The current development of Ukrainian higher education institutions is characterized by the growth of their aspirations and opportunities to increase their own budgets by finding new sources and funding tools. In the context of the study of sources of additional funding, the peculiarities of the use of fundraising have been studied. Based on the analysis of statistical data, it is concluded that the main sources of raising funds in the world are business companies, foundations and individual donors. Factors influencing the motivation in fundraising for business entities, individuals, and authorities have been identified. It has been found that the population makes up the majority of fundraising donors in most countries. As a result of the reform of funding models for foreign universities, private capital flows are becoming relevant, which contribute to the introduction of a fundraising tool in the field of education. The article analyzes the experience of implementing fundraising in public institutions on the example of American and European universities. It is established that intensifying the actions of foreign governments to support fundraising activities in higher education plays a key role in promoting fundraising for universities through the introduction of tax benefits, tax incentives for fundraising, providing the necessary prerequisites for successful fundraising and more. The characteristics of fundraising measures and directions of financing at the expense of attracted funds are generalized. The main steps and difficulties of introduction of fundraising by higher education institutions in Ukraine are considered, its functions, the basic normative-legal maintenance of fundraising in educational and scientific spheres are analyzed. The need to implement fundraising as a tool in the strategy of financing higher education institutions, to develop a structure for raising funds and the purposes of their use. It is established priority areas for the use of funds raised as a result of fundraising in the field of education in Ukraine have been identified. The essence of fundraising in the field of higher education on the basis of the mechanism of endowment funds, which provides for the mobilization of financial resources for the development of higher education institutions, is investigeted. It is established that under the condition of symbiosis of cooperation between universities and the government, the development of fundraising will contribute to the implementation of state economic policy in the field of education.

The subject of the study is fundraising and grant writing technologies. The purpose of the study is to characterize the status of international grant financing of science in Ukraine in the context of fundraising and grant writing technologies. Methods of the study: generalization, analysis and synthesis, descriptive, statistical. Results and conclusions of work. The article analyzes the distribution of total expenditures for scientific and research work conducting by Ukrainian researchers based on funding sources. At the same time, a tendency was observed regarding the growth of the amount of financing the scientific and research works at the expense of foreign sources, i.e. grants. The emphasis was placed on the active participation of scientists in the implementation of various international project proposals in the context of significant underfinancing of domestic science. The following technologies and mechanisms for drawing up grant applications, search of international donors, qualitative accompaniment of scientific projects such as project management, fundraising, grant writing, crowdfunding are described. It has been established that grant funding can also be provided within the framework of international technical assistance. It is proved that Ukraine's attraction to the global «grant space» through special financial mechanisms of fundraising and grant writing will contribute to the increase of extrabudgetary revenues to finance research and improvement of material and technical support of certain institutions and organizations, as well as to develop scientific potential, more rational organization of scientific and research achievements, developed system of commercialization of scientific results. In particular, the focus is on the principles of fundraising and grant writing, requirements for professional fundraisers (fundraising managers), grant writers, their qualifications and personalities. We offer peculiarities of training specialists in fundraising and granting through the system of special courses, trainings, seminars, educational institutions, methodologies and educational literature. It is found out that such measures do not guarantee the comprehensiveness and resolution of issues related to high-quality specialists training, as technologies permitted in Ukraine nowadays not in full measure provide an effective public assistance tool due to lack of researches and developments in this area. One of the prospects for fundraising and grant writing development in Ukraine is the need to organize the education of relevant specialists at the university level.

To find out the implementation of the activities of planting the value of Islamic philanthropy (zakat, infaq, and sadaqah) at SD Islam Surya Buana, Malang. This research is qualitative research with qualitative descriptive research. the results of this study indicate that the process of planting philanthropic values in educational institutions through various forms of activities such as the Friday morning charity, Palestinian fundraising and fundraising for victims of natural disasters.

Fundraising of Waqf relatively difficult then fundraising of Zakah. It’s because waqf is not a religious obligation like Zakah. However, it is realized that waqf has great potential to become a tool for improving the economy of the ummah. The aim of this study is to describe the experience of UINSU Medan as an educational institution in collecting the Waqf. This study applies a qualitative approach, with three qualitative methods in data collection: library research, interviews, and data documentation. Open interviews were conducted with ten participants (students, lecturers, and employees). The findings of this study show that the success of Waqf fundraising is based on a mandatory basis, not on a voluntary basis.

The purpose of this paper is to find out the fundraising of waqf fund strategy conducted by Tazakka, Modern Boarding School, also to know how effective the implementation of these strategies in realizing the independence of this boarding school. This research uses quantitative research with descriptive approach that relies on primary data sourced from interviews. This paper interpreted the management of waqf funds in Tazakka Boarding School which consist the procedures of waqf association and effectiveness of waqf fund management to realize the independence of boarding school. Moreover, these findings reveal that the effective mechanisms involved in raising waqf funds, in turn, lead to the enhancement of the roles and functions of waqf institutions to build modern educational institutions today.

This paper studies the theoretical structure of financing for Islamic philanthropy in the form of waqf or endowment by looking at the past and present forms of waqf. Waqf is expected to play a more important role to tackle current social and educational issues, where financial sustainability has become one of the greatest challenges faced by waqf institutions. Using the content and thematic analysis approaches, this paper reviews the practice of successful waqf institutions and summarizes the features that are significant to a successful waqf fundraising and management. The paper analyses three models that are suitable for innovation and management of waqf fundraising: Venture Philanthropy of Waqf Model (VPWM), Value-Based Capital Model of Waqf (VBCM), and Social Enterprise Waqf Fund Model (SEWF). The paper then investigates the possibility of applying the Management by Objectives (MBO) framework to improve the overall management of waqf institutions. The discussions are hoped to be able to contribute towards developing a better fundraising and management of waqf institutions.

The article summarizes the arguments within the scientific discussion about the search of alternative sources of research universities funding in the absence of sufficient support from the government. The main objective of the research is to define the possibility of using the endowment as a fundraising tool to attract alternative sources of funding for research universities in Ukraine. The relevance of solving this scientific issue lies in the fact that modern research universities are independent entities, which according to the Bologna Declaration assume the entire load on the future of the state and have to do it at the highest professional level. This can be ensured through a combination of traditional and modern sources of funding. The world experience of successful implementation of the endowment has been presented. The level of knowledge intensity of GDP, which is one of the key indicators that reflects the level of quality of higher education, has been analyzed. The endowment as one of the most effective fundraising tools is poorly developed in Ukraine. This fact has prompted us to research the main provisions of this phenomenon and to define the conditions for its implementation in Ukrainian research-based institutions of higher education by means of the strategic analysis. The conducted SWOT analysis has made it possible to systematize problem areas of the domestic market of educational services in the direction of creating and using the endowment and predicting possible strategies for its development. Since the Research Universities are considered to be the core of creation of intellectual and innovative products and the crucial mover of scientific and technological progress in the country and in the world, they have been chosen as the research object. AbstractIn January 2020, the world was rocked by a corona virus outbreak, the virus first appeared in Wuhan City in China. The impact is not only China that feels other countries including Indonesia feel the shake. The impact caused by the corona virus is multidimensional social, economic, political, educational, and health. For the corona virus zakat institution, it has an impact on the collection of zakat. The purpose of this paper is to identify and analyze new strategies in collecting zakat in Indonesia. The approach used in this paper is descriptive qualitative. The main data source of this paper is information in various media about the fundraising strategy of zakat institutions which we limit Baznas, Dompet Dhuafa, Lazismu and Lazisnu. The conclusion of this paper is that zakat institutions in Indonesia (Baznas and LAZ) currently still integrate the collection manually and digitally. Oleh sebab itu pasca pandemi institusi zakat harus melakukan inovasi dalam penghimpunan zakat. Tujuan dari tulisan ini adalah untuk mengidentifikasi dan menganalisis bagaimana strategi baru dalam penghimpunan zakat di Indonesia. Pendekatan yang digunakan dalam tulisan ini adalah kualitatif deskriptif. Adapun sumber data utama tulisan ini adalah informasi di berbagai media mengenai strategi fundraising zakat institusi zakat yang kami batasi Baznas, Dompet Dhuafa, Lazismu dan Lazisnu. Kesimpulan dari tulisan ini adalah bahwa institusi zakat di Indonesia (Baznas maupun LAZ) saat ini masih mengintegrasikan penghimpunan secara manual dan digital. Charity fundraising organizers increasingly attempt to predict the donations to their causes to maximize the effectiveness of their expenditures and achieve their “social good” objectives. Much of the scholarly work in cause-related fundraising uses organization-specific demographic, geographic, psychographic and behavioral information about its donors to forecast donation amounts. Instead of distinguishing the potential donors, this study focuses on the prediction of the donations from existing donors. Specifically, a large dataset containing four years worth of transactional, appeals, source, and donor data related to a leading U.S. charitable organization was made available to the authors by the Direct Marketing Educational Foundation. The current paper contributes to the literature on donor lifetime value by documenting, in the context of a case study, the results of seven models for predicting future contributions using historic data over four years related to the cohort group of acquired donors.

The article is aimed at studying the main features of institutions of professional pre-higher education (colleges) as structural subdivisions of higher educational institutions and the peculiarities of their financial provision, as well as developing proposals for its optimization and accounting display, including in the direction of development of sources that are viewed as a structural subsystem of the financial mechanism. As a result of the study, the need to optimize the financing of education and its further development is proved. On the example of institutions of professional pre-higher education, the problem of reducing the number of applicants for education and educational institutions is identified, which negatively affects the level of supplying the Ukrainian labor market with specialists. The connection of the level of financing with the State policy on the development of education in Ukraine and the use of a new budget mechanism in this area, which stipulates the transfer of a number of pre-higher educational institutions to financial provision from local budgets, is determined. A significant impact on the functioning of pre-higher education on the part of the adopted Law of Ukraine «On Pre-Higher Education» is identified, which, among other things, defines the possibility of not only budgetary support, but also funding at the expense of other sources that are not prohibited by law, with the obligatory observance of the principles of targeted and effective use of funds, publicity and transparency in decision-making. The authors examine the problems that have occurred in the system of professional pre-higher education and it is concluded about absence of a comprehensive, scientifically based program of financial provision for the activities of educational institutions, which would create a financial basis for the strategic development of pre-higher education in Ukraine in the context of globalization and informatization of society. In its development, it is proposed to take into account all possible sources of financing, as well as to improve the accounting system in the direction of separate display of its revenues in the context of relevant sources and to form a working plan of accounts accordingly. The expediency of applying such a form of financing of social projects and target programs of educational institutions as fundraising, which represents a specially organized process of gathering monetary means for the implementation of projects of non-profit organizations, is substantiated. Financial provision of colleges based on fundraising can be carried out using instruments such as grants or payment for services on a contractual basis. Innovations in financing affect their accounting, and this issue is currently under-researched. Therefore, research on the issues of improving both the synthetic and the analytical accounting of financial provision from various sources, as well as the development of a system of documentary support of fundraising relations between counterparties, are perspective.

Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) ensuring inclusive and equitable quality of education and enhancing lifelong learning opportunities for all. Program Indonesia Pintar through the implementation of 12 Year Compulsory Education in the RPJMN 2015-2019 of which is increasing the number of educational participation with a target of 2019 APK of Higher Education of 36.7 percent. USA private fundraising for higher education are in Harvard, Stanford, Princeton, Texas, Massachusetts, Columbia, Pennsylvania, Texas, Northwestern, California, Chicago, Notre Dame, Duke, Cornell, Virginia, Yale, Washington and Emory. USA private fundraising for higher education are used for scholarships, especially for most outstanding students. USA private fundraising for higher education are used for library development, research in universities and other developments related. The use of funds makes USA higher education more sustainable. In 2012, the growing of private universities in India more strengthen, this is seen in the data of universities in India, which provide scholarships are 12,748 universities, but 9,541 university granting students in Indian universities is a private university. This has an impact on increasing access to private universities, with 64% of universities in India, is a private university, this is supported by private university admission applicants in India which accounted for 59% of total applicants of Indian universities. Narotama University in 2016 manages five faculties with 3,096 students and 112 lecturers. Private Partnership strategy includes Banks, and Private partners. Narotama Tower construction cost IDR 170 billion, 3 years construction, and will generate revenues of IDR 250 billion. Therefore, this strategy completes Narotama's development action besides financial analysis, planning and budgeting, performance reporting, cost accounting.

Our university does not have an OER mandate from our central campus administration, so the path towards greater awareness hasn’t been straightforward. We hope that sharing our nascent attempts to start this conversation on our campus, which have included starting a working group, offering faculty workshops, and fundraising for an OER librarian position, will help others begin to champion OER on their campuses.

Background:Since the establishment of ORS, we have been organising different activities for rheumatic diseases patients and their supporters within our five branches. After celebrating our 10thanniversary in 2017 we were keen to expand and improve our activities, learning from an organisation with long tradition, in order to strengthen our position and to start reaching another level – growing from a small to a medium-sized organization in the next three years.The main source of our income were the pharmaceutical companies (94%). We wanted to reduce their contribution to our budget by 20% in the next three years.We had established good cooperation with two medical high schools and we would like to consider cooperation with a medical faculty. We were keen to gain insight into the Patient Expert Programme (PEP) project that Swedish Rheumatism Association had developed and hoped to then begin and steadily develop successful cooperation with target institutions in Serbia in the next years. We would like to improve the cooperation with medical faculties and become a part educational program. And the PEP was the best way to achieve this aimObjectives:The aims of this knowledge transfer programme were for us to:1. Fundraising– Learn how to gather more voluntary contributions of money and other resources. Following the knowledge transfer visits we will organise a seminar to disseminate information with the representatives of all our branches. After the seminar our activists will have been trained to collect money for different activities. Those activities will attract more members and provide better life for people with RMDs.2. Patient Expert Program– Implement the Patient Expert Program. The implementation of this program would strengthen the connections with medical institutions, provide first/hand knowledge for future doctors, provide better care for RMDs patients in the future. The PEP will allow the organization to collaborate closer with the universities, the doctors, researchers, health professionals.3. It was organized the two-days PEP training as well as the visits to relevant institutions.From 23th January-26thJanuary 2020 two trainers from Sweden came to Serbia in order to hold the exams.Results:Association of Rheumatic Diseases Patients of the Republic of Serbia now has six Patient Experts for RA. They will be involved in the education of future doctors through the lectures within the subject Intern Medicine.ORS improved cooperation with Faculty of Medicine in Belgrade, as well as, with Ministry of Health.Conclusion:- We achieve to have six Patient Experts. A new financing alternative, known as crowdfunding, has expanded rapidly. Not all crowdfunding projects or campaigns can successfully reach the desired funding amount. Many studies have shown that social capital is a determinant of crowdfunding success, and some of it could be applied to the education domain. This study investigates the influence of the multidimensional social capital on the donation-based crowdfunding within the scope of educational campaigns belonging to higher education institutions students. This study uses the primary data extracted from the Skolafund crowdfunding site, a specialised third-party platform for higher education. This study, using the theory of multidimensional social capital as the theoretical foundation, develops a logit model linking all three social capital dimensions. The findings imply that only two social capital dimensions, namely structural and relational, are significant factors influencing the crowdfunding success likelihood. This study also finds that campaigns with lower funding targets are more likely to succeed. The practical implications of this study suggest the students should leverage their social capital to increase the fundraising amount. Higher education institutions also should consider to set up their crowdfunding platforms quickly or encourage students to utilise a third-party platform, such as Skolafund.

Effective implementation of higher education policy is impossible without adequate financial support for higher education institutions. Given the deficit of budget funds, the higher education institutions faced significant difficul-ties in the formation of financial resources for the implementation of their functions, which forced them to look for sources of additional funds, especially extra-budgetary sources of funding. The purpose of the article is to study the economic and legal aspect extra-budgetary financing of higher education institutions, in particular to substantiate the feasibility of diversifying financial resources of higher education institutions in in conditions of reducing budget funding; coverage of certain areas of extra-budgetary activities of higher education institutions and attraction of charitable assistance (fundraising). It is substantiated that the diversification of sources of funding for higher edu-cation institutions is associated with chronic budget underfunding, increased competition between higher education institutions, the need to increase the salaries of research and teaching staff, etc. It was found that extra-budgetary sources of funding for higher education institutions are divided into funds from extra-budgetary activities and earmarked funds. Certain areas of extra-budgetary activities of the higher education institutions are identified: the field of educational services (paid education, preparation for admission to the higher education institutions, and in-dependent external evaluation, retraining, advanced training, training of foreign students, providing individual paid consultations, paid short courses and seminars, etc.), research and production activities (contractual research work, consulting activity; innovation incubators, scientific and technical parks, etc.), commercial activity (publishing of textbooks, rent of areas and scientific equipment, etc.), services for students and staff (paid services for nutrition, treatment and rehabilitation), financial asset management. It is noted that the main source of extra-budgetary funds of higher education institutions of state and communal forms of ownership are funds from the provision of paid educational services. The content of fundraising as a new direction of attracting attraction of financial support by the educational institution is considered. The expediency of creating an endowment (permanent free economic fund) for the purpose of financing scholarships, research grants and other programs has been proved.

In the context of global competition, Russian universities search for the most efficient solutions to achieve competitiveness in the global market. The particular challenges that Russian universities face today include enhancing the quality of education and research, development of export potential, integration into international academic environment, diversification and search for new financial sources. The article considers international project activity as the most efficient tool of university internationalization process and solving the university tasks. Fundraising and international projects provide substantial support for achieving the set objectives in terms of both allocating additional financial resources and attracting intellectual capacity of international partners. Due to such features as practice orientation, time limits, and the ability to integrate different types and forms of international cooperation, the projects help university to address the challenges in a complex way and achieve multiple effects and, therefore, contribute significantly to developing world-demanded research, creating scholars networks and publishing, strengthening international partnerships, capacity building, enhancing academic mobility, developing the university campus and its infrastructure. The authors present the management model of international fundraising and projects implementation at Northern (Arctic) Federal University named after M. Lomonosov, describe specific features of carrying out research and educational projects in cross-cultural context (also within the framework of cross-border cooperation in Barents Euro-Arctic Region). The article outlines the competences required for successful project implementation, gives examples of NArFU international projects aimed at solving challenges in the Arctic Region. The efficiency of the given management model is analyzed, also by presenting the results of sociological survey made with involvement of the projects participants.

A university faculty-managed and student-run service-learning program provides seasonal plants and floral designs for holidays and special events on campus. Native and well-adapted plants for client personal use are also promoted and sold throughout the semester. Students propagate and grow greenhouse and nursery crops and create floral designs through service-learning applications in classes. Floral designs and greenhouse/nursery products are advertised via e-mail to members of the university's faculty and staff. The purpose of this study was to document program fundraising over time, as well as to measure the experiential value to the students and the quality of life benefits to the campus community. Economic benefits were evaluated by reviewing overall and average costs and earnings from the program over a 13-year period. Results indicated the average profits for the program were $6578 annually, with most sales occurring during the late spring semester. Surveys collected qualitative data from students participating in the program and indicated the experience was a valuable hands-on horticultural teaching tool, but also helped students build confidence, learn business skills in management and networking, and find their passion within the industry. Unsolicited comments from faculty and staff found that the program brought joy, had educational value, and provided a service to departments.

Indian universities have been facing difficulty getting world-class status as a very few Indian higher educational institutions have made it through the global rankings. We need to understand the unique challenges of the Indian higher education sector and what academic leaders of globally ranked institutions do to respond to those challenges. The interview-based qualitative study was designed to identify the key roles and responsibilities of leaders. Nvivo Pro was used for the initial analysis of the interview scripts of twelve academic leaders of globally ranked higher educational institutions. Nine responsibilities – visioning, fundraising, safeguarding, managing intellectuals, attracting bright students, social inclusion, social responsibility, engaging into academics, and administration – were explored under four latent categories of academic leadership roles that included boundary spanning, nurturing human talent, social contribution, and operations using a ‘six-step thematic analysis approach’. These roles are discussed in the ‘Results and discussion’ section with respect to the challenges that the Indian higher education sector faces. Our paper identified a unique emerging theme ‘social inclusion’ that plays a vital role in the worldwide status of Indian higher education. We provide a few guidelines for developing and strengthening Indian academic leadership as well.

Background and context: With an eagle's eye our vision of eighties resulted in the incorporation of Cancer Aid Society on 8th of December 1987 at Lucknow. Founders of the Cancer Aid Society perceived the threats early and initiated the fight against cancer by developing a self-sustainable model without external financial assistance unfurling series of events internationally. As of now ours is a holistic model on cancer prevention integrated with NCDs, tobacco and palliative care demonstrating replicability within different communities and scalability across the worlds largest democracy having its own network of branches. Aim: Self-sustainable model prevention and control of tobacco, cancer integrated with other NCDs, palliative care and advocacy. Strategy/Tactics: Sponsored cancer awareness programs are organized free of cost in schools and colleges however we accept voluntary donations from the community if any. As schools have contact with the child and their family from kindergarten to senior secondary, they inculcate the spirit of humanitarianism and work for social amelioration improving the overall health of the citizens strengthening the fight against cancer. It covers the need of the current and future generations on cancer control. Program process: Keeping with the ages old adage “Prevention Is Better Than Cure” thousands of community awareness campaigns are organized in educational Institutions every year by mobilizing a million volunteers who generate awareness among twenty million people all over India on health, hygiene, tobacco abuse including passive smoking, carcinogens, balanced diet, regular exercise, obesity, clean drinking water, pollution of air, water and land etc. This plays an integral part in inculcating healthy lifestyle and keeping children away from tobacco at an age when they are vulnerable and tempted the most further grooming our future generation when they are most receptive and in the process of developing habits. They multiply awareness manifold improving the overall health of the community. Costs and returns: As the program follows an integrated and holistic approach on prevention and control of cancer and other NCDs virtually it lacks any administrative costs and offers 100% returns on investments. In last decade INR 144,968,969 spent in sponsored cancer awareness programs. What was learned: With our 30 years of experience of working at grass root community level all across India in spite of regional complexities in terms of multiple languages, cultures, castes, religions etc. ISO 9001 NGO accreditation has given us teeth since 2004 streamlining our functioning through documentation and continuous improvement program through reporting monitoring and feedback. As of now we are ready to share our experiences at international level.

Abstract BACKGROUND Approximately 80,000 new Americans are diagnosed with a brain tumor annually. Social media (SM) has emerged as a powerful tool for patient empowerment. Its effective utilization by healthcare professionals is vital for better connection to patients and dissemination of evidence-based information. OBJECTIVES: To develop guidelines for optimal utilization of SM by neuro-oncologists, through a review of user engagement with content posted on SM relating to brain tumors. METHODS Facebook (FB) and Twitter (TW) were searched using the term Brain Tumor. Page/account information such as user type, media (image/video) utilization in posts, and audience size (likes / followers) were recorded. Average activity and account annual growth (AAG) were calculated. Top qualitative themes were assigned. Correlations were assessed with Pearson’s test. RESULTS FB was predominantly used by organizations (64% of accounts) and provided a larger audience (67 pages,581 likes) than TW (25 accounts, 67,295 followers), which had similar proportion of personal (44%) and organizational accounts (52%). Charity & Fundraising (67%) was the top FB theme. Education & Research (72%) was the top TW theme. In FB, the page’s annual growth (PAG) was not related to rate of monthly posting or the length of activity on FB, but presence on other concurrent platforms (Rho: 0.59) was influential for PAG and audience size (p < 0.05). In TW, quantity of monthly tweets (Rho: 0.66) and media utilization (Rho: 0.78) significantly correlated with audience size and AAG (p-values < 0.05). CONCLUSION A multi-platform SM presence and use of relatable images/videos have a strong impact on both FB and TW engagement. FB is a stronger platform for organizations valuable for charity and fundraising. Multi-platform presence is more important than frequent posts on FB. TW is equally used by organizations and individuals, serving as an excellent medium for dissemination of research and educational material.

Its aims are to encourage belief in the value of law as an instrument of justice and to give practical effect to this goal by providing legal and educational services in the public interest. It is controlled and funded by the Legal Resources Trust (LRT) which is a South African charitable and educational trust registered under the Fundraising Act. It is supported by development agencies, corporations, charitable foundations and concerned individuals. The trustees include judges, senior advocates and attorneys. For the fiscal year April 1990 to March 1991 the trustees of the LRT approved a budget of R8.5 million for the work of the LRC's offices.The LRC was established after nation-wide consultations on the desirability of a legal resources centre produced positive feedback from a wide range of constituencies, and it became operational at the beginning of 1979. AbstractThe Byurakan Astrophysical Observatory (BAO, Armenia, http://www.bao.am) are among the candidate IAU Regional Nodes for Astronomy for Development activities. It is one of the main astronomical centers of the former Soviet Union and the Middle East region. At present there are 48 qualified researchers at BAO, including six Doctors of Science and 30 PhDs. Five important observational instruments are installed at BAO, the larger ones being 2.6m Cassegrain (ZTA-2.6) and 1m Schmidt (the one that provided the famous Markarian survey). BAO is regarded as a national scientific-educational center, where a number of activities are being organized, such as: international conferences (4 IAU symposia and 1 IAU colloquium, JENAM-2007, etc.), small workshops and discussions, international summer schools (1987, 2006, 2008 and 2010), and Olympiads. BAO collaborates with scientists from many countries. The Armenian Astronomical Society (ArAS, http://www.aras.am/) is an NGO founded in 2001; it has 93 members and it is rather active in the organization of educational, amateur, popular, promotional and other matters. The Armenian Virtual Observatory (ArVO, http://www.aras.am/Arvo/arvo.htm) is one of the 17 national VO projects forming the International Virtual Observatories Alliance (IVOA) and is the only VO project in the region serving also for educational purposes. Purpose The purpose of this paper is to bring attention to “entrepreneurial finance education”, an aspect of entrepreneurship education that is widely taught but neglected by the educational literature. It does so by exploring how social capital, a key resource for entrepreneurs, can be incorporated into entrepreneurial finance education. Design/methodology/approach By drawing upon social capital literature in the context of funding sources for entrepreneurs, the paper highlights the significance of bonding and bridging social capital for entrepreneurial finance. Findings The review of relevant literature confirms the importance of social capital for entrepreneurial finance. The existence of bonding social capital, which refers to a trusting relationship between entrepreneurs and financiers, allows entrepreneurs to access their financiers’ resources (e.g. contacts, knowledge, reputation, further funds) through bridging social capital. Practical implications Students of entrepreneurial finance need to understand the role that both facets of social capital play in the context of fundraising. This paper proposes ways of incorporating social capital into various approaches to entrepreneurial finance education. This allows educators to include relevant topics and research into their syllabi, while enabling students to study a crucial, yet under-represented, topic in entrepreneurial finance education. Originality/value Given that entrepreneurial finance education has to date been neglected in the educational literature, this paper begins to address a huge void. It clarifies potential contents of entrepreneurial finance education, demonstrates the importance of including social capital in the education of entrepreneurial finance students and suggests practical ways of achieving this.

In the 20–30s of the 20th century special attention was paid to the formation of the ideological worldview of students of education institutions, future teachers who were to shape the political consciousness of the younger generation with communist ideals. The ideological principles of the party were subordinated to the social activities of youth, in particular, in Kyiv pedagogical educational institutions. The article deals with the work of student clubs and student government bodies, various organizations. Since the mid-20s of the 20th century trade union organizations took over the functions of youth advocates, which were largely influenced by university administrations and controlled the social composition of students, who presented themselves as an exclusively peasant workers. Some of the students were embraced by work in the cells of voluntary societies, the government used to propagate their ideas of socialist construction and the ideological education of the masses. The most active were the cells of Tsoaviakhim, which oversaw the work of the rifle circles. Close to them were sports clubs. Universities also operated cells of MOPR, the Friends of the Children societies, the All-Ukrainian Society for Land Organization of Working Jews OZET, and the Friends of Radio. The ideological work among students was intensified by the student press, the production of “live and light newspapers” that covered the processes of building a higher school, the participation of youth organizations in the proletariat of institutes and technical schools, the life and attitude of students, their participation in cultural work etc. Most of the time, students took part in enriching work. In particular, they worked on various campaigns related to raising funds for the state’s economic needs, participating in fundraising to strengthen defense, days of industrialization, etc.

Examples of urban restoration and rewilding are critical in promoting grass roots efforts to restore ecosystems diversity in built environments. Honey bees are a vital part of many ecosystems, and urban beekeeping is a growing initiative with multiple benefits, spanning from ecological revitalization, to community cooperation, education, and cohesion. Here, we provide our own experience establishing an extensive system of roof top apiaries as cooperative effort between residents, schools, organizations, and businesses in the city of Detroit, Michigan. Our goal was to contribute to both the health of honey bee colonies and the education of their importance to our urban environment, through wide community engagement including interactive children’s educational events. Honey produced from this not-for-profit initiative is donated to local charities and small businesses, for fundraising, and also used for food and beverages in hospitality around the city. Research collaborations with scientists studying honey bee colony health, including the microbiome of honey bees, will explore possible solutions to help protect from pathogens and diseases. Most of all, we hope that this example will be of inspiration to others to take steps towards ecological solutions, in any and every form, within their own communities.

Public gardens are complex, multi-faceted, diverse organizations that execute a broad scope of tasks including fundraising, educational programming, marketing, public relations, and horticultural research. This broad scope of work creates numerous challenges for these institutions. One of which is conflict between front-line and administrative staffs. The goal of this research is to help explain why conflict between front-line and administrative staffs exists in public gardens. The research found no existing research on the topic of conflict in botanic gardens, but some in other industries. The research was a mixed methods design, including two case studies at separate public gardens and an online questionnaire. Both case studies consisted of separate focus groups and individual interviews with staff at different levels of the organization. Questionnaire results also came from various personnel levels (front-line and administrative) of public gardens. Once final data collection occurred, they were coded into similar categories outlined by the Malcolm Baldridge Standards, an internationally recognized assessment tool for excellence. Early analysis of the data indicates that conflict occurs due to a lack of: a clear mission and vision, effective communication, and empowerment within the organization.

This essay examines the role and agency of British archaeologists in the discussions surrounding Egypt’s construction of the Aswan High Dam beginning in the late 1950s. The dam was conceived as a grand engineering project that would create new farmland and make Egypt self-sufficient in terms of its energy needs, but flooding caused by the dam threatened to destroy numerous archaeological sites along the Nile River on the border of Egypt and Sudan. With the blessing of the Egyptian and Sudanese governments, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) launched a complex rescue operation in 1960 with the goal of surveying the affected sites, in some cases removing entire structures to safe locations. Despite Britain’s initial reluctance—four years after the Suez crisis—to participate in a program that would benefit an avowedly hostile regime, British scientific expertise and private fundraising soon came to play an important role in UNESCO’s ‘Campaign for Nubia’. Using diplomatic papers and the records of various scientific bodies, I will argue that British participation in the UNESCO archaeological program was a crucial avenue for Anglo-Egyptian rapprochement during the 1960s and 1970s.

AbstractChronic shortages of resources to run the state have been a feature of Mozambique since the colonial period. Even before the adoption of structural adjustment programmes (SAPs) in the late 1980s, conditions were austere due to the effects of Portuguese colonialism, a decade of liberation struggle, prolonged civil war and policy mistakes following independence in 1975. Drawing from archival research and oral accounts, this article analyses the impact of the liberalization of higher education in Mozambique. It explores the strategies adopted by intellectuals and academics to navigate reduced state support and donor conditionalities accompanying austerity measures from the late 1980s. It also highlights the paradoxical effects of austerity measures on fundraising, intellectual production, and the expansion of educational institutions. Austerity measures brought about by SAPs have forced universities and faculty to reinvent themselves by commercializing and privatizing higher education and seeking external funding for research. At the same time, scholars are now intellectually freer but more dependent on donors’ research agendas. ABSTRACTIn recent years, increasing public attention has been paid to voluntary action, civic engagement and philanthropy. It is in this framework that the growing numbers of childless older people are regarded as a valuable source of charitable giving. In fact, by giving to philanthropic foundations – instead of consuming their wealth or leaving inheritances – childless donors may develop into pioneers in the field of post-familial civic engagement. The article explores the circumstances under which childless older people adopt this behaviour in both Germany and the United States of America. It is found that making large donations or setting up philanthropic foundations is still an elite phenomenon, but on the other hand that establishing a foundation is attractive for childless people, both as a means of ensuring that one's name lives on, and as a way of organising bequests. Educational level, ill-health, social capital and religiosity all positively reinforce the inclination of childless people to transfer resources to charities. It is also shown that the institutional framework or organised fundraising has a large role in fostering charitable giving among the childless. The framework of charity organisations and fund raising in the country of residence plays an important role in determining the expansion and democratisation of charitable giving.

AbstractWhile scholars have rightly recognised that the First World War transformed twentieth-century Ireland, this article queries assumptions regarding the scope and scale of public support for hostilities during 1917 and 1918. Eleven elite boys’ schools are used as case studies to assess civilian reactions to the ongoing war effort, food shortages, and the 1918 conscription crisis within specific institutional communities, illuminating the importance of socio-religious affiliations and political aspirations in determining late-war behaviour. Drawing on school magazines and newspaper coverage of college events, it is argued that alternative visions of statehood underpinned divergent reactions to the conflict; Protestant schools clung to fundraising and militaristic activities seen to support continued union with Britain but Catholic establishments rejected such endeavours in the wake of increased separatist sentiment. This research also casts new light on the interplay between conflict, educational socialisation and politicisation in revolutionary Ireland. Constitutional nationalist reputation aside, wartime mobilisation in elite Catholic schools proved extremely lacklustre, while the unionist expectations their Protestant counterparts had for the post-war world ultimately went unfulfilled. Prestigious colleges across the denominational spectrum demonstrably navigated late-war pressures on their own terms, shaping Ireland's political landscape both throughout and beyond the conflict's most contentious years.

The use of film in anti-tuberculosis campaigns dates back to at least the 1910s in Scandinavia and elsewhere. However, in the immediate wake of World War II, developments in mass public health screening necessitated a new wave of informational films that explained x-rays, Mantoux tests and Bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG) vaccination to the public. This article examines three such cases: first, Alle i fare! (All Endangered!) (Falk, Norway, 1948); second, a suite of films made in 1948 by Danish filmmaker Hagen Hasselbach for UNICEF for educational and fundraising purposes; and third, Medan det ännu är tid (‘While there’s still time’) (Martin Söderhjelm, Sweden, 1952). The films are contextualized within the broader history of anti-tuberculosis films and campaigns, as well as the circumstances of their commissioning and distribution. The article identifies a range of narrative and visual strategies that construct a new kind of national and global citizen whose body is made available and visible to public authorities for the collective good. In particular, it is argued that the (re)mediation of new mass screening technologies such as x-rays, skin tests and health data often make use of the properties of the projection screen, demonstrating the entanglement of medical and media technologies.

The relevance of the study is due to the need to form competences in sphere of information and communications technology (hereinafter – ICT competences) among youth leaders, because they transfer this experience of using the Internet and digital technologies to other young people. Within the framework of formal education, this problem is not given necessary attention; accordingly, the non-formal education system has the right to compensate for this shortcoming through the implementation of additional programs that form IСT competences in young people. The purpose of this study is to substantiate theoretically and test experimentally the effectiveness of the program for the formation of IСT competences of youth leaders through the organization of training events in the system of non-formal education. The leading research method was a pedagogical experiment, in which 15 leaders of youth non-profit organizations from 8 European countries took part. The participants were pre-selected, which involved the analysis of practical experience in the field of digital technologies and the presence of motivation to learn. The questionnaire method was used in this study (online self-assessment tool “Digital Skills Accelerator”). The questionnaire is based on five areas of practical use of ICT competences: general information literacy, communication, digital product creation, information security, and solution of technical problems. To confirm the reliability of the data, the method of mathematical statistics (T-Wilcoxon test) was used. The results of the pedagogical experiment show that significant changes have occurred in terms of the indicators "General information literacy", "Communication", "Creation of digital products" (at the significance level p = 0.01), as well as "Information security" (at the significance level 0.05). There were no significant changes in the indicator “Solving technical problems”. The article presents the experience of implementing the training program for the Digital youth cafe: online tools for communication and fundraising strategies in the youth field. During this project, a blog on the implementation and results of the project; online fundraising and communication campaigns, open webinars on project topics were created. This study proved the effectiveness of the formation of ICT competences of youth leaders in the system of non-formal education through the implementation of an educational project. The materials of this article can be useful for workers and leaders of youth organizations, as well as for specialists in the field of non-formal education of youth.

The article considers the retrospective and modern aspects of the development of charitable activity in the socio-economic sense, which is the assistance to other persons at the expense of own welfare or free time, and provided that this assistance does not harm other persons and is carried out within the law. Charity should benefit not only the immediate recipient of benefit but also society as a whole. The authors emphasize that the conducted study supports their hypothesis that under the conditions of globalization, society increasingly focuses on social issues that arise as a result of insufficient state resources and so charity becomes a factor in their successful resolution. The development of charity is a system of social, economic, and cultural factors. One of the stages of the development of charity was the creation of charitable foundations specializing in various fields: scientific, cultural, sporting, educational projects, assistance to needy families, help for orphanages, hospitals, fundraising for expensive treatment and other projects. In today’s world, the attitude towards charity as a professional occupation has become widespread, becoming a “social norm.” Charitable funds are a separate and important component of the charitable institution. The concept of “charity” came into the public consciousness as a humanistic call of a person to go to the needy, regardless of religious, national, racial, social affiliation or political or ideological beliefs. Retrospective analysis showed that forms of philanthropy in the advanced form existed already in ancient Rome and ancient Greece; in medieval Europe, they already acquired the status of state and social policy at the legislative level. In the Christian aspect of ancient Rus of the adoption of the Orthodox faith in 988, the foundations of charity are laid as socio-ethical norms of society. In the second half of the XVIII century, as a result of secularization, charitable societies, hospitals, almshouses, open by public organizations and private individuals arise, that is, there are social and state institutions of charity. And charitable funds, which are socio-economic professional activities, are beginning to develop. From ancient to modern times, charitable activity is carried out in the forms of patronage, sponsorship, volunteering, fundraising. Modern trends of charity include: increase of the non-profit sector and its internationalization; cooperation of charitable foundations, development of a social partnership with business, state bodies, and foreign funds; professionalization through the creation of network charity. In turn, charity abroad is characterized by growing professionalism, a variety of forms and programs of cooperation, the growth and expansion of the sphere itself and its importance for non-profit, in particular, socio-cultural activities. The undisputed leader in this area is the USA – the birthplace of modern sponsorship and fundraising. The authors conditionally distinguish three levels of charity. The typology and general characteristics of foreign charitable foundations, typical for the USA, European countries, and Ukraine, are presented. Features of creation and functioning of quasi-public funds are considered. On a global scale, the foreign activity of the US foundations is significant, and the expenditures exceed the official foreign aid budgets of many countries. However, their presence in Ukraine is relatively low. The volume of support is negligible compared to official support amounts: according to the OECD, the amount of grants actually received by Ukraine from other states and multilateral donors in 2011–2017 amounted to more than 5 billion USD while less than 0.1 billion USD came to Ukraine from US foundations. But this does not exclude the role of private donors in solving certain problems, in particular, in terms of supporting civil society, protecting the rights of vulnerable groups of the population, etc.

It is also argued that Black youth would gain significantly from community based educational programs that root their learning more closely in the life, experiences and needs of their community. The Black Academic Scholarship Fund (BASF) is a non- profit organization that has been active in the community since 1981. Its main goal is to provide scholarships to visible minority students who are actively pursuing a course of study in an accredited institution. The objective is to enhance the economic status of the Black community and provide more opportunities for students to achieve their educational goals. The organization received its letters Pa-tent in March 1996 with the registered Charity No. 89440 6396. This has facilitated it fundraising initiatives. The motivation for this presentation derives from the commitment of the Black Academic Scholarship Fund (BASF) to responsible social action and hence to the principles of “collaborative unity and existential responsibility “ espoused by the Black Community Forum of Montreal of which it is a member. The paper presents BASF’s actions and focus on “gaining equity in education and empowering black learners” wherever they are in the system. The experiences of the work of BASF and other organization such as the QBBE and the BSC are that Black learners, in Montreal, benefit from community-based education centered on the experiences of African Canadians. These programs are intended are resourced essential by the community. The main goal of this work is to develop effective forms of financing for cultural industries. Information and methodological elements were formed. ensuring the process of logistics of the cultural services system. As a result, there is an objective need for system monitoring of the database of cultural industry organizations and innovative use of modern information technologies in solving complex economic problems to justify optimal solutions with a variety of alternative options.According to the author's classification of cultural services into passive and active, it is possible to distinguish two ways in the development of basic technologies and in the cultural industry. Mechanisms of innovative interaction of cultural institutions with business and government structures can be divided into several types: project financing (support for certain projects); social innovation and investment (support coincides with certain business strategies); donation interaction with business on a philanthropic basis; investment exchanges for cultural, art and creative projects; service contract (life cycle contract); fundraising for scientific (educational) and cultural services; concessions in the cultural industry; business incubators as a multiplier-accelerator for the culture industry (support for the system of cultural services at an early stage) , etc. The development and application of cross-industry information and communication technologies gives the largest volume of production of cultural services with a low cost, due to the scale of production.

Waqf continues to develop as a pillar of people's economic power, from the conventional land waqf concept of social and educational facilities to the modern enough stage, now known as cash waqf money, cash waqf linked sukuk (CWLS) and fintech linked to the waqf fundraising process. The aim of this study is to provide an understanding of the legal status of waqf producers, through the use of fintech applications in the context of Law No. 41 of 2004 on Waqf and Law No. 11 of 2008 on Electronic Information and Transactions, and through a processing methodology to find an economic empowerment model for people with productive waqf assets. The study uses a methodology which refers to qualitative legal research. Research findings concluded that Fintech apps are not properly regulated by Waqf of the ITE Law, but are still permitted to be used in the management of cash waqf as long as they are not in breach of the law in force. In the management of waqf, Nazhir shall be liable and may be prosecuted in the event of a loss of waqf properties due to its negligence. The purpose of this study was to explore what types of digital content cultural institutions implemented during COVID-19 temporary closures and their effects on social media engagement. Existing research identified the role of digital content and social media in cultural institutions, but only in times of normal operations. This study adds to the existing literature by exploring the types of digital content implemented, impacts on social media engagement, measures of social media engagement, and future implications in regard to COVID-19 temporary closures. This study recruited 66 cultural institutions from across the United States to take part in in-depth semi-structured phone interviews to fulfill the research goals. Museums, zoos, aquariums, performing arts organizations, heritage foundations, and historical societies were represented. A qualitative approach was adopted, and content analysis on the interview transcripts indicated that cultural institutions implemented digital content to build communities through live and serialized content, partnerships, fundraising, increased transparency, and increased accessibility during temporary closures. Using primarily Instagram and Facebook with their digital content, cultural institutions increased social media engagement during this time. Although there was no consensus on best practices in measuring social media engagement, many institutions highlighted tracking active engagement such as likes, comments, and shares. As a result of the success of the digital content, cultural institutions planned continued digital content campaigns such as videos, blogs, partnerships, and paid educational content in times of normal operations.
