There are a couple of inherent shortcomings which are hard to be overcome in single topology network; thus we propose a novel routing protocol—VCHR, i.e., Virtual Cluster-based Hybrid Routing, which employs hybrid topology, bears the stamp of flat and hierarchical routing protocol. At stage of hierarchical routing, VCHR draws on the idea of the virtual cluster; base station controls clustering process based on network coverage control criteria in centralized model, and ensuring the reliability of virtual clusters by making use of the three-way handshake mechanism. Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) have attracted increasing attention during the two last decades. Indeed, their applications target a wide range of fields such as healthcare, industrial control, environmental monitoring, etc. The main challenge of WSNs is the limitation of resources requiring efficient management of energy consumption. Coverage is also considered as one of the critical indicators of the quality of service (QoS) of WSNs. Therefore, the design of routing protocols should focus on energy efficiency and network coverage. In this paper, the authors propose a novel energy-efficient c

Currently, wireless sensor network (WSN) protocols are mainly used to achieve low power consumption of the network, but there are few studies on the quality of services (QoS) of these networks. Coverage can be used as a measure of the WSN’s QoS, which can further reflect the quality of data information. Additionally, the coverage requirements of regional monitoring target points are different in real applications. On this basis, this paper proposes an energy-efficient clustering routing protocol based on a high-QoS node deployment with an inter-cluster routing mechanism (EECRP-HQSND-ICRM) in W

The paper presents a new cluster based routing algorithm that exploits the redundancy properties of the sensor networks in order to address the traditional problem of load balancing and energy efficiency in the WSNs.The algorithm makes use of the nodes in a sensor network of which area coverage is covered by the neighbours of the nodes and mark them as temporary cluster heads. The algorithm then forms two layers of multi hop communication. The bottom layer which involves intra cluster communication and the top layer which involves inter cluster communication involving the temporary cluster hea

Wireless Sensor Nodes (WSNs) are small in size and have limited energy resources. Recent technological advances have facilitated widespread use of wireless sensor networks in many real world applications. In real life situations WSN has to cover an area or monitor a number of nodes on a plane. Sensor node's coverage range is proportional to their cost, as high cost sensor nodes have higher coverage ranges. The main goal of this paper is to minimize the node placement cost with the help of uniform and non-uniform 2D grid planes. Authors propose a new algorithm for data transformation between strongly connected sensor nodes, based on graph theory.

Resumen
Traffic is an inevitable problem for metro cities around the globe. Intelligent traffic management system helps to improve the traffic flow by detecting congestions or incidents and suggesting appropriate actions on traffic routing. A new and dynamic internet-based decision-making tool for traffic management system was proposed and implemented in authors' previous works. The tool needs weather, road, and vehicle-related integrated information from different data repositories. Several online web portals host real-time weather data streams. However, road and vehicle information are missing in those portals. In addition, their coverage is limited to city-level congregate information but precise road segment-based information is necessary for real-time TMS decision. Internet of things (IoT)-based online sensors can be a solution for this circumstance. As a consequence, in this chapter, an IoT-based framework is proposed and implemented with several remote mobile agents. Agents are securely interconnected to the cloud, and able to collect and exchange data through wireless communication.

Resumen
This chapter shows the interconnection issues in different wireless networks such as ad hoc networks and sensor networks. It also specifies the need for multicast routing protocols in mobile networks, because these wireless networks are suitable for multicast communication due to its inherent transmission ability. Based on the area to be covered, mechanism used for sensor deployment, and various properties of sensor network properties, different coverage formulations have been suggested. In addition, several constructions reachable areas and their expectations along with an outline of the explanations are described. Though 802.11 planned for organization-based systems, the Distributed Coordination Function (DCF) offered in 802.11 permits mobile networks to communicate with the channel exclusive of the base location. Several performance issues related to IEEE 802.11 are revealed. This chapter identifies the main reasons for performance losses and provides solutions for the scenarios that are specific to certain issues related to CPS.

Resumen
Mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs) make use of a distributed routing mechanism to support connectivity between nodes within the ad hoc network. A wireless ad hoc network can be deployed for multiple applications, such as extending the coverage of wire based networks, where interworking is achieved via wireless access routers. However, the implementation of a hybrid (i.e. wired and wireless) network is not straightforward and several issues must be solved for these types of deployments to become a reality. One concern is related to terminal mobility while preserving ongoing communication sessions over IP networks; as a mobile node moves from one subnetwork to a new subnetwork, a mobility protocol (e.g. Mobile IP) is required for the mobile node to preserve a communication session without having to reestablish the session with a correspondent node. This issue is more complex in a hybrid network where the wireless domain is composed of a mobile ad hoc network (MANET). For instance, MANET routing protocols usually do not account for the connectivity toward a wired network, such as the Internet, via a single or multiple access routers. As a result, there are multiple routing issues that must be taken into consideration to support interconnectivity between nodes located in a hybrid network topology. The main contribution of this work is to present a review on the state of the art of IP mobility support for hybrid wired–MANETs and discuss some of the relevant issues in this area. In addition, two case studies are presented where macromobility (e.g. Mobile IP) and micromobility (Mobile-IP – HAWAII) protocols are implemented to support IP mobility on hybrid networks.

Resumen
Data is being captured in all domains of society and one of the important aspects is transportation. Large amounts of data have been collected, which are detailed, fine-grained, and of greater coverage and help us to allow traffic and transportation to be tracked to an extent that was not possible in the past. Existing big data analytics for transportation is already yielding useful applications in the areas of traffic routing, congestion management, and scheduling. This is just the origin of the applications of big data that will ultimately make the transportation network able to be managed properly and in an efficient way. It has been observed that so many individuals are not following the traffic rules properly, especially where there are high populations, so to monitor theses types of traffic violators, this chapter proposes a work that is mainly based on big data analytics. In this chapter, the authors trace the vehicle and the data that has been collected by different devices and analyze it using some of the big data analysis methods.

Chapter 6 attempts to explain the prominence of these frames in the media coverage, based on insights from interviews with broadcasters and their sources. It proposes five factors which played a role in shaping media frames: the influence of political campaigns, professional routines relating to balance, journalists’ views of their own role in the coverage of a contested issue, broadcasters’ perceptions of what attracts audiences and what constitutes a contribution to public debate, as well as previous experience of covering election campaigns. The discussion is contextualized within broader academic literature about frame building.

Resumen
The aim of this chapter is to describe Mexican journalists' responses to constant threats and aggressions. In doing so, it draws on 93 semi-structured interviews conducted in 23 of the most violent states of the country. The results indicate that violence against news workers has a twofold set of implications for the practice of professional journalism: On the one hand, constant attacks on media staff have promoted the development of a more elaborated journalistic performance, based upon factual reporting, diversification of sources, collaborative coverage, and the creation of journalists' associations. On the other hand, however, in many cases the same situation has also inhibited reporters' and newsrooms' jobs by forcing them to self-censorship and the dependence on government official versions of sensitive issues such as crime news or corruption, amongst other passive routines. The simultaneous coexistence of both outcomes provides evidence of the operation of multiple journalisms within the Mexican media system.

Resumen
On 30 January 1972, men of the 1st Parachute Regiment of the British Army opened fire on civil rights marchers in Derry, Northern Ireland, killing 13 unarmed and innocent civilians. The event was reported worldwide and was to seen in hindsight as a significant turning point in the conflict in Northern Ireland; the moment when a struggle for civil rights gave way to a war between the IRA and the British state. Yet, as the textual analysis in this chapter shows, the official story of Bloody Sunday was based almost entirely on army lies and propaganda and on the flawed Widgery Report of 19 April 1972, which exonerated the paratroopers and their officers and cast doubt on the innocence of the victims. Newspaper coverage at the time showed a determination to recover the image and reputation of the Army in the wake of the killings. Indeed, even after the Saville Report 38 years later, which vindicated the victims and cast blame solely on the British army, sections of the British press were reluctant to let go of the official version. The explanation for this, we argue, has more to do with a deep-seated, cultural and ideological predisposition than with propaganda or the normative routines of commercial journalism.
