Resumen
SummaryThe degree of isolation was assessed in two contrasting regions in Northern Palencia, Spain, one mountainous with small villages in the valleys (Pernia), the other lower and more open (Ojeda), with corresponding differences in economy. Using data from the parish and diocesan records, the frequencies of consanguineous marriages were calculated from the dispensation data, and the evolution of inbreeding compared. The more isolated region shows a greater degree of inbreeding, though not as high as in some other parts of Spain. Both regions show a decline in inbreeding with time, though in neither did the results indicate that geographic isolation was very outstanding. The most frequent types of consanguineous unions occur between second cousins.

This thesis is the first monographic investigation of the Bishop of Puebla, Manuel Fernández de Santa Cruz and Sahagún (Born Palencia 1637- Died Puebla de los Ángeles 1699). He is the key person for understanding the highest literary moments in the culture of New Spain, because around the presence of the bishop important figures like Sister Juana Inés de la Cruz (1648-1695) were supported and encouraged . In the shadow of the great poetess there were many studies circulating about Fernández de Santa Cruz which merit a deep reflection given his relevance. Our work tries to bring to light aspects not dealt with before through an analysis of his hagiography Dechado de príncipes eclesiásticos (first edition in Puebla, 1716) and the funeral sermon written for the funeral rites (1699) by the famous New Spanish author, José Gómez de la Parra. One of the principal directions that we follow in this work is to search for possible philosophical roots that illuminate the perspective of Dechado de príncipes and the sermon as a probable albeit unorthodox message in these works.

Carl, Carolina. "The coming-of-age of a northern Iberian frontier bishopric : Calahorra, 1045-1190". Thesis, University of St Andrews, 2005. http://hdl.handle.net/10023/13616.

Resumen
The northern Iberian Bishopric of Calahorra was re-founded in 1045 by Garcia 111 of Navarre. Between that date and the death of its eighth post-restoration bishop in 1190 all or part of its diocesan territory changed hands seven times between the Kingdoms of Navarre, Leon-Castile/Castile, and Aragon, as they competed over the riojan frontier- zone on which it was located. The position of the diocese on such a volatile secular frontier had consistently profound, but also steadily changing, effects on its political and institutional development. In the initial phase of Calahorra's restoration, its bishop was enormously empowered by his central role in the consolidation of Navarre's southern and western frontiers, but was held back from establishing a centralized diocesan administration by the insecurities inherent in the borderland condition of his see. Following a change of political regime in the Rioja in 1076, the bishopric suffered the severe consequences of its total identification with a defeated secular power when its embryonic diocesan structures were comprehensively dismantled and its bishops subjected to a dominant and hostile crown that effectively undermined their diocesan authority. The debilitation of royal authority in the Rioja and the region's political marginalization between 1109 and 1134 provided the context for the emergence of the see's independent political stance and its notably autonomous and rapid development of a strong cathedral. When Leonese-Castilian regional dominance was forcefully reasserted between 1134 and 1157, the Bishops of Calahorra were able to put the forceful currents of canonical reform that emanated from an increasingly comprehensive and emphatically territorial secular ecclesiastical hierarchy to use in combining their centrality to the north-eastern border politics of the Crown of Leon-Castile with the independent pursuit of a specifically diocesan agenda. When Castile ceased serving Calahorra's territorial interests towards the end of the twelfth century, the see used the political leverage it gained by its inclusion in the Aragonese Metropolitanate of Tarragona to distance itself from Castilian politics, thus revealing its maturity as a frontier power in its own right.

Resumen
This chapter analyses the alliance between political power and the ecclesiastical hierarchy of Toledo during the reign of Theudis (531–548), within the general context of the settlement of the Visigoths in the Meseta (‘Plateau’) of the Iberian Peninsula. The consequences that this collaboration had on the promotion of Toledo from a simple diocese to the metropolitan see of the Carthaginiensis province, and subsequently primacy of Spain, are seen through the specific case of the creation of the diocese of Segovia.

Resumen
Chapter six explores Ocopa’s history during the last three and a half decades of Spanish colonial rule in Peru. This period is the apogee of Ocopa’s missionary enterprise under the control of the Aragonese faction. These new leaders fervently began to incorporate many of the economic and political principles behind the Bourbon reforms in their evangelization efforts. This new emphasis was in part an outcome of the new leaders’ philosophical beliefs, but was also implemented to please Crown officials, who exercised more and more authority over the College. The new propaganda worked, and Ocopa was granted its largest concession from the Crown to date, almost complete pastoral control over the newly created diocese of Maynas. Their success, however, was hollow, as miscommunication and incompetence in the Spanish bureaucracy led to confusion and dissension in the diocese. The French invasion of Spain and the wars of independence ultimately sealed Ocopa’s fate.

Resumen
In the seventeenth century, Spanish antiquarians collected inscriptions, coins, and other evidence of their community’s illustrious Christian origins, conflictive medieval past, and glorious present. Efforts to compile a suitable local history were particularly determined and prolific in the Andalusian diocese of Jaén, where two local enthusiasts of the past – Francisco de Rus Puerta and Martín Ximena Jurado – generated a voluminous body of manuscripts and printed books under the sponsorship of Jaén’s bishop. Like their counterparts elsewhere in Europe, Jaén’s antiquaries documented the past in both text and image, as the authors sketched coins, ruins in situ, and ongoing excavations for antiquities and saints’ relics. In these efforts, Greco-Roman antiquity played the handmaiden to the early Christian era, for it was of intense concern for Andalusian Catholics to prove that the Islamic invasion had not disrupted the region’s deep and essential Christian identity. In this way, ‘antiquity’ was a rather motley-coloured creature, encompassing not only the remains of Roman Hispania, but also including pre-Roman antiquities from Spain’s early Greek, Phoenician, and Celtiberian peoples, as well as Visigothic and some Islamic artefacts.

Resumen
This paper briefly shows the skills acquired not only in the field of Conservation-Restoration, but also in Virtual Restoration as applied to Cultrual Heritage. The work under consideration is the Mayor Altarpiece of the old Convent of San Francsico, today Church of San Esteban Protomartir in San Esteban de Gormaz, Soria. Built in 1628 in one of the most important workshops of the Diocese, in 1985 renovation works and refurbishment of the church had uncovered wall paintings in advocation to the founder of the Order behind the wooden reredos, one of the few examples of pictorial altarpieces preserved in Spain that forced the transfer of the wooden altarpiece to a shrine in the same locality where it is currently disassembled. This Cultural Property is a great example of heritage on which to apply the techniques of 3D modeling for virtual restoration and reconstruction of the environment as well, which aims to attempt visual recovery and potential unit without counyerfeiting, as methods of conservation, restoration and dissemination of Cultural Heritage.

Francisco Cebrián¹, Irene Sánchez¹¹Department of Geography and Land Management. University of Castilla- La Mancha. Edificio Benjamín Palencia, s/n. 2071 Albacete (Spain) E-mail: francisco.cebrian@uclm.es, irene.ondono@gmail.comKeywords (3-5): average city, urban sprawl, expansive urbanism, inner cities, Castilla-La ManchaConference topics and scale: Stages in territorial configurationThe processes of urban sprawl have increased since the end of the century. They have occurred in a context of economic prosperity, in which part of the capital surplus has been directed towards the construction industry, and especially towards the dwellings. The dynamic has been reproduced in the different scales of the urban hierarchy. Much of the new urban developments and constructions have been directed to the peripheral areas. Urban sprawl has increased in the environment of big cities, but also around medium-sized cities. This reality is manifested differently, depending on the case, but it has also left some general processes. In this essay attention has been centered on the changes in the housing in the peripheries of the Spanish medium-sized cities. The changes between 1991 and 2011 in a radius of 30 around the cities selected have been analyzed in order to identify the scope of urban sprawl, the temporary differences in the process and the most common collected ones. As an object of analysis seven inner and remote cities of Castilla- La Mancha have been used. We can observe a priori differentiating processes, and others that respond to logics associated to the influence of the polynuclear metropolitan area of Madrid.
