Resumen
This article discusses the English translations of twelve of Grimms’ fairy tales included in the hitherto forgotten edition published by Darton and Co. in 1851. The titles and tales are identified with their German originals, and the defects of the translation are examined. The German base text was one of the Grimm editions published between 1837 and 1850. Other items not by the Grimms in the edition are commented on. Identification of the tale entitled ‘Sycorine and Argilas’ is unknown. The anonymous translator was inexperienced, without access to a reliable dictionary, and was, probably, female.

Resumen
Abstract In the following article, the authors present a critical edition of ms. T-S H 10.175. This manuscript is written in a medieval Oriental hand and contains continuous, lemmatic piyyut commentary. To the best of the authors’ knowledge, it is the only such manuscript to be found in the Genizah. All of the piyyutim commented on in the manuscript (to the extent that these are identifiable) were composed by the Classical payyetan Eleazar be-rabbi Qillir. In the edition, the commentary text is transcribed and punctuated, lemmas are marked as such, and the piyyutim that are commented on are identified, along with the biblical and midrashic sources that the commentary employs. The commentary text is analyzed, with special stress on the hermeneutic technique that informs its composition. Together with this analysis, the authors provide an overview of the evidence for piyyut commentary that may be gleaned from the Genizah manuscripts.

Resumen
‘This contract is certainly my greatest success as a composer, so far’, commented Bartók in 1918 on contracting with the Viennese publisher Universal Edition. After years of hit-and-miss publishing with two Budapest firms, Rozsnyai and Rózsavölgyi, Bartók was proud at having caught, with the 1917 Budapest première of his ballet The Wooden Prince, the attention of Universal Edition's director, Emil Hertzka. Hertzka was renowned for his cultivation of such musical talents of central Europe as Mahler, Schoenberg, Janáœk, Berg and Szymanowski. Until about 1926, when Hertzka developed heart troubles and took a lesser role in managing the firm, Bartók was generally happy with his Viennese publishing connexion. Universal Edition had quickly moved to bring out the considerable backlog of his compositions, had strongly promoted his works through its new house journal Muskiblätter des Anbruch, and had often spurred his imagination with complimentary scores, suggestions and in-house gossip. But then, from 1926 to 1932, when Hertzka died, Bartók's dealings with Universal Edition became progressively less personal, less prompt and sometimes even chilly, although his compositions did continue to appear regularly from the publisher and to receive a quite reasonable level of exposure. Thereafter, as the Depression and financial difficulties led to more serious publication delays and breakdowns in communication, Bartók grew bitter and imperious. Several times after 1932 he threatened to terminate his contract with Universal Edition.

Resumen
Works belonging to the world literary canon are widely commented on by literary scholars. The editorial aspects of the editions of the same works, however, do not have such thorough studies. The discussion of the editorial features of children’s publications seems to be all the more important because improperly selected typographic parameters may significantly impair the quality of the reading experience and discourage reading itself. The article indicates the importance of particular architectural elements of the Polish editions of two masterpieces of children’s literature, “Winnie the Pooh” and “Alice in Wonderland”, which appeared in Poland after 1989. The indication of specific typographical sizes and layouts of illustrations makes it possible to determine reading competences which should be possessed by a reader designed by the publisher, and thus also to prove whether a particular edition has been given an appropriate editorial design for the recipient.

Resumen
AbstractSigmund von Birken belongs to the »Trio of poets from Nürnberg«, together with Georg Philipp Harsdörffer and Johann Klaj whose posthumous fame is mainly due to their pastoral poetry with fullsounding verses in praise of peace and love. Birken started his career with an enormous upshot as organizer of multi-media spectacles during the peace ceremony in Nürnberg in 1650. Apart from his hymns and pastoral love poems, Birken’s poetry does not belong to the canon of early modern literature in Germany. If he had lived longer, he would probably have edited later all those poems which he had written on demand for special occasions and immediately published as separate brochures or leaflets in at least four huge volumes. He would have properly arranged love poems, odes in praise of friendship, poems dedicated to noblemen and civilians, hymns and secular songs, starting like his famous predecessors with his Latin verses. This ambitious publication project is outlined in his manuscript collections, but was not realized during Birken’s lifetime. To correct for this oversight, the commented edition of Birken’s complete poetic manuscripts, which was recently finished by Hartmut Laufhütte, gives a broad impression of his talents as a playful virtuoso in all kinds of genres, teacher of poetry, advisor, ›ghostwriter‹ and promotor of young poets, male and female alike. His diaries and correspondence account for his enormous productivity and versatility, thus enabling modern readers to watch him during the creative procedure more closely than any other German poet of his time. The edition of Birken’s manuscripts is on the same scale as a few other recently completed long term editions of early modern German ego-documents and poetry and sets high standards for further editions.

A review of the bilingual edition of the play Double Falsehood, or, The Distressed Lovers, prepared by ‘Book Centre Rudomino’. The play is supplied with three presentations: a translator’s introduction by Andrey Korchevsky, a foreword by the most renowned scholar of this highly mysterious play, Brean Hammond (he edited the play for the Arden series in 2010), and an afterword by Dmitry Ivanov, a Russian scholar of the period and translation. Is there much left of Shakespeare and Fletcher in Double Falsehood, and what exactly is it? Can one single out the earliest language stratum stemming from Cardenio? Stylistic and metric similarities aside, can one indeed recognize Shakespeare and Fletcher on the higher level of the whole work: its plot, composition, mise en scfnes, images and ideas? Does Double Falsehood preserve traces of the original composition and plotline of Cardenio? The paper is published on the eve of this extensively commented edition of Double Falsehood becoming available to Russian reading audiences and theatre practitioners.

Resumen
Scholars of late imperial Chinese fiction have demonstrated that Ming ‘literati novels’ possessed both intellectual sophistication and aesthetic seriousness. Nonetheless, the large corpus of mid-length fictional narratives of the Qing remains mired in problematic assumptions about its ostensibly popular nature. The self-commentaried edition ofEmbroidered screen(Xiuping yuan) presents a salient example for reassessing the nature of Qing novels and the reading of fiction in the seventeenth century. First circulated in manuscript copies, extensive auto-commentary was added when the novel was committed to print. The commented edition incorporates different genres—poetry, examination essay, and anecdotal accounts—as well as visual elements, all intended to appeal to elite literati tastes among Qing readers. Its literary, visual, and formal heteroglossia also contributed to its popularity in eighteenth-century Japan, which in turn secured its preservation and eventual modern rediscovery, even while it fell into obscurity in Qing China, most likely due to political censorship.

‘It is Not the War that Kills and Demoralises Us’…A Commentary to Postwar Events in Poland and Abroad in a Diary from the War Period of 1914–1921 By Franciszek Duda This source edition is a continuation of a fragment of A Diary from the War Period of 1914–1918 by Franciszek Duda, which was published in the “Annual Volume of the Scientific Library of the PAAS and the PAS in Cracow”, Vol. 58 (2018). In the previous part, the author brought the edition up to the moment of establishment of the Provisional People’s Government of the Republic of Poland led by Prime Minister Jędrzej Moraczewski. In the further part of his memoirs, Franciszek Duda leads the reader through the most important postwar events, including the victorious defence of Lviv in November 1918, Ignacy Paderewski’s return to Poland and his two visits to Cracow, events accompanying the signature of the Treaty of Versailles, the Polish-Czechoslovak war for the territory of Cieszyn Silesia, the Polish-Ukrainian war and the Upper Silesia plebiscite. The author of the memoirs was a representative of the Cracow intelligentsia, an employee of the National Archive of Castle and Land Records in Cracow (currently the National Archive in Cracow), and a declared advocate of the national ideas of Roman Dmowski. In his Diary..., Franciszek Duda does not report any new facts from that period that had been unknown to or rarely commented by historians until then. An interesting aspect of his memoirs is his own remarks and thoughts and a reflection of what others thought of current events and how information was circulated in Cracow at that time – who disseminated the news, what rumours spread around the city and how they were commented. Franciszek Duda gives us a very detailed account of moods and opinions that prevailed in Cracow in those days. It is worth mentioning that these comments are also very subjective and, given the fact that the same author expressed relatively moderate opinions in the previous part, loaded with emotions. We can suppose that even the time that passed from the time of writing the original Diary... till its rewriting in 1936 did not soften the author’s feelings regarding these events.

Resumen
ABSTRACT: In 1556, Jean de Tournes and Guillaume Gazeau published the first commented edition of Alciato’sEmblemata. The volume included Latin commentaries written by Sebastian Stockhamer, an unknown figure among 16thcentury scholars. Although the interpretative notes did not apply to all emblems, this publication opened a new chapter in the complex editorial history of the famous book by the Milanese jurist. Competing with other commentaries that became more popular (such as those by Mignault or El Brocense), Stockhamer's notes were reprinted several times. However, the passage of time seems to have eradicated all traces of the unfortunate commentator, condemning his pioneering work to oblivion. This study aims, therefore, to update the information available on this reader of Alciato, reflecting on the context of the production of the comments, elucidating his method and discussing his contribution to the diffusion of the commented editions. In this way, the study proposes to shed new light on the role that Stockhamer played in the dissemination of the Emblemata. KEYWORDS: Alciato; Emblems; Commentary; Stockhamer; Reception Studies.

One of the main sources about Russia’s “Time of Troubles” are the memoirs of foreign observers. One of them is Polish Captain Mikołaj Scibor Marchocki’s History of the Muscovite War. Marchocki participated in and commented on many events of the “Troubles.” In this article, the author analyzes the original text of History of the Muscovite War as well as all later copies and published versions. He traces the history of the text and cross-checks the information contained in it with documents produced by other Polish and Lithuanian mercenaries. The author makes a strong case for a new scholarly edition of Marchocki’s important memoirs.

Resumen
The DSM-I is currently viewed as a psychoanalytic classification, and therefore unimportant. There are four reasons to challenge the belief that DSM-I was a psychoanalytic system. First, psychoanalysts were a minority on the committee that created DSM-I. Second, psychoanalysts of the time did not use DSM-I. Third, DSM-I was as infused with Kraepelinian concepts as it was with psychoanalytic concepts. Fourth, contemporary writers who commented on DSM-I did not perceive it as psychoanalytic. The first edition of the DSM arose from a blending of concepts from the Statistical Manual for the Use of Hospitals of Mental Diseases, the military psychiatric classifications developed during World War II, and the International Classification of Diseases (6th edition). As a consensual, clinically oriented classification, DSM-I was popular, leading to 20 printings and international recognition. From the perspective inherent in this paper, the continuities between classifications from the first half of the 20th century and the systems developed in the second half (e.g. DSM-III to DSM-5) become more visible.

The article presents a bibliographic index compiled in the Wro- blewski Library of the Academy of Science and discusses the significance of a personal bibliography for biographical studies. This is the first and so far the only comprehensive index encompassing both Basanavičius’s own publications and writings about him. The first part of the index, dealing with writings by Basanavičius, was published in 2015. The second part, concerning literature on him, is currently under preparation. Both biographical studies and research in other scientific fields will benefit from the following aspects of the bibliography: it offers clarification on Ba- sanavičius’s pseudonyms and contains entries for his anonymously published works, documents signed by him, and repeated editions of his writings. It also provides citation data, i.e., information on who cited Basanavičius’s works or commented on them. The bibliography will be useful in studying Basanavičius’s biography, the subject variety in his writings, their dissemination and popularity, as well as the historical circumstances in that time period. The bibliography also will be of use in writing a scientific biography of Basanavičius or a monograph about him, as well as in preparing a comprehensive edition of his writings.Based on the example of the bibliography of Basanavičius, it may be stated that a personal bibliography is an important source for biographical studies, which may be instrumental in creating a comprehensive biographical portrait of an individual.

The article describes the history of Pavel Annenkov’s publications about Pushkin in the journal "Vestnik Evropy (Herald of Europe)" referring to the letters to Mikhail Stasyulevich ("Pushkin under Alexander I", "Public ideals of Pushkin"); it gave the basis of Pavel Annenkov’s biography method, commented his polemics with the opponents and defined more precisely the creative history of his work "A Literary Litigation". Special attention is paid to Pavel Annenkov’s interpretation of Pushkin’s notes about the history of Peter I and the explanation of Pushkin’s public position in the 1830s. The analysis of Pavel Annenkov’s review about edition of Pushkin by Pyotr Yefremov lets understand the demands for an academical publication. The last Pavel Annenkov’s article "Literary projects of Pushkin" confirmed his idea about Pushkin’s method of approach for Russian history and culture in the European context.

Resumen
AbstractA short treatise attributed to Ibn al-Ǧazarī (born Damascus 751/1351) deals with what was considered necessary knowledge about the art and craft of penmanship. Along with linguistic and antiquarian remarks, scribal practices, and social applications of writing, an entire section is devoted to the preparation of inks. The selection of recipes includes different ink typologies and technical approaches to ink making, with a preference for metallic compounds; the manipulation of metallic substances often absorbed technological aspects of alchemical practice. This article provides an edition and a commented English translation of the section on inks in the Book on the Art of Penmanship, as preserved by its unique manuscript witness, MS Berlin Sprenger 1918. A recipe for the distillation of an artificial golden ink has been replicated in order to better understand the interaction between the text and the chemical reality behind it.

Resumen
Richard Haydocke’s manuscript treatise Oneirologia (1605) is a learned account in English of the medical nature of sleep and dreams. This article presents a commented edition of the manuscript, an account of the circumstances that led to its composition, and a commentary on its contents. Apparently composed on the orders of King James i (whose ‘arguments’ against rational discourse in sleep it includes), Oneirologia is a significant document in the history of early modern erudition. The treatise reflects the orthodox physiognomic and psychological explanations of sleep and dreaming expounded in the universities, as well as its author’s experience as a writer on and practitioner of the visual arts. A product of the febrile political climate in England around the time of the Gunpowder Plot, Oneirologia touches upon major themes in society and religion, including the nature of royal authority, mens rea, and divine revelation.

Resumen
The paper presents a commented translation of the fragment Jāna-nirdeśa (The doctrine of knowledge) from the seventh part of the exegetic compendium Abhidharmakośabhāya ascribed to the eminent medieval Buddhist thinker Vasubandhu (4th5th centuries AD). The fragment can be used as a historical source for the study of evolution of the image of the Buddha in post-Canonical treatises where the real Śakyamuni was invested with the attributes of a transcendental object of religious cult. The text explicates the conceptual differences between the great compassion (mahākāruā), treated as the Buddhas attribute, and compassion (kāruā) as a characteristic trait of enlightened ascetics (śravakas and pratyekabuddhas) and explains the postulate of identity of all buddhas perfections (the perfection of religious merits and knowledge, the perfection of the Dharmic body, the perfection of serving all sentient beings). This is the first translation based on the Sanskrit edition by P. Pradhan (Pradhan 1967: 414416).

Resumen
ABSTRACTThis article attempts to uncover the political significance of the Old Testament verse Judges 5:23, ‘the curse of Meroz’, during the English Civil War. Historians who have commented on the printed text of Meroz have done so primarily in reference to a single edition of the parliamentarian fast-day preacher Stephen Marshall's 1642Meroz cursedsermon. Usage of the curse, however, as shown in more than seventy unique sermons, tracts, histories, libels, and songs considered here, demonstrates that the verse was far more widespread and politically significant than has been previously assumed. Analysing Meroz in its political and polemical roles, from the outbreak of the Irish Rebellion in 1641 and through the Restoration of Charles II in the 1660s, sheds new light on the ways in which providentialism functioned during the Civil Wars, and serves, more specifically, to illustrate some of the important means by which ministers and polemicists sought to mobilize citizens and construct party identities.

Resumen
One of the most crucial problems in the historical lexicography of the Russian language is that lexicographers are regularly faced with texts and sources which often have neither been properly published, if at all, nor properly commented on from linguistic, philological, and historical points of view. The first part of these research notes shows that a Greek source of one of the liturgical chants dedicated to SS. Constantine and Helene has been erroneously identified in the Index of the Incipita of Old East Slavonic liturgical chants; this made it possible to assume textual corruption in the Slavonic translation and prevented scholars from establishing a correct understanding of the hapax legomenon tresadovnyj, which actually means ‘made of three species of wood’ (about the Holy Cross made of the fir tree, the pine tree, and the box, according to Christian exegesis of Is 60:13). In the second part of these research notes, the edition and lexicographic interpretation of one passage from the Church Slavonic translation of the Homilies by Gregory the Dialogist have been critically reconsidered. Editorial mistakes and a lack of commentary has made it impossible to understand and to explain adequately the phrase krotostʹ na tjažestʹ obratiti lit. ‘to transmute modesty into gravity.’ This phrase is important to exemplify the rare meaning of the Church Slavonic word tjažestʹ (lit. heaviness, gravity) ‘dignity,’ which is lexicographically recorded in this meaning only in a few translated texts, and attests a semantic calque. While the Slavonic translation of this passage is erroneous, its edition and lexicographic interpretation are corrupted and inadequate, so that on the basis of the edition and of the available dictionaries one could not understand that the phrase krotostʹ na tjažestʹ obratiti (‘to transmute modesty into gravity’) actually means ‘to renounce light-mindedness and to return to (proper) dignity.’ In the third part of the article, the lexical meaning of the words tščetina, tščetinnyj is analyzed. The final part is dedicated to the critical analysis of some erroneous editorial decisions made by scholars, who ignored the Greek origin of translated texts.

Resumen
In 1609 Peter Korkonos, the new rector (parish priest) of the St. Peter Church in Vilnius wrote an inventory of this church. It’s the oldest inventory of the church we know today. Two fragments of this document have been found in the collections of the Archive of Vilnius Archdiocese and The Martynas Mažvydas National Library of Lithuania. In this edition these two fragments of the historical source have been combined and commented. Particular attention has been paid to the problem of books, which were the property of the church at this time. The most relevant facts from the history of St. Peter Church are also mentioned in this work. The first wooden church founded about 1492–1507 burned down. The management of the parish and the years of restoration were documented by Peter Korkonos. After the death of the parson St. Peter Church was handed over to the Canons Regular of the Lateran. The presented sources have not been widely used in academic theses concerning the church. They complete former knowledge related with formation of the local library.

Resumen
Nikos Kazantzakis in 1945(?) writes a work, which remains unknown to this day, entitled “O Aniforos”. The post-war novel is preserved in a manuscript, which is kept in the archive of the Nikos Kazantzakis Museum. The present study deals with the publication course of the work, and especially from its writing in the middle of the 20th century until its first scientific transcription, study and commented edition, which took place about eighty years after the conception of the idea by the Cretan author. It also outlines the literary context of the text, regarding Space, Time, Faces and Plot. In addition, a comparative approach of the “lost” novel is made on the one hand with the other works of the author and on the other hand with the works of Shakespeare, in order to reveal the intertextual hints. Finally, an attempt is made to present the references to the unknown novel, but also to determine the reasons that contributed to the “loss” of the work and to the fact it remained unpublished

Irina Erofeeva won a universal recognition as the best expert in the political history of Kazakhstan of late 15th – early 19th centuries. The President of Kazakhstan responded to her death with a telegram of condolences. Kazakh journalists called her a female batyr, whom Kazakhs should bow deeply to. Her own books and her perfectly adjusted, commented and supplied with notes and indexes publications of sources on the history of Kazakhs, appeared to become in a great demand at the time when the former Soviet Kazakhstan has been transforming itself into an independent state. What is most impressive, in none of her oeuvres did she deviate from the principle of verifying her conclusions with a critically tested empirical evidence. In the focus of her interest were also the history of Russians and Germans in Kazakhstan and the monuments of Buddhism dating back to the Dzungarian expansion in the Kazakh steppe. She became one of the initiators of a comprehensive study on the remnants of the Buddhist monastery Ablai-Hit and one of the authors for a corresponding collective monograph. Yet, the masterpiece of her scholarly career is two-volume edition of the letters of the Kazakh ruling elite in the period from year 1675 to year 1821. She came up with the very idea of a unique collection that absorbed 811 messages, of which four-fifths were never published; wrote biographies of the authors of the letters and several research articles for the supplement; prepared the introduction and comments; edited 1,800 pages, and, found generous sponsors and sophisticated publishers.

This article presents a comparative analysis of six translations of Anne Frank's Het Achterhuis into German, English, and French. This includes the history of its editions from the first Dutch edition published in 1947 to the 1986 critical edition of the Diaries and later Het Achterhuis editions. The translation analysis focuses on aspects related to the cultural and historical context, e.g. the use of annotations and the representation of anti-German comments made by Anne Frank. With regard to the latter, the first translation into German (1950) is partly re-assessed: not all these comments were eliminated or toned down by the translator Anneliese Schütz, who worked in close co-operation with Anne Frank's father Otto Frank.

Resumen
The proposed review analyzes the recently released four volumes of the Russian translation of the mysterious medieval Chinese novel “Chin Ping Mei” (in Russian, “The Plum in the Golden Vase”). The lengthy story written as a semi-erotic romance, can be compared with the best editions of “Arabian Nights” (in Russian, “A Book of A Thousand and One Nights”). The impressive edition depicts the life story of a lustful Chinese merchant who has devoted himself to spending his days among his wives, concubines and other “divas of amusement”. The profound publication includes a great amount of comments, remarks, scientific articles and original engravings. The new, impressively expanded (compared with the first 1977 edition in 2 volumes) scientific publication was prepared by several generations of Russian scholars in the field of Chinese studies. The editor-in-chief and supervisor of the project Artyom Kobzev (Moscow Institute for Oriental Studies) has provided a brilliant edition, having created an opportunity for a wider audience to become acquainted with a unique and educational history of ancient China.

Resumen
We are beginning a new cycle of the Brazilian Journal of Exercise Physiology. In these next two years (2020-2021), I will be in charge of the scientific edition of the magazine and I will certainly need your help to build an increasingly interesting, solid and good scientific quality journal.Initially I would like to thank the executive editors Jean-Louis Peytavin and Guillermina Arias for the invitation and trust. I would also like to thank all colleagues who gladly accepted the invitation to participate in the scientific council of the magazine. And finally, I would like to thank the reviewers, who are an essential part of maintaining a scientific journal. As you can see, we implemented some changes already in this edition. Now all articles will be published in at least two versions - Portuguese and English and some in Spanish and English. This change is important for our magazine to achieve greater international visibility. English is the universal language of research, therefore, for our articles to be read by other nationalities, who do not speak Portuguese, they must also be in the English version. Therefore, we are calling on all researchers to translate it into English after the final acceptance of their article. With this, we hope, in addition to increasing the journal's visibility and favoring its internationalization, to attract the attention of researchers from other countries so that they also publish in our journal. You will also notice the change in the layout of the articles. We try to make your visualization more professional, making the name of the magazine, the DOI, the name of the authors very visible and even in the header, we insert an item - “How to Cite”, which already makes the way of citing the article in Vancouver, the norm ready, that most scientific journals use as a standard for their references. I cannot forget to give credit to Marvyn de Santana do Sacramento, who created this new format. You will also observe that some authors recorded short videos presenting their articles. This idea is intended to increase the magazine's visibility, as these videos can be sent through social networks and arouse the interest of other readers. In addition, we are aiming to publish six issues a year and are also beginning to accept new types of articles. Until today, the Brazilian Journal of Exercise Physiology basically published original articles, case reports and reviews. We are encouraging researchers to send us opinion articles, updates, letters to the editor and commented articles. The rules for these new article templates will be available in detail in the next edition. In this magazine, you will find an opinion article sent by Professor Marzo Grigoletto and an update sent by Professor Giulliano Gardenghi, who also received the designation of featured article of this edition. We hope to receive more and more of these new article formats. We also aim to join other Databases such as Lilacs and DOAJ. For that, we need to comply with some publication rules required by these databases. Some mentioned above and another such as the ORCID required, for example, by Lilacs. Therefore, we are requesting that all authors make their ORCID. It's fast and can be done at the link: https://orcid.org/Finally, we hope that these initial changes will serve the most demanding readers and address the needs of our researchers and collaborators. Feel free to send us suggestions, criticisms andtell us what you most enjoyed. My contact email is: jefferson@portalatlanticaeditora.com.br

Resumen
In a 1990 review of Jenny Bourne Taylor's In the Secret Theatre of Home: Wilkie Collins, Sensation Narrative, and Nineteenth-Century Psychology (1988), Lawrence Rothfield commented that the book explores what “until recently might have seemed a bizarrely specialized cultural context and an equally obscure literary phenomenon” (97). Rothfield argued that Taylor's study was representative of the recent move to new historicist methodologies, which made contexts and authors once considered to be historical footnotes important to scholarship. Prior to that shift, “[n]ineteenth-century English psychology, a mishmash of scientifically dubious theories and practices such as phrenology, physiognomy, moral management, and mesmerism, hardly seemed key to understanding the broad cultural issues of concern as traditionally construed in Victorian studies” (97). Strikingly, now some twenty-five years later, knowledge of nineteenth-century psychology seems essential to the field. Presses, alert to that shift, have republished out-of-print literary studies that explored Victorian literature in relation to psychology in the years preceding the current surge of interest in the subject. (Faas's 1989 Retreat into the Mind: Victorian Poetry and the Rise of Psychiatry was reissued by Princeton University Press in a 2016 hardcover edition. Kearns's 1987 Metaphors of Mind in Fiction and Psychology was reissued in 2014 by the University of Kentucky Press.) Judging by the number of publications in the area, as well as by titles on the programs of recent conferences, the sciences of the mind have become one of the central topics in Victorian studies.

Resumen
Abstract My article focuses on the Franco-Italian poem Attila Flagellum Dei, composed by Nicolò da Càsola, an Italian notary, in the second half of the XIV century for the Estensi in Ferrara, in order to celebrate the heroic origins of the family: actually, it is the first encomiastic poem dedicated to them, before the major works by Boiardo and Ariosto. The poem is witnessed by a single manuscript (divided into two tomes), supposedly in the hand of the author himself. My study provides a new biographic profile of Nicolò and his family, also through an overview of some archival documents from the Archivio di Stato in Bologna. The article also presents a brief summary of the narration, and outlines the principal characters, the positive ones (Forest and Gilius in particular) as well as the negative ones (Attila), seen as prototypes alluding to other fictional or historical figures (Forest = Hector of Troy; Attila = the entire Visconti’s family). At last, my paper offers a sample (the proem) of the critical and commented edition I am working at. The text is preceded by an analysis that illustrates its peculiar linguistic features, with a particular regard on the rhymes: indeed, far from being representative of the generic class of Franco-italian works composed by Italo-Romance authors, the poem Attila Flagellum Dei shows a combination of hypercharacterized French and Italo-Romance dialects of Northern Italy.

Komenský and “Age of Extremes” among Slovenes 1: Didactica magna (The Great Didactic) and Komenský in its latest Edition The discussion presents a semantic, rhetorical, historiographical, methodological and editorial analysis of the only edition of Jan Amos Komenský’s fundamental work in the modern Slovene language—Didactica magna or The Great Didactic (Sl. Velika didaktika, Novo mesto, 1995)—that was met with reception (i.e., was accessible to the public). The analysis suggests that this edition—for reasons unexplained—lacks the basic determinants of scientific work and thus cannot be a valid ground for the reception of Jan Amos Komenský, either for the reader-expert or for the general reader. From the editorial point of view, the edition does not provide clear information about the original text, and there is no editorial report or comment on individual passages of the original / translation, e.g. unravelling citations in the original—all of which have been the standard knowledge repertoire of scientific editions of sources, even scholarly critical editions of translations since the early 19th century. The edition is not based on the scientific publication Dílo Jana Amose Komenského 15/1 (Academia: Praha, 1986), which since its publication has been the primary textual base for every reader-expert’s understanding of The Great Didactic and a mandatory textual starting point for re-creative reception in the form of translation. The analysed edition does not include comments, and since it only provides translation without any additional knowledge apparatus, it cannot be considered as popularizing either. The current situation impedes a full reception of Komenský and indicates the need to prepare a new critical translated edition of his selected didactic writings, where optimal results could be achieved by collaboration of experts from various disciplines (different branches of historiography, didactics, pedagogy, history of science). The edition should be 1) written in modern literary language and based on the historical-critical edition of Dílo Jana Amosa Komenského. 2) It should include selected fundamental didactic writings of Komenský, 3) obligatory editorial and translation report, 4) explanatory comments and translations, and 5) European studies on Komenský in his time, as well as 6) discussions on the reception of Komenský in Slovenia. Keywords: Komenský (Comenius), Didactica magna (The Great Didactic), reception, editology, edition

Resumen
The year 2020 was profoundly marked by the emergence and spread of SARS-CoV-2, causing COVID-19, which represents the greatest pandemic of the 21st century until now, and a major challenge for virologists in the scientific and medical communities. Increased numbers of SARS-CoV-2 infection all over the world imposed social and travel restrictions, including avoidance of face-to-face scientific meetings. Therefore, for the first time in history, the 2020 edition of the Brazilian Society of Virology (SBV) congress was totally online. Despite the challenge of the new format, the Brazilian society board and collaborators were successful in virtually congregating more than 921 attendees, which was the greatest SBV participant number ever reached. Seminal talks from prominent national and international researchers were presented every night, during a week, and included discussions about environmental, basic, animal, human, plant and invertebrate virology. A special roundtable debated exclusively new data and perspectives regarding COVID-19 by some of the greatest Brazilian virologists. Women scientists were very well represented in another special roundtable called “Young Women Inspiring Research”, which was one of the most viewed and commented section during the meeting, given the extraordinary quality of the presented work. Finally, SBV offered the Helio Gelli Pereira award for one graduate and one undergraduate student, which has also been a fruitful collaboration between the society and Viruses journal. The annual SBV meeting has, therefore, reached its goals to inspire young scientists, stimulate high-quality scientific discussion and to encourage global collaboration between virologists.

Paraules clau: Poesia catalana, literatura barroca, dones, setge de Barcelona, Guerra de Successió Espanyola Abstract: During the Bourbon siege of 1706, the inhabitants of Barcelona launched a counter-offensive in order to recover the fortress of Montjuïc. The women of the city played a significant role in this actions and their participation was praised in an account of events written in verse that circulated through a libel entitled Proeses que les barceloneses dones han ostentat en este siti de l’any 1706 (Feats that Barcelona women have shown in this site of the year 1706). This work is well known in the field of historiography, but nonetheless, until this moment, no approach has been proposed providing the reader with a philologically reliable, updated and commented edition of the complete poem. Therefore this is the objective of the present work. To achieve this objective, the article is structured in three parts: 1) the framing of the text in its historical and cultural context; 2) its description and interpretation in the light of the methodological and conceptual tools of literary theory and comparative literature; and 3) the establishment of the text based on the critical comparison of all the available printed testimonials and its edition, with the spelling adaptation and the corresponding critical apparatus.. Resumen
The Book of Historical Documents (Shu jing) is an ancient Chinese written monument, a collection of addresses of the ruler to the subjects and of the subjects to the rulers. The philosophical meaning of Shu jing is that it mentions or refers to the issues of a broad ideological order. These brief references either gave life to philosophical ideas, or later, after appropriate interpretation, were used by the philosophers to authoritatively confirm their thoughts. The first complete Russian translation of Shu jing was done by Archimandrite Daniil (Dmitriy Petrovich Sivillov, 1789-1871) in the early 40s of the 19th century. The translation was undertaken, first and primarily, as a teaching material assigned to students of the Chinese Language Cathedra at the Kazan Imperial University. This cathedra was first one established in Russia and the second one in Europe. Archimandrite Daniel was its first head in 1837-1844. Unfortunately, the translator have never had a chance to publish his work. Sivillov for the first time in Russian and European Sinology used a purely Chinese commented edition of The Book . The canonical text used by Sivillov and later his followers was considered and understood through the prism of modern Neoconfucianism, which, in comparison with ancient and early medieval Confucianism, reinterpreted and significantly enriched the philosophical meaning of the Shu jing . In some points of understanding of the Neoconfucian interpretation of the ancient text, Archimandrite Daniil was not only ahead of, but also more successful than his later colleagues. The text of the previously unpublished Shu jing Chapter III Da Yu mo Russian translation by archimandrite Daniil is attached.

Abstract This article analyses the correction work carried out by Charles Nodier, one of the most important French lexicographers of the 19th century, as editor of the Dictionnaire universel de la langue française (1834) by P. C-V. Boiste, also known as the Pan-Lexique. Based on a selection of entries from Nodier’s Examen critique des dictionnaires de la langue française (1828), where he critically commented on the different editions of Boiste’s dictionary (1800, 1803, 1812 and 1823), we study whether Nodier followed his own recommendations and corrected these entries in his work as editor of the Pan-Lexique (1834).

Abstract The AMA Guides to the Evaluation of Permanent Impairment (AMA Guides) is widely used in federal workers’ compensation, Longshore and Harbor Workers’ Act, and automobile casualty (personal injury) cases. The AMA Guides, Fifth Edition, is widely used, but not all state workers’ compensation systems make use of the current edition; in fact, relevant state statutes may or may not specify which edition of the AMA Guides to use and how to do so. Thirty-six states make use of the AMA Guides within their workers’ compensation systems, and 23 states use the Fifth Edition. Eleven states use the AMA Guides, Fourth Edition: Alabama, Arkansas, Connecticut, Delaware, Indiana (both Fourth and Fifth Editions), Kansas, Maine, Maryland, South Dakota, Texas, and West Virginia. Two states use the Third Edition, Revised: Colorado and Oregon. Some states do not use the AMA Guides and instead rely on state specific guidelines, and these include California, Florida, Illinois, Minnesota, New York, North Carolina, Utah, and Wisconsin. Other states may use their own guidelines for specific issues and use the AMA Guides for other issues (eg, state of Washington). Some states do not specify the use of any specific guidelines, including Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New Jersey, South Carolina, and Virginia. A table summarizes state statutes dealing with rating impairment in workers’ compensation cases, including AMA Guides edition most used, statute/code, comments, and relevant websites.

Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky and Grand Duke Konstantin Konstantinovich (the august poet K. R.) were linked by many years of friendship and creative cooperation. After the composer’s death (October 25, 1893), K. R. became involved in the process of perpetuating his memory. The posthumous dialogue was manifested in various forms: Grand Duke Konstantin Konstantinovich’s participation in church and secular memorial ceremonies, private commemorations, and his close communication with M.I. Tchaikovsky and V.L. Davydov — the composer’s brother and nephew. In addition, K. R. reexamined his creative and epistolary communication with the composer, whose memory he would pass on to his children. These and other aspects are considered in three sections of the proposed article: 1) “Under the Sign of the Liturgy Op. 41” (this spiritual and musical work runs through the whole life of the Grand Duke); 2) “The Grand Duke and M.I. Tchaikovsky” (a key figure in the “human” aspect); 3) “K. R. Reads ‘The Life of Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’” (one of the most important findings was a copy of the book ‘The Life of Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’, which belonged to Grand Duke and bears his notes; they retrospectively reflect the process of in-depth family reading). The article is based on documentary materials from Russian and foreign collections (including the State Archive of the Russian Federation and the Library of Congress, USA), many of which are introduced into scientific use for the first time. The article uses methods of comparative source studies. The materials of the article can be used in a course of the history of Russian music, as well as in a modern commented edition of the epistolary heritage and diaries of P.I. Tchaikovsky, M.I. Tchaikovsky and Grand Duke Konstantin Konstantinovich.

Resumen
The little-known factsof the work of N. S. Ashukin, S. I. Ozhegov and V. A. Filippov on the original lexicographic edition of the 1940s — “Dictionary to the plays of A. N. Ostrovsky” is analyzed in the article. The connection between the socio-cultural situation in the country and the scientific research of those years is shown. Special attention is paid to the facts of ideological pressure on philological thought. The circumstances that hindered the publication of the Dictionary are revealed. For the first time, genuine letters from the participants in this project, telling about the ambiguous situation in Glavlit (Soviet Main Administration for Safeguarding State Secrets in the Press) and the intention of the authors to save the manuscript from death are published in the appendix. It tells about further attempts of scientists and their descendants to resume the preparation of the publication of the book in the 1960—1970s. The facts given in the correspondence are commented on from the standpoint of history and philosophy of science, the necessary references are indicated, possible comparisons are made with the events and persons mentioned in the letters. The presented fragment of the linguistic picture of the world is also considered in the key of the development of linguistic personality and its role in the era of dictatorship. Attention is drawn to the high historical value of the undertaken work and its place in the lexicographic tradition of the XX century. It is concluded that archival materials play a key role in reconstructing the real picture of the life and activities of Soviet scientists, supplement the chronicle of science with valuable observations and contribute to an objective assessment of the achievements of philologists, show their firm position in upholding the interests of science during the dominance of ideologization in society.

Resumen
Abstract The AMA Guides to the Evaluation of Permanent Impairment, (AMA Guides), Fifth Edition, is the most widely used basis for determining impairment and is used in state workers’ compensation systems, federal systems, automobile casualty cases, and personal injury cases. The AMA Guides is used in most state workers’ compensation jurisdictions: 25 states use the fifth edition; 10 use the fourth edition, 1 state uses a hybrid of the fourth and fifth editions, and 2 states use the third edition, revised; 6 states use their own state-specific guidelines, and 6 do not indicate a specific guideline. Statutes may or may not specify which edition of the AMA Guides to use nor how to use them. In addition, many states use a statutory schedule for amputations, hearing loss, visual loss, hernias, and disfigurement, and other states use the AMA Guides for nonscheduled injuries. The AMA Guides often is used to quantify the extent of injuries resulting from an automobile casualty or personal injury. Insurers may use an impairment rating as a factor in setting reserves and determining the settlement value of a claim, and attorneys may use this information to quantify the effects of an injury. A four-page table displays uses of the AMA Guides in state workers’ compensation plans, including the edition most commonly used, the statute/code, comments, and relevant websites.

Resumen
The chapter of Locke’s An Essay Concerning Human Understanding (hereafter Essay) entitled ‘Of Power’ is notoriously difficult to interpret. It is long, complicated, went through a substantive overhaul in advance of the second edition of the Essay, and was even further amended for the fourth and fifth editions. One of the questions about ‘Of Power’ that has vexed commentators is whether the notion of a power to suspend desire, added in the second edition, indicates that Locke thinks that some events are not determined by antecedent causal factors, namely, the activity of the power to suspend. One of Locke’s correspondents, Philippus van Limborch, thought that it did, and pressed Locke on this point in a series of letters from 1701–2. Vere Chappell has stated that certain comments, in particular of the fifth edition, strongly suggest that Locke takes the act of suspending desire to be caused by an undetermined volition. On this view, when we suspend our desire for a particular object the volition to do so occurs without being determined by any antecedent causal factor.

Resumen
Heinrich Meier 's careful and illuminating study of the relation between Carl Schmitt and Leo Strauss should come as something of a revelation to many* Through a painstaking analysis of the three editions of Schmitt's influential Concept of the Political, Meier uncovers a heretofore largely overlooked “dialogue,” albeit one partly conducted “in absentia.”As Meier observes Schmitt is one of a relatively small number of contemporaries whose work Strauss publicly reviewed. The first edition of Schmitt's essay appeared in 1927; a second was published in 1932, and it is to this that Strauss's 1932 “Comments” is (openly) addressed. A second was published in 1932. A third edition, published in 1933, presents, on Meier's reading, Schmitt's implicit response. For a variety of reasons, not the least being Schmitt's increasing involvement with the National Socialists, Strauss's role as interlocutor went largely unacknowledged, it being “impossible,” as Strauss would later write, for Schmitt to admit his “dependence on a Jew” (p. 138).
