcast news coverage, exploring the notion of substantive representation as it relates to gender, leadership and framing. Design/methodology/approach Using computer-aided text analysis software, the authors analyzed the frequency of women appearing in on-air roles, the way in which they are framed, as well as technical and expressive details, such as how they are featured. In total, the authors analyzed representation of 2,031 individuals in the four suppertime local news broadcasts from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Framed in an ecological model of complex social change, this paper focuses on understanding how women are presented in Canadian broadcast media. Findings This study finds that women are under-represented in Canadian broadcast media. Furthermore, it finds that women are less likely to be framed as leaders or experts and are less likely to hold news host or anchor positions. For all major news broadcasters analyzed, women are less likely to be portrayed positively or in leadership/expert positions and are more often represented as victims. They are less likely to appear on screen and are more likely to be referred to off-screen, paraphrased and cited rather than speaking for themselves. Research limitations/implications By framing this study in an (critical) ecological, this study moved beyond required descriptive benchmarking to examine the degree of substantive representation of women. However, the sample of the study is only a snapshot of Canada’s largest city, and, therefore, more research involving further a comparative analysis of cities, a variety of print sources and online media outlets is needed. Future research might include more qualitative analysis of the representation, the type of representation and the factors affecting levels of representation. For example, such research might explore the practices in broadcast organizations, the way in which stories are framed and how guests selected. Also of interest is the relationship between women’s representation at the decision-making table, as an input, and the representation of women in on-air roles, as an outcome. Practical implications The implications of this article are important for understanding the complex factors affecting female leadership across sectors, particularly, the Canadian broadcast industry, the barriers they face and the strategies that may lead to their advancement. Originality/value This study moved beyond descriptive benchmarking to examine the degree of substantive representation of women by coding the frames, roles and means of quotation experienced by women on broadcast news.

Resumen
This article investigates how participants in broadcast news interviews display their orientations to a social distribution of knowledge regarding newsworthy events and actors. Interviewers treat the nature, grounds, and limits of interviewees' knowledge as accountable matters. The article employs single-case and quantitative analyses to show that, in and through the design of their questions, interviewers distinguish between (i) interviewees as subject-actors who are responsible for direct, first-hand knowledge of their own conduct; and (ii) interviewees as commentators who, on the basis of indirect, second-hand knowledge, are entitled to opinions about third parties' conduct. This distinction serves as a basis for the production of interviewees' responses as talk that expresses either matters of fact or points of opinion. The article examines how these aspects of question design establish relevancies for interviewees' responses and, ultimately, shape news content.

Resumen
We propose a method for discriminating between a speech shot and a narrated shot to extract genuine speech shots from a broadcast news video. Speech shots in news videos contain a wealth of multimedia information of the speaker, and could thus be considered valuable as archived material. In order to extract speech shots from news videos, there is an approach that uses the position and size of a face region. However, it is difficult to extract them with only such an approach, since news videos contain non-speech shots where the speaker is not the subject that appears in the screen, namely, narrated shots. To solve this problem, we propose a method to discriminate between a speech shot and a narrated shot in two stages. The first stage of the proposed method directly evaluates the inconsistency between a subject and a speaker based on the co-occurrence between lip motion and voice. The second stage of the proposed method evaluates based on the intra- and inter-shot features that focus on the tendency of speech shots. With the combination of both stages, the proposed method accurately discriminates between a speech shot and a narrated shot. In the experiments, the overall accuracy of speech shots extraction by the proposed method was 0.871. Therefore, we confirmed the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Resumen
Most research on media in the post-broadcast age of politics focuses on how media affect the public, not on the interinstitutional relationships between the presidency and news media. This study tackles this important topic by studying news coverage of and presidential attention to the issue of income inequality. We use web scraping and text analysis software to build a dataset of weekly news coverage from 1999 through 2013, across traditional and nontraditional media, including newspapers, broadcast and cable television transcripts, and online news websites. The data show that presidential attention to income inequality influences the income inequality news agenda across all sources except network television and affects the tone of newspaper coverage. Presidential influence of tone is especially pronounced on income inequality issues that have an international focus. The implications of this paper are significant not only for understanding how media and the presidency interact in the post-broadcast age but also for the prospects for federal policies that may combat income inequality.

Resumen
This study examines whether broadcast news reduces negativity toward political leaders by exposing partisans to opposing viewpoints. For analysis, both exposure to broadcast news and variation in media content are used to predict changes in feelings toward the candidates during the 2008 presidential election. The results suggest that increased exposure to broadcast news increased partisans’ favorability toward the out-party candidate. In addition, increased coverage of the candidates was followed by increased favorability among members of the opposing party. These results demonstrate the benefits of exposure to two-sided communications flows for the reduction of animosity between the political parties. Moreover, these results suggest that public negativity toward political leaders might be even worse if not for the large amount of overlap between the audiences for partisan and mainstream news outlets.

Resumen
At present, the news broadcast system using mobile network on the market provides the basic functions required by TV stations, but there are still many problems and shortcomings. In view of the main problems existing in the current system and combined with the actual needs of current users, this paper has preliminarily developed a news broadcast system based on 5G Live. The card frame adaptive strategy significantly improves the user experience by using gradual video frame buffering technology. Hardware codec technology significantly reduces the consumption of system resources; H.264 high-compression algorithm can reduce network bandwidth by 50% compared with MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 without a significant change in image quality. At the same time, the use of mobile video acquisition terminals in the system not only solves the problem that satellite broadcast vehicles cannot reach the site due to the lack of roads but also greatly reduces the cost of early deployment and late maintenance of the news broadcast system. This paper studies the card frame adaptive strategy, the system resource consumption reduction solution, and the deployment scheme of the mobile video and audio transmission terminal, which is of great significance to improve the design and research of the news broadcast system under the wireless network application and also has certain reference value for the design of other broadcasting and television solutions.

In recent years there has been a slight tendency for television network news programs to increase the amount of soft news presented mostly during the last one-third of the newscast. Content analysis of the Vanderbilt Television News Abstracts from 1972 through 1987 shows that, although all networks did increase the amount of soft news, this type news remained a small part of the newscast. Soft news is defined as stories that focus on a human interest topic, feature or nonpolicy issue.

Resumen
The subject matter of this article is, at bottom, a practical problem. It accepts that people have a right to privacy and that this right should find proper protection in the law. It asks, simply, whether such protection is at all feasible given the particular technology of broadcast by satellite. For the purposes of investigating this problem several issues must be addressed. First is the nature of the violation of privacy involved. Our concern here is principally with TV news broadcasts. We begin from the point where the debate over “what is in the public interest versus what the public is interested in” has ended; there will be general consensus that the content of a certain broadcast represents a violation of an individual's privacy and one about which the law should do something. An example might be the filming in the public domain of a private individual caught in the shock of personal grief or tragedy. In such a case we would need to investigate the nature of the injury involved in any subsequent broadcast of these sounds and images, and to ask what dimension, if any, is added to this injury by their simultaneous broadcast across the globe.

This study indicates that National Public Radio and Pacifica, despite their “alternative” origins, produce news programming that is largely grounded in the same journalistic values and routines as “mainstream” commercial broadcast journalism. A content analysis of NPR's All Things Considered and Pacifica Radio News, however, found several significant differences between these two producers of public radio news in the United States. Pacifica broadcast a higher percentage of stories dealing with governance and stories with an international focus, and presented a higher percentage of officials and activists as sources than did NPR.

Resumen
Radio content is central to the formation of the broadcast programming grid. News releases, depending on the format of the radio station, are broadcast regularly: every 15 minutes, every half hour, every hour. And also the format of the media affects the specifics of the compilation and layout of the news block. The functional features of news broadcasting of information radio stations are, first of all, the “depth” of news feed with the possibility of a detailed description of current events, inclusion of expert comments and ratings in the issue. In turn, for entertainment radio stations, a certain “narrowness” of information broadcasting is inherent, which should correlate with the format of the media and the age of its target audience. In order to indicate the information agenda on entertainment radio stations, the author analyzes it using the popular “Radio Dacha” as an example. The purpose of this study is to identify the functional features and characteristics of the news releases broadcast on “Radio Dacha”. To conduct the study, the method of included observation and content analysis of news releases on radio stations from April 2011 to December 2019 were used. The study showed that it is the format of the radio station that plays a key role in the formation of news releases. The layout is also affected by the target audience and program policy of the radio station. Listeners are told about the pragmatic but exciting side of life. The news is broadcast on the main agenda in Russia and the world in a short but capacious format that echoes the rhetoric of the ruling political party. Based on what, we can draw the following conclusion: there is informational content on “Radio Dacha”, but news release is rather an actual infotainment program without a “depth” of information material.

Resumen
This study investigates which news organizations are using location-based services, particularly with geolocating content in their mobile apps, and how they are doing so. Based on findings from a content analysis of 173 mobile news apps by top U.S. media outlets (i.e., radio, television, newspaper, digital-only), broadcast mobile apps had location-based services enabled more than other media outlets. Two news radio stations had geolocated their news content.

Resumen
ABSTRACTThe British news interview turn-taking system operates through a simple form of turn-type preallocation. This article shows that a large number of the systematic differences between the news interview and mundane conversation are a product of these constraints on the production of types of turns. It then explores the relationship of turn-type preallocation in news interviews to the background legal and institutional restrictions on British broadcast journalists. In so doing, it notes how the organisation of turn-taking in two other types of broadcast interview can differ from that in the news interview due to differences between the institutionalized footings that the interviewers are conventionally required to maintain within them. Resumen
AbstractDespite strict state controls, negative news about local officials is reported in China. Faced with political constraints and the incentive and pressure to earn profits, municipal television news programmes have developed and adopted the life news model (minsheng xinwen), which aims to help citizens solve problems. The production process of this news model has transformed the political role of the broadcast media at the local level. Many life news reports focus on disputes between citizens and local officials. Thus, addressing citizen grievances essentially facilitates public service provision. Based on an ethnographic case study of a municipal television news programme, this article finds that the production process of life news reports can facilitate public service provision by correcting local officials’ behaviour, regardless of whether the news reports are eventually broadcast. This unintended role is a result of the power negotiation between local officials and journalists who face immense commercial pressure.

Resumen
Journalists are frequently used as a source of information for those studying news production and practice and as a means of describing the ‘real’ world of news. However, these conversations between researcher and journalist have often largely been treated as a transfer of neutral, transparent information about news practice rather than a discursive practice in itself. Discourse analysis has been extensively applied to the output of news, yet is underdeveloped in the area of production studies. This article argues that a more discursive approach to news production studies yields a more nuanced understanding of journalistic culture and practice. This is illustrated by using the tools of discursive social psychology to analyse interviews with 23 broadcast journalists about the nature of news. The analysis helps with the identification of the use of empiricist discourse to construct a ‘natural’ journalism and to justify certain constructions of journalistic practice.
