Resumen
Mathematical model of selective and competitive oxidation of multi-component non ideal alloys is used for modelling oxidation of Fe-Cr-Ni alloys. The model is based on: a) the Danielewski-Holly model of interdiffusion, b) the Wagner model of the Ni-Pt alloy oxidation, c) the postulate that the values of fluxes in reacting alloy are limited (the kinetic constraint) and d) the thermodynamics of the Fe-Ni-Cr system. In this paper for the first time modelling of oxidation of a ternary non-ideal alloy based on Danielewski-Holly model is presented. The model is used to predict the evolution of component distributions in the reacting ternary Fe-Cr-Ni alloy. The results of the modelling of oxidation of the 316L stainless steel at 1173 K are presented. We compute the chromium depletion during the long term oxidation. The results allows to conclude that the oxidation reaction is limited by interdiffusion in reacting alloy. The computations demonstrate that the chromium depletion is the key factor affecting the scale stability during the long time exposition.

Resumen
Metastable beta Ti-Cr-Sn-Zr alloys used as biomaterial show low Young’s modulus and super-elasticity according to the phase stability of their beta phase. In this study, we substituted Nb and Fe for Cr in metastable beta Ti-2Cr-6Sn-45Zr alloy and investigated their effect. We investigated how the added amount of Cr, Nb and Fe influences the phase stability and the properties of low Young’s modulus and super-elasticity in Ti-x-Sn-Zr (x=Cr, Nb or Fe) alloys. The Young’s modulus of a Ti-x-Sn-Zr (x=Cr, Nb or Fe) alloy decreases with the addition of Cr, Nb or Fe. However, the Young’s modulus of a Ti-x-Sn-Zr (x=Cr, Nb or Fe) alloy increases with the addition of Cr, Nb or Fe after showing own minimum value respectively. Minimum Young’s modulus of several Ti-x-Sn-Zr (x=Cr, Nb or Fe) alloys were under 50GPa. The required amount of Cr, Nb or Fe in the Ti-x-Sn-Zr (x=Cr, Nb or Fe) alloy having minimum Young’s modulus is different according to the beta stabilizing ability of each element. Fe amounts were the smallest and Nb amounts were the largest. Ti-x-Sn-Zr (x=Cr, Nb or Fe) alloy with minimum Young’s modulus shows a stress-induced martensitic transformation. However, only Ti-Cr-Sn-Zr alloys showed definite super-elasticity. The recovered strain by super-elasticity is small in Ti-Nb-Sn-Zr alloy. Ti-Fe-Sn-Zr alloy didn’t show super-elasticity or large elongation.

Purpose – The purpose of this study is to prepare new Fe-Cr-B alloys which have better wear resistance and investigate the wear mechanisms of these alloys tribotesting against SiC ceramic balls under dry sliding process. Design/methodology/approach – Fe-Cr matrix alloys were fabricated using powder metallurgy route. The tribological behaviors of Fe-Cr alloys tribotesting against SiC ceramic balls using a ball-on-disc tribotester were studied at different testing conditions. Meanwhile, microstructure, phases and morphology of worn surfaces were investigated. Findings – The element boron improved mechanical properties and tribological behavior of alloys. The friction coefficients of Fe-Cr matrix alloys did not show obvious difference. The specific wear rates of alloys decreased and then increased because of the brittleness of alloys with the increase of boron content. Fe-21 weight per cent Cr-7 weight per cent B alloy showed the best tribological properties in dry sliding. The wear mechanism of Fe-Cr alloy was plastic deformation and abrasive wear. However, the Fe-Cr-B alloys showed fatigue spalling characteristics. Originality/value – This paper reported a new, cheap and wear-resistant Fe matrix material to prepare mechanical parts in food and mining industrial fields.

Resumen
The diffusivity of refractory elements in heat resistant steels is crucial for the basic understanding of the microstructural stability during creep. The purposes of this study are to estimate the diffusivity in Fe-Cr alloys as a base alloy for the bcc matrix phase in high Cr ferritic steels and also to investigate the alloying effect of Re on the W diffusivity in them. Fe-15Cr and Fe-20Cr binary alloys, Fe-15Cr-5Re, Fe-15Cr-5W, Fe-20Cr-5Re ternary alloys [mol%] were used in this study. On the basis of the modified ternary Boltzmann-Matano method, the interdiffusion coefficients were obtained in Fe-Cr-Re ternary system. The apparent interdiffusion coefficient for the Re-doped Fe-Cr-W alloy was about one fifth of that for the Re-free alloy. It is concluded that the existence of Re retarded significantly the W diffusion in Fe-15mol%Cr based alloy. This is probably the main reason why a small amount of Re addition suppress the microstructural evolution of W containing high Cr ferritic steels.

In this paper, a method of using the second phase to control the grain growth in Fe–Al–Cr alloys was proposed, in order to obtain better mechanical properties. In Fe–Al–Cr alloys, austenitic transformation occurs by adding austenitizing elements, leading to the formation of the second phase and segregation at the grain boundaries, which hinders grain growth. FeCr(σ) phase was obtained in the Fe–Al–Cr alloys, which had grains of several microns and was coherent and coplanar with the matrix (Fe2AlCr). The nucleation of σ phase in Fe–Al–Cr alloy was controlled by the ratio of nickel to chromium. When the Ni/Cr (eq) ratio of alloys was more than 0.19, σ phase could nucleate in Fe–Al–Cr alloy. The relationship between austenitizing and nucleation of FeCr(σ) phase was given by thermodynamic calculation.

Interdiffusion coefficients of the refractory elements in Fe-W-Re and Fe-Cr-X (X=Mo, W) ternary alloys have been measured on the basis of the modified Boltzmann-Matano method for ternary system. Both the cross interdiffusion coefficients, Fe ReW ~D and Fe WRe ~D were negative in Fe-W-Re ternary alloys. This result indicates that attractive interaction exists between W and Re atoms in iron alloys [1]. This is consistent with our previous experimental results that Re suppresses W diffusion in Fe-15Cr alloy [1]. In addition, the value of cross interdiffusion coefficient Fe CrW ~D was positive in Fe-Cr-W diffusion system, whereas Fe MoCr ~D was negative in Fe-Cr-Mo diffusion system.

The hypereutectic Al-Si alloys with different Cr additions have been prepared by spray forming and cast processes. With adding Cr into Al-25Si-5Fe-3Cu (wt.%, denoted as 3C) alloy, the long needle-like δ-Al4FeSi2 phases in the cast 3C alloy were almost substituted by skeletal α-Al(Fe,Cr)Si phase, which was refined into granular α-Al(Fe,Cr)Si phase (≤ 3-5 μm) in Cr-added deposits. By using hot extrusion almost full densification of the deposits can be made, but induces coarsening of Fe-bearing phases in as-deposited 3C and C10 (adding 1.0 wt.% Cr into 3C alloy) alloys. The size of the granular α-Al(Fe,Cr)Si phase is still less than 5 μm after hot extrusion of the as-deposited C20 alloy, while some plate-like β-Al5(Fe,Cr)Si phases (~20 μm) disappeared. The thermal stability, mechanical properties were also evaluated.

The hardening behavior of precipitation was studied during aging of Fe-Cr alloys. This mechanical behavior is associated with the nanometric modulation structure of the coherent decomposed Fe-rich and Cr-rich phases formed by the spinodal decomposition of the supersaturated solid solution. The growth kinetics of spinodal decomposition was very slow and it increased during coarsening stage. The morphology of decomposed phases consisted of an interconnected irregular shape with no preferential alignment for short aging times and a further aging caused the change to a plate shape of the decomposed Cr-rich phase aligned in the <110> directions of the Fe-rich matrix. The rapid increase in hardness and embrittlement seem to be associated with the coherency and nanometer size of the spinodally-decomposed phases in the aged alloys.

AbstrakFe-Cr merupakan paduan yang memiliki ketahanan pada suhu tinggi dan kemampuan yang dapat digunakan sebagai interkonek pada sel bakar Solid Oxide Fuel Cell (SOFC). Pada penelitian ini telah dilakukan sintesis bongkah paduan Fe-Cr dengan menggunakan serbuk paduan mikro Fe-Cr hasil sintesis dengan metode ultrasonik. Metode ultrasonik dimanfaatkan untuk sintesis paduan mikro Fe-Cr melalui penggunaan gelombang suara ultrasonik. Langkah yang dilakukan adalah memadatkan partikel paduan mikro Fe-Cr dengan kompaksi tanpa lubrikan, hasil kompaksi dimasukan kedalam kapsul kaca kuarsa selanjutnya dilakukan proses variasi sintering 11000C, 12000C dan 13000C pada kondisi suhu maximal ditahan selama 1 jam , lalu didinginkan secara normal dalam tungku. Karakterisasi strukturmikro dilakukan dengan Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Energy Dispersive X-Ray Spectroscopy (SEM-EDS), X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) disertai analisis dengan metode MAUD (Material Analisys Using Diffraction ) dan pengukuran Nilai kekerasan sesungguhnya. Partikel paduan mikro Fe-Cr lebih stabil dan konsisten dalam pembentukan fasa bongkah paduan Fe-Cr melalui variasi sintering. Diperoleh bongkah paduan Fe-Cr homogen tanpa oksida.Kata kunci: Paduan mikro Fe-Cr, Ultrasonik, Kapsul Kuarsa, Sintering AbstractFe-Cr is an alloy that has a high temperature resistance and is potential to be used as an interconnect on Solid Oxide Fuel Cell (SOFC) fuel cells. In this research, Fe-Cr alloys have been synthesized using Super Fe-Cr micro alloy powder with ultrasonic method. The ultrasonic method is utilized for the synthesis of Fe-Cr micro alloys through the use of ultrasonic sound waves. The steps taken were the consolidation of the Fe-Cr micro alloy particles through compaction without lubricant, then in a quartz glass capsule a sintering process variation of 11000C, 12000C and 13000C at maximum temperature conditions retained for 1 hour, then cooled normally in the furnace. Characterization of microstructure was performed by Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Energy Dispersive X-Ray Spectroscopy (SEM-EDS), X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) with analysis by MAUD method (Material Analisys Using Diffraction) and actual density measurement. The Fe-Cr micro alloy particles are more stable and consistent in the formation of the Fe-Cr alloy phase via sintering variations. The oxidation behavior and microstructural evolution of the nanostructure of Fe-Cr-Al oxide dispersion strengthened (ODS) alloys prepared by spark plasma sintering were investigated by high-temperature oxidation experiments in air at 1200 °C for 100 h. The formation of Al2O3 scale was observed by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) with energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) line scans. The oxidation rate of Fe-Cr-Al ODS alloys is lower than that of conventional Fe-Cr-Al alloys, and the oxide layer formed on the Fe-Cr-Al alloy appeared loose and cracked, whereas the oxide layer formed on the Fe-Cr-Al ODS alloys was adherent and flat. This is due to the high density of dispersed nano-oxides hindering the diffusion of Al element and the formation of vacancies caused by them. In addition, the nano-oxides could also adhere to the oxide layer. Besides, the microstructure of the Fe-Cr-Al ODS alloy had excellent stability during high-temperature oxidation.

The corrosion of four Fe-Cr alloys (Cr: 9, 12, 20, and 25%) with different Cr contents were subjected to cyclic oxidation furnace in Ar-10%O2 atmosphere at 950oC for 120 h. The samples after oxidation were investigated by using X-ray diffraction (XRD), optical metallography and SEM/EDS. The results indicated that increasing Cr content reduced the oxidation rate and the scale cracking. Alloys with less Cr content occurred breakaway oxidation due to formation of Fe-rich oxide scale. However, a thin protective chromia scale was observed on alloys with Cr > 20%. The corrosion behaviour on Fe-Cr alloy was then discussed based on experimental observation.

Lotus-type porous Fe-25wt.%Cr and Fe-23wt.%Cr-2wt.%Mo alloys were fabricated by continuous zone melting technique in pressurized hydrogen gas. After applying a high temperature nitriding treatment, the fabricated Lotus-type porous nickel-free stainless steel absorbed larger amount of nitrogen compared with non-porous alloy of the same composition since the surface area exposed to the gas is larger in the porous samples. In the Lotus-type porous Fe-25wt.%Cr and Fe-23wt.%Cr-2wt.%Mo alloys the nitrogen concentration after the nitriding achieved was approximately 1.2 wt.%. Only austenite peaks were detected in the profile of both Fe-Cr-N alloys after the nitriding treatment. Neither CrN nor Cr2N were identified by XRD in any specimen after the nitriding.

Large-dimensional bulk nanocrystalline Fe–Al–Cr alloys with different chromium contents (5, 10, 15 and 20 wt.%) were prepared by self-propagating combustion synthesis. After isothermal treatment at 1000 °C for 16 hours, the microstructure transformation and the deformation behavior of Fe–Al–Cr alloys were studied and discussed. After annealing, the nanocrystalline matrix of the alloys changed slightly, and the average grain size remained as approximately 20 nm. Owing to the changes in the distribution and shape of the second phase, the annealed nanocrystalline Fe–Al–Cr alloys with different chromium contents provided good plasticity and strength. The annealed Fe–Al–Cr alloy with 15 wt.% chromium achieved the best comprehensive mechanical properties.

We obtained that the asymptotic behaviours of minor element X(Mo, Ti) in Fe-Cr-X ternary alloys and Fe-Cr-Mo-Ti quaternary alloys along a trajectory of a peak top of the major element Cr was classified into three groups according to the sign of the second derivative of the chemical free energy with respect to the compositions of Cr and X(Mo, Ti). Theoretical analysis for the symptotic behavior Mo in Fe-Cr-Mo ternary has been formed in order to discuss the simulation results. Effect of the other elements, such as Ti on separation behaviours of Cr in Fe-Cr-Ti ternary alloys were also investigated. A simple theory for describing the effect of subsutitutonal element in Fe-Cr-X ternary alloys on the basis of simulations and theoretical analyses was proposed.

Resumen
The corrosion resistance under mechanical stress can be one of the most concerning types of localized corrosion for the application of stainless steel reinforcements in concrete. This paper will assess the stress corrosion cracking susceptibility, by the slow strain rate test method (SSRT), of three austenitic stainless steel alloys: one conventional Fe-Cr-Ni base alloy and two new composition Fe-Cr-Mn base alloys adequate to the manufacturing of ribbed bars for reinforcing concrete. The SSRT results show that only one of the austenitic Fe-Cr-Mn alloys is susceptible to stress corrosion cracking while the other shows a performance similar to that of the AISI 304 stainless steel alloy.

Resumen
In recent years, metal injection molding (MIM) has been adopted as a process of manufacturing a solenoid valve which is a component of an electronic fuel injector, and PB permalloy component has been commercialized. However, Ni that is an element of PB permalloy is expensive material, and it makes difficult to produce the injector component in low cost. To reduce the production cost, we can use Fe-Cr alloys, although there are few studies on Fe-Cr alloys by MIM process. In this study, Fe-Cr-Si alloy specimens were manufactured by MIM process and the magnetic and mechanical properties were investigated. From these results, we found that high performance Fe-Cr-Si alloy can be obtained by setting Si content to 3% and reducing Cr content.

In the Fe-Co alloy system, the addition of Cr improves the glass-forming ability (GFA) with superior soft magnetic properties such as high saturation magnetization (Ms) and low coercivity (Hc). In addition, Cr is considered to be an important factor for improving the corrosion resistance of Fe-based amorphous alloy. Therefore, in the present study, we investigated the GFA, soft magnetic properties, and corrosion resistance of the as-spun ribbons in [Co0.075Fe0.675B0.2Si0.05]100−xCrx (x = 0–8) alloy system. The ribbons were produced using the melt-spinning technique and were characterized by X-ray diffraction, differential scanning calorimetry, thermomechanical analysis, and vibrating sample magnetometer. The Co-Fe-B-Si-Cr alloys exhibited high thermal stability and a high Ms of 0.93–1.53 T. Corrosion properties were evaluated by cyclic voltammetry. The addition of Cr improved the corrosion resistance of the alloys. The alloys with a higher Cr content exhibited a higher corrosion resistance. The optimum combination with soft magnetic properties and corrosion resistance of Fe-co based amorphous alloys can be utilized for extensive fields of application through a variation of Cr contents.

Five kind of Fe-12.8Cr alloys with different silicon content which were respectively 0%, 0.2%, 0.5%, 0.9% and 1.2% were experimentally made, and the microstructure and damping capacity of the alloys in quenched were studied. Explains the effect of the silicon content on Fe-Cr alloy damping performance, the results shows that the silicon content affects obviously on damping properties of Fe-12.8Cr two element alloy, Fe-12.8Cr two element alloy can be with better damping properties when the silicon content is about 0.6%.The domain area and domain interface mobile ability affect on the damping performance of Fe-Cr two element alloy, which ensure the appropriate grain size to increase the domain area and improve the magnetic domain wall moving ability can improve the damping properties of Fe-Cr based alloy.

Isothermal oxidation was carried out on Fe and Fe-(1.0 and 5.0mass%)Cr alloy at 800°C and 1000°C in dry (PH2O=1x10-4 atm) and wet (PH2O=0.035 atm) air. Fracture behavior of the scale was investigated using acoustic emission (AE) analysis during cooling. The water vapor content of the atmosphere has a major influence on the oxidation of the Fe-Cr alloys, whereas it has virtually no effect on the oxidation of Fe. During cooling, significant AE activity starts at about 450°C on the Fe and Fe-Cr alloys oxidized in wet air. This critical temperature is independent of sample composition, oxidation temperature and scale thickness. In the case of the oxidation of the Fe-Cr alloys in dry air, however, the critical temperature shifts to higher temperatures with increasing scale thickness and Cr content. Fracture behavior of the scale should be related to scale structure caused by sample composition and oxidation condition.

Magnetic Cluster Expansion method is applied to the investigation of magnetic properties of Fe-Cr alloys treated as a function of Cr content, the spatial distribution of Cr atoms, and temperature. Random Fe-Cr alloys and Cr clusters formed in concentrated alloys are analyzed. We find significant differences between the types of magnetic order characterizing those systems, which are reflected in the characteristic variation of the temperature-dependent magnetic specific heat. Simulations show that in random Fe-Cr alloys and in alloys containing Cr clusters, the interplay between antiferromagnetic interactions characterizing Fe-Cr and Cr-Cr atom pairs gives rise to unusual patterns of finite temperature magnetic ordering.

Resumen
Iron-chromium-phosphorus (Fe–Cr–P) alloys were prepared by electrodeposition from an acidic citrate electrolyte using sodium hypophosphite as the source of phosphorus. These alloys form a passive oxide layer when exposed to air and are useful as protective coatings on steel. The current efficiency of the plating process reaches a maximum of 20% at a current density of 100 mA/cm2 where the alloy has 10% Cr and 19% P. X-ray diffraction patterns and TEM analysis show that the alloy is amorphous. TEM results also indicate that small oxide particles (5–20 nm) are dispersed in the amorphous structure. Besides Fe, Cr, and P, the alloys contain a low level of oxygen (4–7%) in the form of mixed iron and chromium oxides, as confirmed by AES analysis. When heated, the amorphous structure transforms into a mixture of Fe3P and Cr3P, along with α–Fe–Cr grains. This phase transformation occurs in the temperature range of 450–460 °C for alloys with 19% P.

Fe3Al intermetallic compounds and several (Fe,Cr)3Al alloys with Cr content from 3 to 25 % have been studied using isothermal mechanical spectroscopy. The Zener relaxation caused by reorientation of pairs of substitute atoms in Fe is observed in all studied alloys and used to evaluate the activation parameters of Al (Cr) atom jumps in Fe. The second internal friction peak at higher temperatures was observed only in Cr containing alloys. Isothermal mechanical spectroscopy (employed frequency from 10-4 to 102 Hz) gives some advantages as compared with ordinary techniques, i.e. study of anelasticity as a function of temperature. It allows to avoid transient effects and to measure materials in a state close to equilibrium. This allows to distinguish clearly between Al atom diffusion in Fe3Al in B2 and D03 states (activation energies for Fe – 26 Al in the B2 range the HB2 ≈ 235 kJ/mol, and in the D03 ordered range the HD03 ≈ 286 kJ/mol). Effect of chromium on the Zener relaxation is analysed.

Resumen
Surface and interface properties of Fe-Cr, Fe-Al, and Fe-Cr-Al are studied using Exact Muffin-Tin Orbitals and Monte Carlo methods and with x-ray photoelectron and Auger electron techniques. Surface composition is investigated as a function of oxidation (heating) time. Hard x ray photoelectron spectroscopy (HAXPES) is used to scan non destructively the compositions below the surface. It is found that Cr boosts the Al segregation to the surface.
