Texto completoIt is well known already that a separatist movement exists in Catalonia, and not only in the Basque country. Several political parties now define themselves as such, in this 7. 5 million people Autonomous Community. While nationalism used to be moderate in Catalonia as opposed to the Basque nationalism, separatism exists even outside the parties which officially praise that option as their own. This research aims at analyzing the electoral progression of the main separatist party, ERC (Catalan Republican Left wing). It is also meant to determine the social influence of the separatist movement, beyond the political competition. In the last years, the more and more numerous Catalan flags in the demonstrations of the trade unions may have given the impression that the will of independence has become unanimously shared. Nevertheless, it proves to reflect mostly the views of the trade unions leaders than the feelings of their basis. The Catalan business leaders are traditionally reluctant to express their views explicitly on political subjects. This research shows that praising independence is no longer an obstacle to dialog with them. It was much less obvious fifteen years ago. Catalonia is the Autonomous Community of Spain where the immigrants are most numerous with 1. 2 million out of 7. 5 million inhabitants. It appears that nationalism, and even separatism have the capacity of attracting some of these so-called “New Catalan”, no matter which country they come from or what their mother tongue may be. No separatist could conceive an independent Catalonia outside the European Union. The lack of precision of this project may have contributed to its success until now

Texto completoThe question of the construction of a Catalan Gypsy identity, has led us to wonder about the modalities of identity construction taken in the wider fields formed by the triangle Payous/Tsiganes. Gypsies. The objective of this approach is to show how the gypsies made, play and use their identities. But also how they are appointed by and for the group as well by and for the actors of hospital and religious institutions, we studied, insofar they are good examples of how gypsies and especially gypsies women play both on their group identity and their personal identities. By putting at the cebnter of our thinking, existence, construction and expression of gypsies identities, exposing and transcending differences established in the triangle Payous/Tziganes/Gypsies, we are commiter to show what being a gyspsy woman todat in Berriac, and more broadly what to do (the) gyspsy today. We have focused our study on becoming a gypsy women since their role in identity formation is important. It is indeed much more "visible", recognizable and expressed than in men. Our goal is to characterize the "doing gypsy", we then highlighted the gypsy identity strategies and modalities of change in Berriac. The important thing is to show the existence and operation of a single process, shared by all and which led to a certain diversity within the same culture

Texto completoThe first part of this study recalls the historic events concerning catalonia which enable us to understand the distinctive features of this region in relation to Spain. They also help us to explain its present status of autonomy. In a second part, the functioning of the european community is analysed. After having clarified the conditions of its creation and its evolution, this analysis defines the rights and duties of the state members. Catalonia is then studied from an economic, political and cultural point of view, before and after Spain became a member of the european community. The part played by Catalonia is examined, on the one hand in relation to spain, on the other hand in relation to Europe. This study underlines the importance of Europe in the development of states and regions. Finally, the survey of links between catalonia and Languedoc-Roussillon aims at showing the common points between these two regions, separated so far by the existing border between france and Spain, whereas the european treaties have now done away with these barriers between states

Texto completoThe emphasis of phenomena is an essential feature of frontier's element. The frontier has reinforced the long term feudalization of Catalonia since the Xth century, and has given it, about 1040, a violent and acute feudal mutation. The controlled colonization, whose official aim was the development and safety of the marches - made more necessary because of the degradation of the relationships with muslims from 1090 - opened into a very dense castles network's implantation, with an incastellamento used by the aristocracy to seize the power and to subject the peasants. A genuine social frontier double this new territorial frontier, showing that this element furthers above all the social ascent of the more privileged people, at the cost of deep transformations for them : the widening of the warlike class with the integration of knights, the general diffusion of feudal and vassal relationships in the lap of itself, and the fragmentation of Sippen into multiple topolineages

Texto completoThis thesis presents a geographic analysis of folkloric development in Southern Catalonia. The bulk of examples of « folklore », « tradition » and « legacy » and the invocation of territoriality serve to confirm a renewed regional identity and support claims of its authenticity, requiring analysis of the links between origins of traditions and the continuing territorial fragmentation of this rural area. Straddling the borders of three autonomous communities, South Catalonia is in conflict over water management and marginalized from the development of a Catalan identity, but the « Terres de l’Ebre » is also an administrative region in the making. The regional pride displayed in cultural enlistment, the practice, motivations and ideologies of groups and individuals along with the role of an active cultural legacy in the construction of the territory are analysed through the use of archives, investigation and interviews. Folkloric development and its interplay support a region-forming process, bringing geographical and territorial identity to the area

Texto completoWithin the framework of the new Spanish constitution adopted in 1978, Catalonia has developed an institutional model for a region, responding to a deeply yearning for autonomy. Within the state of autonomous regions, a democratic regime of a completely new kind, respectful of the diversity of Spanish peoples united within the Spanish nation, this "historical nationality", together with the Basque country, is the basis for today's territorial organisation. It is now endowed with institutions for self-government, as well as with its own legislative powers similar to those of a federated state. Therefore Catalonia can take upon itself great responsibilities, as defined in its statute of autonomy, a pact negociated with the central government that serbes a model for other autonomous communities. The new political and administrative system thus attempting to come to terms once and for all with the age-old antagonism between central government and regions

Texto completoThe subject of the piece of research work is the analysis of the production process of the national identityt in Catalonia. The aim was to give an account of the meaning and stakes of the construction of the catalonian national reality. To begin with we analysed the thought and words of the parties holding the most powerful positions in Catalonia which adenowledge the spanish state's legitimacy, and this the belonging of Catalonia to Spain. Then we confronted the parties'speeches with the secessionists'. The analysis of the catalonian nationalist political speeches allowed us to reconstruct a field, which we named the "catalonianist field". It is made up of all the groups that exist both thoules to and for nothing but nationalism, that is to say some political parties is well as associations whose purpose is to stand up for the catalonian identity. The second part of this study is devoted to drawing links between the objectivization of catalanonian properties as elements of catalanonian ethnie identity on the one hand, and the construction of catalonian national identity on the other. To do so, and starting from the concept of "habitus" (defined by p. Bourdieu) we analysed the catalonian "habitus" in the process of being constructed, after the fashion of catalonian national identity. We accounted for fact that the catalonian national identity is being constructed througt the appropriation of the nationalist thought and words by those who we are adenowledged as "immigrans". The different ways of appropriating the nationalists' thought and words gave rise to a common representation of the catalonian identity

Texto completoThe aim of the study is to define what are the explicative variables of job satisfaction of civil servants. The knowledge of the job expectations of this statutory personnel can be a means of contemplating a modernisation of the personnel function. A knowledge of the key factors of satisfaction helps us understand what are the barriers to modernisation of the personnel management in the public sector. Is the personnel satisfied by a statutory management or do they reject some of its empirical rules? To carry out this study an analysis of the main satisfaction determinants has been presented. On this basis a sui generis explicative model has been elaborated. It highlights four facets of satisfaction: work environment, job characteristics, qualitative gratifications, quantitative gratifications. This model has been tested with the help of the methodology of the human resources audit which helped, in a first phase go deeper into the model thanks to its exploratory phase. The statistical results show the necessity of focusing the analysis on the notion of intrinsic gratifications non specific to the public sector. A segmentation by professional levels (executives) proves pertinent. Besides, extrinsic factors that are proper to the sphere of public administration are also present, but their influence is weak

Texto completoDuring the pro-Franco years, the Catalan identity is strongly repressed whatever its form of expression. Appearance of the Spanish national first channel, TVE1, born in 1953. It’s installed in Madrid beside the Ministry of Information: a whole symbol. Ground of resistance, trade and innovation, Catalonia obtains in 1983 the statute of Autonomy and the right to a audio-visual channel of diffusion: TV3-Catalunya. Diffused in catalan language, with engineering teams initiated by those french of FR3, the special programs of TV3 develop the culture and the regional heritage of Catalonia. Contrary to chain FR3, TV3 preserves durably its pionniers characteristic. In spite of the multiplication of the chains, its TV ratings are worthy of those of french chain TF1. TV3 develops by learnedly using the local stations and the partners abroad around a common objective: to promote the culture, the heritage, creation and the catalan language. While being self-promotion in its programs, TV3 generates a star system whose concurrent chains tear off the stars. Since 2000, the European States assert the cultural exception, by which safeguarding is accompanied by a renewed interest towards the regional heritages and dynamisms. Without licence fees, nor great national economic support, autonomic television is based on its own financial resources, based on publicity. Its evolution extends on the international plan by a satellite and digital cover. Is TV3 to becoming a model of self-funded television, whose Europe of the media can be inspired?

This thesis, which seeks to formalize a psycho-social geographical situation, reviews the role of the psyche and of space in individuation and the relationship with the other by studying everyday life in Cadaqués, a semi-rural tourist village on Spain’s Costa Brava, situated in the heart of the Catalan region of Empordà on the South-Mediterranean coast. This village has a diverse local population, given the presence of European and non-European immigrants who are often reduced to the status of foreign seasonal and temporary workers, often long-term. In this shared community, with a wide variety of rich and complex lives, co-habitation with outsiders leads to the emergence of several subgroups based on hierarchical social position and promotion of a so-called native authenticity. A transcalar interpretation of spatial changes and a biographical approach on human experience permits an assessment of contemporary transformations in this village as part of the global world and of different forms of co-habitation that emanate from this situation. It describes a space constituted by a secular interaction of a wide range of material and idealistic changes, while at the same time, exposing the variations negotiated between individuals along community lines and influenced by various interests, despite their shared existential misfortunes and aspirations. This analysis, which is based on a qualitative survey of an ethnographic terrain, interviews with different categories of residents, statistical data, press articles, and mapping, reveals daily life functioning within a plurality of universes. Geohistorical catalysts of notoriety and adherence to globalization processes of the village of Cadaqués, as well as issues arising from a co-habitation between native population and visitors, are both highlighted by inter/national migrations. This extended case study takes a distanced, situated and ordinarized approach to questioning the participation of migrants in their village, a participation that is more often analysed in an urban environment from the perspective of methodological ethnicism and inclusiveness. With the rise in racism, political short-term vision and disputes over conformity to democratic principles, specifically the right to live and move around Europe and the West, this thesis demonstrates the importance of initiating a renewed prospective and utopic approach to a respectful sociality that is capable of promoting otherness and a citizenship that permits both rooting and mobility.

Texto completoThe study of the relationship between Christians and Jews, the place of Jews in Catalan society and their legal status has been the object of an abundant historiography since the nineteenth century. This thesis addresses these issues through the procedural law and justice for the period 1301-1327, through the review of the Catalan normative sources and 800 documents of judicial practice, 655 of which are new. After proposing an analysis of the hierarchy of norms, I have been able to question the assumption, widely accepted, that the Jews, constituting the king's serfs necessarily fall within the exclusive jurisdiction of the crown. Furthermore, the study of the corpus has revealed a poorly-differentiated treatment between procedural rights of Christian and Jewish litigants: Jews in general benefitted from similar access to justice despite some adjustments. However, their ability to access judicial power was restricted, which indirectly affected the fairness of justice towards them. Finally, it is at the time of judgment, in the crucial moment of the statement of the sentence, that the Jewishness of the defendant influenced the penalties which may differ depending on the religion of the accused and the victim

A better understanding of concepts as: liberal or moderate catholicism, intransigent catholicism or integrism, "possibilismo catolico" clears up the complexity of these conflicts. The analisis of the spanish catholic press and more precisely of the catholic catalan press brings out the existence of an integrist catholic current which is deeply rooted in catalonia. Through this study we have also tried to pinpoint the existence of a moderate catholic group formed under the impulse of the escuela apologetica catalana. This group, faithful to the guidance of leon xiii, wishes to help the spanish church to meet the requirements of its time. The analisis of this period which goes from 1868 to 1900 also shows the strong links existing between spanish integrist thought and french ultramontanism

The temporary frame studied indicates the dissociation between the theoretical approoach of marriage exposed in moral and legal documents and its daily application. Besides the theoretical dimension of marriage, this work firstly accounts for the disputes exhibited before the marriage (broken marriage promises), and the influence exerted by such disputes within the marriage. Next, the marriage failure is highlighted, and there analysed different aspects of divorce as it is understood in the considered period (formal divorce legalized by the ecclesiastic tribunal, and informal divorce mainly represented by the practice of concubinage, bigamy and reclusion), the divorce components and its modalities ("temporary separation, temporary divorce and perpetual divorce" declared by the general vicar of the ecclesiastical tribunal

Texto completoThe purpose of this thesis is to provide both an overview and an analysis of the satirical journals published during the last years of Francoism and the Democratic Transition. Indeed, the country underwent many dramatic political and social changes between 1970 and 1982, which objectively represents a relatively short, extremely eventful period in the history of Spain and Catalonia. As concerns the press, the coming into effect of the Ley de Prensa e Imprenta in March 1966 marked an inflection point by suppressing prior censorship and paving the way for much more critical and irreverent publications, such as Mata Ratos, Barrabás or Por Favor, at the beginning of the 1970’s. Very much in debt to Catalan satirical tradition (e.g. Xut!, El Be Negre or ¡Cu-Cut!), the publications of the time were also influenced by the French, American, and English press (Hara Kiri, Charlie Hebdo, National Lampoon, Punch, etc.). Gradually, they succeeded in breaking the straitjacket of censorship at the cost of numerous confiscations, trials, suspensions and condemnations. Following two troubled years between 1976 and 1978, when editorial offices were subject to increasingly oppressive threats of attack, the advent of democracy was the starting point of a new, more general type of humor embodied by El Jueves and based on societal and current events. Due to their specific style and to the themes they dealt with, these satirical journals made a deep mark on society and on the political period. Their impact has endured, since El Jueves is still published in 2017

Texto completoThis thesis studies the genesis and the implementation of income support (RMI) in Catalonia as a measure against poverty. Based on archives and interviews, the research first focuses on the years 1975-1990, during which reformers define poverty as a social problem. The arrangement of their various interests, related to their trajectories and social locations, lead them to set up income support as a solution to this problem. The problem of poverty emerges and takes shape as officials with connections to Catholic networks need to reposition themselves in their social and occupational lives within the new institutional context of parliamentary democracy from the end of the 1970s. The genesis of incom support as a solution is related to two aspects of these agents' situations: some of them belonged to the parties in power throughout the 1980s on the one hand; they accepted the constraints of the political and administrative apparatus to which they belonged on the other hand. The thesis subsequently uses an ethnographic study based on observations and interviews to analyse the practical implementation of income support through the way social workers understand and en force the policy, and especially the way they decide to allocate or not the benefit. The analysis of these processes shows how the implementation of income support is related to social workers' occupational logics. Texto completoThe object of this work is to study cultural practices at the regional level, and to address relevant questions, such as: does regional culture, in the XXIst century, appear as a form of folklore? Do regional traditions only have a back-looking dimension? Or, in present-day reality, don't they reveal another social function? In order to provide answers for these different issues, we shall study the Catalan traditions still preserved in one of the micro-regions within the Pyrenees-Orientales: the Vallespir. Why do the Vallespirian actors experience the need to repeat, year after year, the same gestures as their ancestors, and pass on to each new generation the collection of Catalan popular songs? We'll make an attempt to demonstrate how festive traditions and popular songs as a whole imply values of an "anthropo-poi'etic" nature, allowing the Vallespirians to open up their own social reality, in which they evolve and project their vision of the world, hi addition, in such a role the actors dismiss the idea according to which they should be regarded as Catalan militants. On the other hand, through both the conservation of traditional festivities and the transmission, from one generation to the next, of popular local songs, the Vallespirian population generates a phenomenon of cultural resistance

Texto completoBetween 1939 and 1959, the Catalans had to adapt to the exile caused by the establishment of Franco’s regime in Spain, and France became one of the leading countries to welcome them. Thanks to their tenacity, these exiles succeeded in preserving the Catalan culture through the continuation of a strategy aimed at protecting the national heritage. This study thus seeks to understand the process of this social reorganisation, the preservation of Catalan culture and intellectual production outside of Catalonia in order to evaluate the extent to which the realisation of a suitable cultural project was possible in the particular context of exile
Daurel-Güell, Marie. "Le destin d'une lignée catalane illustre : Juan Güell y Ferrer, et sa famille". Toulouse 2, 1997. http://www.theses.fr/1997TOU20110.
Texto completoJuan Güell y Ferrer was one of the pioneers of the catalan textile industry in the 19th century. On his father's side, son of a fabric merchant and grandson and great-grandson of peasants, working first as labourers and later as farmers, Juan Güell y Ferrer was born in torredembarra (tarragon), a coastal town near the capital of this province on march 3rd, 1800. The definition of Juan Güell y Ferrer's family origins has been the object of much controversy among researchers. 250 years after the marriage of juan's great- grandparents, an individual questioned the authenticity of the entries in the 1731 torredembarra marriage registry. As the public life of Juan Güell y Ferrer has been documented by numerous authors, historians, economists, and sociologists, the object of this work is to focus on the private man in order to determine his predecessors and descendants. This study is first oriented toward his great-grandparents, natives on one side from alcover (tarragon), an interior town near the capital of the province, and on the other side from torredembarra. In order to determine which guells were related to Juan Güell y Ferrer all families bearing this patronymic and having lived in the above mentioned towns from 1550 on have been broken down and their genealogies (ref. Appendix) represent a digest of this research. Next, this study examines the descendants of Juan Güell y Ferrer down to his great-grandchildren who were born in barcelona at the beginning of the 20th century, and where juan had chosen to reside and was twice married after his return from the caribbean around 1840

Texto completoThis thesis is about the relation between the Spanish socio-political conjunctures in the first half of the twentieth century and the dealing with or the consideration of the "sporting fact" in Catalonia. In this study the barcelonan daily paper El Mundo Deportivo (1960 - till today), is an interesting source of research about interpreting the practice trajectory and the catalan sporting information, and its relation with the political world during the Second Republic to the francoism, through the civil war. Thus, the republican period is marked by a certain political power detachment from the sporting fact. As for the Generalissimo Francisco Franco totalitarian regime, it supposes the press to be under supervision and a centralization of the Spanish sporting activities management in the beginning of the 1940s. This analysis shows particularly a correlation between the social status of the Spanish woman, her real presence in sporting life, and the country political regime in force

Texto completoThe study of the Spanish's nation-building process in a comparative analysis between Spain and Catalonia, a Spanish region with a dual identity, through the Catalan-regional historiography and the Spanish-national historiography. The main aim is to discover the importance of Catalan Intellectuality on the building process of the Spanish Nation in the nineteenth century, through the specific case of study of the national and nationalist representation of the historical event of the sieges of Girona (1808-1809), during the Peninsular War (1808-1814). In this system of national representations we find a polarization of such principles for an idealistic vision of Spain : the groups of liberal-modernists and catholic-conservatives. The catholic identity had a crucial importance and weight in the formation of the Spanish nation and its importance as an "alternative modernity" inside a Latin European context Spain, France and Italy. Its manifestation became predominant throughout the Catalan Intellectuality. It was a clearly alignment of Catalans with the Spanish nation-building, before the appearance of the Catalan nationalism in the late nineteenth century. That irruption signified the abandonment of the Spanish nation-building process and the adoption of a Catalan nation-building process since 1898. The final consequence was the rejection of any national representation related with the Spanish nationalism, like the sieges of Girona

Texto completoThe word "goigs" designates the poems in the catalan vernacular which, since the end of the middle ages in catalonia, have been sung during church services to celebrate the "joys" of the virgin and the saints. These joys are the seven joys of the virgin, from her salutation by the angel to her assumption, and the saint's celestial joys in compensation for their sufferings. The "goigs" are distributed in the form of printed leaflets with the hagiographic poem, the appropriate verse and prayer from the latin service, and the image of the saint. The "goigs" are a holy writing of the angel's word, adapted to the historical conditions which are as much literary as social or spiritualtheir meaning dealing with death and transition may be discerned by the analysis of their textual configuration, of the saint's image, of the user's position before the altar. Performed by a legitimate officiant, thanks to a gift of money, before the saint's "powerful body", relic or miraculous statue, they form part of the symbolical exchanges bearing on ideas of death and made by each social parish group, according to the utopia proposed by the church. To immobilize the angel's word, the "goigs" cannot exist without bodies: the bodies of the saints comply with the writing's bodies of the leaflets, where the written letter splits into a projected figure of the saints, and the immobile bodies of the faithful

Texto completoThroughout this thesis, our interest will be drawn to the evolution of the migration system between Latin America and Spain from the end of the 19th century until the economic crisis that took place in 2008. Our starting hypothesis is that the latter makes us reconsider the theory of the « cultural proximity » according to which the language, cultural and religious communities with the Spanish, would make the integration of the Latin-Americans easier than the other migrant communities. After the migration boom in the 2000’s, the crisis figures seem to reveal a change of migration cycle as well as a recomposition of the migratory flows on the basis of an ongoing « Dis-Latin-Americanization» process. What about the real facts ? Is that process irreversible ? We are going to answer these questions by studying the way Latin-Americans are affected by that crisis in two Autonomous Communities, the migratory traditions of which are different : Aragon and Catalonia

Texto completoSpain is composed of different regional entities, known as the autonomous regions. The Basque and Catalan autonomous regions, since their creation, have been governed by nationalist parties. These parties no longer claim the establishment of an independant state. They see the future of Catalonia and the basque country in a Europe under construction. They also see in the construction of Europe, especially in terms of its impact on the sovereignty of states, a process that encourages the integration and the recognition of non nation-states. The aim of this study is to evaluate the way in which the Basque and Catalan players use the mechanism of Europe and the results. The study also aims to analyse whether European construction has a profound effect on Basque and Catalan nationalisms and whether it affects the relationship of these regions with the Spanish state, and the power of the autonomous regions. The resources and the capacities of these two regions are different, as are their strategies within europe. The first part of this thesis examines the objectives and the ambitions of Basque and Catalan nationalists in Europe through their political discourse. The second part comprises an analysis of their means both within the Spanish state and within Europe. The examples given in the third part allow us to look at the interrelations between these three levels -autonomous regions, the state and the European union-. The end result is complex. Nationalists are making some headway in Europe but it is often essential to operate with the state

Often appearing in the form of satirical tracts or caricatures, they iIIustrated and interpreted both important events and daily life in Barcelona. We can understand these images according to their iconology and iconography. These two concepts, as defined by Erwin Panofsky, reflect the socio-cultural environment in which the image was generated, as weil as the form and attributes related to diverse themes used by the illustrators. Three generations of Barcelonian political cartoonists illustrated current events in real time during the 65 years which separated the First Republic from the tragic end of the Second Republic. Both the diversity and the stylistic evolution of their work leads us towards an aesthetic interpretation of these illustrations, which also respects the natural evolution dictated by the major orientations in fine arts during this period in Catalonia
