Resumen
Abstract Reproduction is physiologically stressful for many animals. Female birds often lose body mass after their young hatch, which has been commonly attributed either to an energetic deficit incurred while breeding (the energetic stress hypothesis) or to an adaptive reduction in wing-loading to save energy during flight (the wing-loading hypothesis). We tested these two hypotheses for an open-cup nesting passerine, the Black-throated Blue Warbler (Dendroica caerulescens), using a food-supplementation experiment. We found that females provided with extra food lost less body mass between the

Sexually dimorphic response to stress has been observed in assorted natural dioecious plants. Up to now, few studies have focused on the difference of stress responses between artificially bred siblings. To determine the sexual dimorphism between artificially bred sibling poplar trees, we conducted a study comparing the response to water deficit between male and female Populus × euramericana siblings. This pair of hybrids was analyzed in terms of growth, photosynthesis, membrane injury and repair systems, as well as gene regulation patterns. The female and male siblings presented distinct resp

Both sexually selected traits and mate preferences for these traits can be context dependent, yet how variation in preferred traits could select for context dependent preferences has rarely been examined. The signal reliability hypothesis predicts that mate preferences vary across contexts (e.g., environments) in relation to the reliability of the information preferred traits provide in those contexts. Extensive variation in copy number of mc4r B alleles on the Y-chromosome that associates with male size in Xiphophorus multilineatus allowed us to use a split-sibling design to determine if male

ABSTRACT Objective: To compare two distalizing devices supported by palatal miniscrews, the MGBM System (MGBM) and the Distal Screw appliance (DS), in dental Class II patients. Materials and Methods: Pretreatment (T1) and postdistalization (T2) lateral cephalograms of 53 Class II malocclusion subjects were examined. MGBM consisted of 29 patients (16 males, 13 females) with a mean pretreatment age of 12.3 ± 1.5 years; DS consisted of 24 patients (11 males, 13 females) with a mean pretreatment age of 11.3 ± 1.2 years. The mean distalization time was 6 ± 2 months for MGBM and 9 ± 2 months for DS.

This innovative financing method can democratize access to capital, allowing entrepreneurs in developing nations to bypass traditional gatekeepers and connect directly with potential investors or supporters. The appeal of crowdfunding for startup entrepreneurs in developing countries lies in its ability to democratize access to capital, bypassing traditional gatekeepers and connecting directly with potential investors or supporters.

The data was collected from 326 higher education students of four study groups from a state university in Iran. MANOVA analysis was conducted to explore the possible role of the demographic variables in students’ perceived readiness for CSCL. Most of the participants showed

Epimeletic behavior toward dead calves has been frequently reported in cetaceans, mostly with females (presumed mothers) showing supportive behaviors such as carrying, lifting, or sinking, often assisted by “escort” individuals. However, information on acoustic production in such contexts is scarce. This report describes two observations of epimeletic behavior toward dead newborns in bottlenose dolphins and associated acoustic production. Data were collected at the Tiber River estuary (Rome, Mediterranean Sea, Italy) with one hydrophone for passive acoustic monitoring and two digital cameras.

Abstract The Age-Friendly framework is an evidence-based approach to guide health care with older adults that emphasizes 4Ms: “What Matters,” “Medication,” “Mentation,” and “Mobility.” The Self-Management Resource Center’s evidence-based Chronic Disease Self-Management Program (CDSMP) aligns with this framework. Therefore, this study applied the 4Ms to identify needs of participants from CDSMP. Participants (n = 147) were predominantly White (n = 139; 94.6%) females (n = 18; 80.3%) with a mean age of 75.21 (SD = 18.83).
