Modern economic conditions are characterized by dynamism and complexity, in¬creased competitive confrontation at product markets, rapid changes of the market environment that leads to intensification of the search for advanced approaches to human resource management. Employees, their qualifications and experience are one of the most important factors, without which any prospects of economic growth are neutralized. The purpose of this paper is to substantiate the essence of human resources as a category of accounting, which is a prerequisite for formation of theoretical and methodological basis of their representation in the context of value-based business management implementation policy. The article substantiates the essence of human resources as the total number of employees at the company, who are carriers of human assets accumulated in themselves and inseparable from themselves, such as physical abilities, education, experience and professional knowledge that, in conjunction with using the elements of accounting method, creates the basis for presentation of human assets as the company’s right to use them as a part of intangible assets. Implementation of suggested approach to understand accounting nature of human resources, based on recognition of company’s right to use human assets carried by employees, creates a prerequisite for displaying information about them in the system of accounts and reports of the company that meets the needs of value-based management.

AbstractThis paper has taken an insight to the systemic models of family business from the open systems perspective. I focus on family business system models and on the subsystems content of family system and ownership system in family business context. The paper claim that the open system perspective on intercultural family businesses has both theoretical and empirical implications on family business research. Family businesses have many reasons, including family conflicts over money, nepotism leading to wrong management, and infighting over the succession of power from one generation to the other. Regulating the family’s roles as shareholders, board members, and managers is very important because it can help avoid these pitfalls. This paper will discuss the importance of the openness of the company through five the attributes of enduring family businesses: ownership, family, business and portfolio governance, wealth management, foundation. Dimension of attributes success have taken family business like five jewelers.

Synopsis This case about the Core Business School enunciates the development of a performance appraisal criterion for the faculty members. The case highlights the situation when despite the administration of an appraisal process for the academic year 2012-2013, there was a uniform increment announced which was lower than the previous year’s increment on the pretext that the admission numbers for the next academic session were much low. The faculty and staff were in a dilemma of whether to continue in such an organization where the absence of a formal appraisal system would hamper their career progression or wait for another year for things to change. Research methodology This case is developed after an in-depth interview with the dean academics and the HR faculty of the Core Business School who headed the designing of the performance appraisal system and thereafter its implementation. Relevant courses and levels This case can be used for the elective course on performance management or human resource management course in MBA program.

Purpose – Business process management (BPM) is still mostly associated with methods and software tools for process modeling, automation and redesign/performance analysis, with limited effort toward building and applying interdisciplinary approaches which capture the real complexity of business processes. The purpose of this paper is to elaborate a system view of BPM and presents an actionable body of knowledge to enhance process-related decisions and actions within organizations. Design/methodology/approach – A design science approach is used to build a conceptual contribution based on extended process management literature and a multi-year author experience in the area of business process engineering in both research and education contexts. Findings – A business process management system includes strategy, model, execution and performance dimensions whereas the management of a process involves activities related to scope, structure, resource, systems, dependency, exception, performance and external integration. Research limitations/implications – The frameworks and related definitions need further theoretical development and refinement in terms of the components and reciprocal relations among system and activity elements. In this vein, the study would also benefit from real-life applications and empirical analysis. Practical implications – The paper can support process implementation, maturity assessment and competence development efforts within organizations as well as be a foundational work to advance the creation of a global body of knowledge on process management. Originality/value – The paper proposes a holistic perspective on BPM as a system of components and a bundle of activities, thus providing a twofold strategic and operational tool for process analysts and managers at different levels.

The current development of the economy and the state of the banking system provokes significant changes in the functioning of banks, especially in conditions of economic and political instability. Rapid response to external and internal factors that affect the development of the banking business is the main task of the bank’s management entity. That is why the issue of management system of banking business development becomes especially significant, which determines the relevance of the chosen topic and the feasibility of the carried out research for the development of the issue. The article examines the statutes of existing Ukrainian banks and determines that the management system of banking business development is formed by three higher governing bodies of the bank that is the general meeting of the bank, the supervisory board and the bank’s board. The purpose of the article is to determine the organizational system of the bank, which is part of the overall management system of the banking business. In the process of analysis of the methods of theoretical and empirical research (system method, method of comparison, method of generalization, scientific abstraction, tabular method) and others are applied. The project of standard powers of exclusive competence of the general meeting of bank participants, the project of standard functions of exclusive competence of the bank’s supervisory board and the project of standard competences of the board for improving the internal management system of banking business development are proposed in the article. These three high governing bodies provide full management of the bank’s development. They determine the bank’s development strategy and implement it as well as control the financial condition of the bank and its compliance with current legislation of Ukraine and certain areas of development of the bank, share the full range of strategic, tactical and operational functions for managing banking development, ensuring the integrity of the management system of the banking business in general and its development in particular.

The essence of «business system» concept is investigated in this paper. Approaches to business systems management, such as process, commercial, practice-oriented and organizational are identified. In this investigation, the business system considers business as a system consisting of certain components: processes, resources, suppliers, consumers, competitors, owners, investors, managers, employees, so that management by systems and processes forms a structure and sequence of actions to achieve the set goal. The main elements of business systems are specified. Taking into account the fact that business system operates and develops in dynamic global business space, its internal and external components are characterized. The internal component of the business space includes a set of functional subsystems of the enterprise such as marketing, production, finance etc. The external component of the business space is a multilevel system, including the enterprise contractors; controlling institutional organizations; infrastructure facilities involved in business system operation; markets for goods and services, capital, labor, information providing business system with necessary resources; conditions of activity in the relevant sector, segment; potential of business system. Each element being a part of business system requires management actions to coordinate the situation and improve the current situation. The main tasks of business systems that ensure effective, competitive and effective management decisions are revealed and analyzed. The essential features of business systems are grouped, their specific criteria are defined. The influence of business processes on the state of business systems is determined; business systems from the standpoint of the impact of the global business space are classified and recommendations for managing the business systems development in today's global environment are given. It is revealed that management of business systems development is realized by using the appropriate organizational mechanism, which applies a systematic approach to strategy formation, providing stable development, focusing on the goals of the activity, using modern management technologies. The investigation of business systems makes it possible to combine all the elements of the enterprise and interrelated steps of activity to form the enterprise strategy. Effective management of business systems provides the improvement of enterprise performance, which characterizes the state of business processes and effectiveness of the developed strategy.

Many water suppliers in Japan are required to renew aged waterworks facilities systematically in spite of the decline in revenues due to the decrease in the population. Moreover, they are needed to build waterworks facilities with high earthquake resistance. Therefore, it is necessary for water suppliers to manage waterworks effectively and efficiently in order to build sustainable waterworks. In this paper, to support sound business management, a method of water asset management is arranged systematically. And also an actual example with this systematic method in a water supplier is introduced in which reduction of renewal costs by optimization of ability of the waterworks facilities and setting renewal cycle standards is explained. Furthermore, a perspective of renewal costs taking into account the acceleration of earthquake-resistance strengthening plan and equalization of renewal demands is shown.

Justifying the development of a business intelligence system is challenging when the primary beneficiaries of the system are internal to the company responsible for that development; it is even harder to justify when the system is designed to produce a new service that is radically different than current in-house manufactured products. This case explores the possibility of a tire manufacturer developing a business intelligence system to help their customers manage very large heavy equipment tires within the mining industry. These tires are one of the biggest expenses for mining companies and this case discusses the opportunity to use business intelligence to manage that expense. This case encourages discussion of such topics as: the issues involved in system initiation from technology personnel, the need to incorporate both real-time and historical data in a system, the need for technology personnel to have deep knowledge of an application domain, and the challenges that arise from integrating data produced by disparate systems.

Information system must provide data, information and adequate information technology for: the running of the business process, management (subsystems and business functions etc.), expertise basics for management decision-making and, main business system management. In business systems three dimensions determine management, namely: executive body management, adaptation and development, which includes business processes as well. Therefore we can distinguish two basic business system application fields: a) information executive body subsystem, b) information subsystem development. Information subsystem development provides all the necessary data and information required for the adaptation projects carried out by managers and personnel as well as for the business system development. These projects are carried out on the business system and subsystem level. Information system project is an information system aimed at fulfilling information demands of the main system project, of the maintaining system project, as well as of the project system management. These projects are the result of strategies carried out within business systems. They are aimed at transforming strategies into projects, which are then carried out by business systems in a determined period of time. The quick transformation of strategies into projects together with the quick and higher quality performance, give rise to an advantage in business system competition.

The article presents the methodical recommendations on planning the reengineering procedure of industrial enterprises. The industrial enterprise reengineering is defined as an effective management tool to overcome the inertia that arises in the process of managing industrial enterprises, to optimize the management system and to rebuild ineffective business processes. It has been stated that reengineering makes it possible for any economic system to function successfully, to adapt to changing environmental conditions, to increase manageability and to achieve goals in the shortest possible time and with the least expenditure of resources. The planning stage is the key in the development of a reengineering project for an industrial enterprise. The tasks of planning the reengineering procedure, the stages of implementation and their content are determined. In the context of the description of the first two stages, the criteria are given for determining the stage of the crisis, at which the industrial enterprise currently is, and the typology of business process reengineering, according to three classification criteria: depending on the extent of transformations, on the size of the industrial enterprise, on the initiator. The third stage contains recommendations for choosing a reengineering technique depending on the stage of the crisis and the type of reengineering. A classification of the reengineering methods recommended for use in carrying out radical (crisis) reengineering and reengineering of development has been developed. Recommendations are given on the formation of a system of targets for an industrial enterprise reengineering project. It is advisable to use the system of balanced indicators (Balanced Scorecard) and the system of target indicators KPI as effective tools for creating a system of targets. Both of these approaches are elements of targeted management or management by goals, and make it possible to evaluate the economic, resource and functional effectiveness of a reengineering project

Doing business in a competitive environment is based on the fact that the efficient use of enterprise resources is impossible without making relevant changes in the field of business management as well as taking into consideration the links that determine new trends in enterprise management. In this situation high management technologies such as outsourcing take a pride of place. Outsourcing is important in reducing costs, decreasing operation time, increasing profits, enhancing competitiveness, signing up contracts, improving business relationships and etc. Paying significant attention to outsourcing in business management is an urgent problem nowadays. It is necessary to determine the importance of outsourcing in the strategic activities of the enterprise and highlight the correlation among management functions and certain types of outsourcing services. This confirms the significance and the necessity of studying this question. A category of outsourcing as one of the most effective management tools for increasing the efficiency of business processes is considered in this article. The scientists’ statements about outsourcing as successful business management strategy as well as an efficient tool for managing the activities of the enterprise are presented. The importance of business processes outsourcing in the field of business management is investigated. The directions of defining the concept of “outsourcing” within the framework of the management approach considering the representation of understanding its nature are studied. The outsourcing of basic and auxiliary functions with the distribution of business processes at the enterprise is distinguished. Types of outsourcing according to business processes within each management function such as planning, organization, motivation, control and regulation are considered. The relationship among the functions of the enterprise management system, the types of outsourcing and the types of enterprise business processes is demonstrated. The main processes that the company plans to improve as a result of their outsourcing are highlighted. The significance of business processes outsourcing as a part of the company’s crisis program is clarified.

Patient safety and quality of health care services continue to be an issue within healthcare organizations. Quality improvement of healthcare processes at a systems level requires a shared language so the system is well understood across and between business areas. Business ontology provides the ability to create a shared language which can be used to integrate business process management (BPM) and business architecture (BA) concepts to identify, prioritize, and plan system wide improvement. The effective application of this comprehensive management approach has been demonstrated using medication management services within a publicly funded Canadian healthcare organization. This article illustrates how the foundational ontology developed by the Global University Alliance and the related Business Process Management Ontology (BPMO) can be used to facilitate the integration of BA and BPM concepts to improve quality of medication management. The development of business artefacts resulted in a prioritized list of improvement initiatives and an action plan to implement and monitor the initiatives. The integration of BPM and BA using an ontology in a healthcare setting yields improved services at the systems level.

The basic requirement for a quality business management is the availability of required information. Information architecture of enterprise and accounting should create unit, which allows to synchronize opportunities of the enterprise information system with the requirements of managers for management and decision. The main objective of this article is to present the accounting as an essential source for business management with emphasis on the availability of accounting information in real time. In order to meet the objective were applied basic methods of analysis, synthesis, and deduction. We used the informational sources from available domestic and foreign literature. Data of analysis are derived using the method of structured questionnaire, applied in the chosen set of enterprises (30 agri-food enterprises), and selected software products. To meet the objective of the paper we used also another methods: observation and interviews with managers in selected companies, information system providers, developers of software companies. We accomplished the analysis of current situation on the market with business information systems. After the synthesis and comparison of obtained data, we concluded the results that are presented in this paper. The outcome of our research is the fact that managers require actual, objective information with an immediate overview of important economic indicators and remote access to such information. Accounting as an integrating tool of business information system meets all the stated requirements and in combination with the latest technologies, such as open source software and cloud solutions, is an indispensable information source for business management.

The role of the current business competition in addition to the strategic competition, adjust the marketing model that focuses on reaching the customer exactly. One thing that is no less important than having a concept and adaptation that requires high market flexibility is the business management process. Starting from the process of receiving raw materials to get into the production process, send to the warehouse department to store the products systematically, including deliver the products to consumers promptly. For this reason, many companies around the world have adopted a warehouse management system for predicting, forecasting and checking the status of the products any time. It causes more efficient in internal business process management. At the same time, the type and size of the business cannot apply the same warehouse management system. With different type, size and form of operation process, many companies have an investment situation with an inefficient use of an information system in the organization. It is a wrong decision in applying various systems without considering the related factors. For the study and development of inventory management systems for frozen food business in Thailand, since there are many businesses facing problems of error checking product process, affecting other processes such as raw material forecasting for production, etc. In addition, they are small and medium-sized businesses which their working process managed by the business owner with not many employees. Investment in the use of information systems is therefore a risk in investing and adjusting the form of operations. The result of this research is to analysis the problem and to summarize the requirements for the development of inventory management systems in frozen food business in Thailand in order to respond to the operation process systematically.

Supply chain management provides a new kind of enterprise relationship management for ensuring the survival and development of enterprises in modern market competition, but with the development of business, information explosion, and the acceleration of business globalization, supply chain management will become increasingly complex. This article provides a method to construct the enterprise supply chain systems from the perspective of the business process management. It utilizes service-oriented architecture to achieve the componentization of each business unit, which makes chain system adapt to the changes of business processes rapidly and deploy these changes into IT system. Ultimately, IT systems can respond to supply chain system in time and then reduce operation costs and time when enterprise is carrying out business restructuring and process optimization.

Purpose. Since the venture business is a catalyst for structural adjustment and technological renewal of the country’s economic complex, small firms with the support of venture capital effectively create and sell innovations that become the basis of new economy sectors. Effective organization of venture activity requires analysis of the main trends in developing organizational forms of venture business and the creation of venture funds. This article aims to form a coherent system of indicators for evaluating the effectiveness of venture projects to manage the energy of venture business and the characteristics of these indicators. Scientists and their features present the analysis of available indicators or systems of indicators for evaluating the effectiveness of venture business. Design/methodology/approach. This study used both general scientific methods, empirical and theoretical, in particular, the process of analysis (in the study of indicators for evaluating the effectiveness of venture business), synthesis (in the formation of a coherent system of indicatorsfor assessing the effectiveness of venture business), generalization and explanation, classification, and also system (for coordination of the system of hands). Also, unique research methods were used, in particular, formal-logical and comparative forms ofscientific knowledge. Findings. The article’s indicators of evaluating the effectiveness of venture investments in innovative projects have been investigated and analyzed. A critical analysis of methodological approaches to assessing the effectiveness of venture capital has been done. It is proposed to evaluate the effectiveness of venture projects on such indicators as internal rate of return, modified internal rate of return, net present value, payback period, discounted payback period, the profitability of sales, average rate of return, discounted profitability index, and contribution index-adequate assessment of the balance of indicators for assessing the effectiveness of venture investments. Practical implications. The article proposes to evaluate the effectiveness of venture projects on such indicators as internal rate of return, modified internal rate of return, net present value, payback period, discounted payback period, the profitability of sales, average rate of return, discounted profit index and profit income which will contribute to obtaining a comprehensive and adequate assessment of the balance of indicators for assessing the effectiveness of venture investments. The formation of a coherent system of indicators for evaluating the effectiveness of venture projects will manage venture business efficiency. The intensification of venture activity in Ukraine requires developing an integrated approach, covering institutional development, legislation, and macroeconomic regulation. The story of venture business will contribute to achieving the most critical state goals: the improvement of the innovation sphere and increasing the competitiveness of the domestic economy by entering world markets. The practical application of methods for assessing investment effectiveness is carried out using indicators NPV, IRR, PP, and others. The formation of a portfolio of innovative projects based on linear programming’s classical problem can not be applied in full. That is why today, it is essential to solving issues related to the development and improvement of methods and models of venture risk analysis, assessing the attractiveness of innovative projects, and forming a creative portfolio by a venture company. The participation of venture investors in the capital ofstartups is attractive for several reasons: the presence of venture funds in shareholders tells partners and potential employees that the audit of the company means that the business is transparent and the funds risked their money in terms of growth prospects; venture capitalists help in management. After all, they have experience supporting and developing similar startups; you can use the fund’s companies’ expertise, for example, in organizing sales or preparing for an IPO. Finally, investor connections open up partnerships with other companies, attracting experienced professionals, such as marketing, commercial, financial, executive director. But experts go only to projects with a clear business structure, and venture funds guarantee its presence. Because venture investors, as mentioned above, have a foundational approach to the companies they finance and are initially focused on leaving the company by selling their stake to a strategic investor, company management, or the stock market, the key to success for them, in our view, is a growth company value.

The article is devoted to the generalization of theoretical aspects and practical recommendations for improving the asset management system in modern conditions. To build an effective system, the object of management — assets — is studied in detail. The approaches to understanding the essence of assets, namely value, financial and property, are singled out. The ratio of such concepts as “current assets”, “working capital” and “working capital” is studied, their common and different characteristics are determined. The current assets are grouped according to different classification features and their significance in the production process is determined. It is substantiated that the grouping of current assets is primarily of practical importance, allowing to build a clear system of accounting and analysis of the availability and movement of current assets and to form an effective system of their management by individual types. A thorough analysis of the interpretations of the concept of “asset management” available in the scientific literature has been made, and several approaches to its understanding have been identified. The conducted research made it possible to form an author's definition of the current assets management system. It is determined that the current assets management system should be based on an integrated approach, the components of which are objects and subjects of management, purpose, basic principles and functions, methods and tools of influence, formalized quantitative and qualitative criteria for achieving goals, and factors forming the operating environment of the object. The characteristic of each element of the system is given, in particular the subjects and objects of management are concretized, their interaction is considered, the purposes and tasks are outlined. It is determined that the functions of the management system are controlling, stabilizing and analytical, and the principles on which it is based — timeliness, unity, continuity, optimality and rationality. The implementation of the current assets management system involves the implementation of a number of successive measures in the form of certain stages, which are considered in the work. The proposed system of current assets management will predict the choice of management strategy of the entity in the long run and increase the overall efficiency of its operation.

The current hyper-competitive environment offers many great opportunities for small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs), but on the other hand, this business environment is also hazardous. SMEs are a significant economic power and employer in the European Union. Their competitiveness and long-term stability are a crucial factor for European cohesion and economic growth. The research aim is to design a strategic management controlling system that should be implemented to SMEs and be useful for their long-term future development. The study was conducted in 2017–2020 based on data from 403 SMEs. The PAPI method was used to collect data. The implications between defined variables controlling, ROA, turnover, financial analysis, and strategic management were explained, and the results obtained from an in-depth analysis were indicated. The research was concluded by a model of strategic management controlling system tested by experimental in-practice implementation on SMEs and verified. The model and the research findings are suitable for business practice and should support the long-term stability and development of SMEs. Indonesia is one of the largest culinary attractions in Southeast Asia. The culinary diversity in Indonesia encourages stakeholders to create restaurant businesses with effective and efficient business processes. One of the efforts to make the restaurant business process effective and efficient is to build a restaurant management information system. By using a system, business actors will be able to control and evaluate their business with appropriate reports. For this reason, the purpose of this study is to build a restaurant management information system using the RAD (Rapid Application Development) method, because building this application requires a systematic, structured, and object-oriented process. The RAD method emphasizes a high quality systems, fast development and delivery and low costs development process [1] so that this process requires a serious role from business actors to build a restaurant management information system. The results of this system design can make it easier for business actors to control the business process from the customer to the kitchen so that the food and beverage ordering process will be served quickly. The GUI restaurant management information system is made interactively so that customers and business actors can easily understand the system. The test results of this system use black-box testing, with the conclusion that the system is successful to run.

There are few activities so susceptible to the impacts of the macro environment as tourism. In conditions of growing uncertainty, the importance of strategic management is steadily increasing. By studying the environment, by anticipating the future development and implication of trends on enterprises, and by developing appropriate strategies at a number of levels, strategic management seeks to actively influence the increase o f competitive advantages o f both the tourist destinations and tourist enterprises. The term “strategic management” implies a set of management decisions and actions that determine the long-term operations o f enterprises within the management system of tourism: guiding the enterprise by anticipating crucial environmental impacts and internal factors. This management concept is based on the assumption that making properly oriented strategic decisions minimizes the negative effects of the environment and creates strategic advantages for enterprises that can be capitalised only in the medium and long term (Čizmar S. (2001) Strateško upravljanje u funkciji učinkovitog razvoja turističkog ugostiteljstva u Hrvatskoj, doctoral dissertation, University o f Zagreb, Faculty of Economics, Zagreb, p. 3). It represents an integrated approach to strategic management that is the most acceptable for the development of Croatian tourism, as long-term positive results, in both market and financial terms, can be achieved by enterprises within the tourism management system of Croatia only by applying an integrated approach to strategic management, by horizontally and vertically linking the elements of all subsystems of the entire management system and by creating partnering relationships. The Croatian model of strategic management should involve the economic optimisation of all subsystems and systems by establishing efficiency not only across all subsystem elements, but through the system as a whole as well. The level of growth in entrepreneurship and innovations will determine the intensity and speed of positive development changes. These changes will also depend on establishing management responsibilities throughout all segments and managements levels of all subsystems, as well as tourism as an integral system. This paper deals with the issues of strategic management at a micro level with special emphasis on the development of responsibility for managing performance and capital investments.

Queue management is a crucial part of service industry. Business has to deal with the uncertainty of arrival customer and the trade-off between the costs of providing capacity and customer satisfaction. Matching service capacity with the arrival customer is difficult so the system utilization is low in the low periods and customers have to wait for a long time in the peak period. Due to long waiting, some customer abandons the queue before receiving service. Customer abandonment affects business revenue and the system utilization. To relieve the effect of the customer abandonment, this paper aims to propose Artificial Neural Network based waiting time predictor with queue reservation system. The proposed system increases the system utilization and increase customer satisfaction at the same time. Instead of abandonment, customers can reserve their place in queue if the waiting time is too long and they can do other activities while waiting. Moreover, the proposed system provides the accurate estimated waiting time to each customer instead of queue-length. The accurate waiting time enables arrival customers to better decide on the reservation options. 95% of our predicted waiting time is accurate within 5 minutes. Comparing to the system without the queue reservation system, the system utilization and the number of the arrival customer completed service improve 13% and 54% respectively

The quantitative study is in the form of modalities, in which the questionnaires are used as a tool to analyze the samples of 16 fuel companies in Lao PDR (From 27 companies, there are 2 companies that will be closed due to business practice that were inconsistent with the Lao law as well as in 2016, there are 8 new companies which are licensed by the government but the business is still not formal and steady, and yet, 16 companies were still continued to operate their business for a while in Lao PDR). The relationship format consists of 6 independent variables and 4 dependent variables which analyzes data with a statistical endpoint for the integration of variables. The result shows that Structural Equation Model has a relationship with independent variables that influences business planning and setting up management system in accordance with business’s target needs and employees can use as a guideline to follow their work instructions as well as understand their work performance in order to carry out its work and well-planned to achieve the company business goals as well as the benefits they will get in the future.

The purpose of the study is to identify the factors influencing the management of the activity of small businesses and to provide recommendations for its development through the resolution of crisis issues that prevent businesses from achieving strategic prospects and stable profits. The main factors for reducing the effectiveness of small businesses have been identified on the basis of the results of the questionnaire survey of one level of managers (small business directors), which should be taken into account in the formation of strategic management decisions and long-term development strategies. It is found that many of the factors are subject to managerial influence, which minimizes the negative impact on the performance of small business entities. The hypothesis that the main tool for stimulating small business development remains the state has confirmed with the help of research, but there is an urgent objective need to identify other factors that influence the activities of small businesses that impede their development and lead to closure. The study suggests that only a balance between the internal environment of small businesses and the regulatory framework of the state will allow them to work effectively in market conditions and provide the national economy with money. The authors present a position on the organization of a small business entity management system that reflects the links between processes and events in a market environment. The presented approach takes into account a number of elements of influence on a small business when forecasting its development in a strategic perspective. The results of the study showed that it is necessary to clearly identify the tasks at each stage of development of a small business entity, to form alternative models of its development by looking for ways to optimize activities and opportunities to avoid possible risks.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to develop and test a theoretical model to measure the impact of enterprise resource planning (ERP) and customer relationship management (CRM) systems and moderating relationships of system and process integration on business value. Design/methodology/approach ERP and CRM systems are analysed with the resource-based view theory and measured by their impact on business value, having in consideration the moderation of system and process integration. The model was tested and analysed with data collected by Microsoft, from firms that have adopted both ERP and CRM systems in their organisation. Findings ERP system is found to be an important asset to business value, but CRM systems’ impact on business value is found to be not significant. System integration as moderator of ERP or CRM system is found to be not significant but has a positive and significant impact on business value. For process integration, the study finds that it is significant only when moderating the CRM system variable. Research limitations/implications The model shows that the moderating effects of system and process integration are important variables for understanding the joint business value of ERP and CRM. Practical implications Adopting an ERP system and ensuring system integration provides a direct impact on business value. In order for a CRM system to have a positive impact on business value, process integration with ERP system must be ensured. Originality/value This study provides new knowledge on how ERP and CRM systems used together may positively influence value from IT investments, and how systems integration and process integration provide business value.

Business schools have been using information for years to improve the efficiency of academic services and effectiveness of academic programs. As more trustees, administrators, faculty, parents, students have begun to seek better outcomes, not surprisingly these schools are investing in technology. But these schools are finding that technology implementation does not necessarily improve decision-making nor does it necessarily improve outcomes and decision-making. This paves the way to recognise the urgent need for Knowledge Management (KM) which is a key asset. A big and major crucial feature of business schools is that they are made up of a number of nested systems. In analytical terms, this can also be described as levels or units. These levels range from faculty, student, research, administration, academics and placement. The reports in business schools are numerous as the requirement of reports from level to level is difficult. Analytical needs differ, but are present at every level of the system. A robust KM system must reflect the information needs of all levels. In particular, data must be gathered at all levels to the user in a fine-grained manner. This paper explores the application KM to business schools and in particular in support of the sharing of knowledge resources. This paper considers the critical role played by the "sharing of knowledge resources" in one of top business schools, Test Business School — TBS (pseudonym is used to mask the institution name) in India.
