AbstractIn this article, I examine how the apocryphal Acts of John depicts wealthy Christian converts as part of the “Christianization” of Ephesus. I note how the Acts of John uses its portrayal of leading citizens not only to critique, but to preserve and adapt prevailing expectations surrounding Greco-Roman cultic patronage. Abstract δεκτός in Acts 10:35 may be understood as a term from the Jewish purity and consecration system. With a high degree of consistency, Hebrew רצון and רצה are rendered in cultic contexts in the LXX with words of the δεκ- lexeme. While verbs of the δεκ- lexeme are not uncommon prior to the LXX, adjectives of the δεκ-lexeme are uncommon outside of the LXX prior to the NT, establishing the use of δεκ- adjectives in the LXX as the primary context for δεκτός in Acts. This interpretation is consistent with themes of purity and consecration in the Cornelius episode and throughout Luke-Acts.

After having centered its settlements and economic fortunes on its proximity to a deep-water harbor for over a millenium, late antique Ephesus gradually shifted to an inland, fortified settlement on Ayasoluk Hill. Luke reached back into the common religious cultural context of the early Christians where he obtained his understanding of kyrios as Yahweh from the Greek Jewish Scriptures (Chapter 1). When Luke and his Jewish audience heard kyrios, they first understood it to mean Yahweh. Demons not only caused personal afflictions but were also used within wider societal debates, for example by demonizing political opponents. The sacred, the demonic, and the political were intertwined. This chapter shows how demonic presence played a part in constructing collective identity and enhancing a community’s coherence by reflecting political alliances. El concepto de Gestión Integrada de Plagas (GIP) ha surgido en los últimos años con el fin de lograr un manejo sostenible de los cultivos reduciendo, entre otras cosas, la cantidad de agroquímicos empleados y con ello el impacto medioambiental. Un elemento clave es la monitorización o inspección continua de los cultivos para asegurar la detección temprana de plagas. En este artículo se presenta una plataforma móvil terrestre capaz de inspeccionar dos tipos de escenarios: los cultivos anuales (maíz, cereales, etc) y los cultivos plurianuales (árboles frutales, viñedos, etc).
