Resumen
AbstractA menu-driven IBM-PC/MS-DOS software system for quantitative XRF analysis was designed combining elements of pattern recognition (spectral “fingerprinting”) with mathematical correction models. The following topics are covered:-pattern recognition method; N - dimension representation-local empirical Lachance-Traill or Lucas-Tooth & Price models-EGA/VGA intelligent driver for a calibration display-dSASE III Plus “data files - accessed from dBXL/Quicksifver”, dBASE III Plus or from compiled BASIC equipped with “call subroutines”-Examples of applications (stainless steels and ceramics). In this approach, experimental alphas are computed utilizing the closest automatically preselected standards from available data files. Alpha values generated in this fashion we term “local alphas”. An intelligent software program is employed which automatically recognizes the resolution of tiie CRT display and delivers the best possible display for the available equipment. This new design also permits the utilization of dBXL/Quicksitver, dBASE III Plus or compiled BASIC resources for additional on site system customization programming. A dBASE III Plus file format is used for XRF data storage. This permits fast data exchange with a local ASCII database and also with all popular spreadsheet formats. Additionally, there are utility subroutines available which allow direct and rapid manipuiation of dBASE III Plus files in compiled BASIC. Application of this software system and graphics to stainless steels and engineered ceramic materials are demonstrated. RIGAKU Smax/PDP-11/73 and TRACOR X-RAY SPECTRACE 5000/Compaq 386 spectrometers are used in these studies.

Resumen
Diagnoses of injuries as a result of trauma are commonly coded by means of the International Classification of Diseases (9th rev.) Clinical Modification (ICD-9CM). The Abbreviated Injury Scale (AIS) is frequently employed to assess the severity of injury per body region. The Injury Severity Score (ISS) is an over-all index or summary of the severity of injury. To compute one of these two types of scores the entire medical record of each patient must be examined. The program ICDTOAIS replaces the manual coding or translation between the two scores. The program converts the ICD-9CM coded diagnoses into AIS and ISS scores. The program also computes the maximum AIS (MAXAIS) per body region, enabling the researcher to assess the relative impact of the severity of trauma of different body regions in both morbidity and mortality studies. The program locates invalid ICD-9CM rubrics in the data file. ICDTOAIS may be employed as a program alone or as a procedure in database management systems (e.g., DBase III plus, DBase IV, or the different versions of FOXPRO). The program is written in Turbo Pascal, Version 6.

Resumen
OBJECTIVE: The purpose of our survey was to ascertain the activities of the independent drug information centers (DICs) in Europe and to contact the person in charge of these services to establish a European network of DICs in the future. DATA SOURCES: The survey was conducted in 32 European countries. We contacted 2026 people in DICs and official healthcare organizations by mail. On request, we returned our questionnaire including 167 closed questions on the means and activities of a DIC. Data were collected and analyzed on a personal computer using dBASE III PLUS (Ashton-Tate). RESULTS: Of the 110 questionnaires received, 88 answered the question pertaining to the number of queries asked of the DIC per year and were analyzed (1 from West Germany, Denmark, Finland, Sweden, Portugal, Poland; 2 from Italy; 3 from Switzerland; 6 from Spain; 8 from The Netherlands; 16 from France; and 47 from the United Kingdom). We recorded data on their location, their means (e.g., staff, information), their users (e.g., health professionals), and activities. CONCLUSIONS: The DICs were located in healthcare structures, managed by pharmacists or physicians, and open to other health professionals. Only the United Kingdom maintains a national organized network. Most of the participants showed interest in cooperating with each other to establish a list of the centers, guidelines on good information practices, a database, and a European network.

Resumen
This study aims to improve the design of scour protection around offshore wind turbine monopiles, as well as future-proofing them against the impacts of climate change. A series of large-scale experiments have been performed in the context of the European HYDRALAB-PLUS PROTEUS (Protection of offshore wind turbine monopiles against scouring) project in the Fast Flow Facility in HR Wallingford. These experiments make use of state of the art optical and acoustic measurement techniques to assess the damage of scour protections under the combined action of waves and currents. These novel PROTEUS tests focus on the study of the grading of the scour protection material as a stabilizing parameter, which has never been done under the combined action of waves and currents at a large scale. Scale effects are reduced and, thus, design risks are minimized. Moreover, the generated data will support the development of future scour protection designs and the validation of numerical models used by researchers worldwide. The testing program objectives are: (i) to compare the performance of single-layer wide-graded material used against scouring with current design practices; (ii) to verify the stability of the scour protection designs under extreme flow conditions; (iii) to provide a benchmark dataset for scour protection stability at large scale; and (iv) to investigate the scale effects on scour protection stability.

Resumen
e16558 Background: A ploidy of an average grade of aneuploidy cells and of proliferation index in ovarian tumor was studied. Methods: 21 patients with ovarian cancer of III-IV grades and 12 patients with acknowledged relapse of the disease aged from 46 to 67 to part in the research. We used CycleTEST PLUS DNA Reagent Kit (Becton Dickinson) for the analysis of DNA in the tumor’s tissues. Preparation of the tumor’s tissues was made with the use of disaggregating device BD Medimachine; after painting with propidium iodide (PI) we analyzed at flow cytofluorimeter BD Facs CantooII. Received data was processed with the help of computer program ModFit LT, allowing to analyze the ploidy and distribution of tumor’s cells according to phases of cellular cycle. Results: There was revealed the 2.5 times predominance of aneuploidy tumors over diploid in case of the relapse of the disease. The DNA index, different from 1.0, was registered in 83.3%, whereas there was noticed 33.3% primary ovarian tumors with aneuploidy content of DNA with predominance of diploidy tumors. There was noticed a tendency to the increase of aneuploidy cells during the relapse of the disease, where they made up 42.7±1.8%, whereas in primary ovarian tumors the share of aneuploidy cells was 40.4±1.6%. The index of proliferation of relapsing tumors was 1.8 times higher than this index of primary tumors, and made up 35.5±2.9 and 26.7±2.1 (p < 0.05). Conclusions: During the relapse of a tumor there is a predominance of aneuploidy tumors over diploid, the index of proliferation is higher in comparison with primary tumors.

Resumen
University of Central Florida College of Engineering Thesis
A computerized flow process charting application program of dBase III+ has been developed to aid in resource requirements planning and operations analysis. Traditional flow process charting has used as the following data elements: assembly number, assembly sequence number, distance travelled, time required for the activity and an activity symbol. The computerized system adds several variables to these in order to customize the application at Martin Marietta Electronic Systems. These additional variables include work center identification, machine number identification, lot sizes, set up and run times and manufacturing specifications. Additionally, the circle or operations symbol has been expanded to differentiate between manual, process and test activities. Resources requirements planning and analysis is accomplished by a series of reports where a user defines search requirements and enters three independent equation variables for the calculations. The three variables are realization factor or safety factor, resource availability in hours per month and monthly production demand. The resource requirements can be used in methods engineering, make-buy decisions and resource planning. Sensitivity analyses can be easily accomplished by changing the input variables and/or data.

Resumen
The problem expounded by this study was the development of a reliable methodology for processing and maintaining historical records on students’ evaluations of instructors and courses. Two additional factors were critical to the study. First, to give the study the merits of students’ evaluations of instructors. Second, as an outcome of the study, a project was designed and developed that would satisfy the problem. The final project, a computerized system written in a commercial programming language by Ashton-Tate called DBASE III Plus, was developed and named “ICES”—an acronym standing for Instructor/Course Evaluation System. The data base structure and language of dBASE available to users, many books are available on the into additional projects is one of the easiest on the market. Equally important, research of universities in the United States regarding software.
