Resumen
This thesis concentrates on investigation into the main preoccupations of five Scottish women playwrights in the last twenty years, with an emphasis on the ways in which they deal with the issues of gender identity. The study examines fifteen plays by five very different women authors in the context of modern feminist literary analysis. The main objective of the study is to show how Sue Glover, Liz Lochhead, Marcella Evaristi, Sharman Macdonald and Rona Munro – having come from different experiential perspectives – used recurring themes, imagery and discursive modes in exploring female identity. A further objective of the study is to open up and encourage new avenues for exploring female identity in the work of Scottish women playwrights. It also sets out to identify the common themes and imagery shared by these authors, and the ways in which they are expressed in language.

Resumen
The intention of this thesis is to identify and analyze the cat woman archetype as a contemporary extension of the transgressive witch archetype, which rampantly appears over the course of cinema history, working as a signifier of a patriarchal society's fear of autonomous and subversive women. The character of Catwoman is the ultimate representation for this archetype on grounds of her visibility, longevity, and ability to return again and again. More importantly, Catwoman and her sisterhood of cat women work against male creators as a means of female empowerment through trickery. Within this thesis, key films of varying genres are drawn from throughout cinema history and analyzed in order to demonstrate the intertextual network of characters that make up the cat woman archetype, and the importance of the Catwoman character in her many forms.

Study of qualitative nature used the Narrative of Life Method, which object was the motivation of the alcoholic woman to begin and adhere to treatment in the Center of Psychosocial Attention of Alcohol and others Drugs (CAPS ad). The objectives were: a) to know the motives that lead the alcoholic woman to begin and adhere to treatment; b) to describe the therapeutic itinerary traveled by the alcoholic woman; c) to identify the factors that favor the adhesion of the alcoholic woman to the treatment; d) discuss narratives`s contribution of the alcoholics women for the nurse`s practice in the CAPS ad. Twenty-six women users of alcohol in treatment in CAPS ad, originated from two scenarios distinct in Rio de Janeiro State: one CAPS ad of a city in the state in the southern region in the Middle Paraíba Fluminense and one CAPS ad at Rio de Janeiro city. The theoretical support for the study was based on two points: The Psychiatric Reform in the World and in Brazil, the evolution of Public Policy, the Brazilian legislation for serving users of alcohol and other drugs, including Therapeutic Itineraries, the performance of the team interdisciplinary in CAPS ad and the role of nurse and nursing in Mental Health and CAPS ad. The female alcoholism, depicting the changing role of contemporary woman in society, gender issues and biological implications, cultural and social aspects of alcoholism where Edwards and colleagues discuss the biopsychosocial issues involved in this matter. The data collection used the open interview, with single question: "Tell me about your life that is related to their motivation to initiate and adhere to the treatment of alcoholic dependence that performs treatment at a CAPS ad." The analysis showed: that one of the motives that characterizes the female alcoholism refers to the pleasure derived from alcohol as an escape for women lighten the weight of their lives. They have lived and experienced the loneliness, the pain, the suffering, shame, discrimination, losses and physical and psychological injuries resulting from the abuse of alcoholic beverage. These women lived its conflicts and sorrows alone with very few exceptions, until they reached the "end of the pit," when then decided to seek and accept help. The therapeutic itineraries presented were: General Hospital, Basic Health Unit, Prenatal, Alcoholics Anonymous (AA), CAPS, CAPS infant, Psychiatry Clinic, Psychiatry Hospital and Hospitalization Clinic. The motivation for having started the treatment was: desire to change the reality they lived, the loss of family power, that is, loss of child custody; loneliness they lived and the imposition of a third part to initiate treatment. As motivation to treatment adherence was found in all the narrative permanence to get run out of alcohol use, and support they received from the interdisciplinary team. In the perception of women regarding the role of the interdisciplinary team in CAPS ad was reported on the help they received, the listening, acceptance, patience, interpersonal relationship between users and professionals, the care, the strength to continue and valorization of them as essential subjects of theirs stories.

Resumen
This thesis traces the self-creation and autonomy of the woman artist figure in Virginia Woolf's To the Lighthouse, Doris Lessing's The Golden Notebook, and Margaret Atwood's Cat's Eye. The first chapter conveys the progression of autonomy and self-creation in Western-European philosophy through contemporary thinkers such as Charles Taylor, Robert Pippin, Alexander Nehamas, and Richard Rorty. This narrative culminates in a rift between public and private, resulting from the push--especially by Nietzsche--toward a radical, unmediated independence. Taylor and Rorty envision different ways to resolve the public/private rift, yet neither philosopher distinguishes how this rift has affected women by enclosing them in the private, barring them from the public, and delimiting their autonomy. The second chapter focusses on each woman artist's resistance to socially scripted roles, accompanied by theories about resistance: Woolf with Rachel Blau DuPlessis on narrative resistance, Lessing with Julia Kristeva on dissidence, and Atwood with Stephen Hawking and Kristeva on space-time. The third chapter contrasts the narratives of chapters 1 and 2 and reveals how the woman artist avoids the problematic public/private rift by incorporating the ethics developed within the private into her art; she balances her creative goals with responsibility to others. Drawing on the work of women moral theorists, this thesis suggests that women's self-creation and autonomy result in an undervalued but nevertheless workable solution to the public/private rift.

Papadopoulos, Alexandra.

Texto completo
The thesis evaluates differences related to sociodemographic and clinic-pathological characteristics, diagnostic tests, treatment and prognosis of bladder cancer patients newly diagnosed in 18 hospitals from 5 Spanish areas according to sex. The work also assess the association between tobacco and bladder cancer risk according to sex in a pooled analysis of case-control studies of bladder cancer from Europe and North America.
Differences between sex concerning disease incidence, pathological characteristics and treatment were observed. The relative risk of bladder cancer associated with tobacco was similar in both sex. Differences between men and women were observed regarding risk of recurrence and progression of their superficial tumors but not regarding risk of death because of an invasive tumor.

Texto completo
Resumen
In Günter Grass's Danzig Trilogy and novella, Im Krebsgang, an antagonistic female type makes a repeated appearance. She appears in the guise of Susi Kater and Luzie Rennwand in Die Blechtrommel, and as Tulla Pokriefke in the other works, Katz und Maus, Hundejahre, and Im Krebsgang. This antagonistic female type is not like other women in these works. A review of Le Deuxième Sexe by feminist Simone de Beauvoir reveals several crucial components contributing to woman's position in society. Most essentially, a woman's natural attributes and (dis)abilities and the conventions of society have enforced her historical submission to man. This thesis analyzes how the antagonistic female type, or villain, compares and contrasts with other female figures in these works by Grass, according to a paradigm derived from Beauvoir's description of woman. From this analysis, a better understanding of the female villain's nature emerges. Indeed, such a comparison demonstrates that certain female figures in the works of Grass transcend their historically oppressed or subdued status by refusing to submit to those natural handicaps and societal restrictions identified by Beauvoir, and thus become a threat to man's status or security as an antagonistic female type, or villain. However, the villain figure is not always inherently evil, but possesses the capacity to change. The villain and victim can reconcile their differences and may even form a friendly relationship. This evolving villain-victim duality becomes most clear in Grass's work, Im Krebsgang, and suggests the possibility of assuaging contemporary conflicts as educators sympathize with the experiences of both extremist groups and victimized parties and help them come to terms with their differences.

Resumen
In this thesis I explore the global circulation and cross-cultural encounters of women advocacy travelers in the early twentieth century. I focus on Carrie Chapman Catt, Margaret Hodge, Mildred McFaden, and Madeleine Z. Doty, who journeyed around the world in order to advocate for women’s rights and peace. Catt traveled on behalf of the International Woman Suffrage Alliance (IWSA) to South Africa, the Middle East, and Asia in 1911-12, Hodge promoted women’s suffrage around the British dominions, and McFaden and other members of the American Woman’s Republic brought a resolution linking peace and women’s suffrage to the IWSA congress in Budapest in 1913. Doty made several journeys from the U.S. to Germany and Russia, as a dissident antiwar journalist during the First World War. Using their travel writings, I explore these women travelers, their encounters with women from other countries and cultures, and their ideas about internationalism and inclusion in the worldwide movement for women’s rights.

The aim of this study was to investigate mammography screening vehicles in the Penghu area. It is expected that women will receive screening results and understand the important factors that influence their desire to be rescreened in the future. In this study, a cross-sectional research design was utilized. Using structured questionnaires in the Penghu region, data collection was performed on breast screening amongst women. The purpose of this study is to explore the demographic variables, setting and equipment utilized, medical care, service quality, patient satisfaction, and the patients’ likelihood to be rescreened. From May 24, 2016 to June 1, 2016, the questionnaires were collected and the data analyzed in a span of eight days. The hypothesis was validated by the results of descriptive statistics (percentages, number of distributions) and inferential statistics (reliability and validity analysis, t test, ANOVA, linear regression analysis) analysis of the data collection. Research result A total of 300 questionnaires were distributed. A total of 269 questionnaires were retrieved (89.6%). After eliminating 31 incomplete questionnaire responses, 269 valid questionnaires were collected. Collectively, the average scores were greater than 4.3. Most study participants were willing to utilize mobile mammography screening services. Amongst the nine demographic variables, only age, educational level, area of residence, previous breast cancer screening and marital status have shown to affect the participants’ views toward breast cancer screening. Occupation, means of receiving breast cancer screening information, and location of breast cancer screening had no effect on participants’ perceptions. The results of the regression analysis also found that patient satisfaction was significantly influenced by the following factors: quality of service, the screening environment and equipment. The participants’ likelihood to be rescreened were affected by the following factors: patient satisfaction and breast cancer screening environment and equipment. Conclusion This study confirmed that in rural areas where medical resources are scarce, providing mammography screening vehicles and quality medical service can improve breast screening satisfaction and improve rescreening rates. The results of these findings suggest that mammography screening vehicles play an important role in providing quality medical services, enhancing patient satisfaction, and promoting future rescreening in the rural population.
