Texto completoThis work aims, inspired by the Antonio Candido’s masterpiece, Formação da literatura brasileira: momentos decisivos, 1750-1880, to drawn an arc of urban popular song formation in Brazil, always considering the instances of author, audience and work of art as evidences of an urban song system. I´ve chose as landmarks, to investigate the existence and the power of these evidences, the works of four important songwriters, namely, Catulo da Paixão Cearense, Donga, Sinhô and Noel Rosa. For this, I´ve studied their contexts to comprehend how the authorship notion behaved in the popular song field, I´ve inquired about the ways of divulgation and technologies existents at that time to measure how much audience they could count for their creations and, by the Luiz Tatit’s analysis model and propositions, I´ve examined if the popular song language was stabilized and may be used how currency exchanged and bond between authors and audience.

Resumo: Nas primeiras linhas das Sátiras (I, I, 24) Horácio defende a artimanha do riso no laborioso ofício de dizer a verdade.
Abstract: In the Satires (I, I, 24), Horace defends the cunning of laughter on the laborious craft of saying the truth. The modus loquendi used in accordance with a predefined purpose was already recognized among ancient authors as a fruitful subject, once it is admitted that the success or failure of an orator could only be determined by his rhetorical ability. Humour has been constituted, since the post-socratic philosophers, as a powerful (and dangerous) instrument capable of potentializing the effects of an outstanding speech or demoralizing decisively the one who does not make dexterous and parsimonious use of all the inexhaustible resources offered by the method of laughter. Thus, there is a proliferation of reflections on the utility of laughter that intend to clarify the nature of that which releases it, besides regulating the deployment of the laughable, taking into consideration strongly demarcated criteria. It is within this context that the De risu is inserted, the third chapter of the sixth book of Quintilian's Institutio oratoria - the most extensive amongst the five chapters of the book. Through the translation of the De risu, we seek to highlight the specificities of this ?treatise of convenient use of humor? in its dialogue with rhetorical and poetical ancient tradition, observing Quintilian's perception about the subject at the light of authors explicitly mentioned therein - namely: Cicero, Catullus and Horace - in the works most often alluded in the De risu (De Oratore II, Carmina Catulli, Sermones)

Texto completoRoussillonnais is a dialect of Catalan spoken in North Catalonia (French Department of Pyrénées Orientales). For centuries, this area belonged to the realm of Catalonia, but after the Treaty of the Pyrenees in 1659, it became a department of France. Clearly since 1659, and also some time before, Roussillonnais dialect underwent different changes. However, there are few linguistic studies explaining them. The most important work is the thesis of Pierre Fouché, published in 1924 in the books Phonétique historique du Roussillonnais and Morphologie historique du Roussillonnais, Toulouse (Génève, Slatkine Reprints 1980). After Fouché’s seminal work, no thorough study about Roussillonnais have been developed. For this reason, the dissertation Grammar of Roussillonnais Catalan represents a much needed contribution in this forsaken field of research. This thesis is fundamentally descriptive. It includes almost all the gramma-tical aspects of the dialect that are different from the rest of Catalan, i.e., phonetics, phonology, morphology and syntax. The point of view is synchronic, but in some aspects it is also diachronic, especially when the resulting feature of an evolution is similar to French. In the introduction there is also a brief description of the sociolinguistic features and the historical reasons that led Rousillonnais to a current situation of virtual extinction. As regards phonetics, the most special characteristics affect the vowels. After two historical changes, today Roussillonnais has five vowels instead of the seven-vowel system typical of Catalan. The evolution of these changes is studied in the thesis, together with the current properties of vowel formants, explained from an acoustic perspective. From a phonological point of view, the final s in the context Cs##C, the position of the accent (which avoids presence of proparoxyton words) and the behaviour of clitics are very special. All these distinctive features are described and an explanation is also provided. In morphology, gender and plural morphemes, determinants and verbal morphemes are described. The most salient aspects are found in the article and in the verbal conjugation. An account is offered of all these morphological phenomena. Finally, the most important syntactic aspects are related to subject position (with restrictions for post verbal location) and to negation (with the particle pas). Both are compared to French in order to try to know if this language could be in the origin of changes that led to the current characteristics. This dissertation also presents six appendices, each of which is devoted to one of the following topics: the names of the informants, the questionnaires employed in the interviews, the definition of some adverbs and textual connectors, the (orthographic and phonetic) transcription of fourteen oral conversations, the explanation of expressions for time reports and, finally, the transcription of an original manuscript of the year 1691.

There are multiple modalities available to evaluate health or stress status of animals. The objective of my research was to evaluate different modalities including behavior, rectal and nasal temperature, and blood samples to determine the relationship with these outcomes of interest in bovine respiratory disease (BRD) events, environmental conditions, transportation, and Mannheimia haemolytica challenge model. The objective for the final project was to determine whether diagnostic sensitivity or specificity resulted in greater economic value for the industry using simulation models for identification of BRD. There was a positive association with rectal temperature and probability of not finishing the production cycle normally, but this relationship was not linear. Rectal temperature of feedlot calves at first treatment for BRD had limited value as a prognostic indicator of whether those calves would finish the production cycle normally. A positive association between rectal temperature and ambient temperature and temperature-humidity index was determined. Environmental conditions must be considered when rectal temperature is used as a diagnostic tool. At 48 hours after initiation of transportation there were no differences in body weight, rectal temperature, and time spent at various locations in the pen detected between transported and non-transported control heifers. Transportation of heifers during periods of high ambient temperatures caused transient changes in physiologic and behavioral indices of heifers. Calves challenged with Mannheimia haemolytica had more changes in behavior, body weight, and blood biomarkers during high ambient temperatures compared to control calves. Results of this study may guide research in development of objective assessment tools for identification and management of cattle affected with BRD during extreme summer conditions. For both low and high apparent prevalence cohorts, increasing diagnostic specificity resulted in more rapid, positive change in net returns compared to change in increasing sensitivity. Improvement of diagnostic specificity, perhaps through a confirmatory test or pen-level diagnostics, can increase diagnostic value. Mortality risk was the primary driver for net returns. Results from this study are important for determining future research priorities to analyze diagnostic techniques for BRD and provide a novel way for modeling diagnostic tests.
Lanceron, Elodie. "Catulle Mendès l'homme-orchestre". Thesis, Brest, 2020. http://www.theses.fr/2020BRES0015.
Texto completoCatulle Mendès was forgotten after he died but he was an influencial and acknowledged writer in his lifetime. The aim of this thesis is to highlight this important figure of the Second Empire and the Belle Epoque literary life proposing a factual and an intellectual biography of this writer whose work was rich and diverse. It is the first analysis to recall Mendès’s life from his birth in Bordeaux in 1841 to his accidental death in St Germain-en- Laye in 1909. It seeks to understand how the young man once in Paris in 1859 managed to impose himself as a writer and a journalist. In 1866, he married Théophile Gautier’s daughter, Judith. He became a one-man band in the Parisian literary life. He maintained close relations with Baudelaire, Mallarmé, Leconte de Lisle and the Parnassians. In 1877, he wrote the suite of Émile Zola’s novel L’Assommoir in his review La République des lettres after Le Bien public had stopped publishing it. He was also one of the first men to support Richard Wagner in France. As the founder of the Revue fantaisiste, Le Parnasse contemporain and La République des Lettres and as a collaborator for La Vie populaire, Gil Blas, L’Écho de Paris and Le Journal, he played a major role in the spreading of literary ideas. A detailed analysis of his aesthetic choices provides a better understanding of the formal and thematic characteristics of a way of writing which has evolved from Parnasse to Symbolism, including Decadentism. Long extracts from his correspondence offer a new light of his personality

Texto completoVaccinating for clostridial diseases is an important part of a ranch health program. These infections can have significant economic impacts on the ranch due to animal losses. There are several diseases caused by different organisms from the genus Clostridia, and most of these are preventable with a sound vaccination program. Many of these infections can progress very rapidly; animals that were healthy yesterday are simply found dead with no observed signs of sickness. In most cases treatment is difficult or impossible, therefore we rely on vaccination to prevent infection. The most common organisms included in a 7-way or 8-way clostridial vaccine are discussed below. By understanding how these diseases occur, how quickly they can progress, and which animals are at risk you will have a chance to improve your herd health and prevent the potential economic losses that come with a clostridial disease outbreak.
