Resumen
This paper presents the features of corn as raw material for groat industry. Corn is used in many segments of the food andprocessing industry. corn is processed for traditional food products — groats, flakes, flour, extruded foods, and other corn byproductsare widely used for the production of dry breakfast cereals, snacks, cereal bars. In terms of using of the advanced processingtechnologies, the industry produces starch, gluten, and germs. Corn germ is used to produce the high-value vegetable oil, aswell as starch — for both food and non-food purposes. More than half (65%) of corn is used for feed purposes, 25% –technical purposes, and nearly 20% – for various types of food production. corn is processed for traditional food products — groats, flakes, flour, extruded foods, and other corn by-products are widely used for the production of dry breakfast cereals, snacks, cereal bars. For thecolour, corn is divided into white and yellow types. According to the literature data analysis, yellow corn is more used in China,Argentina, Brazil, while white corn — in some countries of Asia, Latin America, and the Balkan countries. Depending on itsmorphological features, the corn kernelis divided into various groups, species and subspecies. In Ukraine corn kernel is classified into 8 types, with separately defined limitations on the content of the major crop in thebatch, grains of other type, etc. Corn of І-VІІІ types with the quality indicators specified in the standard, for the production of foodproducts. Flint and dent corn types are the most applied grain varieties in the industry, they are widely used in the production segmentof food and feed products. Sweet corn is widely used as a vegetable crop in the food canning, food concentrates, starch andbrewing industries due to its flavor properties. Popped corn is not only the most convenient raw material for the production of popcorn, but it also can be used as the raw material for the production of corn curls and dry breakfast cereals By analyzing the weightfraction of fat in kernels of different corn varieties we can note that the lowest number of fat is typical for popped corn (4.0%) andthe largest – for sweet corn (9.1%); dent and flint corn have the same total fat number (4.5-4.9%).Test weight of corn types – poppedcorn ranges within 712-826 g/l, dent corn - 875-893 g/l, and flint corn - 768-786 g/l. The weight of 1000 kernels of corn dependingon the varieties changes within 150-600 g.

Resumen
How a company conducts business is often a consumer concern. Individuals have accused company after company of monopolistic behavior. These individuals have also criticized the Department of Justice for not stopping a monopoly from forming in a specific industry. An example is the corn seed industry, where stakeholders have accused companies of monopolistic behavior. Recent mergers and acquisitions in the corn seed industry have left fewer companies in control, and because of this consolidation, individuals are urging the government to act. This Comment argues that, while the corn seed industry is on the road to containing a monopoly, the industry does not yet contain enough characteristics to warrant a government response. However, when a monopoly does form, the government should, and likely will, act.

Resumen
The fuel ethanol industry has been in rapid development in recent years with the US as a leading force, which consumes large amount of corn. In order to assess the impact of corn-ethanol production on global corn price, a VAR model is used in this paper. By impulse responses analysis and variance decomposition analysis the direct impact of corn-ethanol production on global corn price and its relative importance compared with other external factors are proved. The results show that increasing amount of corn used for US ethanol production leads to rapid increases of global corn price when the corn production is steady. The proportion of corn used for ethanol production among total corn production in the US plays an important role in affecting global corn price among all external factors, and the significance of its impact will enhance in the long run. The fuel ethanol industry should turn to non-grain materials in the future to keep the global corn price steady and guarantee global food security, and it’s necessary for all fuel ethanol producers to take action.

Resumen
In 2021, Mexico produced approximately 24.2 million tons of white corn, generating 3.6 million tons of corn cob residue. The final disposal of corn cob poses an environmental challenge in certain regions. This study examines the technical–economic feasibility and the greenhouse gas (GHG) mitigation potential of integrating a small-scale cogenerating gasifier fueled by corn cob into a nixtamalized corn flour manufacturing small and medium-sized enterprise (SME). This integration enables the generation of heat and electricity from the produced synthesis gas. Moreover, the process yields residual carbon, which can be used as biochar for soil restoration and removing atmospheric CO2. This option holds significance for the corn flour agroindustry in Mexico, as, in 2021, it consumed approximately 601.9 GWh of electrical energy and 938,279 GJ of thermal energy from LP Gas in its manufacturing processes to produce 2.6 million tons of nixtamalized white corn flour. These processes contributed to a total emission of 410,232 tons of CO2 into the atmosphere. The findings of this study demonstrate a cumulative reduction of 51.7% in CO2 emissions, resulting in economic benefits of USD 85,401 in 2017 for a case study SME that annually produces 1039 tons of corn flour. This study reveals the integration of a gasifier–cogenerator system fueled by corn cob as an economically viable low-carbon technology in the corn flour manufacturing industry.

Tirtomulyo Village is located in the sub-district of Kretek, at the southern tip of Bantul District. Agricultural potential in this village is still widely open including their processed products, considering the productive lands are suitable for any kind of crops, i.e. corn. Corn is one of the most planted crops in this village. For extra earning, corns are also used as raw materials in processed corn products, i.e. corn chips. Corn chips industry in this village is quite well developed but the lack of packaging and labelling make this agroindustry a little hampered in its marketing. The method used in this research is to mentoring and educating the coummunity especially the agroindustry persons about the marketing strategy, particularly the packaging and labelling. Results from this service, the community succeed to make branding, labelling, and registration in the Department of Health and the Department of Industry, Trade and Cooperatives at Bantul District as a household industry based on processed agricultural products. By labelling the products and has been registered at the relevant institutions, it is expected that the corn chips agroindustry is being stimulated and developed in a much broader scale.

Resumen
Recently, as the international corn price continues to rise it might be burdensome for the domestic feed industry who use the corn as a major input. The feed industry has raised the feed prices by 15~20% along with the price increase. The higher corn price and increased volatility should affect the profitability of feed companies and the value of the companies listed in the stock market. It is interesting to know whether the corn price increases hurt the feed companies as much as livestock farms as the feed prices rises. This study seeks to determine the effects of the price of corn prices on the equity prices of feed companies in Korea using the multivariate GARCH-in-mean model. The model also includes the exchange rate and freight rates to see how the market responses to these important factors affecting the profitability of the industry. The results show that the size and direction of impacts of those factors are somewhat different, suggesting separate hedge plans for the feed companies and strategies for stabilizing feed price.

Resumen
The objective of this study was to evaluate the fermentative characteristics, chemical composition, and in vitro digestibility of a total mixed ration silage containing two babassu by-products, starchy flour and babassu cake. The treatments were distributed in a completely randomised design containing four treatments and five replications. The treatments consisted of corn silage, corn silage based on the standard corn and soybean diet, corn silage with babassu flour, and corn silage with babassu cake. No significant difference was observed in the pH values (p = 0.256) for the studied silages. Higher values for dry matter recovery were observed for the silages of the total diets. The corn silage presented lower lactic acid production (55.15 g/kg DM) and acetic acid (11.54 g/kg DM) in relation to the total ration silages. The inclusion of babassu by-products increased the dry matter (p < 0.001), crude protein (p < 0.001), and total digestible nutrient content (p < 0.001) in the total ration silages. Silage in the form of the total ration containing regional babassu by-products improved the fermentative profile of the silages and the nutritional value of the diets, endowing them with potential for use as a feed alternative for dairy cattle.

Resumen
Corn commodity has a strategic role whose demand continues to increase for industrial needs, especially the animal feed industry. The high fluctuations in corn prices occur because a balanced supply has not accompanied the increasing demand for corn. The study aimed to analyze the integration of the maize market at the feed mill level with the maize market at the farmer and global levels. The method used is quantitative with secondary data. Data analysis using Vector Error Correction Model (VECM). The results show that the corn market in the long term at the feed mill level is integrated with the corn market at the farmer and global levels. However, only corn markets at the farmer level are integrated with feed mills in the short term.

Large-scale cultivation of corn for grain is an urgent task of the functioning of Belarusian agricultural organizations. For this purpose, technological methods of growing this crop have been worked out and tested in production conditions. The biological features of local maize varieties are determined taking into account natural and climatic conditions. In Belarus, the sown area of corn harvested for grain increased by more than 1,7 times in 2016– 2018, the gross grain harvest increased by 45 %. The average yield of 1 ha of crop during this period fluctuated in significant aisles – from 5 to 6,5 tons of grain. Such a low indicator indicates an insufficient level of intensity of the industry, especially in agricultural organizations. An indepth study of the production, economic and financial results of the work of the corn industry was carried out on the example of the agricultural production cooperative “Progress-Vertelishki” of the Grodno region for 2016–2018. Considerable attention in the APC is paid to the cultivation of corn for grain. In 2018, corn accounted for up to 32 % of the gross grain harvest in this agricultural organization. Among the production and economic indicators, labor productivity occupies an important place, therefore, considerable attention is paid to it in the article. In the APC “Progress-Vertelishki” during the study period, positive results were obtained when selling corn grain: the sale of products turned out to be sustainably profitable with fluctuations from 41,3 to 83,1 %.

Resumen
Together with the increasing health awareness levels of consumers’, artificial food additives have been highly criticized by the public. However, these kinds of sweeteners are still being used widely all over the world. One of the sectors that prefer mostly these kinds of sweeteners is the soft drink industry. High fructose corn syrup, which has been associated with serious health problems recently, is one of these additives which is highly preferred in the soft drink industry. Upon examining the situation, it is understood that there is a conflict between the implementations of the soft drink industry and consumer attitudes towards them. However, it is seen that the consumers’ perspective is not clarified enough empirically in terms of this issue. This means that the players of the soft drink industry have a lack of insight in terms of consumer thoughts and attitudes regarding artificial sweetener usage in soft drinks. Owing to this research gap in the literature and the importance of the subject in terms of consumer well-being, this study aims to explore the antecedents for the acceptance of high fructose corn syrup usage in soft drinks. To reach this aim, four research questions represented to understand how frequent consumers prefer soft drinks containing high fructose corn syrup, to reveal consumers’ attitudes and acceptance towards high fructose corn syrup and to understand how nutritional knowledge and nutritional information interest affect consumers’ acceptance specifically on high fructose corn syrup usage in soft drinks. To answer these questions, a structured survey was developed and conducted on 888 soft drink consumers who are aware of high fructose corn syrup in soft drinks as an additive

Resumen
With the development of the COVID-19 and the intensification of global warming, agricultural production is highly volatile and the global food crisis may further intensify. According to the recent studies in China and the United States, the research on the influencing factors of agricultural products is crucial. In this paper, when analyzing the influencing factors of agricultural products industry based on multiple linear regression model, the corn industry is taken as an example. The independent variables China CPI, U.S. CPI, China-U.S. exchange rate, S&P 500 index and export agricultural price index are selected, and the dependent variables are China corn futures price Y1 and U.S. corn futures price Y2, and the data all started from August 2021 to end in July 2022. Spss software is used to get the final corresponding results. A comparison of the factors influencing corn futures prices in China and the U.S. shows that corn futures prices fluctuate due to studied factors and that corn dominates agricultural futures in both countries. Moreover, as living standards improve, the demand for corn changes in different directions in these two countries, but both countries will experience less investment in agricultural futures.

Resumen
In a series of processes which occur in various processing industries, it is necessary that the raw materials, finished products or intermediate products to be grind to accelerate the technological phase, to obtain a product from raw materials or even only for commercialization the products [1]. Modeling program can be used to study and understand the behavior of an individual grain under compression stress. The results from previous studies have shown that the modeling program can be used [2] for predicting the grain deformation, the compression stress and the energy consumption obtained as a consequence of the grain compression process. This paper presents a comparison of a modeling and experimental study on the influence of the physical properties of a single corn seed on compression grinding process. The mathematical model by finite element method for the corn compression process is made in order to establish the forces that appear to the first cracks of the grain, to determine the maximum force of the corn compression, the deformations of the grain resulted after the compression and the energy consumption during the compression process. For this simulation it was used the mechanical structural module in 3D space of the COMSOL Multiphysics software. The experimental researches were carried out on an individual corn seed, using the materials testing machine Zwick / Roell 5 kN, to which was adapted the compression device [3]. In the experimental researches have been followed the same properties as at the mathematical modeling.

Resumen
Corn is an agricultural commodity that is quite potential to be developed due to various factors, apart from being a food ingredient, corn also contains a lot of carbohydrates second after rice and corn is also used as an ingredient in the animal feed industry. In addition to being animal feed, corn can also be processed into a product that has a high added value for the corn itself, one of which is made into processed corn marning which has a distinctive taste. The corn marning produced by UD Ajum Pertama is located in Kalianget Timur Village, this corn marning business was initiated in the 90s which was later developed into one of the home corn marning industries which is quite liked by the people of Sumenep. The success of a home industry will not escape the problems that exist, so that these problems result in delays in the process of production activities. The problems experienced by UD Ajum Pertama include a lack of understanding about marketing competition for corn marning products. So the opportunity to enter the world of marketing is very minimal. The results of the analysis show that marketing in the production of marning corn at UD Ajum Pertama has met the Marketing Mix aspect, namely the 4P (product, price, place, promotion) namely the product, namely in the form of marning corn, the price (price), namely there are various price options, place (place), namely there are 4 different places, promotion (promotion), namely for the promotion aspect, producers still promote their products directly to consumers. For the marketing channel process in UD Ajum Pertama maize marning is currently quite developed, there are 3 marketing channels, each of which has its own efficiency value, for the most efficient marketing channel is channel 1.

Resumen
In recent decades, the expansion of alternative fuels production from crops traditionally used for food and animal feed has led to significant changes in the field of energy production, agriculture and food industry. Starch and sugar feedstocks for ethanol production (corn, wheat, sugar beet, sugar cane, etc.) require increasing arable land to meet market demands for the biofuel production. Although intensive studies are being carried out in order to identify improved and more cost-effective methods for the utilization of lignocellulosic and communal waste in the production of alcohol fuel, the possibility of using dry distillers? grains with solubles (DDGS), by-product of bioethanol production from corn and wheat as well as alcoholic beverages industry, is now in focus. Application of DDGS in livestock and poultry diets in concentrations greater than traditional could positively affect the economic viability of this biofuel production, but also stabilize the current imbalance in the food and animal feed market. However, DDGS feedstuff should not be treated as a perfect substitute for corn because the complexity of ration formulation determined at the farm or feedlot level is driven by energy and protein and other nutrient requirements, as well as their relative costs in the ration. Nevertheless, processing of corn by wet milling provides a multitude of co-products suitable for feedstuffs, food industry, pharmaceuticals, chemistry etc. Some of the most important wet milling co-products that have their use in feedstuffs are corn gluten feed and corn gluten meal. The use of DDGS as a substitute for traditional feed could prevent indirect land-use changes associated with biofuel production, and therefore preserve the environmental destruction by saving the forests and permanent pastures. The use of distiller?s grains can be beneficial to biofuel growth as this is an additional, the second largest, source of income accounting of 10-20% total income. In this paper, the possibilities of by-products from corn grain bioethanol and alcoholic beverages production are represented. Emphasis is placed on the dry distillers' grains with solubles, which is the most abundant and for researchers currently the most attractive co-product of bioethanol industry. Co-products from wet milling starch and ethanol production have not yet been thoroughly investigated and therefore represent an interesting subject for further research.

Resumen
Abstract The western corn rootworm, Diabrotica virgifera virgifera LeConte (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae), is considered the most important maize (Zea mays L.) pest in the U.S. Corn Belt. Bioassays testing susceptibility to Bacillus thuringiensis Berliner (Bt) and other toxins of corn rootworm larvae often rely on artificial diet formulations. Successful bioassays on artificial diet for corn rootworm have sometimes been challenging because of microbial contamination. Toward the long-term goal of developing a universal artificial diet for western corn rootworm larvae, we compared larval survival, dry weight, and percentage of molt in 10-d bioassays from six current diets of which we were aware. In addition, as part of longer term rearing efforts, we recorded molting over an extended period of development (60 d). Six different artificial diets, including four proprietary industry diets (A, B, C, and D), the first published artificial diet for western corn rootworm (Pleau), and a new diet (WCRMO-1) were evaluated. Western corn rootworm larval survival was above 90% and contamination was 0% on all diets for 10 d. Diet D resulted in the greatest dry weight and percentage molting when compared with the other diets. Although fourth-instar western corn rootworm larvae have not been documented previously (only three instars have been previously documented), as many as 10% of the larvae from Diet B molted into a fourth instar prior to pupating. Overall, significant differences were found among artificial diets currently used to screen western corn rootworm. In order for data from differing toxins to be compared, a single, reliable and high-quality western corn rootworm artificial diet should eventually be chosen by industry, academia, and the public as a standard for bioassays.

Resumen
Abstract There is a lack of information regarding the characteristics and potential of specialty corn in Indonesia, resulting in its limited use as a raw material in the corn processing industry. Starches were isolated from four varieties of biodiversity-specialty corn (Srikandi Kuning, Srikandi Ungu, Pulut Uri, and Provitamin A), one line of specialty corn (Dent-type), and one imported corn from Argentina. The aim of this study was to gather data on the physicochemical and functional properties of Indonesian specialty corn starch, which is to be used as the base to increase the value of those biodiversity. Starch yields ranged from 34.30 to 49.22%. The starches met the SNI (Indonesian National Standard) requirements for both water content (6.90–8.72%) and white degree value (86.40–105.46%). There were variations in the starch contents of starches from 72.03 to 82.75%, and in the amylose contents from 6.32 to 31.47%. Starch granules showed oval and polygonal shapes with sizes ranging from 2.93 to 18.36 mm. Pasting profile and thermal properties showed the differences among the starches. The Dent-type corn starch had the lowest breakdown value of all the Indonesian specialty corn types, while imported corn starch had the lowest breakdown value of all the starches, showing the greatest stability during heating and stirring. In terms of peak temperature and enthalpy value, they ranged from 82.9°C to 92.71°C and from 85.94 to 551.93 J/g. The present study is expected to provide information about characteristics of Indonesian specialty corn starch, then subsequently, it can be utilized by the food industry, and increase the value of our national biodiversity.
