Abstract In Georgia, crucian carp Carassius carassius (Linnaeus, 1758) was known from only one locality after Kessler’s record (1877–1878) with no new findings until 1985. Since then C. carassius rapidly and simultaneously invaded almost all water bodies of Georgia. In 2004, it was for the first time noted that this invasive Carassius sp. could not be a C. Carassius, but was a form of Carassius gibelio (Bloch, 1792). However no further data is available about this invasive species in Georgia. The aim of the present study was to investigate taxonomic status of Carassius sp. in Georgia using mtD

Carassius auratus var. suogu, an endemic fish in southern China, is a natural triploid crucian carp mutant. In this study, the characteristics of mitochondrial DNA sequences were analyzed to understand their taxonomic status and genetic background at the gene level. The complete mitochondrial genome of C. auratus var. suogu (length, 16,580 bp) comprises 37 genes (13 protein-coding genes, 22 transfer RNA (tRNAs) genes, and 2 ribosomal RNA (rRNAs) genes) and a non-coding control region. The RSCU of the mtDNA of Carassius was similar. Ka/Ks analyses showed the ND4 gene had the highest evolutionar

The widely distributed ray-finned fish genus Carassius is very well known due to its unique biological characteristics such as polyploidy, clonality, and/or interspecies hybridization. These biological characteristics have enabled Carassius species to be successfully widespread over relatively short period of evolutionary time. Therefore, this fish model deserves to be the center of attention in the research field. Some studies have already described the Carassius karyotype, but results are inconsistent in the number of morphological categories for individual chromosomes. We investigated three

Resumen
By depressing energy consumption, anoxia-tolerant animals are thought to compensate for a reduced ability to produce energy during anoxia. Adenosine is an inhibitory neuromodulator in vertebrates and, hence, has the potential ability to depress energy consumption. Ethanol is the main metabolic end product in anoxic Carassius, and the present study shows that the rate of ethanol excretion in anoxic crucian carp (Carassius carassius L.) can be increased threefold by treatment with the adenosine receptor antagonist aminophylline (75 mg/kg). By contrast, the same dose of aminophylline did not incr

Induced breeding of crucian carp, Carassius carassius was conducted in order to determine the optimum dose of pituitary gland (PG) hormone. The research was done at the hatchery of the Freshwater Station, Bangladesh Fisheries Research Institute, Mymensingh. The study was consisted of four different doses of PG treatments (T1, T2, T3 and T4) with three replications of each. In the experiment single dose was used for T1 while double dose used for T2, T3 and T4 to evaluate the efficiency of PG hormone on ovulation, fertilization and hatching rates of C. carassius eggs. Single dose of 6.0 mg PG kg

The karyotype and other chromosomal characteristics the crucian carp (<i>Carassius carassius </i>(Linnaeus, 1758)) were revealed by means of conventional banding protocols (C, CMA3, AgNOR). The diploid chromosome number (2n) in this species was 100. Its karyotype was composed of 10 pairs of metacentric, 18 pairs of submetacentric and 22 pairs of subtelo- to acrocentric chromosomes without any microchromosomes. C-banding identified blocks of telomeric heterochromatin on seven chromosome pairs. The NORs were situated on the p arms of the 14th pair of submetacentric chromosomes and on the p arms

Resumen
Investigation results are reported on immunobiochemical indices in carassius carassius at a chronic exposure to sub-lethal Zink ions concentrations. In blood serum and liver, the following characteristics were investigated: antimicrobial properties, proportion of immune- deficient animals, content of non specific immune complexes, common lipids level, content of lipids peroxidation products and antioxidant activity. The relation between magnitudes of indices under investigation in fishes and the duration of their presence under experimental conditions is shown.

Resumen
This is the first study on the diet of the Great Cormorant wintering in Algeria. It is carried out in Beni Haroun, the largest dam lake in the country, in north-east of Algeria. The trophic menu of Phalacrocorax carboin this lake is based on four species of fish; Abramis bramas, Carassius carassius, Barbus barbus and Cyprinus carpio. However, Barbus barbus and Carassius carassius represent the two most important species in Great Cormorant’s diet. The total consumed biomass is 155,364.18 g, and the average biomass contained in each pellet varies between 330.7 and 2,953 g. The biomass of consume

The purpose of this study was to analyze levels of heavy metals and human health risk implications associated with fish consumption from the Yangtze River. A total of 60 fish muscles were taken from six different fish species—Hypophthalmichthys molitrix, Ctenopharyngodon idellus, Blicca bjoerkna, Mylopharyngodon piceus, Carassius carassius and Pelteobagrus fulvidraco—and digested using standard protocols. Contents of lead (Pb), cadmium (Cd), zinc (Zn), aluminum (Al) cobalt (Co), manganese (Mn), chromium (Cr), and copper (Cu), were analyzed using an Atomic Absorption Spectroscophotometer ((ZEEn

Abstract For aquaculture assessments, the length-weight relationship and condition factor are considered as standard methods for determining fish growth, its health and the potential yield. A year-long study was conducted to calculate length-weight relationships (LWRs) and condition factor (K) for seven fish species, Schizothorax niger (Alghad or snowtrout), S. curvifrons (Sattar snowtrout), Cyprinus carpio (Common carp), Carassius carassius (Crucian carp), Pethia conchonius (Rosy barb), Crossocheilus diplochilus (Kashmir latia) and Gambusia holbrooki (Mosquito fish) in Manasbal Lake. Abstract The analysis of present-day crucians’ settlements in water systems of Eastern Ukraine designated the predominance of the digeneous Goldfish, C. auratus, in the region, the number of which made 78.7 %, from the total number of the examined representatives of the genus. The second group consists of gynogenetic Prussian carps, C. gibelio (14.3 %); it is represented by the clone biotype and recombinant individuals. Crucian carp, C. carassius (3.6 %), turned out to be rare and its number did not exceed the number of the caught hybrids C. auratus × C. carassius (3.4 %). The retrospective an
