AbstractThe evolution processes and forcing mechanisms of the Horqin dunefield in northern China are poorly understood. In this study, systematic OSL dating of multiple sites is used together with pollen analysis of a representative section in order to reconstruct the evolution of the dunefield since the Last Glacial Maximum (LGM). Our results show that there was extensive dune mobilization 25–10 ka, transition to stabilization 10–8 ka, considerable dune stabilization 8–3 ka, and multiple episodes of stabilization and mobilization after 3 ka. The association of several favorable factors (high supply of fine sand to the beach, appropriate wind regime, lowland topography) has resulted in the development of a wide transgressive dunefield that stands out as a fundamental element in the coastal landscape of Rio Grande do Sul, southern Brazil. Many prograded barriers and some dunefields in theworld have been termed 'beach ridge' plains, but the actual genesis of the 'ridges' is often unknown. Use of the terms, berms, beach ridges and foredunes is also confusing in the literature because their definitions are highly variable and are commonly used interchangeably. An analysis of the spatial patterning present in the arrangement of material and features at the site of Dunefield Midden, is presented in this thesis. All items from the site are analysed, except the remains of large fauna. The site of Dunefield Midden is situated about two kilometres north of Eland's Bay on the Cape West coast, South Africa. Radiocarbon dates indicate that the site was occupied about 670 years B.P. The nature of the food remains and artefacts from this site suggests a single occupation, for a limited period, by a group of hunter-gatherers. Features from the site examined in

Idades por luminescência opticamente estimulada foram obtidas nos depósitos eólicos do litoral leste maranhense. As datações permitiram reconhecer ao menos quatro gerações de dunas eólicas, incluindo a atual. As duas gerações mais antigas (G1/G0: idades LOE de 258,9±24,6 a 88,0±8,6 ka A.P.) não são distinguíveis por critérios de campo, somente por dados geocronológicos.
