Background: Burnout syndrome in medical students and medical staff has been reported in Peru as a serious and frequent entity, which can have grievous personal and professional consequences. Although there are many studies carried out in other countries, the information on burnout syndrome in students of medicine and Peruvian doctors is still insufficient. Objective: To review and make a synthesis of published works on burnout syndrome in Peruvian students of medicine, medical residents and physicians during the last five years. Methodology: A literature search was performed using various databases (PubMed, SCOPUS, Scielo) regarding original articles on burnout in medical professional population and students of medicine published from 2015 to 2020. Results are presented in narrative form. Results: The prevalence of burnout syndrome in Peru has been reported in the range of 2.44–57.6% in students of medicine; 9.65–51.4% in medical residents; and 2.67–80% in physicians. Conclusions: Burnout syndrome in Peru has been reported with prevalence rates of a broad range, varying a lot. However, in the reviewed studies, methodological shortcomings were detected including little conceptual consensus among researchers by which criteria the presence of burnout should be identified, little consideration of the work environment and cultural factors in its analysis and a lack of longitudinal studies. All this hinders the global appreciation of the phenomenon and the use of the generated knowledge in proposing appropriate coping strategies.

The article deals with the results of the study on burnout syndrome among teachers with various work experiences in university. The aim of the study is the review of burnout psychological patterns among teachers with various work experiences in university. The main hypothesis of the study is based on the assumption that the teachers whose work experience in departmental universities is more than 10 years are more vulnerable to the burnout syndrome development. In order to attain the envisaged goals and to test the hypothesis there were used empirical methods: differential diagnosis of decreased functioning by A. Leonova and S. Velichkovskaya, diagnosis of professional burnout by K. Maslach and S. Jackson adapted by N.E. Vodop’yanova, technique for diagnosing the burnout syndrome level by V.V. Boiko. Group comparison of teachers with various work experiences in university has shown that long term professional activity leads to burnout syndrome development: the most part of examined teachers are characterized by high level of burnout syndrome which structure is observed in high intensity of resistance and exhaustion phases and such syndromes as inadequate emotional discrete response; resignation or depersonalization, emotional and moral disorientation; psychosomatic and vegetative disorders.

In the late 1960s, the term burnout was first used in healthcare, which describes the psychological and emotional stress experienced by medical staff in free clinics. Since then, idiom burnout has been used to describe job-related stress in any health facility from hospitals to health centers. The Maslach Burnout Inventory, developed by Maslach and Jackson, was used to measure burnout and is an applied tool to diagnose burnout among physicians. It evaluates the presence of burnout using three subscales: emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, and sense of personal accomplishment. The objective of this brief review was to assess the prevalence, risk factors, and definitions of burnout among emergency physicians in the literature. The prevalence of burnout in medical literature ranges from 25% to 77.8%. Consequently, many causes can be determined to explain the differences in burnout prevalence, such as different countries, health systems, and populations. Several risk factors associated with the occurrence of burnout include work-related burnout, balancing work and private life, number of years in the job, anxiety, depression, sex, and lifestyle. The methods of dealing with burnout varied, such as talking with others, crying, making alternate plans, daydreaming, preparing for the worst, using food or coffee, and sleeping. Finally, the authors noticed a steady association between developing of burnout and the war environment, so, physicians who come from war countries suffer from burnout more than others, which returns to several reasons

Burnout syndrome is a consequence of accumulated stress, caused by excessive engagement, both in the physical and mental (psychological) domains. It is characteristic of many professions, especially professions that involve direct work with people (healthcare, education, army, etc.), and in sports it is almost inevitable. The two most common reasons that cause burnout syndrome are: setting hard-to-achieve goals or unrealistic deadlines and trying to meet other people's (imposed) expectations. In both cases, endurance limits are pushed, which leads to burnout and has consequences for the entire human body and psychophysical health. We live in a harsh age where it is not enough to be successful, the demand is to be the best. This ultimatum is particularly prominent in sports. Athletes are distinguished from others by discipline, perseverance, persistence, focus on the goal (victory), sacrifice and responsibility. Top fitness and top results are always expected from them. The question arises: Is it even possible to achieve top results and avoid the burnout syndrome? In addition to the analysis of causes, symptoms and consequences, the paper seeks an answer to this question.

ABSTRAK Burnout syndrome merupakan suatu kondisi yang sering terjadi pada perawat akibat dari tuntutan pekerjaan yang tinggi dan kurangnya dukungan sosial. Burnout syndrome dapat mempengaruhi kinerja perawat dan kualitas pelayanan kesehatan yang diberikan kepada pasien. Oleh karena itu, upaya untuk menurunkan burnout syndrome pada perawat sangat penting dilakukan. Kegiatan ini bertujuan untuk menurunkan tingkat burnout syndrome pada perawat Aliansi Rumah Sakit Islam Jakarta melalui kegiatan Pengabdian Kepada Masyarakat (PKM). Kegiatan PKM yang dilakukan adalah edukasi tentang burnout syndrome, gejala, dampak, serta hal-hal yang dapat mencegah atau mengurangi burnout pada perawat. Selama kegiatan PKM, terdapat partisipasi yang aktif dari perawat dan terlihat antusias dalam memperoleh informasi baru terkait burnout syndrome. Kegiatan ini dilaksanakan pada 29 November 2022 diikuti 30 perawat dari Aliansi Rumah Sakit Islam Jakarta. Hasil dari kegiatan PKM menunjukkan adanya peningkatan pengetahuan perawat tentang burnout syndrome, gejala, dampak, dan cara mencegah atau menguranginya. Selain itu, terdapat peningkatan kesadaran perawat untuk melakukan self-care dan mengelola stres dengan baik. Diharapkan melalui kegiatan PKM ini, dapat membantu perawat Aliansi Rumah Sakit Islam Jakarta dalam menurunkan tingkat burnout syndrome dan meningkatkan kualitas pelayanan kesehatan yang diberikan kepada pasien. Kegiatan PKM ini juga dapat menjadi model bagi rumah sakit atau institusi lainnya dalam upaya penurunan burnout syndrome pada perawat. Kata Kunci: Burnout Syndrome, Perawat, PKM ABSTRACT Burnout syndrome is a condition that often occurs in nurses due to high job demands and lack of social support. Burnout syndrome can affect the performance of nurses and the quality of health services provided to patients. Therefore, efforts to reduce burnout syndrome in nurses are very important. This activity aims to reduce the level of burnout syndrome among nurses at the Jakarta Islamic Hospital Alliance through Community Service (PKM) activities. PKM activities carried out are education about burnout syndrome, symptoms, impacts, and things that can prevent or reduce burnout in nurses. During the PKM activities, there was active participation from nurses and they seemed enthusiastic in obtaining new information regarding burnout syndrome. This activity was held on 29 November 2022 attended by 30 nurses from the Jakarta Islamic Hospital Alliance. The results of PKM activities show an increase in nurses' knowledge about burnout syndrome, its symptoms, impacts, and how to prevent or reduce it. In addition, there is an increase in the awareness of nurses to carry out self-care and manage stress well. It is hoped that through this PKM activity, it can help nurses at the Jakarta Islamic Hospital Alliance in reducing burnout syndrome rates and improving the quality of health services provided to patients. Female workers have a high level of fatigue which can lead to burnout syndrome, especially female workers who are lecturers at Faculty of Medicine Udayana University. This study aims to determine the prevalence of burnout syndrome in female lecturers and the relationship with the causative factors. This study is an analytical observational study with a cross-sectional approach using 94 research samples. The relationship between variables was analyzed using Chi-square. The results of this study indicate that there is no significant relationship between age and burnout syndrome (p=0,140); there is no significant relationship between marital status and burnout syndrome (p=0,780); there is no significant relationship between tenure and burnout syndrome (p=0,238); there is no significant relationship between individual factors and burnout syndrome (p=0,347); there is no significant relationship between organizational factors and burnout syndrome (p=0,331); there was no significant relationship between work environment and burnout syndrome (p=0,202). The conclusion of the study is that there is no relationship between age, marital status, tenure, individual factor, organizational factor and work environment with the occurrence of burnout syndrome

The purpose is to study the establishment of the burnout-syndrome in Swedish media. The material consists of 350 articles from 2003, publiched in four major newpapers: Dagens Nyheter, Svenska Dagbladet, Aftonbladet and Expressen. In the 90's a new kind of sickness-profile seemed to take shape with diffuse stress-symptoms — insomnia, anxiety and extreme fatigue. In order to understand and explain the development, journalists started to use the word burnout. A database-search shows a highly increased use of the word in the four newspapers mentioned above during the last decade. The burnout-concept seems to have become the main-metaphor for the increasing sick leave at the time. Newspapers' articles form two different kinds of burnout-syndromes: 1. A psychological female burnout-syndrome, where women talk analytically and emotionally about their symptoms, often in self-disparaging terms — they become worn out. 2. A physical male burnout-syndrome, where sportsmen — both athletes and coaches — analyse their dysfunctional bodies, using mainly machine-metaphors such as "running out of steam", "getting rust" — they are actively hitting the wall.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to demonstrate burnout syndrome among internal medicine and pediatrics residents in a country that does not have the working time directive (WTD) and also to determine the risk factors and consequent impact on efficient functioning in clinical areas. Design/methodology/approach – A 57-item questionnaire was given to internal medicine and pediatrics residents. Responses from 22 pediatrics and 33 internal medicine residents were evaluated. Findings – Demographic findings, burnout scores, having hobbies, social activities and reading books unrelated to medicine were similar between the two groups. Six pediatrics residents (27.3 per cent) and 11 (33.3 per cent) internal medicine residents met the criteria for clinically significant burnout. Personal accomplishment scores and reading books unrelated to medicine were found to be related to burnout. Originality/value – Burnout is a syndrome characterized by depersonalization, emotional exhaustion and a low sense of personal accomplishment. It is important to document burnout in countries where WTDs are not implemented. Further studies might demonstrate burnout's effect on patient safety, service quality and physician's performance.

Rumah sakit perlu mengembangkan dan meningkatkan kualitas sumber daya perawat dalam meningkatkan suatu kualitas pelayanan karena perawat sering berinteraksi dengan pasien. Burnout syndrome adalah kondisi stres kronis yang diakibatkan oleh kelelahan akibat pekerjaan yang berada di tempat kerja. Apabila tidak mendapatkan penanganan yang baik dan mekanisme koping yang tidak adaptif, burnout syndrome yang tinggi dapat mempengaruhi kualitas kehidupan kerja perawat. Tujuannya untuk mengetahui hubungan burnout syndrome dengan kualitas kehidupan kerja perawat. Metode penelitian ini menggunakan penelitian kuantitatif dengan pendekatan cross sectional. Teknik sampling yang digunakan adalah teknik purposive sampling sebanyak 78 responden. Instrumen yang digunakan adalah kuesioner Burnout Syndrome dan Kualitas Kehidupan Kerja Perawat. Pengolahan data secara statistik menggunakan Uji Korelasi Somers. Hasil penelitian dari 78 responden didapatkan bahwa dari 35 responden (44,9%) mengalami burnout syndrome tinggi dan mengalami kualitas kehidupan kerja kurang yaitu 34 responden (43,6%). Dari uji hasil korelasi Sommers’D antara Burnout Syndrome dengan kualitas kehidupan kerja perawat didapatkan nilai p= 0,00 yang signifikan dan koefisien korelasi r= -0,69. Semakin tinggi nilai Burnout Syndrome maka semakin rendah kualitas kehidupan kerja perawat. Terdapat hubungan yang sangat kuat antara burnout syndrome dengan kualitas kehidupan kerja perawat. Workers who cannot handle the stress at work will result in burnout syndrome, especially men who work as lecturers. This study aims to determine the prevalence of burnout syndrome in male lecturers and the relationship with the factors that influence it. The analytical cross-sectional research design in this study involved 91 male lecturer respondents who worked at the Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University in 2021. The data were analyzed using Chi-Square and Spearman Rank. The frequency of occurrence of burnout syndrome were 62 (68.1%) respondents with no sign, 25 (27.5%) respondents with little sign, 3 (3.3%) respondents with severe risk and 1 (1.1%) respondent with very severe sign. The study also showed that there was no significant correlation between age and burnout syndrome (p=0.238); there was a significant correlation between marital status and burnout syndrome (p=0.004); there was no significant correlation between years of service and burnout syndrome (p=0.428); there is a significant correlation of individual factors on burnout syndrome (p=0.000); there was no significant correlation of organizational factors on burnout syndrome (p=0.099); there was no significant correlation between work environment and burnout syndrome (p=0.301).

В обзоре рассматриваются психофизиологические аспекты эмоционального выгорания. В классической многофакторной теории выгорания Кристины Маслач были рассмотрены его компоненты. Обращено внимание на критический момент в появлении первых симптомов выгорания из несоответствия между персональным вкладом и полученным или ожидаемым вознаграждением в профессиональной деятельности. Психологический конструкт В. Бойко, включающий как симптомы эмоционального выгорания, так и показатели стресса, рассмо- трен в продолжении дискуссии о соотношении понятий «стресс» и «эмоциональное выгора- ние». Значение мотивации рассматривается через теорию самодетерминации, в соответствии с которой хроническая недостижимость базовых психологических потребностей приводит к развитию выгорания. Согласно «теории эмоционального диссонанса», выгорание связано с уменьшением эмоциональной регуляции. Возникающие трудности в идентификации соб- ственных эмоций указывают на алекситимию как независимый фактор риска выгорания. Ана- лиз индивидуально-типологических и личностных детерминант эмоционального выгорания указывает на следующие личностные черты, предопределяющие формирование выгорания: нейротизм, тревожность, низкое самосознание, эмоциональная неустойчивость. Определена зависимость эмоционального выгорания от особенностей мотивационной, смысловой и ком- муникативной сферы. Изучение нейрофизиологических механизмов находится на начальном этапе. Выявленные нейрофизиологические маркеры отражают нарушения в эмоциональной сфере, указывают на исключения эмоций из анализа информации. In this review, there are examined the psychophysiological aspects of burnout. In the classical multivariate theory of burnout by Christina Maslach, its components were considered. Attention is drawn to the critical moment in the appearance of the first symptoms of burnout from thediscrepancy between the personal contribution and the received or expected reward in professional activity. V. Boyko’s psychological construct, which includes both the symptoms of emotional burnout and stress indicators, is considered in continuation of the discussion on the relationship between the concepts of “stress” and “emotional burnout”. The meaning of motivation is viewed through the theory of self-determination, according to which the chronic inaccessibility of basic psychological needs leads to the development of burnout. According to the “Emotional Dissonance Theory”, burnout is associated with decreased emotional regulation. Difficulties in identifying one’s own emotions indicate alexithymia as an independent risk factor of burnout. The analysis of individual- typological and personal determinants of emotional burnout indicates the following personality traits that predetermine the formation of burnout: neuroticism, anxiety, low self-awareness, emotional instability. The dependence of emotional burnout on the characteristics of motivational, semantic, and communicative spheres is determined. The study of neurophysiological mechanisms is at the early stage. The revealed neurophysiological markers reflect disorders in the emotional sphere, indicate the exclusion of emotions from the analysis of information.

The demands of this job for a long time can cause stress for nurses. Continuous stress can cause burnout syndrome. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between tenure and burnout syndrome in practicing nurses at Prof. Hospital. Dr. R.D. Kandou Manado. The sampling technique used purposive sampling. The Slovin formula is used to determine the sample size. Meanwhile, to assess burnout syndrome using the Maslach Burnout Inventory questionnaire. The results showed that of the 129 respondents, the majority of respondents, 72.1%, worked for less than 6 years or were in the new category of length of service. For Burnout syndrome, there were 45% of respondents who had low Burnout syndrome, 27.9% moderate, 26.3% quite high, and 0.8% had high Burnout syndrome. Meanwhile, the results of the Spearmen rank/rho statistical test showed a p value of .226 > .05, which means that there was no significant relationship between length of work and burnout syndrome in nurses at Prof. RSUP. Dr. R.D Kandou Manado. Recommendations for hospital management to find out the factors that trigger Burnout syndrome in practicing nurses, so as to increase nurse satisfaction in serving so that service quality will increase and ultimately patient satisfaction and safety will be created. Abstrak Profesi perawat dituntut untuk memberikan pelayanan yang cepat dan optimal dalam pengambilan keputusan di tengah lingkungan yang pada dasarnya penuh tekanan karena berhubungan dengan nyawa pasien. Tuntutan pekerjaan ini dalam waktu yang lama dapat mengakibatkan stress bagi perawat. Stress yang terus menerus dapat mengakibatkan Burnout syndrome. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui hubungan lama kerja dengan Burnout syndrome pada perawat pelaksanan di RSUP Prof. Dr. R. D. Kandou Manado. Teknik pengambilan sampel menggunakan purposive sampling. Rumus Slovin digunakan dalam menentukan besaran sampel. Sementara untuk menilai burnout syndrome menggunakan kuesioner Maslach Burnout Inventory. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan dari 129 responden mayoritas responden 72.1% bekerja kurang dari 6 tahun atau berada pada lama kerja kategori baru. Untuk Burnout syndrome terdapat 45 % responden mengalami Burnout syndrome rendah, 27.9% sedang, 26.3% cukup tinggi, dan 0.8% mengalami Burnout syndrome tinggi. Sementara untuk hasil uji statistik spearmen rank/rho menunjukkan p value .226 > .05 yang berarti tidak terdapat hubungan yang signifikan antara lama kerja dengan Burnout syndrome pada perawat di RSUP Prof. Dr. R.D Kandou Manado. Rekomendasi bagi management rumah sakit untuk mencari tahu faktor-faktor yang memicu terjadinya Burnout syndrome pada perawat pelaksana, sehingga dapat meningkatkan kepuasan perawat dalam melayani sehingga kualitas pelayanan akan meningkat dan pada akhirnya kepuasan dan keselamatan pasien akan tercipta. В обзоре рассматриваются психофизиологические аспекты эмоционального выгорания. Вклассической многофакторной теории выгорания Кристины Маслач были рассмотрены его компоненты. Обращено внимание на критический момент в появлении первых симптомов выгорания из несоответствия между персональным вкладом и полученным или ожидаемым вознаграждением в профессиональной деятельности. Психологический конструкт В. Бойко, включающий как симптомы эмоционального выгорания, так и показатели стресса, рассмотрен в продолжении дискуссии о соотношении понятий «стресс» и «эмоциональное выгорание». Значение мотивации рассматривается через теорию самодетерминации, в соответствии с которой хроническая недостижимость базовых психологических потребностей приводит к развитию выгорания. Согласно «теории эмоционального диссонанса» выгорание связано с уменьшением эмоциональной регуляции. Возникающие трудности в идентификации собственных эмоций указывают на алекситимию как независимый фактор риска выгорания. Анализ индивидуально-типологических и личностных детерминант эмоционального выгорания указывает на следующие личностные черты, предопределяющие формирование выгорания: нейротизм, тревожность, низкое самосознание, эмоциональная неустойчивость. Определена зависимость эмоционального выгорания от особенностей мотивационной, смысловой и коммуникативной сферы. Изучение нейрофизиологических механизмов находится на начальном этапе. Выявленные нейрофизиологические маркеры отражают нарушения в эмоциональной сфере, указывают на исключения эмоций из анализа информации. In this review, there are examined the psychophysiological aspects of burnout. In the classicalmultivariate theory of burnout by Christina Maslach, its components were considered. Attentionis drawn to the critical moment in the appearance of the first symptoms of burnout from thediscrepancy between the personal contribution and the received or expected reward in professionalactivity. V. Boyko’s psychological construct, which includes both the symptoms of emotional burnoutand stress indicators, is considered in continuation of the discussion on the relationship betweenthe concepts of “stress” and “emotional burnout”. The meaning of motivation is viewed through thetheory of self-determination, according to which the chronic inaccessibility of basic psychologicalneeds leads to the development of burnout. According to the “Emotional Dissonance Theory”,burnout is associated with decreased emotional regulation. Difficulties in identifying one’s ownemotions indicate alexithymia as an independent risk factor of burnout. The analysis of individualtypologicaland personal determinants of emotional burnout indicates the following personalitytraits that predetermine the formation of burnout: neuroticism, anxiety, low self-awareness,emotional instability. The dependence of emotional burnout on the characteristics of motivational,semantic, and communicative spheres is determined. The study of neurophysiological mechanismsis at the early stage. The revealed neurophysiological markers reflect disorders in the emotionalsphere, indicate the exclusion of emotions from the analysis of information.

BACKGROUND Burnout syndrome and anxiety are two mental health symptoms experienced by healthcare workers (HCWs) that can be exacerbated during pandemics due to increased job demands and the global health workforce crisis. AIM To provide a comprehensive review and summary of evidence on burnout and anxiety in HCWs during previous global pandemics. METHODS A systematic search on electronic databases such as PubMed Central and MEDLINE was conducted to identify high-quality systematic review studies that reported on the prevalence of burnout and/or anxiety in HCWs during any previous global pandemic. RESULTS Twenty-four high quality systematic review articles were found to be suitable for inclusion. Twenty articles focused merely on Coronavirus disease 2019, while four articles examined multiple pandemics. Burnout was examined in nine articles, while anxiety was examined in the remaining 21 articles. Female HCWs and nurses were identified to be at a higher risk of developing burnout and anxiety during pandemic. We also observed a variation in the prevalence of burnouts and anxiety across different studies due to different mental health instruments were used in different studies. CONCLUSION Nurses and females HCWs had a high prevalence of burnout syndrome and anxiety during pandemic. More emphasis and attention should be paid to safeguarding the psychological well-being of these at-risk populations in the future pandemics.

Introduction: The work of nurses is human. They help people in protection against diseases. Nurses are the largest group of health workers and all problems that appear in the health system are first recognized among them. Burnout syndrome appears among nurses very frequently. We present the leading factors for burnout among nurses in RMC „Dr Safet Mujic“ in Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina.Methods: It is a cross sectional descriptive study. We used an anonymous questionnaire with 20 questions. Our sample was random with 30% of all nurses which were working in this Medical Center in January-February 2012.Results: In our study 77.9% nurses work in the hospital. 52% have over 16 years of work experience. 34.6% of examinees are satisfi ed with interpersonal relationships, 31.7 % are satisfi ed with relationships with the superior. Motivation for work have 51% of examinees, a big number comes unwilling on work.For 83.7% overtime work is the reason for dissatisfaction 71.2% examinees think that they can't make progress on work. A high percentage of examinees doesn't think about problems related to work outside working hours, a good sleep have 38.5% and 56.7% wakes up tired. Many of examinees are not satisfiedwith workplace, and 58.7% would like to change it.Conclusion: Nurses employed in RMC „Dr Safet Mujic“ Mostar are exposed to many factors during work which can cause the burnout syndrome. It is necessary to expand the study on a larger group of nurses and to implement the measures for reducing risks of burnout syndrome.

AbstractIntroduction. The burnout syndrome is significantly associated with nursing profession. Individuals suffering from the syndrome manifest important health problems. More information about prevalence and risk factors for burnout is needed to prevent the syndrome and to determine the most appropriate clinical interventions when the disorder appears.Aim. The aim of the submitted thesis is to map existence of burnout syndrome in the nurse profession, to compare its existence according to the type department and to find out impact of the demographic characteristics on the burnout syndrome origin.Material and methods. In the empirical part we describe work method, data analyses, their processing and statistical testing. To collect information we used standardized questionnaire, Burnout Measure (BM) – burnout questionnaire. Acquired data are interpreted in charts.Results. Result of our research is to find out that existence of burnout syndrome in profession of nurse is considerable, while we do not observe significant differences between different types of workplace. We have identified by statistical processing the impact of demographic index on the occurrence of burnout syndrome. As statistically important we consider in light of burnout syndrome occurrence characteristic, age and duration of practice. Result of our research is to find out that existence of burnout syndrome in profession is considerable, while we do not observe significant differences between different types of workplace.Conclusions. Based on our results we recognize that it is necessary to strengthen the burnout syndrome prevention among nurses. The occurrence of burnout syndrome was confirmed in our study. The average value of BM indices in our sample was 3.40 for all nurses, a BM index of 3.44 for nurses in sample A and a BM index of 3.36 for nurses in group B. These average values of burnout clearly show that their averages are in the range of “presence of signals of burnout” In this category of the BM index there are significant signs of burnout, but it is not developed burnout syndrome. One alarming finding was that three nurses in sample B found themselves in BM index band 5, which means an emergency state in which it is necessary to seek professional help.

Abstract Burnout syndrome has an increasing incidence among intensive therapists because of high expectations and stress which leads to physical, mental and emotional exhaustion. Our aim was to examine the causes and severity of burnout in intensive care units. Maslach Burnout Inventory questionnaires were distributed among intensive care workers of an university and a town hospital. Socio-demographic data were also collected. The questionnaires were completed by 67 professionals, 28 doctors, 39 nurses. 43.4% suffered serious burnout, 23.52% high level of depersonalization, only 19.11% were satisfied with their accomplishments. Females showed higher incidence of burnout, especially those with chronic diseases (OR=3.33). According to our data, burnout was not related to family status and working hours, however there was significant correlation between satisfaction and weekly relaxation time (p = 0.0115). Burnout syndrome is spreading among intensive care employees, therefore its prevention should be a priority.

Burnout syndrome is considered a disease of modern societies. Research has shown that burnout is related to reduced performance in the workplace. Many times, burnout syndrome occurs in helping professions, such as healthcare or social services. The aim of this explanatory research is to determine the relationship between the degree of burnout syndrome, personality traits, and determinants of burnout syndrome of managers in public administration. The Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI) has been used to measure burnout syndrome. Personality traits, i.e., neuroticism, extraversion, openness to experience, five-factor inverters (NEO FFI), and assessing the determinants of burnout syndrome (PDSV) have been considered. The research sample consisted of (n = 226) managers in public administration. Based on the determined three hypotheses, we brought together sufficient evidence to provide more than a tentative conclusion that there is a positive association between NEO FFI and PDSV, MBI and PDSV, as well as MBI and NEO FFI. It can be inferred that a high workload and a lack of resources are some of the most compelling aspects that can instigate burnout. In addition to what has been assumed, there is argumentation among professionals about what is burnout, its symptoms, diagnostic criteria, environment of its occurrence, which demands further investigation to waive the vagueness and ambiguity of the concept of burnout syndrome.

SUMMARY OBJECTIVES: Burnout syndrome can be seen among health professionals at every stage of their careers. The incidence of burnout syndrome among health care professionals has increased in recent years and varies between countries and depending on different areas of specialization and work units. It is known that burnout syndrome significantly affects the work and social life of individuals. We aimed to investigate the effect of burnout syndrome on trauma and infection. METHODS: The study was conducted in the Alanya Alaaddin Keykubat University, Faculty of Medicine, Training and Research Hospital. All health professionals working at the hospital were included in the study. The Maslach Burnout Inventory was applied to the participants, who were asked about infective disease and trauma history over the past year. RESULTS: The total burnout rate was 77.8% among participants. We found that the rate of trauma and infective disease history was significantly high in employees who had burnout syndrome (p<0.05). CONCLUSION: Burnout syndrome is a common and important problem among health professionals that also has adverse effects on people's daily life, especially increasing the incidence of infection and trauma.

The student Burnout Syndrome is a response to chronic and severe stress linked to the role of the students and their academic context. This study aims at determining the prevalence and severity of the student Burnout Syndrome on a sample of midwifery students and its associated factors. The study is observational, cross-sectional, and analytical, with a sample of 140 students of a Chilean university. The study variables were as follows: sociodemographic background, academic profile, student Burnout Syndrome scale, and behaviors in everyday psychosocial activities. The instrument for measuring the Burnout Syndrome was the Unidimensional Scale of Student Burnout. For the analysis, descriptive statistics were used, and the association of the independent over the dependent variables was assessed through linear regression. Of the third-year students, 77.2% had a moderate or deep burnout level, which increases to 91.8% in the fourth-year students. A significant and direct association was found between the syndrome and the career year. A significant association was also found between the Burnout Scale and the scale of psychosocial risk behavior. All the students present some degree of Burnout Syndrome, which is related to both their studies and psychosocial risks.

While burnout syndrome has been by now frequently studied and described in literature, it has not been recognized as mental illness until now. The International Classification of Diseases 11th revision (ICD-11) includes the burnout syndrome in the category of occupational mental disorders. The present article describes the phenomenology of the burnout syndrome in order to demonstrate the complexity and length of treatment. Evolution of burnout syndrome and its individual stages described by Herbert J. Freudenberger are presented together with the three key dimensions of burnout by Christine Maslach. The treatment of burnout syndrome is often a lengthy and complex process. To illustrate this phenomenon, the author refers to her personal therapeutic experience with a group of clients diagnosed with burnout syndrome and subsequently undergoing individual psychotherapy in the form of Existential Analysis. As a psychotherapy method, Existential Analysis by Alfried Längle, works with the concept of four personal motivations as preconditions of a fulfilling life. Burnout syndrome is in this context understood as a loss of sense in an activity resulting from a long-term exhaustion.

This cross-sectional study examined the impact of adherence to Mediterranean diet on burnout syndrome risk in 94 athletes 8–15 years old. Diet pattern and burnout syndrome risk were assessed through the Athlete Burnout Questionnaire and the KIDMED Questionnaire. 55.3% of girls and 16.1% of boys had a high risk of burnout syndrome and the risk increased with age. Of the 78.7% with low adherence to Mediterranean diet, 31.1% showed no risk of burnout syndrome, 33.8% had a moderate risk, and 35.1% high risk. Of the 21.3% with a high adherence to Mediterranean diet, 35% had no risk of burnout syndrome, 45% had a moderate risk, and 20% had a high risk. Participants with moderate/high burnout syndrome risk were more likely to be girls and spend a higher number of hours watching television or playing video games. There is not enough statistical evidence in this study to reject the independence between the level of adherence to the Mediterranean diet and the risk of burnout syndrome in children, except in the case of daily consumption of fresh or cooked vegetables.

Introduction: Burnout syndrome is a condition caused by chronic stress at the workplace. Resilience is the ability to cope with the negative situations in life. Purpose: To evaluate the extent of burnout syndrome in nursing teachers at medical high schools and the effect of the level of resilience on burnout syndrome. Material and methods: This cross-sectional study interviewed 101 nursing teachers at four medical schools. Teacher Burnout Scale, The Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale and socio-demographic questionnaire have been used as instruments of the study. Results: The majority of nursing teachers had moderate symptom of burnout syndrome. The average result on the burnout scale was 56.1. Statistical analyzes showed that there is no statistically significant difference in the manifestation of burnout syndrome in teachers in relation to demographic characteristics (sex, marital status, years of work experience and subjects at medical school). By analysing the results of the two scales, it has been established that there is no statistically significant association between the burnout intensity and the degree of resilience in nursing teachers. Conclusion: The results of the study showed moderate level of burnout in nursing teachers. This may help as an encouragement to develop a strategy for preventing emergence of the burnout syndrome. The results will be useful for further research of burnout syndrome in nursing teachers.

Management of Diabetes Mellitus requires commitment and not infrequently makes the patient feel saturated and discouraged. This psychological disorder can result in the management of diet and its treatment. The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between Diabetes Burnout Syndrome and Self Care Agency Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus Patients. The study was a cross-sectional study that used Diabetes mellitus type 2 patients using a purposive sampling technique. This study used an instrument in the form of a Diabetes Burnout Syndrom questionnaire measured by an SMBM questionnaire. The Self Care Agency variable was measured using the SCDA (Summary of Self Care Diabetes Activities) questionnaire. Based on the results of this study indicated that most of the respondents have aged 51 to 60 years, male sex, educational background of primary school and have a history of Diabetes Mellitus disease for 1 to 5 years. Based on the research obtained almost all respondents have a low category of Diabetes Burnout Syndrome and have a Self Care Agency enough category. Spearman rho test results obtained relationship between Diabetes Burnout Syndrome with Self Care Agency (p = 0,000, cc = -0,875). It can be concluded that the lower the rate of Diabetes Burnout Syndrome the better the level of Self Care Agency Diabetes Mellitus Patients. Diabetic patients should be able to manage and minimize burnout syndrome that appears to improve independence in treatment and control of blood sugar.

Doctors are in continuous interaction with patients which leads to burnout syndrome. The purpose of this study was to investigate the levels of burnout syndrome among doctors and the role of medical specialty. Doctors (N=214) of various specialties and positions from two public hospitals completed the Maslach burnout inventory (MBI) which measures the burnout syndrome and its dimensions. Demographic and professional data were recorded. Data were analyzed via the IBM SPSS Statistics Version 21. The significance level was set at 0.05%. The overall index in the provincial hospital ranged at 2.13 while in the university at 2.07 (p=0.65). No significant statistical differences were observed between two hospitals regarding the dimensions of MBI. Internists showed lower level of personal accomplishment (Mean: 3.86, p=0.015) compared to all other specialties (Mean: 4.22, p=0.015). There was no significant statistical difference in the overall rate of burnout syndrome among the two hospitals, which was low for both hospitals. The factor “specialty” had an important effect on burnout syndrome.

The article shows that psychoemotional burnout is one of the most common syndromes, developing against the backdrop of continuous exposure to stressful situations, and it leads to intellectual, mental, and physical fatigue and exhaustion. The pedagogical activities of academics lead to burnout syndrome among most professionals of this occupation. The aim of the article is theoretical substantiation of the concept of burnout syndrome, experimental study of its symptoms characteristic of academics, and presentation of recommendations for its prevention. The study involved 59 academics of different ages and records of work. The analysis of literature sources allows stating that the study of the burnout syndrome among academics requires a further search for solutions. The academic profession is one of those for which burnout syndrome is the most common because the professional activity of academics is recognized as one of the most emotionally stressful. It was found that burnout is exhaustion, which manifests itself in emotional devastation and fatigue, and depersonalization, in particular, depersonalization of relationships with people. It is established that most teachers are characterized by inadequate emotional response, reduced interaction with colleagues, termination of professional responsibilities, the desire to stay alone, intensified emotional thriftiness. A pronounced feature for teachers is the reduction of personal achievements when they negatively assess themselves, their professional achievements and success, express professional integrity in a negative way, and limit their opportunities and responsibilities.

The features of the manifestation of burnout syndrome and its components in university professors are described. The relationship between the burnout components and coping strategies among teachers is considered. The differences in the leading coping strategies among teachers with high and low levels of burnout syndrome are revealed. The relationship between the components of burnout and protective mechanisms among teachers is revealed. The specifics of the manifestation of protective mechanisms among teachers with high and low levels of burnout syndrome is studied. The factor structure of the interconnection of burnout components, coping strategies and protective mechanisms among university professors is presented.

The activity of the military police officer can cause harm to the subject's mental and physical health, in addition to resulting in Burnout Syndrome. This syndrome is related to the suffering and mental exhaustion of workers, generating a major impact on their health and performance of their work activities. Therefore, the present study was carried out with military police officers from the Special Tactical Actions Group (GATE) of João Pessoa and Campina Grande – PB and its general objective was to analyze the presence of Burnout Syndrome in this population. The sample included 46 participants and the methodological approach refers to field research, with an exploratory-descriptive nature and a quantitative approach. Data were collected based on 2 instruments, a sociodemographic questionnaire and the Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI). Furthermore, through the results obtained, it was possible to verify that all research participants were male. And even though 72.3% of the police officers were located at some stage of the syndrome, especially in the initial phase, with a total of 62.1% of the participants. Therefore, the importance of implementing preventive measures and mental health support strategies to address Burnout syndrome among police officers is understood.

The problem of the development of emotional burnout syndrome in dentists is one of the most urgent problems of modern medicine. Currently, the authors do not have a single point of view on the essence of emotional burnout. Emotional burnout affects both the doctor and the patient. The solution to this problem requires further research. Objective. Based on the literature data, to identify the main factors of the development of emotional burnout of dentists, to analyze the existing strategies for overcoming stress and to determine which of them are applicable in the work of a dentist. Methods. The search for literature sources was carried out in three databases (e-library, PubMed, Web of Science) according to the keywords: “burnout syndrome in dentistry”, “burnout in dentistry”, “emotional stress in dentistry”, “strategies for overcoming stress in dentistry”, “coping strategies in dentistry”, “emotionally charged situations in dentistry”. 130 literary sources were analyzed. Criteria for inclusion: literature reviews, research, and articles on the personal point of view of specialists on the problem of emotional burnout, and on strategies for coping with stress in certified dentists. Exclusion criteria: articles on emotional burnout, stress, and depression in dental students. Results. Based on the analyzed literature on the topic of the development of emotional burnout syndrome in dentists, there is no single point of view on the essence of emotional burnout. Some authors consider it as a type of stress, othersthe result of the influence of stressful factors, against which pathological processes develop, such as: headache, problems of the cardiovascular system, exacerbation of chronic diseases, pain in the spine. The psychological state of burnout can adversely affect a person’s health, family relationships, and service interactions. Conclusion. This paper presents the main approaches to determining the essence of the burnout syndrome, a systematic analysis and generalization of materials on the problem in the professional activities of dentists. Emotional burnout affects both the doctor and the patient. The solution to this problem requires further research.

Burnout syndrome, characterized by chronic unmanageable workplace stress, has been linked to lower gastrointestinal disorders, including irritable bowel syndrome. However, the relationship between burnout syndrome and irritable bowel syndrome among medical health providers and medical students in Saudi Arabia has not been fully explored. This cross-sectional correlational study was conducted in Southern Saudi Arabia from 2021 to 2022 and involved 931 medical health providers and medical students who completed an electronic questionnaire. The study assessed the presence and severity of burnout and irritable bowel syndrome and examined their relationship. Burnout syndrome was evaluated using the Maslach Burnout Inventory-Student Survey (MBI-SS), while irritable bowel syndrome criteria and severity were assessed using validated tools. The study found that 85% of medical health providers and medical students experienced high levels of burnout and irritable bowel syndrome severity, with physicians and nurses mainly affected. Occupational exhaustion was high in 44.4% of participants, while depersonalization was high in 53% of participants. Personal accomplishment was low in 73.5% of participants. Mild, moderate, and severe irritable bowel syndrome was reported in 25.6%, 23.8%, and 12% of participants, respectively. The study highlights a significant association between burnout syndrome and irritable bowel syndrome severity among medical health providers and medical students in Saudi Arabia. These findings underscore the importance of developing effective interventions to prevent and manage burnout syndrome and related health issues among healthcare professionals and medical students in the region.

The Covid-19 pandemic significantly impacts the mental health of health workers, including leading to the occurrence of burnout syndrome. Health workers in Dr. Soebandi Regional Hospital, as a regional referral hospital for Covid-19, were potentially exposed to the risk of experiencing burnout syndrome. Effective coping strategies might alleviate burnout syndrome symptoms. Therefore, this study was conducted to analyze the correlation of coping strategies and burnout syndrome level among health workers at Dr. Soebandi Regional Hospital. This cross-sectional study conducted from November to December 2021 included 88 physicians and nurses of Dr. Soebandi Regional Hospital. Data were collected using the Brief Cope Inventory and the Maslach Burnout Inventory Questionnaires. The SPSS spearman rho analysis showed a weak significant positive correlation of maladaptive coping strategies and burnout syndrome level (r=0.263; p=0.0013). The self-blame coping strategy had a weak significant positive correlation with burnout syndrome level (r=0.267; p=0.0012). We recommend to develop programs to protect health workers from becoming secondary victims of various adverse events and counseling provision to doctors and nurses regarding appropriate coping strategies for stress management at work. Background: During the COVID-19 pandemic, the workload of health professionals grew significantly, particularly in the service sector. Such heavy workload, particularly for those working on the front lines, can result to burnout syndrome.Objective: To find the correlation between long-term COVID-19 service personnel characteristics and burnout syndrome symptoms at hospitals.Methods: This cross-sectional, analytic study was done on health workers that managed COVID-19 at Palembang Muhammadiyah Hospital and Palembang BARI Hospital in South Sumatra, Indonesia. Purposive sampling was used to sample, with 88 samples total that satisfied the inclusion and exclusion criteria. A questionnaire was filled out to collect the data.Results: Based on the research results of data sets, there was a correlation between age and burnout syndrome (p=0.000), sex and burnout syndrome (p=0.006), COVID-19 service period and burnout syndrome (p=0.002), working hours per day and burnout syndrome (p=0.014), and marital status and burnout syndrome (p=0.013).Conclusion: Long-term COVID-19 service personnel and burnout syndrome symptoms in those hospitals are directly interrelated.International Journal of Human and Health Sciences Vol. 07 No. 02 April’23 Page: 117-121

Burnout syndrome (BS) is the result of chronic stress in the workplace. Moreover, chronic stress can affect sleep. A unidirectional relationship has been established between burnout and sleep, and it is known that white-collar workers with burnout syndrome have sleep fragmentation and marked daytime sleepiness. Objective: The aim of this study was to assess the relationships between burnout and sleep quality in elementary school teachers in Mexico. Methods: We collected data from more than 400 teachers who completed tests. Correlation analyses controlled for anxiety and depression, and Poisson logistic regression analyses were performed to examine the relationships of burnout with sleep quality, depression, and anxiety. Results: There was a significant correlation between burnout syndrome (mainly in the dimension of emotional exhaustion) and sleep disturbances; significant correlations were also observed with other burnout, depression, and anxiety dimensions. The strength of the correlations decreased after controlling for depression and anxiety. Conclusions: The symptoms of burnout syndrome in teachers can overlap with sleep disorders, so it is necessary to make a differential diagnosis to differentiate burnout syndrome from depression and anxiety, among others.

Pendahuluan: Kepemimpinan adalah unsur terpenting dan merupakan penentu kelancaran sistem pelayanan di rumah sakit. Kepemimpinan efektif merupakan kemampuan seorang kepala ruangan dalam memberikan keseimbangan antara pemberian tugas dan mengelola ketenagaan serta menfasilitasi pemecahan masalah dalam ruangan. Burnout syndrome adalah perilaku menarik diri secara psikologis dari pekerjaan dalam afeksi terhadap stress yang berlebihan. Tujuan: Penelitian untuk menganalisis hubungan kepemimpinan efektif kepala ruangan dengan burnout syndrome perawat. Metode: Desain penelitian korelasi menggunakan pendekatan cross sectional dengan populasi perawat di ruang rawat inap. Sampel penelitian adalah 40 pasien dengan teknik sampling Sampling Jenuh. Variabel independen adalah kepemimpinan efektif dan variabel dependen burnout syndrome. Pengumpulan data melalui kuesioner kepemimpinan efektif dan burnout syndrome dianalisis dengan Uji Spearman Rho. Hasil: Penelitian menunjukkan terdapat hubungan kepemimpinan efektif kepala ruangan dengan burnout syndrome perawat di ruang rawat inap (p=0,001<α=0,05). Kesimpulan: Berdasarkan hasil yang didapat kejadian burnout syndrome perawat berhubungan dengan kepemimpinan yang efektif. Perlunya upaya perbaikan sistem kerja untuk mengurangi dan menyesuaikan beban kerja perawat serta memperbaiki efektifitas kepemimpinan di ruangan untuk menghindarkan terjadinya burnout syndrome pada perawat

Background: Economic Globalization affects work condition by increasing work stress. Chronic work stress ended with burnout syndrome. Objectives: To estimate the prevalence of burnout syndrome and the association of job title, and violence with it among physicians in Baghdad, and to assess the burnout syndrome at patient and work levels by structured interviews. Subjects and Methods: A cross section study was conducted on Physicians in Baghdad. Sampling was a multistage, stratified sampling to control the confounders in the design phase. A mixed qualitative and quantitative approach (triangulation) was used. Quantitative method used self-administered questionnaires of Maslach Burn out Inventory. Qualitative approach used an open-ended question modified from Copenhagen Burnout Inventory by face-to-face interviews. An ordinal logistic regression used in the analysis phase to overcome confounders. Results: The percentages of emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, and feeling of inefficacy were 72.5%, 31.9%, and 12.7% respectively. Total burnout syndrome was 56.4%. Being single and hospital workers were significantly associated with emotional exhaustion (p=0.006, 0.001 respectively) and total burnout syndrome (p=0.017, 0.016 in sequence). In addition to emotional exhaustion and burnout syndrome, singles suffered from depersonalization (p=0.010). Administrative responsibilities made physicians less liable for emotional exhaustion but more prone to feeling of inefficacy (p=0.038, 0.017 respectively). Less than 40-year age group had a relation with depersonalization, p=0.003, and total burnout syndrome p=0.013. Being male was significant with total burnout syndrome, p=0.008. All Violence types were associated significantly with burnout syndrome and its dimensions, p=0.001 (except feeling of inefficacy in which only threat was significant with it, p=0.054). In qualitative part, the response rate was 80%. It was formulated from 3 themes. Highest percentages in these themes were gained by female and graded physicians. Conclusion: Burnout affects over half of Baghdad’s doctor. Violence was significant to burnout syndrome but job title was not. In qualitative part female and graded physicians were most groups to be affected.
