Texto completoStudies on the reception of Laclos’ novel “Dangerous Liaisons” are numerous but they mostly focus on a small number of works and very few have a look at all the writings created under the influence of Laclos and his novel. Limited to romantic and dramatic imitations as well as to film and theatrical adaptations, this thesis analyses around forty novels, twenty plays and nine films all more or less inspired by Laclos’ novel. The first aim of this study is not to demonstrate its masterpiece status but to analyze its value and its influence through those adaptations, to examine their connections and to discern the peculiar way they comprehend it. The example of Laclos demonstrates that an author depends on the literary tradition. He was able to perfectly combine the contributions of his days and the legacy of the previous times to which his novel echoes through references and explicit or implicit allusions. In his turn, Laclos plays the role of referent in the works that came after him. His novel is probably one of the very few literary works the rich and long-time reception of which allows comprehending the evolution according to the time and the genre. Authors draw their inspiration from his novel and their works constitute an area of interpretation and new creation while Laclos owes them the recognition of his work. The second volume includes, among other things, the list of the performances of the Liaisons Dangereuses and of Quartett by Heiner Müller as well as excerpts of journalistic critics, the transcription of Charles Brabant’s film and the translation of the South Korean film Untold scandal

Texto completoThe aim of this Bachelor’s thesis is to do an analysis of the novel of Choderlos de Laclos Dangerous liaisons and to answer to four important questions: How are men and women depicted in the novel of Choderlos de Laclos and what is the nature of the relations between the characters of both sexes. Is it a condemnation or an illustration and defense of the libertinage ? Which were the moral effects of this novel upon the society of the 18th century ? What was the writer’s attitude towards women ? To answer these four important questions, we have decided to do an analysis of the novel, but also to put the focus on the sociology of literature, more exactly on the horizon of expectation and the reception of the work. We have used the correspondence between M. Choderlos de Laclos and Mrs Riccoboni in order to establish the author’s attitude towards women. In conclusion, we will demonstrate that the writer was advanced for his time and was not a misogynist as he tried to improve the education of women.

Texto completoThe thesis includes a theoretical introduction and three chapters of analysis of Laclos' novel. The introductory chapter presents problems of the literary text, insisting on the status of the author and especially on the implications of the act of reading. The analysis of the literary theories on the author, the reader, the interpretation of a text of fiction unnderlines the thories oh U. Eco and R. Barthes, who consider literary works as phenomena open to all readings and interpretations. The second chapter is devoted to the narratological analysis : narrative techniques, plural speech, competence of the fictional narrator, significance of the paratext, attitudes of the reader faced with the epistolary text. Laclos does not innovate when he chooses the epistolary form. Compared to his predecessors, he endows the letter with new functions : the letter is simultaneaously a means of action and an action, a very effective instrument of analysis and a weapon in conflictual relations. The third chapter comments on Laclos' work as a libertine novel, the inscription of the novel in the tradition libertine in the heritage of Crébillon proves that Valmont and Merteuil are rgarded as flamboyant libertines. The fourth chapter analyzes the novel of Laclos in terms of moral philosophy. The principal characters of the novel are the reflectione of two philosophical systems which consider the human nature differently. Valmont and Merteuil represent the materialist philosophy of the Encyclopedists, and in Diderot's terms, the actor, the "great man" ; Tourvel - the ideal of Rousseau's "happiness" and "natural woman". The course of the intrigue proves the adhesion of the author to Rousseau's philosophy

Texto completoThe figure of the Machiavellian couple, which appears in Shakespeare, Laclos, Barbey d’Aurevilly, Henry James, James M. Cain, among others, is studied through a three-fold approach. The first one is a structural one and aims at identifying the basic elements of the figure and its scenario. This approach confirms the existence of two matrix, one based on the couple of Macbeth and the other on the pair of libertines of Laclos’ novel Les Liaisons dangereuses. The second approach is interpretative and underlines the biblical basis of the figure of the Machiavellian couple in its Shakespearean version, which is a rewriting of the Fall of Adam and Eve while the couple of Laclos signals the deterioration of romantic relationships in a courtly meaning. The third approach deals with aesthetics and aims at studying the forms and poetics of the figure and its effect on the reader as well as its added value in relation to the “Canon figure” of the Villain. This third approach deals also with the aesthetics of Evil linked to the figure of the Machiavellian couple

Texto completoFemales of gynodioecious species need to have an advantage in order to be maintained in the populations. We found that in general, females have reproductive advantages: females produce more flowers, set more fruits and produce more seeds than hermaphrodites. We studied female advantage in the gynodioecious species Gypsophila repens. In this species females may be advantaged because they avoid inbreeding depression and pleyotropic effects of restoration that can affect hermaphrodites. In the studied population, females see not to be more limited by pollen deposition than hermaphrodites as has been found for other gynodioecious species. The studied species may be infected by a fungus that produces a partial sterilisation of the host. Partial sterilisation produced by castrating parasites is considered to be sub-optimal. For this species, the fungus could be "maladapted" as a result of a host shift between G. Repens and another related infected Caryophyllaceae. Parasites may be important in the maintenance of dimorphic reproductive systems if, for example, one sex is more attacked than the other one. We failed to show differences in infection probability between sexes on this species. Nevertheless, the fungus could contribute to female advantage in an indirect manner. In infected populations, plants are continually receiving fungal teliospores that may reduce reproduction by preventing pollen germination on the stigma. We found a reduction in the reproduction after the addition of teliospores; however, this reduction was significant only for hermaphrodites

Texto completoThe protein Api5 is known in the literature for its anti-apoptotic activity. Indeed, most cancer cells express elevated levels of Api5. More recently, Api5 has been shown to be a specific inhibitor of E2F1-dependent apoptosis, still the molecular mechanism has not been described. The transcription factor E2F1 directly regulates the temporal expression of genes whose products are required for cell cycle progression. However, it has become clear that the transcriptional activation of E2F1 can also induce apoptosis. An appropriate balance of positive and negative regulators appears to be necessary to modulate E2F1 transcriptional activity, and thus cell fate. The aim of my PhD research project was to understand the molecular mechanism and the role of Api5 in the regulation of E2F1 pro-mitotic and pro-apoptotic activities. My results shows that Api5 contributes to the expression of E2F1-target genes required for G1/S transition and cell cycle progression. Api5 silencing induces a G1 cell cycle arrest and a growth delay. In addition, Api5 seems to also regulate the expression of pro-apoptotic E2F1-target genes normally expressed during the cell cycle, without leading to apoptosis. We found that Api5 participates to E2F1 transcriptional activity by indirectly increasing E2F1 binding capacity on its target promoters. Several Api5 interaction partners have been identified and would be next, as the project continuation. Interestingly, we report that the knockout of Api5 in mice leads to early embryonic lethality, suggesting a main role of Api5 in cell division

Texto completoMyotonic Dystrophy is due to the amplification of a CTG repeat tract, and patients show both intergenerational and somatic CTG instability. The laboratory has created transgenic mice models with 20, 55 or 300 CTG, that reproduce the instability features observed in patients. This thesis was to understand through which mechanism are the expansions generated. To assay the role of DNA repair, I have bred the 300 CTG mice with mice deficient for genes from different repair pathways. The most striking results were obtained with Msh2: in its absence, trinucleotide expansion disappear, and a majority of contractions is observed. Msh2 is thus necessary for intergenerational and somatic expansions to occur. I could also demonstrate that germinal expansions are produced at the very beginning of spermatogenesis, in spermatogonia

Texto completoToday widely used by the media world, especially in sport, which uses and formats are moving towards the receiver, the term buzz paradoxically remains little studied by the transmission and also by the reception side. The buzz characterizes a reduction of length of media formats, promoting by the way an increased virality. Shorter formats are accompanied by an increase in supply, both produced by traditional broadcasters and by the users themselves, which give to the receiver an habit effect. This doctoral work shows that the sports buzz object is different from other media objects despite the importance of demographic factors in receiving messages. With this habit, the perception of sport values is smoothed and less prominent in the distribution of sports buzz. Through an empirical approach combining qualitative and quantitative methodologies, that work has enabled a semiotic characterization of different categories of sports buzz, depending on the degree of buzzability of the images. It also permit to draw a typology of receivers. This research showed that the reception of that kind of message as well as the sharing and its impact compared to the sport values don’t seem to depend on the individual data of each, but on the message content itself (celebrity, unexpected gesture, unrepeatable nature ...)

Texto completoThe Liaisons Dangereuses – “the hideous masterpiece” – was re-discovered, criticised, translated, re-written and profusely illustrated between 1880 and 1914, particularly by the Decadents and the Symbolists. How to explain the enthusiasm generated among the opponents of Naturalism for a novel held as realistic and rational? If the French and a part of the German readers considered it, for some time as a trigger for the French Revolution, the English read it as a pamphlet for sexual tolerance. Laclos's art - graduated plot, polyphony, mastered implicit, revealed interiority - aroused the interest of writers who wanted to open new vistas away from Idealism and Naturalism. Laclos also inspired the so called “feminist” novelists. Translators, while trying to preserve the subtleties of the style of the Liaisons, yet revealed their own perception of the French society, marked by refinement, and scarred by cruelty and hypocrisy. As for the latest illustrations – a compromise between publication constraints and artistic tastes – they show some revival of Allegory and the emphasis given to pectoral approaches for the transmission of a literary myth

Texto completoThis project is focused on the study of synthetic materials used by Portuguese artists in the twentieth century. The aim of the study was the molecular characterization of vinyl and acrylic polymers used since the 1960s and the study of their photodegradation and evolution over time. In modern and contemporary art, water based synthetic emulsions have been widely used as painting binding media, especially acrylic and vinyl based emulsions. In some countries like Portugal where the first aqueous emulsions used as paint binders were the poly(vinyl acetate) – PVAc – ones, both as household and artist’s paints, the study of vinyl polymers is of particular importance. In Portugal these emulsions were used by outstanding artists like Joaquim Rodrigo and Ângelo de Sousa since the 1960s. In order to guarantee the preservation of the artworks for the future generations it is essential to understand how these paints will behave upon ageing. The molecular photodegradation of PVAc was studied and the presence of degradation products on reference and model samples, as well as on dated artworks was investigated. Paintings by Joaquim Rodrigo and Ângelo de Sousa, and also a hand painted catalogue for the Sabu vinyl artists’ paints, were selected as case studies. The characterization of micro-samples from the artworks provided useful information on the real evolution of the polymer binder over time. Accelerated photodegradtion studies were performed by the exposure of PVAc films on an ageing chamber equipped with a xenon-arc lamp. The behaviour of PVAc (homopolymer) was compared with a commercial emulsion(Vulcano V7) and paint reconstructions prepared in the laboratory. The results achieved by means of infrared microspectroscopy (FTIR) point out the considerably stable nature of these binding media as no molecular evidence was obtained concerning the formation of other carbonyl functions, the disappearance of the PVAc carbonyl or the formation of hydroperoxides. The polymer photodegradation process was further studied by means of size exclusion chromatography (SEC), following the molecular weight distribution and correspondent average molecular weights. It was concluded that no side-chain reactions are taking place and that main-chain scission is the foremost degradation mechanism, although not affecting the polymer performance significantly. The influence of pigments, such as titanium dioxide and iron oxide, on the polymer’s stability was also considered and it was concluded that they do not promote degradation, which might be explained due to pigment encapsulation in inert materials inhibiting its photocatalytic behaviour. The photodegradation quantum yield was determined as 7.4 x 10-8 at 313 nm for PVAc homopolymer; therefore, degradation is quantified and comparisons may be performed for different polymers. A parallel study, according to a similar experimental approach, was undertaken on the stability of poly(methyl methacrylate) – PMMA – used as acrylic sheet by the Portuguese artist Lourdes Castro.

Texto completoGenomic instability is an enabling characteristic of cancer and a common feature of neurodegenerative diseases. In the scientific community, there is a general consensus that DNA replication stress (RS), which arises following the cell’s exposure to various exogenous and endogenous genotoxic agents, is a key driver of genomic instability.Interestingly, the genome organization and dynamics per se can also favor RS under some circumstances. Examples of genomic regions where completion of replication is particularly challenging are common fragile sites (CFS), genomic loci that tend to form breaks, gaps, or constrictions on mitotic chromosomes under RS conditions. Recently, a plethora of proteins that guard the genome from RS, which if mutated can induce genome instability have been identified. In more recent years, scientists have discovered that a key source of RS, and subsequently genomic instability, is transcription, especially if not spatially and temporally separated from replication. Fanconi Anemia (FA) is a rare inherited bone marrow failure disease characterized by congenital abnormalities and cancer predisposition, caused by mutations in any of the 22 identified FANC genes. FA is characterized by chromosome fragility and hypersensitivity to DNA interstrand-crosslinking (ICL) agents. Furthermore, the FA proteins play roles in resolving DNA damage arising during replication and transcription, and in coordinating both processes. Interestingly, breakpoints occurring in FA cells frequently overlap CFS. At CFS, FANCD2 is recruited with structure-specific endonucleases SLX4, XPF–ERCC1 and MUS81–EME1 to process replication intermediates that can lead to chromosome segregation defects. In addition, FANCD2 at CFSs limits the formation of R-loops. R-loops play key regulatory roles, but may also pose a threat to the genome when they occur in an unscheduled manner. R-loops are monitored by resolving factors such as senataxin (SETX), a RNA:DNA helicase mutated in neurodegenerative diseases. SETX is implicated in several genome maintenance pathways analogous to those regulated by FANC proteins. Prominent functions shared by SETX and FANC proteins include the coordination of replication with transcription and the repair of ICLs. In addition, SETX functions in concert with BRCA1 (FANCS) to allow faithful transcription termination, and forms nuclear foci in response to replication stress, both critical for the maintenance of the genome. Loss-of-function of SETX also causes infertility in mice (a phenotype common to FA mice and patients). Taking into account the common cellular processes that the FANC pathway and SETX participate in, we asked whether there is a functional relationship between them in the maintenance of the genome stability. I show that the absence of SETX induces spontaneous breaks on mitotic chromosomes. The regions involved in these breaks are targeted by FANCD2, which participates in resolution of under-replicated DNA during mitosis, preventing chromosome mis-segregation and allowing cells to continue proliferating. I also show that FANCD2 promotes mitotic DNA synthesis that is dependent on MUS81 and XPF. Co-depleting FANCD2 and SETX impairs cell proliferation, an effect that appears specific to transformed cells. Therefore, I uncovered a synthetic lethal interaction between SETX and FANCD2 that may be exploited in cancer therapy

Texto completoWhen in 2006, Camille de Peretti, the twenty-six-year-old young writer, decides to give a new version of an old novel, she goes far back in time : two hundred and twenty-four years ago. She opted for The Dangerous Liaisons by Choderlos de Laclos, an epistolary novel issued in 1782.The Liaisons are characterized by the ambiguity still present today of their moral teaching; and above all by the analytical accuracy with which the author is endowed when depicting evil. In addition, they are a detailed decomposition of the strategies of perversion in their efficient techniques.C. de Peretti draws, in the palimpsest, its love intrigues coupled with vengeance, as well as the erudite strategies of seduction. She takes possession of the source work to create her own. She does better : she dialogues, in this way, with the original writer. The intellectual communion is such that the writer and the rewriter would write the same work in four hands if given the opportunity [...]

Texto completoClandestinity: a word that associates secret and sedition; and threrefore implies the subversion of the common values established by a society legal frame. As this step aside from normal values, it had been embodied at the Classical Age by the libertines. However, at the XVIIIth century, the libertine isn’t anymore the philosopher or the satirical and licencious poet he had been in the XVIIth century : by this time, he becomes a novel character. But what is exactly a libertin novel, at the XVIIIth century ? Two writters of the time provided answers of a very different kind: Laclos in Les Liaisons dangereuses and Sade in a novel like Histoire de Juliette. Consisting in an interpretation of the “libertinage romanesque”, their novels essentialy dwel on one very matter: clandestinity. How such a theme could provide fundamental clues to the undestanding of the significations that both authors have given to the libertinage of the XVIIIth century ? A question that implies that the study of their books should focus on the libertine intertextual schemes that nourish their imaginaire. Which means questionning the sense they’ve given to this association: clandestinity and libertinage

Texto completoThe critics were aware of the different resources offered by the metaphorical and allegorical epistolary novel "Les Liaisons dangereuses" of Laclos and the memory novel "Le Paysan parvenu" of Marivaux.Through these figures, we discover how the rigorous psychological analysis and the satire of the social relationships develop more generally the two novels. By choosing this type of fictional autobiography, Marivaux tries to have the means of playing on the duality of the character-narrator. The metaphors refer to the "natural" where a character without experience, confronted by the hypocrisy of the world in which he plays his sentimental education and his social cast as a peasant. But it seems that Laclos, in "Les Liaisons dangereuses", methodically used the metaphor of a warrior to incorporate with the epistolary style of the novel. The metaphor of a warrior, which is inscribed in the traditional literary, plays essentially a major role in producing the libertinism in Les Liaisons

Texto completo“I don’t see why a girl like Nanette should be blamed for profiting from the madness and extreme disorderly conduct of your libertines, in order to set the highest price to her person and her art,” Wieland’s Leontion says to herself. This “extreme disorderly conduct” is only one of the characteristics of that kind of carefree existence which is an expression of the triumph of libertine mores at a time when the fascination of European societies for libertinism, whether real or imaginary, is reflected in English, French and German Literature. The following thesis thus demonstrates the diversity of libertine literature in Europe in the second half of the XVIIIth century. In order to analyse this diversity and compare its different aspects, I have chosen three epistolary novels that I consider to be paradigms in the matter: Clarissa Harlowe by Richardson in England, Les Liaisons dangereuses by Laclos in France and Menander und Glycerion by Wieland in Germany. The implicit or explicit judgement that these three authors pass on the laws of social order, on religion, and on the mores of the period is emblematic of an original vision of the world. Although this vision is expressed within the limits of works of fiction, the study of these works highlights a number of elements that are specific to the social and political atmosphere of the time, as well as certain autobiographical elements which have contributed to the social paradigm of feminine and masculine libertinism to which they subscribe. The purpose of this thesis is to study these literary works as rich sources of information on the libertines and their conduct as an accepted social model for men and women alike, and to discuss the complexity and singular nature of this phenomenon by a differential treatment of the various themes through which it can be identified

Texto completoAfter many studies about the narratee, and particularly those of g. Genette and g. Prince, an extended and methodical investigation of this concept is nowadays possible only at the crossroads of discourse analysis and narratology. Especially when the corpus is epistolary novel and the purpose of the study is to determine the more or less obvious influences of the narratee on the writing process of the fictionnal letter. Defined as a discursive instanciation of a whitness implied by the writing process, the narratee is the source of countless tensions hidden in the epistolary discourse. Attempting to describe this figure originating in the uneasy relation between "i" and an absent "you" amounts to tracing in discourse many communication strategies which inform the deep movement of letter writing, affecting more or less intensly the enunciative dynamic. Under the apparent textual stability and beyond fixed thematic structures, the moving pattern of the pragmatic ordering of epistolary discourse is revealed. These first observations pave the way for a poetic of the narratee and, through a contrasted analysis of les "liaisons dangereuses" and "le paysan perverti", lead to a description of two narrative concepts of the letter narration. They also provide a possibility for a larger poetic study of epistolary novel

This work aims at presenting the results of our research on point of view and the creation of meanings in the novel Dangerous liaisons, by Choderlos de Laclos, and in two of its film adaptations: Dangerous liaisons 1960 (1959), by Roger Vadim, and Dangerous liaisons (1988), by Stephen Frears. Throughout the work, we try to carry out a comparative analysis between the source text and its two hypertexts, focusing on the question of narrative perspective and the meanings this category produces. We started with a discussion of film adaptation of literary works, so as to confirm that the question of fidelity has long been overcome, having been replaced by a rather more coherent and necessary debate that concerning the sociology of adaptation, that is, the context in which the adaptations are materialized. From this point we try to present a concept and a classification of point of view that enabled us to analyze the selected narratives. The constructed theoretical support was used in the investigation of both the novel by Laclos and the adaptations by Vadim and Frears. Our initial hypothesis is that point of view is the most responsible element, in each work, for the elaboration of different meanings of evil. Taking into account the considerable relevance of narratives in our everyday life, we understand the fundamental role of critical analysis of values conveyed by such stories, from which derives the significance of our research. We hope the research transcends the proposed analysis so as also to contribute with further critical readings of narratives that inhabit our everyday life.

Texto completoThis dissertation is a study of the influence of “gallant” libertine literature from England and France on German literary creation in the last three decades of the 18th century. The number of translations and critical commentaries which appeared at the time testifies to the successful impact in Germany of four novels of seduction, the very emblems of the genre, namely Clarissa Harlowe, Les Égarements du coeur et de l’esprit, Le Paysan perverti and Les Liaisons dangereuses. It is therefore legitimate to search for echoes of those works in the German production of the late 18th century. The survey of scientific evidence of the attention paid to those novels (openly acknowledged influence, critical comments or explicit marks of intertextuality) results in the selection of six German writers, also enthusiastic readers of the books, whose works display a reflection of the tradition of “gallant” libertine literature, viz. Christoph Martin Wieland, Sophie von La Roche, Wilhelm Heinse, Ludwig Tieck, Clemens Brentano and Jean Paul. The confrontation between the German novels and the “sources” reveals the presence of the main motifs of “gallant” libertine literature: typology of characters, strategy of seduction and key phases in the plot. Yet it is inseparable from a systematic use of distortion. The parody of a series of narrative techniques and the recourse to “perverted imitation” bear witness to a process of distanciation in which both the originality of the literary heirs and the specifically German sensibility of a fast expanding literature assert themselves. By giving new directions to certain fundamental principles of the libertine quest, the latest German works in the corpus alter the initial libertine doctrine and pave the way for new areas of existential questions, thus foreshadowing the disillusioned artistic figures of the 19th century

As an officer, in year 1782 Laclos published an epistolary novel "Dangerous Liaisons", which scandalized the French society. In the book, Marchioness Merteuil and Viscount Valmont, the two libertines, are excellent at exercising the means of deception and seduction. With the influence of the new sciences in the Age of Reason, they manipulate the noble society and take advantage of conspiracy and strategy to win the love of victims and then dishonour their reputations. However, their alliance relationship collapses because of the appearance of Madame Tourvel. Valmont to Tourvel is love ? Marchioness Merteuil to Viscount Valmont is jealousy ? When reason is replaced with the impulse of emotions, who owns the greatest power and is the last winner? In the text of the novel, love conflicts with hatred and rancour ; the reason of libertines challenges against the sentiment of the victims ; the omniscience of libertines competes against the ignorance of the victims; the goodness struggles with the evil in a man''s soul. These diverse powers construct the novel and also the world outside the fictional world ─ the Real world. Omniscience is the best means to gain the power and to be the Almighty ? As we can learn from the novel, the unpredictability of man''s heart and the alteration from man’s feelings make the term "Omniscience" more ambiguous and the story open to the changes. Thus, besides the character psychoanalysis, the roles'' personalities and the epistolary form of the text, this thesis is mainly to discuss the Game of Power in characters and those symbolic powers behind them. At first, we can see the struggle of the two powers from the libertines and victims and then the deep relationship of information and power. After discussing the libertine''s weapons, we zoom out the focus and analyze the hierarchy of power ─ the power between characters, the power between the author and characters, the power between readers and characters and the power between readers and the author. The Outline of this dissertation : Part One. The relations of Power : Love vs. Hatred and Vice vs. Virtue 1. Interest: from disequilibrium to separation (Valmont vs. Merteuil) 2. Love in spite of Vice and Virtue (Valmont vs. Tourvel) 3. The invisible battle field (Merteuil vs. Tourvel) Part Two: the weapon of libertines 1. Deception 2. Seduction Part Three: Omniscience as the origin of power 1. The pursue of the power of God: the force of information 2. The power of author and readers

This creation essay is mainly focus on the costume design and construction of TNUA T305 Black Box Theater production, Dangerous Liaisons (2018 April 13-15). In order to present the special point of view of the director’s, this production adapts the whole story into 3 different time and space settings, which are: 18 century Paris France, 1920s New York USA, and 2018 Taipei Taiwan. The costume designer tries to de-construct and then re-construct the 3 different periods costume elements and their visual vocabularies to give this play a new vision. The ultimate goal is to work with the directing and acting departments to show the unchangeable humanity and psychology of the long human history, and the double-relationship of the pretend & disguise of the characters.

Spirits indicate every centry in history such as some special styles indicate each literature's characteristic. "Dangerous Liaison" written by Laclos is a book consitute from letters. By communicating in letters between the personal. In this book, readers can receive their feelings in adirectly and his book, readers can receive their feelings in a directly and clearly way. Because it reflect the fact in that society and the fact of the women's position in 18th centry, it was disallowed to publish. But they can't submerge the author's sentimental style abd limpid analysis. The book didn't cause the public's attration and research until 20th centry. After reading this article,I was attracted by Madame Merteuil. Although she write less letters in the book, she shows more diversity. In a male-dominantsociety, she tries to break through the tradition thought to women. In order to stand in that society, she has to lie and cheat. She uses inveracity to fight with the injustice between male and female. And she has to depend on a strong self-control process to endure the difference between verity and the affection. This disquisition follow the develope of "self-control ". There are three parts in this disquisition. Analysing Madame Merteuil's speach is the topic of the first part. According to the way she wrote to different people, readers can realize her diversity personality and her duplicity. By solving Madame Merteuil using the power of " words" , readers can understand the way she deceive and control people. In the second part, this article analys Madame Merteuil's personal charactor. In that kind of society, Madame Merteuil das learned deceiving andperjury. This part shows the difference between herself and the way she shows. The third part expand to the power interactions between Madame Merteuil andother senor. And realizing how she uses the human networks to contravene themale power position and then affirm herself.

Texto completoAs an emigration country for decades, Poland has been receiving more and more immigrants during the past ten years and is transforming into a country of immigration. On the one hand, it seems that the country needs labour migration; on the other hand it refuses to adopt migration policies regulating the status of temporary migrants and permanent immigrants. However, most of its western neighbours have developed migration systems in order to meet the economic, social, political and identity challenges resulting from globalized migration movements, economic aspirations and humanitarian crises. We note that despite the occurrence of similar problems related to migration in Eastern Europe, so far only the Czech Republic has adopted a genuine migration system, including an integration programme for permanent immigrants. What prevents Poland from adopting formal measures to cope with the growing influx of immigrants? To understand this situation we compare Poland to the Czech Republic - two similar countries with different positions towards migration systems. The academic literature puts forward three factors explaining the adoption (or not) of migration systems by States: economic, socio-political and identity. We analyze these three elements in the two selected cases and hypothesize that it is the factor of national identity which slowed the development of a migration system in Poland. Indeed, our research shows that the economic and socio-political factors are similar in both the Czech Republic and Poland, while the identity factor marks the difference. Although Poland has joined the EU and has enjoyed economic progress over the past twenty years, it seems that national identity and the political project of preserving the nation-state are obstacles to the development of an open migration system focused on the reception of permanent immigrants. The importance of the identity factor for migration policies is shown through analysis of the academic literature, surveys of public opinion and parliamentary transcripts, as well as four semi-structured interviews that we conducted with representatives of the Polish government and non-governmental organizations.
