AbstractThe hub location problems involve locating facilities and designing hub networks to minimize the total cost of transportation (as a function of distance) between hubs, establishing facilities and demand management. In this paper, we consider the capacitated cluster hub location problem because of its wide range of applications in real-world cases, especially in transportation and telecommunication networks. In this regard, a mathematical model is presented to address this problem under capacity constraints imposed on hubs and transportation lines. Then, a new hybrid algorithm based on

This paper proposes a cluster partitioning technique to calculate improved upper bounds to the optimal solution of maximal covering location problems. Given a covering distance, a graph is built considering as vertices the potential facility locations, and with an edge connecting each pair of facilities that attend a same client. Coupling constraints, corresponding to some edges of this graph, are identified and relaxed in the Lagrangean way, resulting in disconnected subgraphs representing smaller subproblems that are computationally easier to solve by exact methods. The behavioural revolution has profoundly affected how we conceptualize behaviour. The rational agent of standard microeconomic theory has been found wanting and, in its place, new formulations have been presented which take seriously human traits like myopia and loss aversion. Here it is argued that the behavioural revolution offers a way of understanding common problems in economic geography, such as co-location, clusters of innovation, the diffusion of innovation, and home bias. Resumen
This chapter focuses on significant applications of self-organizing maps (SOMs), that is, unsupervised learning neural networks in two supply chain applications: cellular manufacturing and real-time management of a delayed delivery vehicle. Both problems require drastic complexity reduction, which is addressed effectively by clustering using SOMs. In the first problem, we cluster machines into cells and we use Latent Semantic Indexing for effective training of the network. In the second problem, we group the distribution sites into clusters based on their geographical location. The available vehicle time is distributed to each cluster by solving an appropriate non-linear optimization problem. Within each cluster an established orienteering heuristic is used to determine the clients to be served and the vehicle route. Extensive experimental results indicate that in terms of solution quality, our approach in general outperforms previously proposed methods. Furthermore, the proposed techniques are more efficient, especially in cases involving large numbers of data points. Neural networks have and will continue to play a significant role in solving effectively complex problems in supply chain applications, some of which are also highlighted in this chapter.

Resumen
In wireless sensor networks, cluster-based routing was proven to be the most energy-efficient strategy to deal with the scaling problem. In addition, selecting the proper number of clusters is a critical decision that can impose a significant impact on the energy consumption and the network lifetime. This paper presents FL-LEACH, a variant of the well-known LEACH clustering protocol, which attempts to relax the stringent strategy of determining the number of clusters used by LEACH via fuzzy logic decision-making scheme. This relates the number of clusters to a number of network characteristics such as the number of sensor nodes, the area of the sensing field, and the location of the base station. The performance of FL-LEACH was evaluated via simulation and was compared against LEACH using standard metrics such as network lifetime and remaining network energy. The results depicted that the proposed approach has the potential to substantially conserve the sensor node energy and extend lifetime of the network.

Resumen
As the first step of many visual speech recognition and visual speaker authentication systems, robust and accurate lip region segmentation is of vital importance for lip image analysis. However, most of the current techniques break down when dealing with lip images with complex and inhomogeneous background region such as mustaches and beards. In order to solve this problem, a Multi-class, Shapeguided FCM (MS-FCM) clustering algorithm is proposed in this chapter. In the proposed approach, one cluster is set for the lip region and a combination of multiple clusters for the background which generally includes the skin region, lip shadow or beards. With the spatial distribution of the lip cluster, a spatial penalty term considering the spatial location information is introduced and incorporated into the objective function such that pixels having similar color but located in different regions can be differentiated. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm provides accurate lip-background partition even for the images with complex background features.

Resumen
Due to the limited energy supplies of nodes in wireless sensor networks (WSN), optimizing their design under energy constraints, reducing their communication costs, and securing their aggregated data are of paramount importance. To this goal, and in order to efficiently solve the problem of target tracking in WSN with quantized measurements, the authors propose to jointly estimate the target position and the relay location, and select the secure sensor nodes and the best communication path. Firstly, the authors select the appropriate group in order to balance the energy dissipation and to provide the required data of the target in the WSN. This selection is also based on the transmission power between a single sensor and a cluster head (CH). Secondly, the authors detect the malicious sensor nodes based on the information relevance of their measurements. Thirdly, they select the best communication path between the candidate sensor and the CH. Then, the authors estimate jointly the target position and the relay location using Quantized Variational Filtering (QVF) algorithm. The selection of candidate sensors is based on multi-criteria function, which is computed by using the predicted target position provided by the QVF algorithm. The proposed algorithm for the detection of malicious sensor nodes is based on Kullback-Leibler distance between the current target position distribution and the predicted sensor observation, while the best communication path is selected as well as the highest signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) at the CH. The efficiency of the proposed method is validated by extensive simulations in target tracking for wireless sensor networks.

Chapter 2 identifies, locates, and disambiguates adaptive agency within the early Chinese textual horizon. It deals with three problems: (1) the notion of adapting is stable, but not always well-delimited or defined; (2) adapting is either expressed through a word cluster or articulated without an attributed term, which makes it more difficult to identify; and (3) adaptive agency must be demarcated from similar notions also pervasive in early Chinese intellectual discourses and their modern scholarly studies. Beyond expounding the philological basis of the research, the section “What Is Not Adapting” clarifies the difference between adapting, flexibility, reliance, balancing, conforming, and spontaneity.

Resumen
For almost thirty years Chagnon has been studying the settlement patterns of a large cluster of remote Yanomamö communities in southern Venezuela, documenting population growth, mortality patterns, fissioning, dispersal, and pioneering of adjacent virgin areas of tropical forest. Approximately fifteen villages, with a current (1992) population of about 2000 individuals, have been studied. During a period of some 150 years, members of these communities have cleared and subsequently abandoned approximately five hundred sites whose geographical locations are very poorly known. In 1990 and 1991, Charles Brewer Carías, a Venezuelan naturalist, joined Chagnon in this research effort. Recent field research has resulted in geographic and demographic data suggesting that long-term warfare patterns may be contests over the apparently more desirable lowland areas, where economic activities are less costly in terms of energy and resources are more abundant or easier to obtain. Periodic village movements, provoked by hostilities with neighbors, require that relatively large lowland areas must be controlled so that groups can move around within them and maintain maximum distance from enemy groups. To do this, lowland villages must grow large and politically bellicose. When they fission, usually at a size of about 150 to 200 people, some of the resulting smaller groups are driven out and take refuge in more rugged but economically less productive highland terrain, where they adopt a less bellicose political stance toward their neighbors. Rates of mortality due to warfare, frequencies of abduction of women from neighbors, and other sociodemographic attributes distinguish highland from lowland communities in the overall area (Chagnon 1992). Geographic information systems are considered effective methods for organizing and analyzing the variety of spatial information required to test such hypotheses of relationships between environment and social processes. A GIS-based approach would allow maps of parameters relating to resource distribution and environmental characteristics to be compared to a rich and growing record of field observations. Analysis based on GIS would support data management requirements by allowing accurate identification and positioning of cultural and environmental features within a consistent map base.

Companies can create shared values through re-conceiving products and markets, redefining productivity in the value chain and building supportive industry clusters at the company's locations and solving society problems.
