Resumen
Ecomorphological patterns of the fish assemblage from the upper Paraná River floodplain, Brazil, were described and evaluated according to trophic (guilds), spatial (habitats) and phylogenetic (taxonomic distances) structures. The samples were obtained through the Long Term Research Project (LTER-CNPq/UEM/NUPELIA) in August and October 2001. Thirty-five species were analyzed from thirty-one morphological variables. Strong significant correlations (Mantel test) between morphology and trophic guilds and between morphology and taxonomy were found, while morphology and habitat revealed a weak corr

The present study investigated ecomorphological patterns of fish assemblage from freshwater ponds on two functional categories, i.e., foraging behavior and habitat preference. Nine ecomorphological indices were derived from eight morphometric variables and examined on 566 adult individuals belonging to 9 species, 7 families and 4 orders. Samples were collected during April 2016 to September 2017 from freshwater ponds in Birbhum, West Bengal. Mantel test was performed to investigate correlation between morphological, taxonomic, trophic and habitat guild matrices. The partial Mantel test was don

The present study was based on the identification of the ecomorphological patterns that characterize the fish species found in tide pools in the Amazonian Coastal Zone (ACZ) in the Pará State, Brazil. Representatives of 19 species were collected during two field campaigns in 2011. The dominance, residence status, and trophic guild of each species were established, and morphometric data were obtained for up to 10 specimens of each species. A total of 23 ecomorphological attributes related to locomotion, position in the water column, and foraging behavior were calculated for the analysis of ecom

This study investigates whether terrestrial mammalian carnivore guilds of ancient South America, which developed in relative isolation, were similar to those of other continents. We do so through analyses of clade diversification, ecomorphology and guild structure in the Sparassodonta, metatherians that were the predominant mammalian carnivores of pre-Pleistocene South America. Body mass and 16 characters of the dentition are used to quantify morphological diversity (disparity) in sparassodonts and to compare them to extant marsupial and placental carnivores and extinct North American carnivor

Resumen
The genus Boophis is a species-rich group of treefrogs within the family Mantellidae Laurent, endemic to Madagascar. The larval morphology of these frogs is an important trait to understand the evolution of reproductive modes and larval morphologies in the mantellid radiation and can provide important information to compare adaptations of tadpoles and adults, and elucidate possible covariation, and convergent evolution of these traits. We here assign seven previously unknown or insufficiently described Boophis tadpoles to species via DNA barcoding, and provide detailed morphological descriptio

The aim of the present study was to evaluate factors that may favor the coexistence of three endemic species of Astyanax (Astyanax bifasciatus,Astyanax minor and Astyanax gymnodontus) in Segredo Reservoir (Iguaçu River, Paraná State, Brazil), and to test the hypothesis that these species share food resources, being the dietary variations related to morphological characteristics. Fish were collected at three samplings sites in 1993 and 1994, during the first year after the filling phase of the reservoir. The diet was assessed using stomach content analysis and ecomorphology by ecomorphological

Resumen
We describe the ecomorphology of an assemblage of bird species found in riparian forests of the Middle Paraná River, Argentina. We sought to determine (1) the more important morphological characteristics that separate coexisting species, (2) whether such separation was related to the trophic ecology of each species and (3) whether a priori guilds showed morphological similarity. We tested the hypotheses that (a) a species’ morphology is related to the trophic ecology of that species and (b) that species of a priori guilds are morphometrically more similar to each other than to species of diffe

Resumen
The present study analysed the relationship between morphology and trophic structure of Siluriformes (Pisces, Osteichthyes) from the Caracu Stream (22º 45' S and 53º 15' W), a tributary of the Paraná River (Brazil). Sampling was carried out at three sites using electrofishing, and two species of Loricariidae and four of Heptapteridae were obtained. A cluster analysis revealed the presence of three trophic guilds (detritivores, insectivores and omnivores). Principal components analysis demonstrated the segregation of two ecomorphotypes: at one extreme there were the detritivores (Loricariidae)

The córrego Paulicéia is a direct tributary of the rio Mogi-Guaçu, located in Santa Rita do Passa Quatro, State of São Paulo, Southeastern Brazil. This stream runs inside a savannah-like (cerrado) environment and it associated vegetation. Biological and ecomorphological aspects of its fish community were studied in three stretches of the stream, denominated herein as the upper, middle and lower courses. The fish fauna recorded in this study consisted of 15 species, belonging to five orders and nine families, based in a total of 715 collected individuals representing 1,450 kg of biomass. The mo

Resumen
To test the applicability of anuran tadpole functional ecology with regards to diet as a tool to determine ecosystem function of aquatic habitats, all the presently known as southern Africa anuran species’ tadpoles were assigned to ecomorphological guilds. The data set included 106 anuran tadpole species and 84 variables, which include: 23 habitat; 49 morphological; 9 behavioral; and 3 development (time metamorphosis) related variables. Although the data set for the guild delineation did not include genetic data, a phylogeny (evolutionary approach) was used to obtain a tree where species are
